Fort Amber - the famous palace complex, consisting of many castles, temples, gardens and pavilions, which took almost 2 centuries. The appearance of this structure causes very ambiguous impressions. On the one hand, the impregnable fortress walls, on the other - a real oriental oasis with wondrous arches, an ancient mosaic, mirrors, fountains and an entangled labyrinth of the moves that hide a great set of secrets.

General

Amber (India) is a majestic structure, towering on a rocky cliff 11 km from Jaipur, the capital of Indian State Rajasthan. His story began in 1592 with the construction of a conventional defensive bastion, designed to defend the Principality of Dhundhar from enemy attacks. Work on this truly grand project was initiated by Raja Singh I, however, it was not possible to enjoy the results of his labor - the famous military leader died long before his end.

For the construction of Fort, which remained the administrative center of these edges, until the foundation of Jaipur, a local sandstone was used. The walls made of this light yellow breed were practically merged with their surrounding panorama. The effect turned out so strong that it is almost impossible to see an amber from afar. This decision was made no coincidence - with frequent military attacks, it played a huge defensive role.

By the way, it was because of this material, many guides claim that the name of the palace occurred from the English word "amber" - "Amber". But, despite the fact that in the pre-orders hour of the walls of the fortress really acquire an orange tint, it is far from the wrong. In fact, the fort is named after the Indian goddess Azba, also known as Durga.

What is curious, the fortified settlements at this place existed for another 1000 years before the events described I. When, by them, they laid the main road to Delhi, strengthening the approach to the residence of Dhundharov became a strategically important task. Moreover, the local Raja was so much afraid of the troops of the Delia Sultanate, which next to the Amber was built another fortress connected to him with numerous underground tunnels. Together with the amber, it forms a powerful defensive structure, the walls of which extend along the mountain hills by almost 20 km. For such impressive dimensions, local residents often refer to her "the Great Indian Wall", hinting at the similarity with the famous Chinese attraction.

The work on the fort ended Jai Singh I, which became the successor of the previous Raji. It is with him that Fort Amber in Jaipur turned into a beautiful palace complex with 4 separate yards, a man-made lake Maota, luxurious mosques and gardens. And even though, after moving the entire princely courtyard to another city, Bastion began to decline, he continued to remain the most important fortifications of Rajastan.

To date, the Amber Palace is part of the Golden Triangle of India and is one of the most visited attractions of the country. In 2013, he was listed as a UNESCO World Taste.

Structure and architecture of the Palace

Despite the centuries-old history of its existence of Fort Amber (Jaipur, India) continues to be the brightest demonstration of the beauty and luxury, which surrounded itself the medieval Indian Raji.

Created in the best traditions of Rajput architectural style, which in those days was at the peak of their development, it is characterized by strict forms and ideally proportional lines. However, behind the simplicity inherent in the exterior walls, the richest interior decoration and various decorations inaccessible to a simple person are hidden.

The internal structures of the fortress are complemented by beautiful balconies, miniature arows, equipped in the corners of roofs and canopies, arched columns created from snow-white marble, and burned windows providing the influx of fresh air.

Features of the Fort structure

Like other structures built in the Rajput period, Amber has several characteristic features. If the central part of the complex occupied prasada, the main residential building consisting of several tiers, attacks and pavilions, the rest of the citadel is divided into 3 different parts. The first is Xiana, women's rooms with open terraces and mini parks. Second - courtyards with personal royal rest, palace forum and work off. Well, the third is a service courtyard in which stalls, warehouses and armory chambers were placed.

Gate, Courtyards and Rooms Complex

The path to the fort begins on the shores of Mother, a small artificial lake, in the center of which is located a picturesque garden of Dalaram. Overcoming a small segment of the path, visitors to the complex will be in front of Jay Paul, central input gates. By the way, another way leads to them. We are talking about a stone staircase with unusually high steps, for which Indian riders moved in former times.

Moving the big patio, next to the first gates, tourists turn out to be a seduge floor or sun gates. They open Japle Choek, the most economical courtyard with barracks, barn, gestures and other service buildings. Following him, you can see the Moon's gates or Chandra Paul leading to two shrines - Jagat Shromani and Narasingha.

Next, the Singh floor or the Lion's Gateway, through which you can go to a sofa-I-amm, a pavilion for business meetings and personal audiences, which support four dozen columns. Some of them are made of marble, others from orange sandstone. What is curious, the upper part of these pilasters has the shape of elephants with raised upwards. They exactly play the role of support for the ceiling. An illuminated sofa-and-am is a small open veranda framed by a beautiful decorative grid.

The next gates of Fort Amber (Rajastan, India) are Ganesh Paul guarding the entrance to the cozy courtyard with personal apartments of Raj. In previous times, access to this part of the palace had only members of the royal family and serving their servants.

If you look right, you can see the Marble Palace of Sukh Nivas, whose carved doors are separated by sandalwood and ivory. The building of this lock is cooled by water, which flows through the quarrels directly in the floor and flows into the vahar bugs, a small Islamic garden. In the immediate vicinity of this place is Jai Nivas, another castle, in the walls of which there are many amazing objects.

Among them, Yash Mandir deserves the greatest attention (Hall of Glory), Shish Mahal (SLR) and sofa-and-khas. Walls and semicircular ceilings are first two decorated with a huge amount of broken mirrors, gilded tiles and glass pieces. All these elements are folded into a unique pattern that creates the effect of a stellar skyscland, even with the presence of a single lit candle. As for the second, its overlap is decorated with a relief floral ornament, a border, created from semi-precious stones, all sorts of drawings and inlay, made of an ancient color mosaic.

Almost under the roof of Jai Nivas is equipped with a special platform, at which the courtyard arrived at the arrival of the cold. The last element of Fort Amber is Xenana, a complex labyrinth, in the rooms of which the female half lived exclusively. Being in this part of the complex, unwittingly feel the presence of Maharani (Korolev) and Kumari (princesses), who led so calm and secluded lifestyle, which could be discovered only on the quiet chime of foot bracelets.

With numerous galleries and flat roofs of the palace, which are also used for promenades, offers a beautiful view of the vintage citadel, impregnable mountain peaks, defensive towers and the peaceful waters of Lake Maota, stretching somewhere far away.

Practical information

  • Castle Amber, located at Devisionhpura, Amer, Jaipur 302001, India.
  • It works daily from 08:00 to 17:30.
  • The cost of the visit is about $ 7, but if you come here in the evening, then pay for the entrance only $ 1.5 $.

It should also be noted that with the sunset on the territory of the amber organize sound and light shows, during which visitors are familiar with the story of Fort and the significant events of Rajastan. A ticket to an English-speaking representation costs up to $ 3, on Hindi - 2 times cheaper. It lasts such an event for about an hour.

On a note! Those who are going to spend at least a week in Jaipur, we advise you to purchase an integrated ticket for which you can visit not only this fortress, but also 3 of the Palace Complex, the ancient Observatory Jantar Mantar and the Albert Hall Cultural and Historical Museum.

Going to the Fort Amber, take a note of several important tips:

  1. If you are going to climb the territory of the complex on an elephant, we recommend coming directly to the opening. Firstly, this "type of transport" builds a huge queue, and secondly, the number of elephants is limited, so they can simply not be enough for everyone. In addition, each animal can make only 4 trips, after which they are sent to relax until the next day.

  2. You can get into the fort and by car, but because of one-sided movement there is a high probability not to break the cow on the path. To the main attraction of Rajastan, you, of course, will still fall, but it can take a little longer than you expected.
  3. Tips in India are taken to give everyone - from waiters to the doorman and maids. Fort workers are expected to be expected on a small remuneration - snake caster, photographers, traffickers, etc. The latter receives 100 rupees from each animal.
  4. At the entrance to the fortress you will probably offer to buy some souvenir (as a rule, one or several of several elephants). Do not hurry to agree - at the exit the same product will cost much cheaper.
  5. In general, with street merchants in Amber should be careful. If you do not plan to buy anything, let's sweep the most rejected look and try not to even meet with them. It is worth entering into the conversation at least with one of such Deltsov, as other things right away. This company will accompany you to the landing on the elephant, and if you still agree to buy something, also be confused under your feet.
  6. Do not forget to take a light snack and water. It will take at least 4 hours to inspect the entire territory, and the air temperature in India is rarely lowered below + 30 ° C.

  7. Another feature of the fort are local photographers. They click tourists throughout the lift, and then offer to buy these pictures for $ 8-9 (in the album 15 pieces, but better to recalculate). But do not be enough for the first sentence. To start, look for photos made from the highest points (they are very beautiful species), and then merge well.
  8. Free alternative to local photographers will be other tourists. Agree with those who go ahead and behind you, and then exchange snapshots by email.
  9. Walking along the Fort Amber in India is better with a professional guide. There are so many lasers, rooms and corridors, that without him you will definitely miss something.
  10. Arriving in Jaipur in December-January, prepare for all morning photos a gray haze will be attended. It is nothing more than mixed with could fog. The reason for their appearance is the strong differences of day and night temperatures.

Trip to Fort Amber by car:

Related records:

Through one of the gate, or through the sourage floor (Suraj Pol; Sunny Gate).

Either through the chand floor (Chand Pol; Lunar Gate), you get into the first courtyard called Jaleb Chowk (Jaleb Chowk; Main Courtyard).

The gates are waiting for musicians who can play at least "Kalinki - Malinka" for the Donishen.

But beware of all sorts of snake spellcasters, they are much more dangerous than their wards and prices can surprise you, or negotiate in advance, or are to blame.

The first courtyard meets, bustle and souvenir shops, immediately arranged stores in which the most expensive bottled water is sold in India. In one of the corners of the courtyard there is a ticket office, there are also parking elephants with which you can make pictures for memory. In short, the place is ideal for relaxing before visiting the palace.

What I know about the Amber Palace. Amber Palace is a huge, magnificent complex of pale yellow buildings, which is located 10 kilometers from modern Jaipur. Local residents utter "Amer", the palace got its name on behalf of the Burning of Amba, also known as Durga, and not from the word that translates from English as "amber".

It will be useful to bring the scheme of the entire palace here, so that it would be easier to navigate.

1. Suraj Pol (Victory or Solar Gate Gate) - The main entrance, pedestrians and elephants fall into the fortress through them, on the opposite side of the yard there are CHAND POL (Moon Gate).
2. Jaleb Chowk (main courtyard) - The place where the military parades passed, the courtyard around the perimeter was surrounded by the barracks, today there are souvenir shops in them.
3. Temple of Callades dedicated to Cali - The place of death of goats, they were scored here.
4. Hall of public receptions Diwan-I-am.
5. Mirror palace.
6. Ganesh Ganesh POL gate - lead to the private part of the complex, which consists of 3 palaces.
7. Palace Suk Mandir (Hall of pleasures) - Personal recreation Maharaja and his family.
8. Baradari. - Arbor in the very center of the female yard.
9. Zenana. - A part of the palace in which hearer was located.

The palace was built by Rajputi, which were from Gwalior (Gwalior). Honestly buried in military campaigns, good helped them strike the palace of Amber. Construction began in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh, later Amber increased and finally completed the construction of the Jai Singh (Jai Singh), but soon everyone moved to Jaipur, to the plain down.

So, you have left and bought a ticket to visit the Amber Palace, but before entering the second yard through the Singh Gate Paul, roll up before the ladder leading up to the right and go to the Hindu Temple of Ciladevi Temple. The temple is famous for the fact that until 1980 cut the goat every day. Animals stopped to kill daily only after a special government decision. At the moment of my visit, the gate in the Label temple was tightly closed. But now this door will be in my photocollection.

Singh Pol (Lion Gate) lion gates themselves look ambitious and it is in them that the incoming and checking of tickets take place.

Coming out of a lion gate, you have another courtyard in which several pearls of the palace complex are located at once. It took place at the receptions of citizens in top of the time at that time.

The gallery of this courtyard is of interest among tourists, so photos will be "group".

The most common door, but looks gorgeous.

If you turn right, then Ganesh Color (Ganesh POL) is waiting for you, through their painted walls you can easily go to the next courtyard.

Set aside your cameras and simply admire the beauty and luxury, any photos here are frown.

Through a narrow and long corridor you can climb to Suhag Mandir (Suhag Mandir), it is located exactly above the gate of Ganesha and skillfully complement them. The Suhag Mandir windows are closed with carved lattices, hence the court ladies, watched the life outside the palace walls.

And what are the ceilings in the palace, is the likelihood that the painting is a modern restoration, but how then did everything look like during the construction?

There are halls of the palace in which the beauty of painted ceilings is much brighter than the room itself and in each room its pattern.

Strictly opposite the palace of mirrors, through a miniature garden, there is a hall with a pathoral name "Hall of pleasures" Sukh Nivas (Sukh Niwas).

Through the "Hall of Pleasures", you can go into the female part of the palace, in my opinion everything is logical, from one "Hall of Pleasions" straight in the second.

Surrounded by blackened mold of walls, in the very center of the courtyard there is a pavilion from White Marble, 12 columns of which can tell about all the meetings of Maharaj with his wives, but marble is silent. Here and today it is very comfortable, on comfortable wicker chairs you can relax from the examination of the palace and its courtyards.

Women's chambers are another courtyard and through the mold of the walls appears the pink color of the blots, once it was like in a Barbie house.

Most doors in women's chambers are closed and there is no possibility to see how ladies lived in those times and how luxurious their rooms were.

The female part of the palace is the furthest yard, but through this courtyard there is an exit to the street, like most medieval palaces and fortresses Amber also have secret doors, stairs and even underground move towards Fort Jaigarch. I found one of the secret moves, but the further my studies were strictly supplied by the security and sent me in the direction of which I appeared. :)

Opening hours: 8:00 - 17:30

Login: 500 rupees.

How to get: from Chandpole station on a taxi or motor ski. You leave the subway and say "Hava Mahal." And for one hundred rupees you are brought to the palace of winds. By the way, now in the construction process there are two metro stations, and soon the yield will immediately have Mahala. As you got to the palace of winds, you need to approach it and catch a 29 bus, which can be stopped by the palace and go to the north (direction from the square with the metro under construction). See the pond and the walls of the amber-forty, go out. Locals are also actively prompting that it is already time.

Fort Amber is built in the style of romantic Rajasthan architecture and is 11 km from Jaipur. The fort from all sides is surrounded by hills, on the tops of which a fortress wall with sentigious towers passes.

Tip from the tourist: At the checkout, you can buy a comprehensive ticket for 1000 rupees for several attractions, which operates 2 or 3 days, you can rightfully go to the Khava-Mahal Palace, Albert Hall Cultural and Historical Museum, Ancient Jantar Mantar Observatory and two more palace complex.

One of the biggest impressions produces a wall surrounding Ford. Its length is about 20 km, and it is akin to the Great Wall of China, there is where to turn around.

Ford Ford himself, neglected, unprepactly I would say, because The government is not engaged in its restoration. Therefore, to get more pleasure you need to remove from the modern state of the fort, and looking at the openwork patterns of buildings, to imagine how it looked before.

Especially remember the mirror walls. In the mirror hall on one column of marble, a magic flower is cut out, in which about 20 animals are hidden.

If you do not eat Elefantastic to the reserve, here you can catch up and ride on an elephant top to the vertex of the fort. Such a walk costs 1000-1300 rupees. During the trip, the locals will actively photograph, and then try to sell the album for money. The price begins with 1000 rupees, at the end of the bargaining near the bus, you can agree for 200 rupees - it all depends on your talent of the negotiators.

The fort is located on the hillside, and its walls reflect in the waters of the lake. This place is historical, so in order for the trip to be useful, you need to either take a guide or prepare in advance.

The territory of the Fort is divided into three main parts: the first is the service courtyard, the second part is the courtyards with personal apartments, the treasury and chapel, the third part is women's apartments with small terraces.

The inner decoration of the Fort is exquisite and rich in terms of architecture. Balconies, stone grilles, columns, arches, arbors.

Inside the fort, on the first yard, there are many souvenir shops. A little further - the temple of Sila Davy dedicated to the militant goddess of Kali. On huge open terraces, you can often see wild monkeys. If you move deep into the temple, you get into the hall of pleasure, not far from which there is a channel used earlier as a water storage. From the Temple of the Gai Mandir next to the shakers of Maharaja offers a wonderful view of the whole complex and the lake below.

Here you will get acquainted with the local flavor, see Indian women in traditional outfits. The palace in his architecture resembles a labyrinth, from the room to the room, along the long corridor in Hamam, from Hamam to the sofa, from the sofa in the harem and the room-room rooms again.

Plan 2 hours to visit this place. It is better to come in early in the morning, while not so hot and there are no tourists. Do not forget to take water and shoes comfortable shoes, because We'll have to rise a lot, and then go down, and on the street it is very stuffy and hot.

Tip from tourist: In Fort Amber, you can visit the light and sound show, which is held every day in the evenings. A ticket for a show in English costs 200 rupees, on Hindi - 100. You will hear a story about the history of Fort and significant events from the state of the state accompanied by a multicolored illumination of the fort. The show lasts about 1 hour. In addition, after 6 pm, you can take a walk through the night forty. The cost of this entertainment is 100 rupees, whereas in the daytime - 500.

If at the end of the way, strength and time will remain, visit the art gallery, very interesting paintings.

The only thing that can spoil the impression a little is obsessive sellers of unnecessary trash. But it is best to get used to India.

Tip from the tourist: if you travel one, do not take annoying guides at the entrance. There are many policemen on the territory of the palace, who will be happy to tell you the direction and if you give one of them 100 rupees will show even closed places.

Another fort - Jaigar is located above the Fort Amber.

Fort Jaigar.

Opening hours: 9:00 - 16:30.

Input: 200 rupees.

He was built in the Gay Singh in 1726. The observation towers of this fort are well preserved, and it is here that the world's largest wheel cannon is located.

There is a park in the palace, they filmed a film with James Bond. Monkeys here are nonpougly, but be careful with them and stay away just in case - quite large individuals come across.

Tip from the tourist: the fortress is over the Amber Fortress. They are often confused. You can go up through an underground-ground transition directly from Amber, and you can immediately drive up with a beautiful mountain road. Fort himself is dirty and little interest, but views of the mountains, and the space that has opened, probably the most impressive in Rajastan.

If after this fort is free time, then you can walk or on Tuk-Tuka will go to NaharGarh Fort. If you go on foot, go about 4km,

Inside the Ambar complex there is a jal-mahal-palace surrounded by a thousand chrkl.

Jal-Mahal

Here the ceilings and walls in all halls of this small room are decorated with small mirrors. It is said that thanks to this, it becomes light even from one candle. And on one of the columns of the palace carved from marble "Magic flower". This is a special landmark. A lot of animals are hidden in this flower: a fishtail, lotus, hoods of cobra, elephant, scorpion and others, each of which is visible in a special way partially hiding individual elements with hands.

As a mirage in the hot desert, the Palace of Gal-Mahal, standing on the water stroit, appears before your gaze. How and why it turned out to be in the middle of the lake, where the road leading to him - there are many questions, and it turns out that each of them has a reasonable answer.

The Palace of Jal-Mahal in India was originally built on land as an architectural complex designed for the summer holiday of the rulers of India. There is a palace among low green mountains, in an excellent valley, striking all with his painting. But when a terrible drought began in India, threatened to people with a hungry death, the ruler decided to establish a dam, turning the valley where Gal Mahal was located. Over time, the resulting brand was filled with water, which people began to use for irrigation of the fields. Hunger retreated, the inhabitants were saved, and the first floors of the building would forever plunge into the water surface. Therefore, there is no gap between the palace and the surface of the water, therefore there are no roads leading to the palace.

The building of the Palace is a typical building typical for hot countries - four walls limit the space of the courtyard, and in the corners - the dome turrets. Unfortunately, you can admire all this beauty you can only published - the palace is closed for visits. But the side view is enough to assess the unusualness and originality of this place.

The decoration of the building is inlaid by local semi-precious stones and mirrors from Belgium. The lower part of the mirrors is replaced with new (unfortunately, the original were destroyed by people, not a time), but this does not spoil the overall impression. Moreover, how nice to consider old pieces of mirrors with a raid time, comparing them with ideal new "counterparts". It is a pity that it is impossible to get inside, but also from the outside you can spend a lot of time, admiring this beauty.

The city was founded during the reign of Maharaja Bhagwan Dasha as a residence of his second son Mado Singha and was quite a long time for a very successful Indian city. Gradually, its influence decreased and after the famine of 1783 he became uninhabited.

According to one of the legends, the city was cursed by a magician named Bala Nath. Initially, he blessed the construction of the city, provided that the shadows of the palaces, which are built in it, should not concern the place of his meditations, otherwise the city will be destroyed. But neither Raja nor his son listened to him and eventually the city began to collapse. Since then, with the construction of new houses, they destroyed the roof.

Today it is a deserted destroyed place, located in which you can only during the daytime. This is governed by almost at the level of the law: when entering the city, the Archaeological Administration of India is installed, which indicates that the foundation in the city after sunset is prohibited.

Amber built Kachwah Rajput, which were from gloa, now Madhya Pradesh, and ruled there more than 800 years. Due to the troubled during the wars, they financed the construction of the Amber Fortress Castle, which began in 1592 Maharaja Man Singh, Rajput and Commander-in-Chief of the Akbar army. Later, Amber increased and finished the Gay Singha before they moved to Jaipur, to the plain down. Dominating over the gorge, the Fort gave a military advantage, but did not fit for the direction of the development of the capital, prepared by him in Jay Singh.

The road to Amber runs through the typical landscapes of Rajasthan, with the bulk of the hills around the lake Maota, where the buffaloes are lazy on the shore, near the water. Perhaps you will fall on your eyes a camel that pulls the loaded cart.

This magnificent fortress is more like a city: built of pale yellow and pink sandstone and white marble, it is divided into four main sections, and each has its own yard. Fort Amber is also an exquisite sample of the wealth of Maharaj: artists expelled by Emperor Aurangzeb, worked on columns and arches, and also decorated the gallery around the building of the hall of public audiences.

You can fly to the fortress from the road about 10 minutes (Cooling drinks can only be used at the top). To get to the fortress on the jeep costs 200 rupees. Very popular Elephant Back Skating (900 rupees for two passengers; 8.00-11.00 and 15.30-17.30).

On foot or on an elephant you get into the fortress through the sourage floor (Solar Gate)who lead to Japlee Choek (chief court)where the army who returned from the campaign demonstrated their prey to the public - women could watch this through the curtained windows of the palace. Ticket office is located through the yard from the sunny gate. If you arrived by car, you will get inside through the chand (Lunar gates) On the opposite side of Japle Choek. We highly recommend hiring a guide or take an audio guide, as there are little explanations and a lot of hidden passages.

From Japle Choek there is a massive staircase upstairs, to the main Palace of Fort Amber, but first turn right along the steps, which will lead to the small temple of the Cinema (Ciladevi Temple; Photographing is prohibited; 6.00-12.00 and 16.00-20.00). This temple is devoted to the goddess of strength, the embodiment of the bloodthirsty goddess Kali. On the silver doors of the temple, it is depicted sitting riding on different animals. Her statue was brought here from Bengal, where Kali cult is particularly popular. Every day from the XVI century to 1980 (when the government banned this practice) They sacrificed a goat.

If you return to the main staircase, you will fall to the second yard and to the sofa-and-am (Hall of public audiences) With a double column, each of which is crowned with an elephant, and on them - lattice galleries.

In the third courtyard of Fort Amber, apartments Maharadoki are located - the entrance through Ganesh Paul (Ganesh POL), decorated with mosaic and sculptures. Jai Mandir (Hall victories) It is famous for Indian panels and a ceiling of many mirrors. Panels made of carved marble throughout the hall are made of amazing elegant patterns in the form of insects and flower motifs.

Opposite Gay Mandir is Sukh Nivas (Hall of pleasures) With the doors of sandalwood, inlaid ivory, and the channel, for which water is once inside. From the jay Mandir offers a wonderful view of the bastion and the picturesque lake Maota.

Xenana (female chambers) Surrounds the fourth courtyard of Aberman. The rooms were designed so that Maharaj could attend the rooms of one of his wives and concubines and the rest would not know about it; Each rooms are not interconnected, but go into a common corridor.
