Sightseeing and ancient monuments in Crimean cities are best done in winter, when there are few holidaymakers and there is an opportunity to walk around the city without fuss, see it as it really is, and become imbued with its history. That is why we arrived in Feodosia, which is rich in historical sights, in early January. The day turned out to be cloudy, but not cold. It was pleasant to walk through winter Feodosia. Here are a few facts that we managed to learn about this city in one day.

1. The bus ride from Simferopol to Feodosia takes a little more than 2 hours. We drove non-stop through Belogorsk and Stary Krym.

2. Bus station located in the northern part of the city, near Aivazovskaya railway station. Even in winter everything works at the bus station. You can buy a map with a guide, exchange currency, eat in a cafe and visit the toilet.

3. Near the bus station there is St. Catherine's. This is one of the city's attractions. It was founded in April 1892, on the birthday of Empress Catherine II. The church was built in the architectural traditions of the 17th century. After reconstruction today, premises for a Sunday school, a teaching room, a library and a hotel were added to the church. Among the recently erected buildings is a new temple with a full immersion baptismal sanctuary.

4. To get to the center, you need to take bus No. 2. There is a conductor on the bus, so you can immediately take a seat - he will come to you for money. The journey will take about 20 minutes. It is best to get off on Galereinaya Street.

5. The Russian flag is being developed in Feodosia.

6. located on Galereina Street and is not open on Mondays, so we were unable to get into it.

7. Gallery street becomes pedestrian closer to the embankment. It leads to the railway crossing and embankment. The large corner building at the end of the street on the left is the famous art gallery of I.K. Aivazovsky.

8. Today there are 417 works by the great master. This is a real pearl of Feodosia and the entire Crimea. The exhibition is divided into several halls and several buildings. The contemplation of the paintings is breathtaking. The realism and almost photographic accuracy of the depiction of seascapes is amazing. And huge pictures of sea storms seem to immerse the viewer in the epicenter of events and force them to empathize with the characters. For art lovers, not visiting a gallery means missing out on a lot.

9. Runs along the embankment Aivazovsky Avenue. There are many souvenir shops and entertainment venues here.
It ends at the station square, where the monument is erected V.I.Lenin. It looks very much like this is the main square of Feodosia, because the New Year tree was installed here.

10. Further along the embankment, there is Gorky Street. If you walk along it, you can see another landmark of the city, repeatedly depicted in Aivazovsky’s paintings - Tower of St. Constantine. It was built in the 14th century.
It closed the outer belt of defensive structures, covering the city from the land side. Until the end of the 19th century, the sea approached the tower. And now there is a road.

11. Moving straight, you can see Feodosia sea trade port. And turning right behind the tower, we’ll go out to the next one - Aivazovsky fountain. A small building built in oriental style was given to the residents of Feodosia in the fall of 1887 as a gift from Aivazovsky. Seeing how acutely the developing city experienced a shortage of water, the artist allocated funds for the construction of a cast-iron water pipeline 25 kilometers long from the Subashsky spring on his estate. In pre-revolutionary times, the fountain had a silver mug with the inscription “For the health of I.K. Aivazovsky and his family."

12. Next to the fountain there is a cozy square with an arch and a statue. The inscription on the arch says that it was built in gratitude to Aivazovsky.

13.Gorky Street is named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky, who in 1891 worked on the construction of the Feodosia port. This is stated on the memorial plaque on the house at number 24.

15. At the end of the alley is. Next to it there are several benches where you can rest and have a snack without attracting too much attention.

.

16. Moving further, we came across a monument to participants in the Great Patriotic War, erected in honor of the 30th anniversary of the victory over the invaders.

17. Let's pass Morsad, cross K. Bogaevsky Street (formerly Dzerzhinsky) and begin the climb to Quarantine Hill, on which Genoeseskaya is located.

18.Nowadays Genoese fortress only distantly, it reminds of its former greatness. In the 14th century, to protect against the Tatars, Genoese merchants built the first line of the Kafinsky fortress, which later became a citadel. Geometrically correct shapes can still be seen in the remains of defensive walls and dilapidated towers. Two towers are better preserved than others - the corner Clement and the Crisco tower to the northeast with loopholes and embrasures. During times of prosperity, the citadel housed warehouses, churches, the treasury, the residence of the Catholic bishop, and the palace of the consul.
But time has not been kind to this grandiose structure. Now the fortress is almost destroyed. And where there were ancient buildings, private households are now located.

Feodosia is a city with a rich ancient history, but it is already well known to regular tourists who want to expand their horizons beyond its borders. Excursions around Crimea from Feodosia provide such an opportunity. Here it is not difficult to choose routes for one day or several, in civilized conditions and extreme ones, through cultural monuments and into nature.

Hiking and sea walks in Feodosia

City tours are organized on foot and by bus. Their variety is provided by tour operators and private guides. But among the must-see places are the embankments and the Paratroopers, monuments dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War, including the Alley of Heroes, the Antiquities and Green museums, and the Aivazovsky Gallery.

Within the resort there are many historical buildings and museums (for example, the sculptor Mukhina, the author of the famous “Worker and Collective Farm Woman”, hang gliding). You can search for a tour of Feodosia in accordance with your own interests or try several options to finally decide on your capabilities and taste needs.

When ordering a walking tour, keep in mind that it will last several hours. You need to take into account your ability to travel on foot, otherwise there is a high risk of remaining unsatisfied.

Excursions for nature lovers and connoisseurs

It is also easy to sign up for a mountain tour, a horseback ride - on ATVs or horses. Multi-day and one-day races are common. You can also ride along the sea and see the Green Bay of the New World or see the Adalary rocks, the Golden Gate, Cape Ai-Todor and lighthouses. Those who wish are also taken to healing salt lakes.

For lovers of extreme pastimes, Feodosia guides have prepared balloon flights over the mountains and surrounding areas (not a cheap pleasure, but the reviews about them are fantastic), mountaineering and diving into the depths. is more often found in the vicinity of the village of Beregovoe; when ordering excursions, the company provides the client with the necessary equipment and instructions. It is important to know that children under 12 years old cannot be invited to scuba dive.

Feodosia has also developed many mini-tours that allow you to relax in nature and explore historical sights within one day. These include forays into Old Crimea and excursions to cave settlements and Mangup-Kale. This also includes visiting the most famous monuments of landscape gardening art (Forossky or park).

Historical excursion tours around Crimea

From Feodosia it is not difficult - by water or land - to get to any point in Crimea. The most popular direction is the southwest. Holidaymakers are invited to visit the New World (with a tour of the Genoese fortress, the Museum of Winemaking and a walk along the Golitsyn Trail). It is convenient to go there by sea. Sea excursions are also organized in Yalta. “Finding” a place for a trip to the palaces of the South Coast (Vorontsovsky, Livadia, Massandra) or during the season can be difficult. Night walks along the Yalta Riviera are especially original. Big Yalta is the leader among excursion tours around Crimea from Feodosia.

Bakhchisarai is a must-see destination for wanderlust lovers. A typical option involves visiting the Khan's Palace, the historical core and the cave. Sevastopol is richly represented.
Due to the extreme diversity of the hero city, corners usually offer a limited range (overview of the Sevastopol center, places of military glory, medieval monuments, religious complexes). But this is enough to tire the most experienced tourist to death.

It is not difficult to travel from Feodosia to, although this town is often ignored at Crimean resorts. There are archaeological excursions, dedicated and survey, with inspection of medieval and war memorials. Some excursions around Kerch include swimming in the Azov Sea and diving in the mud of lakes, Tobechik or Uzunlar.

Feodosia offers special pilgrimage excursions for believers, and you can visit both Christian and Muslim shrines (Inkerman, Foros, Old Crimea,). Sinners are not forgotten either - wine tours are prepared for them. The first position is occupied by Novosvetovsky production, but winemakers from the Solnechny Valley are also waiting for vacationers. During the trip, you can take part in tastings and buy delicious gifts for friends and relatives in branded stores at the factories.

Prices for many routes for young tourists are noticeably lower than for adults. Sometimes they can be transported for free. Unfortunately, there is also the opposite effect - children are not allowed to go to some excursion sites (in Balaclava) and to extreme entertainment. Parents must decide for themselves about long, intense hiking trips. But kids are allowed, they are the main “agitators” in favor of the attraction.

Feodosia has a rich history, carefully preserves it, and accustoms travelers to cultural, meaningful leisure. A wide range of excursions in and out of the city allows you to satisfy any needs and enable visitors to Crimea to truly understand it.
