Compartment carriage

This carriage usually has 32 or 36 seats. In a compartment, the lower seats are odd and the upper seats are even. The compartments are isolated from each other and are locked. The compartment has a mirror, a table, hangers and hooks for clothes, as well as a night lamp for each passenger. In a single-decker carriage you can sit freely on the top bunk in the compartment, but in a two-decker carriage it is uncomfortable because the ceiling is low. There is a niche under the ceiling for luggage (available only in single-deck carriages).

Second-class car

The carriage has 9 compartments with 6 berths each: two upper, two lower and two side. There are no doors between the compartments; they are all connected by a common corridor. All the lower places are odd-numbered, and the upper ones are even-numbered. Places 37 to 54 are “sides”, they are shorter than places in a block of four. Seats 33 to 38 are located near the toilet and may be uncomfortable. The reserved seat has a lot of space for luggage - there are compartments under the lower seats and third shelves. Due to the presence of a third shelf in the upper place in the reserved seat, it is uncomfortable to sit.

Car with seats

First class. It is quite spacious here - there are usually three rows of seats. In total, this carriage has up to 48 seats. Each chair reclines to a reclining position. An LCD TV is often installed under the ceiling in the aisle. The carriage has air conditioning.

Second and third grade. Up to 68 seats in the carriage - up to four rows of seats, less legroom. There may be a small folding table on the back of the front seat. Air conditioning is not guaranteed.

Car with seats (electric trains)

Such trains include “Swallows” and some express trains. First class is more comfortable than the others - there are fewer seats in the carriage, greater distance between the rows.

Luxury carriage (SV) and RIC (2-seater compartments)

The old designation for a luxury car was SV, which means “sleeping car.” It has 8-10 compartments with 2 berths, both located below. Sometimes there are suites with vertical seating. Each shelf resembles a soft sofa - there is a comfortable backrest for sitting. In terms of the level of service, a luxury car is better than a compartment car - a luxury car usually has a button to call the conductor, air conditioning, and on some trains there is also a TV.

RIC - international carriages. Usually they are a little better than those running within the country, since new cars are traveling abroad.

Soft

The soft carriage resembles a hotel room. Each compartment has 1 or 2 beds. If there are two seats, then the lower one is a soft sofa that converts into a bed 120 cm wide. The upper seat is 90 cm wide. The compartment also has a table and an armchair, and there may be a TV and a minibar. They provide you with a hot breakfast and a shower kit, bathrobe and terry towel.

General carriage

Usually this is a reserved seat carriage with three seats on each lower bunk. The side shelves are also used as seating.

"Sapsan"

This one is popular high speed train runs between Moscow and St. Petersburg. In some sections it accelerates to 250 km/h and covers its route in 4 hours, which takes about 8 hours for a regular train. Sapsan also has an increased level of comfort. "Swift"

TKS (TransClassService JSC) is the largest private carrier. It does not have its own trains; under an agreement with JSC Russian Railways, it adds cars to the branded trains of JSC FPC. TKS JSC has only new cars, and it offers many pleasant little things that the state carrier does not have.

As follows from what we talked about above, the price of the trip will differ significantly from others. The guides are polite, the service is good. It is clear that this issue is being addressed. If the bed has not yet been made (for example, the compartment has just been vacated), the conductor will make the bed for you.

Meals in the SV carriage

A travel kit (slippers, napkins, sleep mask), newspapers, drinks and food are available. On a short route (8 hours), hot meals were provided once. The menu is quite varied, everything is brought by the waiter from the dining car half an hour after ordering. The food is delicious.

There were lampshades hanging on the ceiling and every wall. There were also small reading lamps above the beds. There were two toilets in the NE car: one at the beginning and the other at the end. The door had a toilet occupancy indicator and was locked. The toilet smelled nice and was clean.

Comparison of ticket prices to railway transport SV with the cost of travel in reserved seat and compartment cars showed that this type of travel is more expensive. The fare is almost 5 times more expensive than in reserved seat carriage and in 2 - than in the compartment.
