Review article about Phi Phi beaches, the best beaches of Phi Phi, which beach is suitable for families with children, and which of the island’s beaches should be chosen by young and active people :)

Beaches of Phi Phi Don

Tonsai Beach

Tonsai Beach - the most popular beach on Phi Phi Don island. It is located in the bay of the same name in the south of the isthmus. In the center of Tonsai the sea is not swimmable; the main pier of the island is located there, where this part of the coast is filled with boats. In the western part of Tonsai Beach you can swim during high tide; here the beach strip is quite wide, the sand is clean, and Phi Phi hotels with their own beaches are located nearby. The eastern part of Tonsai Beach is calmer and less crowded, and is quite suitable for a beach holiday. Tonsai Beach is shallow and highly subject to tides. It is impossible to swim at low tide.

Near the beach there is the village of the same name, Tonsai Village, where the main infrastructure of Phi Phi Island is concentrated: hotels, restaurants, shops, a market, excursion agencies. A pleasant promenade stretches along the sea. Nightlife in Tonsai is represented by restaurants and bars, but generally they all close at 11-12 at night. Lo Dalam Beach

Loh Dalum Beach is located on the opposite side of the isthmus, a 10-minute walk from Tonsai. A nice beach in an almost closed bay, the sea here is shallow and always calm. The beach has quite fine white sand, a good entry into the sea, but, unfortunately, Lo Dalam beach is also highly susceptible to low tides, during which the sea goes almost to the end of the bay, exposing sharp stones and fragments of coral.

Lo Dalam beach is the most party beach on the island of Phi Phi Don, this is where everything is concentrated, right on the seashore there are the most popular bars and discos, where fire shows start from 9 pm, and then young people drink, dance and have fun almost until the morning. After nightly gatherings, the beach is cleaned in the morning, but there is still garbage left in some places. Details about Lo Dalam beach with photos and videos:

Long Beach

Long Beach – my favorite beach on Phi Phi Don island. Quite a long beach with clean white sand and bright blue sea. There are low tides, but they do not interfere with swimming. The entrance to the sea is quite sharp; you can swim almost immediately near the shore. There are no stones or coral fragments at the bottom, the bottom is clean and pleasant to the touch. Not far from the shore there is a coral reef and Shark Point, where you can see sharks (early in the morning!). There are only a few hotels on Long Beach, you can rent a sun lounger and an umbrella, and there is a fresh shower. After 9-10 pm life on Long Beach comes to a standstill; at night it is quiet. An ideal place for a long holiday on Phi Phi. You can get to Long Beach from Tonsai either through the jungle or by boat for 100 baht per person (day rate). More details about Long Beach here:

Monkey beach

Monkey Beach , the beach where monkeys live :) A small beach in a bay west of Lo Dalam. The beach is very beautiful: lush green vegetation, rocks that come almost close to the shore, snow-white sand and many wild monkeys :) There are no hotels on Monkey Beach, and you can’t get to it by land. You can only get to Monkey Beach by water: by boat or kayak from Lo Dalam. A visit to this beach on Phi Phi Don island is part of all the activities, so there are a lot of tourists here during the day. Read about Monkey Beach here:

Nui beach

Nui Beach – a small beach in a secluded bay north of Lo Dalam. You can only get there by kayak or boat.

Phi Phi Don beaches in the bays southeast of Tonsai

If you follow the path along the sea from Tonsai to Long Beach, there will be four bays with small beaches along the way. The first two beaches are near the Bay View Resort and Arayaburi Resort hotels in quiet calm bays, a little further are the hotel beaches.

If you want almost your own beach, then choose one of these hotels on Phi Phi.

One of the beaches in the bay on the way from Tonsai to Long Beach
Beach of the Viking Resort Hotel

Loh Moo Dee Beach is located south of Long Beach, behind a rocky cape. There are no hotels or other infrastructure, but only one small cafe. The beach is attractive because here, unlike other Phi Phi Don beaches, palm trees grow on the shore, a lot of palm trees :) and not deciduous or coniferous trees. The palm grove is the hallmark of Loh Moo Dee beach. And there are almost never tourists here!

You can get to this beach by boat (600 baht for two one way from Tonsai), by kayak or on foot through the mountains. If you go from Long Beach, you need to go through the last hotel Phi Phi The Beach Resort, follow the signs up the mountain, and then go down through the palm grove to the beach.

Northern beaches of Phi Phi island

Northern beaches of Phi Phi, namely Laem Tong Beach And Loh Bagao Bay We didn’t have time to visit, I can only say that these are the beautiful beaches of Phi Phi Island for a quiet and relaxing holiday. They are located quite far from all the main infrastructure and entertainment of Phi Phi, you can get there either on foot through the mountains (walk to, climb up, and then go down the path through the jungle on the other side) or by boat by sea. A ferry from Phuket goes to Laem Thong Beach a couple of times a day.

The best hotels on Phi Phi Island are located on these beaches, suitable for a relaxing family or romantic vacation.

And now about the beaches of Phi Phi, which are located on neighboring islands and are part of the Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park. To visit these beaches you need to pay entrance to the national park, the official cost is 400 baht for adults and 200 baht for children. Of course, there are no hotels on these beaches.

Maya Bay Beach

Maya Bay Beach – a beach in the bay of the same name on the island of Phi Phi Le. It became very popular among tourists after the release of the film “The Beach”. The bay is actually very beautiful, closed on almost all sides by high rocks, lush tropical vegetation, clear sea, but the idyll is spoiled by numerous boats and tourists. It is better to visit the beach in the first half of the day. Details about Maya Bay beach:

Bamboo Beach

Chic beach on Bamboo Island - this is where the real tropical paradise is 🙂 Almost “Bounty”, but without palm trees 🙂 Snow-white sand, bright azure sea, a good reef with fish nearby. Despite the large number of tourists on the beach you can find an almost secluded place. I recommend coming here for the whole day. More details about Bambu beach here:

Small narrow beach on Mosquito island . There are no people, no civilization either :) A good place for relaxation and snorkeling.

Beach on Mosquito Island

Which beach on Phi Phi should you choose for your holiday? What are the best beaches in Phi Phi?

Of all the beaches I visited, I liked it the most beach on Bamboo island And Long Beach on Phi Phi Don.

If you are young and active, if your main purpose of visiting Phi Phi is an excursion during the day and dancing on the beach in the evening, then it will be most convenient to stay in Tosnai or Lo Dalam. If you are looking for a place for a beach holiday or a holiday with children on Phi Phi and nightlife does not interest you at all, then choose the northern beaches of Phi Phi: Laem Thong or Lo Bahao. If you mostly want to get a beach holiday, but still plan to get out in public several times in Tonsai or Lo Dalam, then choose Long Beach, and I also highly recommend considering the Viking Resort Hotel, which not only has It has two small beaches in bays, and is also conveniently located between Tonsai and the best beach on the island!

One of the first questions that tourists interested in the Phi Phi Islands ask is where these islands are located. If you look at the world map, you will not see such islands on it. Moreover, they are not always marked on the map of Thailand.
When people see the amazing beaches of Phi Phi in photographs, they immediately ask, “Where are the Phi Phi Islands?” They may not even think about going to these islands, but they are still interested in knowing where this paradise is. The question is also of interest to tourists who want to visit Phi Phi during their tour to Thailand. Although you can get to the islands from anywhere in Thailand, the easiest way to do this is from the provinces of Krabi and Phuket.
Where to find the Phi Phi Islands on a map of Thailand? They are located in the southwestern corner of Thailand, in the Andaman Sea. This is worth highlighting as most (90%) of the Thai coastline is on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, which is part of the Pacific region.
Phi Phi Islands is located at the southern tip of the beautiful Phang Nga Bay, south of the beautiful island of Yao Yai. It is just 1 hour and 30 minutes by ferry from Railay Beach or Lanta Pier. To the west of Phi Phi lies the famous island of Phuket, with its long sandy beaches and stylish 5-star hotels.

Phi Phi Don Island on the map of Thailand

Detailed map of Phi Phi Don island

One of the most popular destinations in Thailand is the Phi Phi Islands, which are among the most beautiful natural islands in the world. They are part of the Krabi province, consist of only 6 islands and they are protected by the Hat Nopparat Thara National Park.
The largest island of the archipelago is Phi Phi Don. It is followed by Phi Phi Le, Mai Pai, Ko Yung, Bida Nok and Bida Nai.
A good one-word description of the Phi Phi Islands would be "Paradise". Surrounded by the Andaman Sea, the islands offer simply breathtaking views and crystal clear waters. The beaches here are lined with beautiful soft white sands. Limestone mountains are another impressive feature of these islands.
The Phi Phi Islands are not like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Phuket, for example. However, they can offer certain things that other islands cannot offer. The sheer beauty of the natural landscape and vibrant atmosphere are the main features of the Phi Phi Islands.

It's time to collect all the information about the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand into one big article: Phi Phi Island - travel guide🙂 I must say that while studying information about Phi Phi before the trip, I came to the conclusion that despite the fact that there seems to be a lot of information about this region on the Internet, it is not easy to find something useful there for an ordinary tourist: mainly on the Internet or descriptions of Phi Phi from travel companies offering excursions and mentioning that Phi Phi is a paradise island with Bounty beaches, the best beaches in Thailand :) Or reviews of tourists and bloggers who visited there for 1-2 days and talk about that Phi Phi is a youth party island with colorful fire shows and high prices. Because of all these reviews, I had the not very correct opinion that there is nothing to do on the island for more than 3-4 days. It’s good that I still didn’t listen to the majority and planned 6 full days on Phi Phi, and after that on Ao Nang – 7 days. Although it was necessary to do the opposite: leave more days for the Phi Phi archipelago, but in Ao Nang 2-3 days would have been enough.

Phi Phi Island in Thailand

Phi Phi Archipelago

The Phi Phi archipelago consists of 6 islands:

  • Phi Phi Don
  • Phi Phi Le
  • Mai Phai - Bamboo Island
  • Koh Yung - Mosquito Island
  • Bida Nok
  • Bida Nai

Map of the Phi Phi archipelago

Of these, only one island, Phi Phi Don, is inhabited; it is there that all the tourist infrastructure is located: hotels, shops, restaurants, tour agencies, etc. and so on. And on the neighboring island of Phi Phi Le, in Maya Bay, the film “The Beach” was filmed.

One of the beaches on Phi Phi Don island
Phi Phi Le Island

The islands of the Phi Phi archipelago are included in the Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, for which you have to pay to visit:

  • 400 baht per adult
  • 200 baht per child
  • 20 baht for being on Phi Phi Don island. Payment is collected immediately at the pier upon arrival on the island.

The Phi Phi Islands are located in Krabi Province in the south of Thailand. Tourists often confuse what Krabi is and, when vacationing in Ao Nang, they say that they are vacationing in Krabi (Ao Nang is also part of the Krabi province), but when vacationing on Phi Phi, for some reason I think that they are no longer in Krabi :) Further in the article we will talk about Phi Phi Don island in Krabi.

Phi Phi Don Island. general information

Phi Phi Don Island is the largest of all six islands in the Phi Phi archipelago. It consists of two hills, between which there is a strip of land - an isthmus, on one side of which is Tonsai Bay, and on the other - Lo Dalam. It is here on the isthmus that all the main infrastructure of the island is located, and the main beaches of Phi Phi are nearby. But the northeast of the island is still very sparsely populated, there are only a few hotels and almost private beaches.

Isthmus between two Phi Phi beaches

In 2004, Phi Phi Don was severely damaged by the tsunami; all the hotels on the isthmuses were destroyed; after the tsunami, the island was rebuilt. Every year the island is being built up more and more, it is no longer the semi-wild island that it was several years ago... oh, we are several, or even ten years late in visiting it...

Now, on a small area of land between Tonsai and Lo Dalam, buildings have been built close to each other: these are guest houses, cafes, restaurants, shops and other infrastructure facilities. On both sides of the narrow streets there are shopping arcades and travel agencies.

Narrow but cozy streets on the isthmus of Phi Phi Don
Streets of Phi Phi Don

Along Tonsai Bay, a well-groomed promenade stretches above the sea, which is so pleasant to stroll along. There are signs all over the island, so it’s unlikely to get lost here. Numerous houses and bungalows go high up into the mountains; to reach some of them you will have to climb steep steps.

In the center of Tonsai there is a long pier for ferries, and Thai longtail boats moor here right next to the shore.

Tonsai: boats await their tourists

Despite the well-groomed and recently renovated streets of the center of Phi Phi, one must understand that there is permanent construction going on on the island, which not only spoils the appearance of the resort island, but also creates noise and dirt. And if you move just a little away from the very center, you will see mountains of garbage that no one plans to remove from the island. There are a lot of new nice hotels with construction waste lying around next to them. If you close your eyes to all this disgrace, then sometimes, walking along the central streets of the village of Tonsai, you get the impression that you are somewhere in.

Unfortunately, in addition to the beauty of the island, I will have to show you this disgrace... The very center of Phi Phi near the market

Phi Phi - the island of cats and cats! I haven’t seen so many fluffy beauties anywhere else in Thailand, but only in :) It’s clear that the cats here are loved, cared for, fed and cherished, they lie imposingly in the middle of the road, at the entrance to shops or cafes and don’t even try to move and let tourists through :) But no dogs were seen on the island. By the way, we didn’t see any rats either. Here are a lot of photos of seals from Phi Phi Don island :)

There are a lot of cats on Phi Phi. Here's one of them
The cats are well-groomed, with collars and even jewelry on their necks :)

Feeding animals on the island, including cats, is strictly prohibited!

Don't feed!

The contingent of vacationers on the island is mainly European and American youth. There are few Russian and Chinese speakers, mostly those tourists who came to the island on a one or two-day excursion to Phi Phi from Phuket. There are almost no families with children either.

Climate: Phi Phi weather

There are two seasons on Phi Phi:

  • Dry season, which lasts from November to mid-April
  • Rainy season from April-May to November

The best time to visit the Phi Phi archipelago is from December to February and, of course, at this time there are the most tourists. During peak season (December-January) prices for everything rise significantly. Is it possible to go to Phi Phi in summer? Yes, if you are not afraid of rain!

How to get to Phi Phi

You can get to Phi Phi by ferry from, or mainland Krabi. You can buy package tickets from any other part of Thailand. The closest airports to Phi Phi are in Phuket and Krabi. If you plan to get to Phi Phi from Moscow, then you need to fly to one of these airports or to.

Check the ferry schedule to Phi Phi and buy tickets (including complex tickets):

Transport on Phi Phi, how to get around the island

There is no ground transportation on Phi Phi Island. I read somewhere that you can rent a bike, but we didn’t see any rental offices or tourists on bikes. Luggage can be carried on a trolley for 50 baht each :)

Luggage delivery - 50 baht per piece

You can move around Phi Phi on foot or by taxi boats (longtail boats) along the sea between the beaches; you can also sail on these boats to neighboring islands. The prices are as follows:

  • Tonsai – Long Beach – 100 baht per person (150 baht after 18:00)
  • Tonsai - Viking Resort Hotel 100 baht per person (150 baht after 18:00)
  • Tonsai - Loh Moo Dee Beach 600 baht for two one way
  • Distant bays in the northeast of the island - 700 - 1200 baht for two one way
  • Boat rental for 3 hours – 1500 baht

Where to live on Phi Phi, Phi Phi Don hotels

There are many hotels and guest houses on Phi Phi Don island, and more and more hotels are being built every year. Cheap guest houses are located on the isthmus, and you can immediately rent a bed in a dorm (a bed in a common room). The best Phi Phi hotels are mainly located in the north of the island, but now hotels of European level have been built in the west of Tonsai Beach.

Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort is a new modern hotel in the west of Tonsai. I recommend!
Cozy bungalows Bay View Resort on the mountainside
Wooden bungalows of the atmospheric Viking Resort hotel in the forest

Housing prices on Phi Phi Island are higher than on the mainland, and indeed in other places in Thailand, but the quality is so-so. Of course, there are no long-term houses or condos here, but you can rent a room in a guest house on a monthly basis. During peak season, you need to book accommodation on Phi Phi in advance, in winter there are more people wanting than there are available housing of normal quality at reasonable prices! Infrastructure on Phi Phi, markets, shops, cafes, restaurants

The island has all the infrastructure necessary for tourists. There is a hospital in the western part of Tonsai, several banks near the pier, and there are many ATMs and currency exchange offices throughout the island.

Phi Phi's only hospital is located in the western part of Tonsai.
Lilac bank right next to the pier
Yellow bank in the center of the isthmus

In the center of the isthmus there is a market where you can buy not only vegetables and fruits, but also fresh fish, so the smell in this part is still the same!

Fruit market. We were full of fruit in Chiang Mai, so on Phi Phi we only bought watermelon and bananas a couple of times

There are no large stores like Tesco and Big C on Phi Phi Island, but there are a couple of 7-year-old stores and other similar markets. Prices even in the chain seven are higher than on the mainland. Read more about prices for Phi Phi in the article below.

Phi Phi has a huge selection of cafes and restaurants. There are also restaurants on the seashore with fresh seafood, there are inexpensive cafes with Thai cuisine, but most cafes offer European dishes! We had a blast there over spaghetti, steaks and other delicacies. We only ordered Thai food a couple of times and it was usually rice with some kind of meat curry. Lots of nice coffee shops with good brewed coffee and cakes.

Italian cafe right next to the entrance to our hotel. There is delicious coffee and cakes
Irish pub with good European food
Delicious yogurt ice cream
Most often we ate at this cafe - Cosmic. There are always a lot of people, it’s not so easy to find a free place in the evening!

There are no shops on Phi Phi, but they sell fast food on the street: pizza, burgers, sandwiches, fruit shakes.

There is no shopping as such on Phi Phi Island, but in the shops you can buy souvenirs, beachwear, swimsuits, flip-flops, and bags. And I must say that it was on Phi Phi that I saw a lot of interesting dresses and handbags. I decided not to buy here, so as not to carry around unnecessary things, but to buy everything I needed before leaving for Ao Nang. As it turned out later, in Ao Nang a completely different assortment is presented (a la the Chinese market), and in Phi Phi there were a lot of original things, a kind of American style. There is a good store of Australian swimsuits, prices of course are 5 kopecks, and 70-100 dollars for a quality swimsuit, I regret that I regretted the money, now I can’t find anything decent for that amount.

Beaches of Phi Phi

The most popular beaches of Phi Phi Don are:

  • Lu Mu Di Beach
  • Laem Thong Beach
  • Beach at Lo Bajao Bay

Unfortunately, all beaches are highly susceptible to tides, and the central beaches of Tonsai and Lo Dalam are very shallow, so it is impossible to swim there at low tide. But Long Beach is good even at low tide :)

What to do on Phi Phi: excursions and activities

1. Observation deck

The first thing that most tourists who come to the island do is go up to the observation deck to enjoy the stunning view and take a photo - the calling card of Phi Phi Don island :) I advise you to go up to the observation deck in the morning, before 11 o’clock, then the sun shines from behind your back and you get beautiful views of two bays and an isthmus. But after lunch the sun will shine into the lens.

Details about the observation deck on Phi Phi:

2. Organized excursions on boats and ships

Each tour agency will offer you various options for excursions to neighboring bays and beaches. There are half-day and full-day excursions, sunset excursions, excursions on longtail boats and on large ships, an overnight excursion on the Maya Bay beach (more precisely, on a ship near the beach), etc. and so on. Important! During the 2018-2019 season Maya Bay is closed to tourists!

Read more about Phi Phi excursions here:

During the excursion we pass through the Viking cave. You can't go inside

3. Individual trips to neighboring islands or beaches

  • I advise you to stock up on water and food and go there for the whole day
  • On the neighboring island of Phi Phi Le. It is advisable to arrive before 10 am before crowds of tourists arrive.

Bamboo Island is a must visit!

4. Kayaking

Rent a kayak for a few hours and visit nearby beaches. For example, from Lo Dalam you can easily get to Monkey Beach and Nui Beach by kayak, and from Long Beach to Lu Mu Di Beach.

You can rent a kayak on the beaches of Phi Phi

5. Snorkeling and diving

The best diving spots in Thailand are located near the Phi Phi Islands, and snorkeling is possible right off the shore. If you want to see reef sharks, go early in the morning to dive at Shark Point near the eastern part of Long Beach. There are several international diving schools on the island where you can obtain a PADI certificate.

6. Rock climbing

7. Lounging on the beach :)

Visiting the best beaches of the island - relaxing on the seashore on a comfortable sun lounger with a delicious cocktail in hand :)

It's good to laze on the beach :)

8. Cooking courses!

Even on such a small island as Phi Phi, you can take a cooking course and learn how to cook a couple of Thai dishes. I’ve been living in the country for two winters in a row and I want to take a cooking course, but I still can’t get there...

Phi Phi nightlife

The nightlife of Phi Phi is exactly why many tourists go to this island :) Discos and bars are located on the isthmus, in the Tonsai and Lo Dalam areas, but still the most vibrant nightlife takes place in Lo Dalam. It is there that the most popular establishments of the island are located, where fire shows begin from 9 pm, which smoothly develop into a fun beach party until the morning.

Let me clarify again: the main nightlife is on Lo Dalam beach (this is the beach on the opposite side of the pier), and not in Tonsai. In Tonsai everything closes at 11-12 pm.

About nightlife on Phi Phi here:

Thai boxing bar

Before going to Phi Phi, I read that everything on this small island is very overpriced. Yes, prices on Phi Phi are higher than on the mainland or, for example, on. But food and alcohol in cafes and restaurants are cheaper here than in Ao Nang or in. But the prices for all sorts of little things at 7 elven are almost 2 times higher! This is especially felt when buying water (28-30 baht on Phi Phi versus 13-14 baht in other places in Thailand) - we drink a lot of water and 3 dollars a day was spent just on water!

Phi Phi prices for food, water, alcohol

  • A 1.5 liter bottle of regular water in a store – 28-30 baht
  • American breakfast in a cafe (eggs, toast, sausages, coffee) – 120 – 180 baht
  • Cappuccino – 60 – 80 baht
  • Fruit shakes – 50 baht
  • Dishes in a Mexican restaurant – 220 – 300 baht
  • Thai style soups – 50-100 baht
  • Meat curry with rice – 70 – 100 baht
  • Pasta – 100 – 150 baht
  • Fish – 300 – 400 baht per piece
  • Burgers with meat – 100 baht
  • Sandwiches – 100 – 120 baht
  • Large slice of pizza on the street - 80 baht
  • Pizza in a cafe – 180 – 250 baht
  • Desserts, cakes – 80 – 100 baht
  • Thai pancakes – 50 – 70 baht
  • Alcoholic cocktails – 100 – 200 baht
  • Buckets of alcohol – 280 – 420 baht
  • Beer in a cafe – 70 – 100 baht
  • Our average bill for dinner for two is 350 – 500 baht

As you can see, prices on Phi Phi for food are quite reasonable and are not much different from prices in other places in Thailand, and the choice of cafes and restaurants is simply huge, everywhere we ate was delicious. But after Phi Phi we moved to Ao Nang, where prices in cafes near the sea were higher.

Phi Phi: myths and reality

Myth 1: Phi Phi is a paradise island with magnificent beaches.

Yes, Phi Phi is a very nice island, but not all the beaches there are heavenly and suitable for swimming :) And there is construction going on everywhere, a lot of garbage that no one cleans up, and not very pleasant smells. Therefore, it cannot be called an island paradise.

Myth 2: Phi Phi is a fun party island where there are constant parties, such as the Full Moon Party.

Yes, on Phi Phi every evening there are incendiary parties on the beach and fire shows, there are many bars with a variety of music, there are a lot of cheerful European youth, but all these joys of life happen only on the isthmus and on Lo Dalam beach. If you live in the north or northeast of the island, you may not even know that there is any fun going on on Phi Phi. If you choose a hotel on Long Beach, it will be quiet at night, but if you wish, you can swim to the village and enjoy the nightlife of the island.

Myth 3: There is nothing to do on Phi Phi for more than 3 days.

In fact, Phi Phi Island deserves a separate vacation :) For example, you can spend 7-10 days here, and for the remaining days of a two-week vacation, plan Bangkok for 2-3 days and the mainland of Krabi for 2-3 days.

Phi Phi Island deserves its own holiday!

My first impressions of Phi Phi Island were very contradictory. Sailing by ferry to the island, I was delighted with the beauty of nature and the purity of the water in the sea, even in the busiest bay.

The most beautiful views of Phi Phi Don island
We sail to the island

Having unloaded ashore and being shocked by the number of tourists, especially after the sparsely populated city, we hurried to the hotel. After resting a bit, we decided to go to the nearest Lo Dalam beach to scout out the situation. We got to the beach after 5 pm and found it in not at all great shape - at that time there was a strong low tide on the island. Crowds, an ugly beach, heat, unpleasant smells - all this created an unpleasant first impression of Phi Phi.

This is how we saw one of Phi Phi’s beaches on the first evening...
And this is what the same beach looks like at high tide

But just a few hours later, the mood improved and life got better: numerous cafes, delicious varied food, inexpensive cocktails, a lot of beautiful young people, a cool fire show on the beach, and the next day in the morning the most beautiful beaches of Phi Phi at high tide and hooray! It's so good here! 🙂 A little later we got to Long Beach and then I completely fell in love with this island, I fell in love with its beaches and the atmosphere that reigns on Phi Phi Don island.

Long Beach is the best beach on Phi Phi and one of the best beaches in southern Thailand

On Phi Phi I liked the combination of a gorgeous beach with sun loungers and umbrellas, good sea, good snorkeling with interesting evening life. I liked the youthful atmosphere, delicious cocktails, night parties and some kind of spirit of youth and carefreeness. The atmosphere was somewhat reminiscent of Phi Phi.

For example, spend 3 nights in an inexpensive hotel on the isthmus or in Tonsai, watch a fire show in the evening, hang out in bars, practice English with foreigners 🙂, and in the afternoon rent a kayak and sail to Monkey Beach, one day take a private boat and spend a whole day on Bamboo Island. And then move to Long Beach for 3-5 days and fully enjoy your beach holiday, slowly moving between bungalows - pool - sea - spa - restaurant.

Come to Phi Phi!

That's all I wanted to tell you about Phi Phi Island in Thailand. If you forgot something or have any questions, ask them in the comments to the article!

A small archipelago off the coast, famous for its picturesque lagoons and beaches. It includes only six islands: two large and four small. Of all the islands in the archipelago, only Phi Phi Don is inhabited. It is famous for its snow-white beaches and gentle, clear sea. The Phi Phi Islands are included in the version of our website.

Geographically, the archipelago is located about an hour from Phuket. For those who love beach holidays, this is simply paradise. The Andaman Sea is transparent to the very bottom, from where reefs with marine life can be seen. The fantastic beauty of the islands attracts thousands of tourists year after year.

The largest and most visited island is, of course, Phi Phi Don. Its area is 28 km². The island is completely pedestrian. There are no vehicles on it except bicycles and carts. The exception is ambulances and police vehicles. The best time to visit the island is from mid-autumn to April. The nearest cities are Phuket and Krabi. You can travel between the islands by boat.

The island of Phi Phi Ley, the second largest in the archipelago, is always full of tourists. The famous film “The Beach” was filmed there. Also, there are several wardens on the island monitoring the condition of the national park. Local residents here get swallow's nests, which they later use to prepare delicacies.

Mai Phai Island is great for scuba diving or snorkeling. The surrounding area has colorful coral reefs and several good beaches. Bida Nok and Bida Nai consist of sheer cliffs. There is also a rich underwater world around these small islands. Well, the last island, Koh Yung, which is located north of Phi Phi Don, has several sandy beaches.

1. Map of the Phi Phi Islands: location in the Andaman Sea

A map of the Phi Phi Islands in the Andaman Sea, which clearly shows the location of the archipelago in relation to such popular resorts as Phuket Island and the mainland of Krabi province. Despite the fact that on the map the Phi Phi Islands occupy the main area, their size is relatively small, the actual size of the islands highlighted in yellow on the map can be imagined by looking at the point of their actual location, which is circled in white. This Phi Phi map shows the actual distance by sea to Phuket (48 km) and to the coast of Krabi province (42 km).

The same map shows almost all the bays on the islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley, as well as other interesting or useful places to visit: the tourist police office, the Viking cave, the location of hotels on the island, etc. By the way, Krabi province maps, posted on a separate page of the site , also allow you to clearly see the location of the Phi Phi Islands in the Thai waters of the Andaman Sea.

2. Map of Phi Phi Don island with hotels

This Phi Phi island map It also allows you to navigate the location of certain bays, along the shores of which there are mainly beaches of the same name. The map also shows all the observation platforms that allow you to admire the panorama of Phi Phi Don Island from above, having overcome varying degrees of walking. Since the center of island life is a village located on the territory of a narrow isthmus in the central part, most hotels in Phi Phi Island noted in this area. However, several hotels are also noted on other beaches, which can always be reached along narrow island paths or by long-tail boats.

3. Tourist map of Phi Phi Don island: Tonsai village

A map of the central part of Phi Phi Don island, which can be very useful when searching for a specific hotel you are interested in and simply for quickly navigating around the island and quickly finding the infrastructure you need. This map of Phi Phi Don shows the main island ferry pier (next to which the ferry itself is shown on the map), the main streets of the island village are drawn, on which hotels and guesthouses of the island, numerous excursion bureaus, cafes, bars, restaurants, massage parlors, branches are marked banks, post office, tourist police and much other useful information. Since the map covers only part of the island of Phi Phi Don, it shows the directions along which you need to move from the island village to the local hospital, to this or that beach or observation deck of Phi Phi Don island.

4. Map of Phi Phi Don island with ferry schedule

A fairly universal map, which also shows the main village on Phi Phi Don island. A distinctive feature of this map is that hotels and guesthouses are not marked on it, but most bars, restaurants, cafes and tourist offices are marked. It is also very pleasant that this map of Phi Phi Don shows the stores of the popular retail chain 7Eleven, which are distinguished by a wide range and reasonable prices. However, the main value of this card is the ferry schedule, with which you can get to Phi Phi from Krabi, go to Phi Phi Don from Phuket, get to Phi Phi Don or leave from it to Koh Lanta or to the mainland resort of Ao Nang. Below the schedule you can clearly see the ferry routes that transport passengers between the main Thai resorts in the Andaman Sea.

5. The best map of Phi Phi Don island in high resolution

This map of the central part of Phi Phi Don island, in my opinion, is the best, not so much because of its information content. which, by the way, is at its best, but also thanks to its technical execution. Firstly, the map is presented in high resolution, i.e. Even with significant magnification, blurring of objects and fonts does not occur. Secondly, the main background of the card is the usual white color. Perhaps it is not so beautiful and colorful, but from the point of view of the speed of finding the necessary information, this is a big plus: all fonts and icons are perfectly readable and do not merge with each other.

Despite the fact that this map of Phi Phi Island does not have an extensive “legend”, which usually allows you to quickly decipher the meaning of certain icons, this cannot be called a disadvantage of this map, because almost all the icons are duplicated with perfectly readable text information. In general, the map shows almost everything that travelers on Phi Phi Island might need: many hotels, locations of bank branches, ATMs, chain stores, catering outlets, bars, tour desks, attractions, diving schools, massage parlors, etc.

Another very interesting feature of this map of Phi Phi Don island is the route marked on it from the ferry pier to the main observation deck of the island, which is its calling card. You just need to follow the route marked with a dotted line and check the correctness of your actions by the objects located on the sides. That's all for now Phi Phi island maps, which in my opinion contain all the necessary information for a holiday on the island. I wish you a pleasant stay in this amazing place!
