Smell is the main factor in attracting carp when fishing with boilies. Naturally, there are no universal baits, since each type of fish has its own taste whims: carp prefers boilies with fruity, sweetish odors, crucian carp really likes the aroma of vanilla or garlic, and roach bites well on baits with the aroma of roasted seeds or almonds.

In addition, you need to take into account weather conditions, fishing season, and time of day. In other words, when planning to fish with boilies, you need to select a whole arsenal of baits with different smells, colors and sizes. This article will tell you which boilies are best for carp.

Types of boilies

According to the buoyancy criterion, boilies can be divided into three groups:

  • drowning;
  • floating;
  • with neutral buoyancy.

A type of floating boilies is called pop-up.

At a time when boilies were just gaining popularity, they were attached directly to the hook. However, fishermen soon came up with new, more effective options for attaching baits. First of all, the so-called hair rig, which involves attaching boilies to a fishing line next to the hook.

Hair attachment of the boilie to the hook

Making hair accessories

  1. Take a piece of fishing line (about 30 cm long) and tie a loop at one end.
  2. Use a special needle to pick up the loop you have made and place the boilie on the leash.
  3. After this, a stopper is inserted into the loop to secure the bait.
  4. Next, holding the boilie between your thumb and forefinger, begin winding the line around the shank of the hook.
  5. After making 7-8 turns, you need to pass the end of the fishing line through the eye of the hook.
  6. By tightening the knot, you can attach the leash to the main fishing line.

Boilies belonging to the floating type are not boiled in boiling water, but cooked in the microwave. Because of this, the baits come out lighter, and therefore the degree of their buoyancy increases. However, floating boilies also have the disadvantage of being loose.

Boilies of this type are not subject to heat treatment. Dust boilies for carp are made without the use of eggs (the place of the binding component is taken by syrups, honey, molasses) and are simply dried. After the bait gets into the water, it begins to gradually dissolve, shedding one layer after another. If high-quality attractive components are added to the bait, such boilies will immediately attract the attention of carp swimming nearby.

The size of the hooks may vary, depending on the size of the boilies and the desired catch. When choosing hooks, you need to pay attention to the strength and sharpness of the products.

In most cases, carp are hooked on their own, and therefore the fleshy jaw breaks through not after a strong hook, but under the weight of the fish itself. That is why the hook must be very sharp and reliable.

The best option is forged hooks with a short shank. Ideally, the distance from the shank of the hook to its sting should be approximately 1/3 or 1/2 the size of the boilie.

The sizes of the baits themselves can also be quite different, 5-30 mm. Small boilies are used more often for hunting carp that are too cautious or not very active. Large baits are good because their use eliminates the unnecessary bite of small fish. In addition, you can always make a smaller bait from a large boilie by simply cutting the bait in half.

It is still not known for sure whether the color of the boilie really matters. Be that as it may, for bottom fishing in reservoirs with a clean bottom, it is recommended to use light-colored baits.

In the middle layers of water they fish with red, orange, yellowish boilies, which, according to legend, can attract the attention of carp not only with their smell, but also with their appearance.

For bait, boilies similar to those used directly as bait are used, that is, the colors, sizes and, above all, smells of the baits must be the same.

The bait, called “boilies,” came to our fishermen in the 80s from Europe. There, fishermen began to make a mixture of soy and corn flour, eggs and semolina. By rolling quite large balls out of it and boiling them, fishermen received excellent bait for large fish. Small fish simply had no chance of swallowing such a ball.

Boilies are bait made from protein balls. But the shape is not a significant factor in fishing; it can be pyramids, cones or capsules. It is important that this is bait for large fish: carp, carp, etc.

But the size of the boilies matters:

  • Carp, bream and tench are caught using small protein rounds (diameter 5-10 mm);
  • with balls with a diameter of 12 to 20 mm they go for Amur carp and carp;
  • bait with a diameter of 30 mm or more is needed for fishing for large specimens.

Operating principles of boilies

Unlike float fishing, the bait is not located on the hook itself, but behind it. It is attached to it with a hair and does not arouse suspicion in the fish, but makes it impossible for the prey to completely swallow the bait. The hook catches on the lip and a notch occurs. And then it’s a matter of luck and professionalism of the fisherman.

How to catch more fish?

I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. But it was and remains the most effective.

It attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates their appetite. Suitable for both summer and winter fishing.

Now about the hair equipment itself. Its components:

  • self-lead;
  • hook;
  • boyle.

When fishing with hair rigs, self-cutting rigs are usually used. The hook with the boilie is rigidly connected to the sinker. Having found the bait, the prey grabs it along with the hook, but the massive sinker leaves no other options except to hook itself. Since the point of the hook is open, and the line is tense due to the weight of the sinker, the carp is not often able to spit out the hook.

Features of the manufacture and use of boilies

There is a popular myth among fishermen that boilies last a long time. But can food that includes, for example, eggs or flour be stored for a long time? The answer is negative.

This means that the boilie contains so many preservatives that it will impress not only us, but also the carp, or carp, and all those who stand in line for the boilie. You can try making a boilie yourself; clean, homemade goodies will please the fish much more.

To prepare 1 kg of mixture you need to take:

  • corn and soy flour, 400 and 200 grams, respectively;
  • 150 grams of semolina;
  • 50 grams of roasted sunflower seeds;
  • 50 grams of roasted hemp seeds;
  • 100 grams of milk protein;
  • as a preservative – 50 grams of salt;
  • 15 ml betaine (buy it at a pharmacy or fishing store);
  • 8 pcs. eggs;
  • food coloring.

This is not the only recipe for making boilies. You can find many of them on the Internet. Choose the one that suits you.

Algorithm for preparing boilies:

  1. Break the eggs and crack until a homogeneous mixture is formed.
  2. Add flavorings, betaine, food coloring.
  3. Slowly add thickeners (cereals, flour), stirring the mixture constantly.
  4. Roll out the dough into balls of the required diameter.
  5. Boil the required number of balls for 2 minutes in a colander placed in boiling water. Don't overcook it!
  6. Store the remaining balls in the freezer of the refrigerator.

In stores you can buy boilies of various flavors and colors. But most often, fishermen make boilies at home on their own. Some of them are designed to attract large fish, and some are used as bait.

Bait boilies are:

  • floating;
  • drowning.

Belonging to a specific species depends on the manufacturing method and composition of the boilie. Sinking balls are obtained if, after rolling, they are boiled or frozen.

You can perform both procedures together sequentially. It will be hard and will be able to lie on the bottom for quite a long time, waiting for large fish.

Floating boilies are steamed in the microwave, so they are light, fluffy and buoyant. But such a boilie does not hold its shape for long, disintegrating in water.

Flavors for boilies at home:

  1. Sunflower seeds. They must be fried. Before adding them to the boilie bait, they are ground. The seeds can be replaced with oil cake or unrefined sunflower oil.
  2. Peanut. It also requires frying and grinding first.
  3. Coconut flakes, toasted sesame.
  4. Garlic. A clove of garlic is finely chopped or crushed and added to the boilie mixture.
  5. Dill or black currant leaves, mint, lemongrass. Finely chop and add to the mixture.
  6. Seasonings. You can use any seasonings that you can buy in the store: coriander, basil, ginger, cumin, cinnamon.
  7. Cocoa and coffee.
  8. Deeps. For 1 kg of dry boilie mixture, add 5–7 ml of dip.

How to fish with mini boilies?

This is the case when the rule “small boilies - a small fish, large boilies - a large fish” does not work.

Mini boilies are balls measuring 5–12 mm in diameter. They work like grain bait. But there are a lot of grains in the feeding area, and, of course, there are fewer boilies. Carps are in a hurry to catch bright balls, and in their haste they forget about caution. Some of the balls turn out to be bait with a hook.

With this bait you can catch quite large fish.

When choosing between ready-made mini boilies and homemade ones, give preference to ready-made ones, for example, from Top Secret or Pelzer Baits.

When fishing with mini boilies on small balls, you also need small hooks. You can use No. 8 or 10. It is better to attach a boilie with neutral buoyancy to the hair rig (consists of two boilies: sinking and floating). For bait, the balls are served with a “rocket” if the feeding area is far away or with a bait spoon if it is close.

How to catch carp with boilies? All about equipment

Hook. You should definitely pay attention to ensure that it is always sharp and catches the prey well.

When using a hair rig, the hook must correspond to:

  • nozzle size;
  • the size of the expected production.

Hooks with an open tip (the tip of the hook is parallel to the fore-end) should be used in fishing areas with a clean, unscrambled bottom. If we are fishing on a reservoir with flooded trees and branches, it is recommended to use a hook with a sting curved towards the fore-end. This will help avoid snags.

In opaque water, bright pink, white or yellow balls will be more visible. On light sand, dark balls are more noticeable.

You can use sinking or floating ones, or you can use a so-called neutrally buoyant boilie, consisting of a sinking and floating boilie.

Depending on the type of boilie, you need to select a hook.

If the boilie is floating, then we take a special hook, the sting of which is located from the fore-end at a slightly greater distance than in a regular hook, and the fore-end itself is small. Bottom-feeding fish take the bait above the bottom and may miss, but a wider hook will help to catch the carp by the lip.

For boilies with neutral buoyancy, hooks with a closed tip are usually chosen.

Carp like boilies containing protein and protein, flavorings and activators.

The best bait balls and bait balls for carp and carp are offered by the following manufacturing companies: Prologic; Mainline; Tandem Baits; Nutrabaits.

How to catch carp with boilies?

Catching carp with boilies is possible throughout the summer and autumn until the onset of deep cold weather. Then the fish goes to deeper places or hides in snag waters.

They use boilies with a diameter of more than 20 mm, so that small fish are discouraged from feasting on the bait.

Fishing with boilies for carp differs from fishing for other fish only in slightly different equipment. Usually the sinker is tightly attached to the equipment. Grabbing the bait with the boilie and dragging it to the side, the carp hooks itself. The weight of the sinker is selected depending on the strength of the current and fishing conditions.

How to catch bream with boilies?

Bream is a very careful fish. You can't catch him without bait. It is undesirable to use porridge; you need to lure it, not feed it. And for bait, it will be effective to use flavors with the smells of spices, cocoa, strawberries, etc. Bait balls are thrown upstream. Using feeders will be more effective.

The bait boilies themselves need to be small – 12-16 mm. The rig for bream differs little from the rig for carp. Only the hook should be smaller. Sometimes the feeder is used as a load, but this is not always convenient.

How to catch grass carp with boilies?

Grass carp is one of the largest representatives of aquatic fauna. Cunning and careful. In addition, he is a big gourmet. It's not easy to catch him. It doesn’t come across boilies often either. But you can try.

Use this recipe for making boilies at home:

  • Soy and corn flour – 20% each;
  • Semolina – 40%;
  • Powdered milk – 15%;
  • Powdered sugar – 5%;
  • Binding base: for 1 kg of dry mixture – 10 eggs, 3 tbsp. l. sunflower oil.
  • Add flavoring and coloring. The mixture is ready.

Roll the resulting dough into balls with a diameter of 3 cm, cook for 2-3 minutes and dry.

The most effective way to catch carp is to use a floating boilie. When preparing the tackle, pay attention to the need to attach an additional leash 5-6 centimeters long to the fishing line, not far from the hook. The boilie and a heavy pellet will be attached to this leash to keep the boilie floating.

I repeat that catching grass carp with a boilie is a great success, he is very careful. But the more difficult the problem, the more pleasant it is to find its solution.

Beginning fishermen, when going fishing, are ready to catch any fish, as long as there is a bite. But an experienced fisherman already has his own preferences, knowledge of the habits of certain types of fish and methods of catching them. Knowing the peculiarities of fishing with boilies, you can choose the type of future prey and its “caliber” yourself.

Happy fishing.

How long has it been since you had a really BIG CATCH?

When was the last time you caught dozens of HUGE pike/carp/bream?

We always want to get results from fishing - to catch not three perch, but ten kilogram pikes - what a catch! Each of us dreams of this, but not everyone can do it.

A good catch can be achieved (and we know this) thanks to good bait.

It can be prepared at home or bought in fishing stores. But stores are expensive, and to prepare bait at home, you need to spend a lot of time, and, to tell the truth, homemade bait does not always work well.

You know that disappointment when you buy bait or prepare it at home and only catch three or four bass?

So maybe it’s time to use a truly working product, the effectiveness of which has been proven both scientifically and in practice on the rivers and ponds of Russia?

It gives the same result that we cannot achieve on our own, especially since it is cheap, which distinguishes it from other means and there is no need to spend time on production - you order it, it’s delivered and you’re good to go!

Of course, it is better to try once than to hear a thousand times. Moreover, now is the season! This is a great bonus when ordering!

Find out more about the bait!

Carp is a cautious, unpredictable, cunning fish, known for its incredible zeal for life. Therefore, hunting for it is perceived by many fishermen as a challenge and an adventure.

Catching carp is a real art, but it is quite possible for anyone to master it. One of the best ways to catch these fish is to use boilies as bait.

What are boilies

Boilies are a fishing attachment, most often round or cylindrical in shape. They can be sinking or floating, and also consist of a variety of components. Most often, fishermen prefer to make boilies from dough. The dimensions of this bait are quite impressive - 8-24 mm in diameter, and the so-called instant boilies can reach three centimeters. That is why this attachment is used only for catching carp species of fish.

This type of bait can be divided into two types depending on size:

Small boilies

Diameter of this type of nozzle does not exceed 1.5 cm.

Advantages

  • The main advantage of small boilies is that such a cautious fish as carp will first try a small bait, and may ignore the alluring huge colorful boilies - why risk it?
  • It is much easier to throw a small ball over a considerable distance than its larger counterpart.
  • And also, importantly, in small boilies ingredients stay fresh much longer due to more uniform heating/cooling of the ball.
  • It is much easier to catch carp with a small boilie. With initially the same weight, small balls of bait will be eaten by carp much longer due to quantity, and the fish will spend many times more energy, which will increase its appetite.

Flaws

Caught with small bait small fish. Imagine how disappointed someone who dreamed of catching a huge trophy carp will be, but only saw bream and miniature crucian carp. When making boilies yourself, you can spend a lot of effort and nerves, because large elements of the ingredients complicate the formation of balls.

Large boilies

Nozzle diameter more than 1.5 cm.

Advantages

If you are an avid trophy fish hunter, then this is what you need. A large bait will not be instantly attacked by a horde of small fish - it will patiently wait for the desired one. big catch. If the number of white fish in the fishing area is too large, large boilies become the only bait option. Moreover, making them is as easy as shelling pears.

Flaws

And again about the disadvantages. Inactive fish do not notice such a large bait. The carp quickly swallows the boilie without making any effort, and its appetite becomes less and less. Heat treatment proceeds unevenly, the ingredients lose their properties. On balls a dense crust forms, which prevents the spread of attractants.

However, the mentioned pros and cons are rather conditional, since each case is individual. Decide on your priorities: who do you want to catch - a kilogram roach or a trophy carp? And then make a choice.

There is also classification of boilies by smell:

  • with a fishy scent(made from fishmeal);
  • with a fruity smell(ingredient – cereal, semolina or corn);
  • other aromas, for example, spices, etc.

You can make boilies yourself, but if you wish, they can be easily found in specialized stores. In what cases should you give preference to purchased attachments? In case you are not aware, what do carp bite on? in this area. Then it’s better not to waste money on purchasing boilies of different colors, with different smells, as well as dips for them - just to be sure! And, of course, if you don’t want to waste your time preparing boilies for carp, then it’s better not to force yourself, but to buy everything you need. In any case, if you buy boilies, you can’t go wrong – purchased baits show very good results.

But there is one minus here. When you prepare boilie yourself, you know exactly what it contains, and you can choose the ideal recipe, which cannot be done with store-bought ones.

What kind of boilies should you buy, how not to make a mistake with the company?

The company's boilies are a recognized leader Richworth, which uses the best and highest quality ingredients in their production. You can choose the desired size, color and taste of bait. Carp mostly bite on boilies with the aroma of honey and tutti-frutti.

Among the companies that are most popular among fishermen, and, therefore, producing the most effective baits, we can highlight Tandem Baits, Mainline, Nutrabaits, Prologic.

Do-it-yourself boilies for carp

So, how to make boilies at home? The work ahead can be divided into several stages.

  • Prepare and roll out the dough.
  • We mold small pieces and give them a spherical shape.
  • We send the finished balls to the refrigerator, microwave or straight into boiling water for cooking - whichever you prefer.

Cooking is the most popular final treatment of boilies.

Equipment for catching carp with boilies

Disputes often arise regarding equipment for carp fishing, but let everyone remain with their own opinion, because be that as it may, you should start with hair snap. We haven't come up with a simpler or better solution yet.

And now a small master class on making such equipment.

What we can't do without:

And now the stage knitting hair snap.

  • A loop is made at the end of a piece of material (20 cm is enough), then you need to tie a straight knot with 3 turns, after which the excess can be cut off.
  • Now we need a piece of silicone tube - we put it on the driving material using the pulling method.
  • The other end of the leash is threaded towards the sting into the ring of the hook.
  • 6 turns are made around the fore-end of the driving material, the free end is pulled through the ring towards the sting.
  • The hook material is used to glue the knot around the shank of the hook, after which you need to wait for the glue to dry.
  • 5 minutes – and the best equipment for carp fishing is ready!

Selection of gear for catching carp with boilies

There are many options on how best to catch carp. Perhaps one of the following will suit you.

Fishing with a float rod

  • The length of the rod is 5 meters.
  • Test – 10-30 gr.
  • Reel with spool from 2500.
  • The length of the fishing line is 100 meters.
  • Line diameter – 0.25 mm.
  • Leash - monofilament 0.2 mm, length 1-1.5 m.
  • Floats with a carrying capacity of 2-8 g. You can put it on any fishing line.
  • Sliding installation is preferred.
  • The hook is selected in accordance with the chosen bait, most often it is numbers 10, 8 and 6.

Read about all the intricacies of carp fishing with a float rod in our magazine.

Feeder

There are boilies floating, drowning And "medium buoyancy". Carp usually feed from the bottom, so a floating boilie as a bait is used only in exceptional cases. For example, when fish stay close to the surface, this happens more often in the heat, when there is not enough oxygen at the bottom. But it is also worth considering that small fish are often caught on a floating bait. The fact is that the unusual location of the bait is perceived by larger individuals as strange, and they prefer not to take risks and swim away to hell.

Boyles "medium buoyancy", do not float up, but do not submerge completely in the water, do not get stuck in silt, which makes them welcome guests when fishing. Those wishing to make such a nozzle need to accurately determine the ratio of the hook and the nozzle. The best way to do this is through experimentation. Recommendation: the nozzle should be light. You can use cork chips to get the desired result. And then the most difficult part: balancing the boilie with a hook. After you have previously chosen the correct ratio, perform a simple check: throw the boilie into a container of water, and if it does not immediately sink to the bottom like a stone, but sinks slowly, then everything was done correctly.

Below you can watch an interesting video - underwater filming of carp fishing with sinking boilies. In it you will see how the carp reacts and bites the bait.

Lure color does not play a big role, usually the choice falls on yellow, red or purple shades. Here you need to take into account various factors, for example, if the water in which the carp lives is dirty, then the white boilie will stand out the most. It should be remembered that the main task is to attract our cautious and cunning swimmer with aromatic and tasty bait, as well as to weaken his vigilance.

Don’t forget also about, which will make boilies even more attractive to fish.

What secrets of catching carp with boilies do you know? Or maybe you think that catching carp is not a tricky business, and there is no need to invent anything? If there is something in the article that you do not agree with, feel free to write in the comments, your experience may help other fishermen!

Catching carp is considered a very interesting and exciting activity, which for some people surpasses in interest even fishing for a predator. There are a lot of features in carp fishing. The main differences lie in the gear and bait used.

Professionals distinguish two main methods of carp fishing:

  • fishing for carp with boilies;
  • fishing using feeder rigs.

Equipment

Most often, carp are caught using a hair rig. Such equipment is very easy to make and fishermen have not yet been able to come up with a more effective installation, so the advantages are obvious.

To make gear for carp fishing using boilies, you will need to stock up on some materials:

  • driving material;
  • carp hook;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • silicone tube;

Installing the equipment is quite simple, you just need to follow a certain sequence of actions and have at least a small understanding of how to tie basic fishing knots:

  1. First you need to make a loop on the leash and tie it with a triple knot.
  2. Then you need to thread a piece of silicone tube onto the leash.
  3. Now you need to thread the second end of the leash into the eye of the hook.
  4. Then you need to make 6-8 turns around the forend.
  5. In the direction of the sting, through the ring of the hook, you need to pull the second end of the leash.
  6. Now you should glue the leash to the shank of the hook.
  7. The tackle can be used immediately after the glue has dried.

Catching carp with boilies is a very interesting, but at the same time difficult activity. Boilies are very fragile, so simply putting them on a hook will not work - they will crumble. If they don’t fly apart immediately, then they will definitely fly apart during casting.

In this case, you can prevent damage to the bait using hair equipment. The peculiarity of this installation is that the tip of the hook remains constantly open, and the bait is fixed on a thin hair of the leader material.

The boilie must be prepared in advance for attachment - make a small hole there using a drill or awl. Then you need to thread the loop from the leash into the hole. After threading the loop, you need to secure it with a silicone stopper.

It is important to pay attention to the fact that the bait is located directly behind the hook.

The main thing is that the fish does not feel the hook when it bites. As a result, the carp should swallow the hook along with the bait. The fisherman can only hook the fish and take the catch ashore.

Choosing bait is a very important task that not all novice fishermen can handle. The main problem is choosing between store-bought baits and homemade boilies. It is possible to resolve the dispute, but you need to have some knowledge about the features of both types of baits.

Basic benefits of store-bought boilies are as follows:

  • It is possible to purchase several different baits of different shapes, sizes and colors, and also check which scent suits best. This will be an indispensable advantage for fishing in an unfamiliar body of water.
  • If the fisherman has too little time left before leaving for the reservoir and there is simply no time to start preparing boilies. Of course, if you are in a hurry to go fishing, then buying bait in the store will be much easier and faster.

But homemade boilies also have advantages:

  • If a fisherman constantly fishes in one place, then he knows almost everything about the taste preferences of local fish. Homemade boilies make it possible to combine a variety of ingredients that will appeal to local fish.
  • If an angler manages to catch fish with homemade bait, then it will be very easy for him to make the same one with an identical smell, size and shape.

As you can see, all types of nozzles have advantages, but they will be noticeable only in one case or another. When choosing between homemade and purchased boilies, everything also depends on the fishing conditions, as is the case with other baits.

In the production of boilies, special technologies and various components are used. Most often, the composition of such baits includes protein, flavors, and proteins. The following companies are considered the most famous boilie manufacturers:

  • Tandem Baits;
  • Mainline;
  • Richworth;
  • Prologic;

These bait manufacturers are quite famous among carp fishermen using boilies. They produce high quality and effective baits. Almost all experienced fishermen prefer to use bait from these manufacturers.

In the fishing community, catching carp with boilies is considered the most effective method for catching a trophy specimen. Small fish will not bite these baits, as their large size will discourage unwanted catch. Lures are easy to use and very effective.

The most popular among fishermen are sinking boilies. They are very easy to make at home, you just need to know the recipe and have some manufacturing knowledge. To prepare you will need the following: ingredients:

  • 1 part corn grits;
  • 1 part milk powder;
  • 1 part soybean cereal;
  • 2 parts semolina;
  • 0.5 parts ground sunflower seeds;
  • a dozen chicken eggs;
  • unrefined sunflower oil (2 tablespoons).

Manufacturing Such baits are quite simple. You just need to follow a clear sequence and recommendations:

  1. All dry ingredients must first be ground using a blender or coffee grinder.
  2. Liquid ingredients must be mixed in a large bowl.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to liquid ingredients and knead the dough.
  4. Place the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  5. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it into sausages.
  6. Cut the sausages into even pieces, then roll them into balls of the desired diameter.
  7. Dip the balls into boiling water for 2 minutes.
  8. Let the boilies cool.
  9. Dip baits in yellow or red dye.

Sometimes carp fishing with boilies occurs in conditions where some difficulties may arise with sinking baits. Then baits with positive buoyancy come to the aid of the fisherman, for the manufacture of which you will need the following Ingredients:

  • 4 parts corn flour;
  • 2 parts soy flour;
  • 1 part semolina;
  • 0.5 parts hemp seeds;
  • 1 part milk protein;
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar;
  • 15 milligrams of betaine;
  • 7 chicken eggs;
  • purple food coloring;
  • 0.5 parts salt.

This bait is made in exactly the same way as the previous one. The only difference is in the cooking process. Floating boilies do not cook in boiling water. They must be kept over a steam bath for 3 minutes.

Dusting boilies have gained a very good reputation among amateurs and professionals of carp fishing. To prepare this bait you will need the following: components:

  • flavorings (it’s best to use crab flavor);
  • 3 parts corn flour;
  • 2 parts soy flour;
  • 0.5 liters of water;
  • 1 part milk powder;
  • 10 milliliters of sugar;
  • 10 milliliters of fish oil;
  • 10 milliliters of betaine;
  • pink food coloring.

The manufacturing process exactly repeats the previous two types of baits, only the boilies are gathering dust no heat treatment required. Just lay them out on paper or a board and let the baits dry thoroughly. It is better to store such baits in the refrigerator.

There is an opinion among fishermen that carp are very attracted to various smells, and this opinion is completely justified and true. To increase the effectiveness of baits, you can add the following components:

  • roasted and crushed sunflower seeds;
  • crushed and roasted peanuts;
  • sesame seeds;
  • garlic juice;
  • cocoa;
  • ground coffee;
  • ground cinnamon;
  • various dips;
  • a little cumin;
  • vanilla sugar;
  • crab and meat flavorings.

But in addition to the aroma, you need to pay special attention to the appearance of the bait; it should be bright. An attractive appearance can be achieved by using a variety of food colorings. Bright colors of baits always attract carp.

Selection of gear

There are many ways to catch carp using boilies. Fishermen have adapted to catching this fish in different ways, which do not differ in effectiveness, but some of them are more convenient. Most likely the following gear will suit you.

Fishing with a float rod

In order for carp fishing with boilies using a float rod to be successful, you will need to acquire the following gear:

  • A telescopic rod about 5 meters long.
  • The rod test should be between 10 and 30 grams.
  • Reel size 2500 according to Shimano classification.
  • 100 meters of high-quality fishing line with a diameter of 0.25 millimeters.
  • To make a leash you will need 1 meter of fishing line with a diameter of 0.2 millimeters.
  • Float (load capacity is selected depending on fishing conditions).
  • It is best to equip the tackle with a sliding float.
  • The hook size is selected depending on the diameter of the boilie.

Feeder

Feeder gear is considered the most effective for fishing for carp and other fish. The fishing rod must be plug-in and have a very sensitive tip to detect bites.

  • The rod should be about 4 meters long and with about 100 grams of dough.
  • The weight of the feeder is selected in accordance with the depth at the fishing site and casting distance.
  • The reel must be equipped with a baitrunner.
  • The diameter of the main line is from 0.25 to 0.35 millimeters.
  • The leash should be about 0.5 meters long.

Boilies have been gaining popularity lately. They are widely used by fishermen around the world to catch different types of fish. Boilies are sold in specialized stores or made independently.

What is a boilie and its types

The concept of “boilie” came to us from the 1980s; this term refers to a special type of bait that has the shape of a ball or cylinder.

Boilies are often used to catch trophy carp with minimal chance of small fish biting. The large shape of the bait does not allow small fish to suck in the bait and in most cases they simply swim past. They mostly make boilies on their own in order to add various flavors and change the composition of the bait. Also, the price and quantity of ready-made boilies in the store will cost a tidy sum.

Types of boilies

To size:

  • Small boilies. The diameter of which is no more than 2 cm. Sometimes fishing with them is very effective, since the fish are initially always cautious and wary of large boilies, so they first try small baits. This size is suitable for catching crucian carp, roach and small carp.
  • Big boilies. The diameter of which is more than 2 cm. They are used for catching large trophies: carp, carp and crucian carp. Small fish will not actively gather around this bait and will give the opportunity for large fish to swim up and be able to swallow the bait.
  • Sinking boilies are boiled balls that are left for several days to form a crust. Often used for complementary feeding.
  • Floating boilies - prepared in the microwave. After this, they will become light, which is why they do not sink in water. Suitable for hot weather, when fish swim to the upper layers to search for oxygen and nutrients. The only drawback is that they quickly dissolve in water.
  • Boilies with neutral buoyancy are a modification of a regular boilie. It is used for silted reservoirs so as not to get stuck in it or, on the contrary, not to float up. To make it, you need to put a foam ball on the hook or put on an additional sinker to drop it closer to the bottom.
  • Dusting boilies are both homemade and purchased baits that dissolve in water within 2 hours, shedding layers, thereby luring fish.

What kind of fish can you catch?

Boilies are perfect for other types:

  • Carp, carp;
  • Crucian carp, bream;
  • Roach, silver carp;
  • White amur;
  • And other large species.

Choosing the right boilies

First of all, the choice of boilies depends on the type of fish to be fished for, for example:

  • . It is recommended to use boilies with a diameter of 10-20 mm. Small fish are often cut off due to the large size of the bait. The colors of boilies for carp (carp) are: yellow, red, white. You should add a little different flavorings: strawberry, honey, corn, seeds and cinnamon.
  • Crucian carp. Few fishermen use boilies to catch this fish. But crucian carp like boilies if they are chosen correctly. To catch crucian carp, you should select a diameter from 5 to 10 mm. You should also “highlight” the boilie so that the crucian carp can see it on the muddy bottom; for this you should choose the right colors: yellow, red and orange. As a flavoring you should add: garlic, strawberries and dill.

Secondly, it’s the season. At different times of the year, fish preferences for bait often change, so the fisherman needs to know their preferences in advance.

  • Spring. After waking up, the fish begins to eat up before spawning, so you should take advantage of this and give it nutritious boilies made from protein components: crab meat, fish meal and more.
  • Summer. As soon as a period of high temperature occurs, you should switch to vegetable baits and add fruit flavors to them: banana, pineapple, strawberry and cherry. Having smelled the sweet aroma in the summer, the fish will definitely take advantage of it.
  • Autumn. The fish begins to stock up on food before wintering, so it prefers protein components. The banana flavor also worked well.
  • Winter. You should be careful when choosing boilies and their flavors, since getting sleepy fish to bite is not an easy task. The bait should be quickly absorbed and smell good, for this you should add the taste of kiwi.

Use of attractants

Attractants and dips increase fishing success if the size and color of the bait are chosen correctly. It is recommended to make several types of boilies so that there is variability in the choice if the chosen bait does not bite. Because the theory that sweet aromas work in hot weather, and animal or natural ones in cold weather does not work in all cases.

  • Berry flavors (cherry, strawberry and raspberry);
  • Fishmeal;
  • All-season aromas (anise, honey, dill and vanilla).

Selection of gear for fishing with boilies

To fish with boilies, you should not only understand how to choose the right bait or flavoring for it, but also choose the right gear.

Rod. For fishing with boilies, a feeder or carp rod is mainly used. It all depends on the weight of the intended feeder; on average, it is recommended to take a test of 50-100 grams.

Coil. The usual inertialess one is used. You can also install a match reel, which will reduce the resistance of the fish when playing.

Fishing line. For fishing, a braided fishing line with a thickness of 0.3-0.4 mm is used. It is not recommended to use a stronger fishing line due to the windage, and a weak one may burst when casting.

Leash. They should be used with monofilament fishing line, which reduces the likelihood of getting tangled when casting long distances.

Choosing the right leash:

  • The diameter of the leash should be from 0.1 to 0.18 mm;
  • Tensile strength is about 10 kg;
  • Length from 15 cm.

Hook. When fishing with boilies, you should select hooks wisely. They should be less noticeable - No5-7. The tip of the hook should be slightly bent inward to allow the fish to try the bait without getting hooked on the tip.

Cooking boilies

Boilies of your own production are profitable, since you can make a large amount of bait from cheap ingredients; if there is a surplus, you can make groundbait.

Cooking steps

Regardless of the components used to prepare boilies, the process will be similar:

  • Initially, mix all dry ingredients into a homogeneous mass.
  • After this, mix eggs, dyes, and flavoring in another container.
  • Then put everything into one container and mix.
  • Knead the dough. It should be viscous; to achieve this, adjust the amount of liquid.
  • Make several cylindrical “sausages”. Selecting their diameter to match the size of the future boilie. Next, cut them into cubes and make spherical lumps.
  • After all the balls are rolled, they are boiled or placed in the microwave.

Recipes

There are many recipes for making boilies, but there are only 3 that are most effective for their season:

Spring:

  • 25% fish, 25% corn and 25% wheat flour.
  • 25% bird food.
  • 10 pieces. chicken eggs and 25 ml of fish oil per 1 kg of dough.

Summer:

  • 30% wheat and 10% rice flour.
  • 10% bird food.
  • 20% soluble fish protein.
  • 10% each of bran and casein.
  • 5% each of salt and sprouted wheat.

Autumn:

  • 20% fish and 5% semolina and corn flour.
  • 30% crushed.
  • 10% each of ground sunflower seeds and salt.
  • 20% sugar.
  • 10 pieces. chicken eggs per 1 kg of dough.

How to prepare floating and sinking boilies?

Floating:

Floating balls are not boiled, but dried in the microwave. It is necessary to ensure that the crust is slightly baked and not burnt. To do this, it should be every 20-30 s. check them. After the crust has formed, you should put the boilies in a container with water and when lowering it to the bottom, it should gradually rise to the surface.

Making sinking boilies:

They must be boiled in water for 1-3 minutes, stirring constantly. The more boilies are cooked, the harder they will be.

How to attach boilies

Properly attaching boilies is essential knowledge for successful fishing. Previously, fishermen simply put it on a hook like regular bait. But at this time, several methods of correct installation are available. The most common is hair rigging. When using such equipment, the boilie is not attached to the hook, but to the fishing line, which is located nearby. This method allows the fish to taste the bait and then swallow it along with the hook.

The most effective types:

  • Knotless installation. To do this, use a leash on which the boilie is attached; it is attached in close proximity to the hook. This option is suitable for beginners.
  • Rigid equipment. It is used mainly on braided fishing lines, where a loop is tied directly on the hook, onto which the boilie is attached. This equipment reduces the risk of fish getting lost, since the fish sucks in the boilie immediately with the hook.

Features of catching carp fish with boilies

Fishing with boilies is effective all year round. But for successful fishing you should be guided by all factors:

  • The right bait, which will attract more to the boilie, and not to the mixture itself.
  • A good rod and tackle, as well as correct hair installation.
  • Using various flavors that will increase the likelihood of a bite.
  • Correctly selected boilie size. Since it is not effective to catch small fish with a large boilie, because of this, they simply will not be able to swallow it and will simply leave.
  • The season also affects the size of the boilie. During frosts, it is better to use small boilies, it is at this time that they are more effective on large fish, and in the summer it is better to use large baits.

Also, you should know that the bright color of the boilie is not always effective. Sometimes bottom fish are frightened by bright bait that lies on the bottom and prefer the color of the boilie close to the bottom. But as practice shows, bright color often arouses interest in fish. So, when fishing, it is recommended to take several colors of boilie to check the interest of the fish in this body of water.

It is worth knowing that the fish is not against any experiments; one day it can take any bait, but the next it will not take it at all. Having mastered all the aspects of preparing bait at home, you can adapt to any fishing conditions. Therefore, every angler can start using catchable boilies without significant costs and special efforts.
