In this article, I decided to highlight all the useful information that I have regarding Zakopane. In a couple of weeks of staying in Zakopane, we managed to find out a lot about this cozy town.

Hotel in Zakopane

At the beginning of December it was no longer easy to find a hotel at an average price. The average in my understanding is in the range of 80-100 zlotys. We looked at a lot of hotels on booking.com and trivago.pl; options that met our requirements were priced at 120 zlotys and above. After a couple of hours of careful searching for a good hotel with a kitchen, a dedicated bathroom, wireless Internet and at a price that was favorable to us, we found a villa with a luxurious view of the mountains near a ski resort for beginners. The hotel cost us 90 zlotys per day, and if we pay for the hotel directly, as the owner of the house Anya said, the price is 80 zlotys per day. The only funny thing was that upon arrival there were a lot of repairmen in the house, and the house was closed to visitors. As it turned out, Anya blocked all the rooms from reservations in her house in order to refresh the rooms before the holidays, but it seems that our request slipped through booking.com at the very last minute. The situation was resolved by us spending the night in a neighboring house with the owner's aunt. I would like to note that this house (my aunt’s) is very cold and costs more, rooms there start from 120 zlotys. The next day we returned to Anya and lived there safely for 2 weeks. The hotel has a kitchenette (shared), the room is very cozy and comfortable, we washed it by hand. The only small negative was that the Internet didn’t work for a couple of days, but we made do with mobile phones. When there were other tenants in the house besides us, it was impossible to cook in the kitchen without incident.

This is the view from the balcony.

Hairdressers in Zakopane

On the 20th of December we went in search of a good hairdresser. We didn’t investigate this issue beforehand; we went to hairdressers not far from our hotel (there are two hairdressers there). In the first - Salon Fryzjerski Perła, they refused me as soon as they saw my long hair. The pretext was that the hairdresser had a lot of people and she would only be free in the new year. The funny thing was that there were no people there at all (and we looked into it often, since our room was nearby). We went to the hairdresser across the street - Salon Fryzjerski Kosmetyczny D’ORA KOLASA DOROTA, they made an appointment for us the next day. There are a lot of clients in this hairdressing salon, especially regular ones. The hairdressers did not have time to serve everyone on time. I had to wait 20 minutes for my turn, but I was very pleased with the result. My hair was cut by Anya, a very nice and pleasant hairdresser. And most importantly, he cuts the hair very carefully and diligently.

Great cafe in Zakopane

During our 2-week stay in Zakopane, we couldn’t do without visiting a cafe. My favorite cafe is Samanta. Located in Krupówka, there are very tasty cakes and reasonable prices, a cozy place for a small group to relax.

On the second floor there is a women's clothing store called SinSay, which has a very cool selection at reasonable prices.

Supermarkets near our hotel

Already when we checked into the hotel, we realized how well we had chosen it. Nearby is the Nosal ski resort and a good selection of supermarkets. You can shop at Groshek, Delicatessen and Gama mini-markets. The walk to the Delicatessen market is about 7 minutes from the hotel, to Groshek about 10 minutes. Of course, if you go even further, on the way to the station, you can have a very good meal in Biedronka.

Where can I print documents in Zakopane?

If anyone, like us, needs to print documents, I can recommend an excellent place at good prices. This is Ksero Zakopane Usługi kserograficzne not far from the street. Krupówki. Printing: 1 sheet - 0.30 groschen, from 11-20 - 20 groschen per sheet. From 20 sheets at 15 groschen per sheet.

But a 7-minute walk, on Krupówka, not far from McDonald’s, there is also a point with a photocopier and printer – Roch. Usługi poligraficzne, ksero, pieczątki Typography, only the price they told us was 0.60 groschen per page, and when they said that we had not one page, but about 20, they offered us a “small discount” at a price of 0.40 groschen per page.

Unusual things to do in Zakopane in winter

We have been to Zakopane for the 7th time this year. I really love this town for its friendly, pleasant and warm atmosphere. It is in this city that the mood always rises. The 14 days we spent here seemed very eventful and enjoyable.

The Wax Museum

It is located in Krupówka. The cost of a normal ticket is 15 zlotys, a reduced ticket is 12 zlotys. There is a promotion: if you take a photo near the Avatar, post the photo on Facebook and add #KrupuwkiEXPO in the description, you can get a small 20% discount. We did everything right, showed a photo from Facebook at the checkout and they let us in for 20 zlotys together, that is, our discount was a little more than 33%.

As for the exhibition itself. I am surprised that there were so few people in this museum who wanted to look at this work of art. I don't particularly like museums, I find it boring there. But for a change I wanted to visit the wax museum. This is just a magical place, it has a very amazing atmosphere. When we went there, it seemed to me that these were real people. I kept waiting for some statue to move, everything looked so believable. But no one jumped out, thank God. It was very interesting to examine each figure in detail, and even more interesting was to read the short information about each sculpture. The museum has very interesting exhibits: politicians, even Harry Potter, Lady Gaga, Robert de Niro, Einstein, Picasso, Bruce Willis, Bon Jovi; and a lot of exhibits that are sculpted in honor of people who were included in the Guinness Book of Records: the fattest man in the world, the cassette man, the one-eyed man, the tallest man, the two-faced man, the man with a horn and many other interesting things.

The photo shows me and the Beatles.

Salvador Dali

Bruce Willis

Bon Jovi

I'm impressed how everything was thought out - every wrinkle, every detail, even the skin is like real.

Club Nosal

We settled right next to the Nosal ski resort. Already on the 10th of December there were many people wanting to ride on the track, especially children. They also teach snowboarding/skiing.

When the snow falls, that high, unfilled hill over there will also be completely filled with extreme sports fans.

Krupówka is one of the main attractions in Zakopane. This is the number 1 place that guides suggest visiting first. I always like to walk around Krupówka, at any time of the day and at any time of the year, but in December-January it is especially beautiful here. Very beautiful lighting and a very amazing atmosphere.

I couldn't resist Fashion Street 29 Krupówki. Whether in January of last year or now, it is very beautiful and very pleasant to walk here. There are shops where you can boil. True, I don’t know what the prices are there, but something tells me that they are not low.

Mount Gubałówka

We decided to get out into the mountains, breathe in the clean mountain air, but for unknown reasons the funicular was not working. We took a detour along the paths up the mountain. Of course, we climbed for about an hour, taking into account that we periodically set up transfer points.

This is the view of the mountains, and we are still halfway to the top.

We were already approaching the finish line; there were a lot of people who wanted to climb the mountains, both behind us and towards us. We even met a couple with a baby.

The climb was not easy, but it was still worth it. We trodden the entire ski slope of Mount Gubałówka, 1123m.

Try oscypek(smoked grilled cheese with cranberry jam)

In Krakow you can also find such a strange combination of smoked cheese and jam at first glance, but for some reason it is in Zakopane that, because of the amazing atmosphere, you want to enjoy this snack to your heart’s content. The price ranges from 2-3.50 zlotys. For 2 zlotys you can buy it at the closest point to the funicular.

You can buy oscypek for home, take it individually for 1-1.50 zloty. About in the middle of the market you can come across oscypek (cold, without jam, so you can buy it home) for 1 zloty. Personally, I really like this snack. Another option is oscypek with bacon and prunes (I never found it in Zakopane, but you can find it in Krakow, it’s also very tasty).

For colds, and just to keep my immune system in good shape, raspberry honey and cranberry jam help me. In January, I remember we bought raspberry honey, although it was very liquid and a liter of honey was enough for a couple of weeks. This time we decided to try cranberry jam. The cough subsided immediately, my throat cleared up immediately, and in the morning there was not the slightest sign of a cold. It's very tasty with tea. In general, in Zakopane (I saw it in supermarkets, I think they also have it on the market) you can also see various syrups and tinctures: syrup from oranges, lemons, roses, jam from rose petals (though I bought it even in Kharkov), birch syrup juice and more.

Visit Morskie Oko

It’s a very beautiful place, but it’s best to go here in spring and summer. Near the station, minibuses often take you to Morskie Oko. Ticket price is approximately 15 zlotys per person.

Ride a horse-drawn carriage

Go to a Hutsul picnic

This is a great option for those who want to diversify their leisure time. We have been planning to sign up here for a long time, but we won’t be able to get here this year, so most likely in 2016, then I will be able to describe my impressions in more detail. I know that this type of leisure is in demand in Zakopane.

Skate

Alternatively, go ice skating. Especially at this time, it’s very cool to diversify your leisure time with skates in the open air. The ice skating rink is located near the Sokol cinema (which I also recommend visiting), on Grunwaldzka street.

Take a walk around Kuznice

Visit the crooked house

This is a very interesting place to stay for tourists. We were here 3 years ago. The place is incredibly interesting. I absolutely love this house and highly recommend visiting it. You can see where it is

The small town of Zakopane in Poland is a famous resort and simply an incredibly beautiful place. Here you can ski, enjoy the beautiful scenery and have fun. The sights of Zakopane are no less interesting. These are exactly what we will talk about in our article.

Location

Zakopane is located at an altitude of 750-1100 meters above sea level. The town is located in a very narrow gorge and is located between the Gubalowka and Tatra mountains, almost near the border with Slovakia. Krakow is very close to it.

Zakopane is a very small town. Its population does not exceed thirty thousand. But at the same time, for the last hundred years Zakopane has been considered one of the centers of cultural life in Poland. It is in this town that artists and performers come to gain inspiration. Despite the modest size of the settlement, its infrastructure is very developed. There are banks, restaurants, cafes, shops, discos, a theater and a cinema here.

But Zakopane is best known as a ski resort. Moreover, it is considered the best in Poland. Moreover, his fame spread far beyond the country.

The main feature of the resort is the stunning clean air, saturated with the life-giving aromas of coniferous forests. Zakopane is recommended as a resort for the treatment of such terrible ailments as anemia, tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. In general, the city will appeal to absolutely all people, since there is a lot of entertainment here. In addition, the attractions of Zakopane will not leave anyone indifferent. Even if you're not a fan of skiing, you'll find something interesting to do in the city.

City museums

Zakopane is not only a ski resort, but also a very interesting place. If you are not a fan of extreme descents, then explore the sights of Zakopane.

The Tatra Museum will tell guests the customs of the local population. There you can see exhibits that tell about the culture, traditions and nature of these places. The museum's exposition also includes household items, which allows you to clearly imagine the life of the local population in the old days.

Also in Zakopane there is the Jan Kaspirovich Museum and the Cornelius Makuszynski Museum.

Village Chocholow

Of great interest to tourists, of course, are the sights of Zakopane and the surrounding area. Seventeen kilometers from the city is the village of Chochołów, which you can visit. Its population is 1,100 people. The village is located almost near the Slovak border. The village is unique. Almost all the buildings in it are original wooden houses, most of which were built in the nineteenth century. The entire village consists of one street. In the historical center of the village, houses along the road are located in such a way that they mirror each other.

During the season, the village is visited by a large number of tourists. Here you can buy unusual pottery products that are produced only here. There is an interesting house in the village, built from just one pine tree. It is called the “one tree house”. It is also worth seeing the Gothic stone church, which is completely different from all the other buildings in the village.

The village gained fame after the events of 1846. At this time there was an uprising against the tyranny of Austria-Hungary. It was led by local teacher John Andruskevich. There is even a museum in the village, the exhibition of which is dedicated to the Chochołów Uprising.

Temple of Our Lady of Fatima

Another attraction of Zakopane and the surrounding area is the Temple of Our Lady of Fatima. It is located in the village of Koscielisko. The temple was erected in 1992 as a sign of gratitude for saving Pope John Paul II during an assassination attempt in 1981. The Pope himself visited him several times, believing that Our Lady of Fatima saved his life.

The temple has an interesting history. It is named after Our Lady of Fatima, who appeared to people in 1917 in a small town in Portugal called Fatima. She then came to the three shepherds and told them three secrets about future events. It is said that two of her prophecies have already come true.

The temple has magnificent decoration, a rich altar and painted stained glass windows with paintings from the life of John Paul II.

Near the church you can see many religious sculptures, and from the temple grounds there are stunning views of the Tatras and Mount Giewont.

Krupowka Street

One of the attractions of Zakopane (Poland) is the pedestrian street Krupowki. There are similar promenades in all resort towns. However, the local street is colorful and unlike other streets in Poland. It runs through the center along the entire city and stretches to the foot of the famous Gubalowka mountain. Krupówki is always crowded. There are shops, restaurants and taverns here. Tourists are entertained by street musicians, mimes and clowns. Along the street there are stalls with traditional souvenirs.

While relaxing in Zakopane, you should definitely take a walk along the promenade and buy gifts. According to reviews from tourists, the street is really interesting, like any central street of any resort. Here you can sit in a cafe or just relax. Local residents praise Krupówki. In fact, she may not seem as beautiful as you expect.

Mount Gubałówka

The main attraction of Zakopane and the surrounding area in winter is Mount Gubalowka. It rises 300 meters above the city. The mountain offers stunning views of the surrounding area. You can climb to its top by cable car or mountain tram. Krupówki Street ends right at the foot of the mountain. From the observation deck on the top of the mountain you can admire not only the city, but also the beautiful Tatra Mountains. Here you can also walk along the paths and look at the natural beauty through optical instruments. There are several cafes and shops in Gubałówka. It's always colder on the mountain than in the town.

Mountain resort

The main attractions of Zakopane in winter are the mountain trails. The town is located as if in a bowl; in the immediate surroundings there are several bases, the slopes of which are always open to tourists. Zakopane has long acquired the status of a family resort. Favorable climatic conditions attract thousands of tourists every year. Mild snowy winters are the main feature of the resort. The ski slopes are ready for skiing in December. On some slopes, tourists continue to ski until April. The local trails are good for beginners, but they are also popular with professional athletes.

The city began to attract tourists as a ski resort back in the nineteenth century. Over the past hundred years, the town's infrastructure has changed and improved. And now tourists are greeted by a completely modern ski resort. The attractions of Zakopane may not be as outstanding and cannot be compared in importance with its mountain trails, but they are still interesting for tourists.

The best route and the most popular is Kasprowy Wierch. By the way, the mountain is the most crowded. There are many tourists there not only in winter, but also in summer. Indeed, in the warm season, walking routes are available. In about three hours you can walk to the very top. And on the ski lift the journey takes only half an hour. Nearby is Świńci, one of the highest in Poland.

Vitkevich Theater

Another attraction of Zakopane (Poland) is the local theater, which bears the name of the famous Witkiewicz. The theater is located on Chramtsówki Street. By the way, it is the only one in the city and is a source of pride.

Morskie Oko

In winter, the sights of Zakopane seem especially fabulous, thanks to the abundance of snow. One of those places that is interesting to tourists is a mountain lake with the beautiful name Morskoye Oko. Getting to it is not so easy. Local guides offer rides in a horse-drawn carriage or on horseback. The lake is located high in the mountains. They say that you can walk to it on an asphalt road in three hours. On its coast there is an equipped tourist parking lot where you can spend the night. There is also a cafe here.

Walks in the park

The good thing about the resort is that Zakopane's attractions and entertainment are designed for guests of all ages. Representatives of all ages can find something interesting in the city. The Tatra National Park is interesting for a family visit. It is especially interesting in the summer. There are numerous hiking routes throughout the reserve, some of which end in Slovakia. The Koscheliska Valley is very beautiful. It amazes with picturesque meadows and clean mountain streams. They say that even Pope John Paul II himself visited her.

Valley of the Caves

What is worth seeing in Zakopane is the Valley of Caves. The path to it lies along a good dirt road. The main attraction of the valley is the Frost Cave. It was discovered not so long ago, in 1934. It opened to visitors about 50 years ago. By the way, this cave is somewhat unique; it is the only one in the Tatras equipped with electric lighting. In summer, the temperature inside the cave does not rise above +6 degrees. The excursion route along it takes about half an hour. Some passages are so narrow that you literally have to squeeze through. In general, the route is simple and safe, so you can visit the cave with children.

Another similar place is located in the Koszczelin Valley. The cave is known as the Dragon Pit. This name was given in honor of the rock located at the entrance to the dungeon. Her form resembles a dragon with an open mouth. Moreover, the similarity is so obvious that no one believes that nature itself, and not people, made it this way. The route of the cave is not very easy. In some areas it is necessary to hold tightly to the fasteners in the walls, otherwise you can fall and break. Still, mountains are not park alleys.

City entertainment

As you can see, most of the interesting places are located outside of Zakopane. But in the town itself there is a lot of entertainment. On sunny summer days you can swim in the pool located on the territory of the Mercury Kasprovy Hotel. The city has a water park open all year round. There is no better place for a family holiday than the Rabkoland amusement park, built in the vicinity of the city. On its territory there are attractions for children of all ages and recreation areas.

In the central area of the city there are all the nightclubs (there are 18 of them), restaurants, and bars. During the peak holiday season, various entertainment programs are organized for vacationers. The central streets are always lively, here you can go shopping and look into souvenir shops.

Local cuisine. Restaurants, bars, taverns - for every taste. Their densest concentration is on the central pedestrian street Krupówka. The menu includes dishes of the Gural cuisine. The Guraly are a mountain people in Poland with their own Old Polish dialect. Gural cuisine is very tasty. I won’t list what we ordered at the restaurant in Krupówka. This is a finger-licking experience. Everything is delicious - soups, potato pancakes, meat dishes, sauces. Here, in winter, hot raspberry beer is served: a little liquid honey or raspberry syrup is poured into the bottom of the glass, then hot beer is topped up, and the resulting drink is drunk through a straw. Do you know what Gural tea is? This is our standard lemon tea with a little alcohol added. Finding a free table in a restaurant, but especially on the street, is not so easy. On the street, local orchestras play national Gural music, it’s warm - why rush, that’s why tourists sit in restaurants for a long time.

Associated with the Gurals is the town of Chochołów - a village preserved from the 19th century, with the same style of houses. A visit to it introduces you to the life of the indigenous Gurals. Chochlow near Zakopane. You can stay here to live. All the buildings there are of a characteristic architectural style - “mountain huts”.

On the pedestrian street Krupówke in Zakopane there is the Tatra Museum. Its exhibitions are dedicated to the culture and peculiarities of life of the peoples living in the foothills of the Tatras.

The Na Gubalovka station is adjacent to the pedestrian street. From here the funicular takes tourists to the top of the mountains. You can also walk to the top from here, many do so. The ascent along the mountain trails will take about one hour. The funicular offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, and at the top of the mountains, tourists can sunbathe on installed sun loungers, if we are talking about summer. Both in Zakopane and in Zakopane, it is easier to see the sights in summer; after all, there is not such an influx of tourists as in the winter season.

But what pure mountain air there is in Zakopane! This mild climate is suitable for people with respiratory problems.

There is a market in front of the entrance to the Gubalovka funicular station. There are many handicrafts here. We got to the market in the evening, it was dark. I remember sheep skins, wooden crafts, all kinds of souvenirs, leather slippers and a lot of national things that tourists love so much.

Cab drivers travel throughout Zakopane. You meet them all the time.

One of the proposed routes from cab drivers is a trip to the mountain lake “Morskie Oko”, located in the Tatra National Park, three dozen kilometers from Zakopane (We didn’t go there because we didn’t have time). The lake itself is simply very beautiful, with clean and clear water, surrounded by mountains. People go to the lake by car, park the car in a parking lot, and then a few kilometers further they are either lifted into the mountains by horse-drawn carts, or they walk themselves along winding roads.

The National Park in Tatars provides many opportunities to organize a holiday in Zakopane in the summer. Reviews of the park especially recommend it to those who love mountain walks.

Many tourists in Zakopane, Poland, escape the heat in the summer at the local water park. It is located in the train station area (the train station is located next to the bus station). Aqua park Zakopane is a very popular place, with slides of different lengths, jacuzzi, outdoor and indoor pools. And with a view of the mountains from the terrace where you can sunbathe.

Some guidebooks, among the attractions of Zakopane in the summer, offer a day excursion to Slovakia to the salt caves or to see the castles. I agree, there are plenty of beautiful views there, we saw them on the way from Bratislava, so we didn’t take advantage of this offer.

Zakopane on the map of Poland:

Zakopane is a small city in southern Poland. It is located one hundred and twenty kilometers and an hour and a half drive from Krakow. But these “one and a half hours” from Zakopane to Krakow became four hours for us. On this trip from Moscow to Chalkidiki and back by car, it was in Poland that I encountered massive road repairs. This is provided that the roads are narrow and they are not widened, but repaired. And motorists from Zakopane are stuck in terrible traffic jams. I hope it won't be for long. But the roads are very picturesque. Just recently, a fellow road traveler told me that “the roads of Poland just need to be accepted and put up with.”

The traffic jam was because of this bridge!

Better further...

That’s all, dear friends, our journey has come to an end, where I’ll go next time is still unknown! But of course I’ll tell you about this.

Yes, when we were going to Moscow, or rather we still had a stop in Lublin, (overnight) we saw a “hitch-stopper” on the road, with a sign in his hands, he was going to Croatia, On

Zakopane is a ski resort in southern Poland, 110 km from Krakow, near the border with Slovakia. The center of Zakopane stands at an altitude of 840 m above sea level. The town is beautiful, the nature there is wonderful, the air is fresh and clean, it smells of fir trees and herbs - what else do you need for people tired of offices and computers? That's right, Zakopane. The air here is considered super-healthy for those who suffer from respiratory diseases and allergies.

The resort has three riding areas: Kasprowy Wierch, Gubalowka and Nosal. The highest of them is Kasprowy Wierch (height - 1988 m). It stands on the slopes of the main Tatra ridge. The ski area Gubałówka is located on mountains 1120 meters high, and slalom competitions take place on the steep slope of Nosal (930-1135 meters). This resort can be called quite popular, and the slopes are difficult. By the way, back in 1907, the first alpine skiing competitions for the Polish championship were held here.

The skiing season starts in November and ends in early May.

In addition to skiing and sledding, Zakopane is attractive for its hiking trails, as well as picturesque wooden architecture. And Zakopane can be called quite a cultural city. Writers and artists have long flocked here for inspiration.

So, here's what you can see in Zakopane.

Observation deck

It is located at the foot of Mount Giewont (at an altitude of 1894 meters) above the Wielka Krokiew ski jump. This observation deck offers stunning views of Zakopane and the Gubałówki ridge. A lift will take you to the site.

Karol Szymanowski Museum at Villa Atma (Muzeum Karola Szymanowskiego w willi "Atma")

To begin with, Karol Szymanowski is a Polish composer and pianist who lived and worked at the beginning of the last century. And Villa Atma is the very place where he spent six years of his life. In the museum you can see the musician’s personal belongings, as well as things related to his work. The villa was built at the end of the 19th century, in the chalet style. The composer rented this villa, and it was here that he wrote several of his works. He rented it when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and had to leave his position as director at the Warsaw Conservatory. This villa was often visited by his friends, no less famous musicians and artists. In 1974, the villa was transferred to the National Museum of Krakow, which accepted it for reconstruction. The interior that can be seen in the villa remains the same as when the musician left the villa. Today this place hosts concerts and seminars.

Pedestrian street Krupowki

This street is one of the five most famous streets in Poland. What did you think! In principle, the street is not very long, only a kilometer, stretches towards Gubałówka. The street is extremely busy and interesting, where you can see street musicians, clowns, artists, and merchants. On the street there are a couple of the best hotels in the city, as well as restaurants and cafes. It must be assumed that people who come to the town on vacation all come out to this street in the evenings, so there are tons of people here. By the way, there is a ski lift to Mount Gubalowka nearby.

On the street you can buy and try a variety of national products, delicious bunz and oscilok cheeses, for example. Don't pass by the shops with woolen sweaters, blankets, leather slippers, wooden kitchen utensils and other souvenirs and useful things. For a change, you can ride along the street in a horse-drawn carriage. By the way, once a year sheep are driven along this street and driven into the mountains to pasture.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

Of course, you can’t count on the fact that Zakopane simply has an abundance of attractions.

Nevertheless, tourists have something to pay attention to when visiting this small but colorful town.

If you are traveling with your own car (or have rented one), then the first thing I would recommend looking at is Chocholow village. This small village with a population of just over 1,100 inhabitants is located just 17 kilometers from Zakopane, close to the Slovak border.

The village of Chochołów is unique in its own way. It is built almost entirely from original wooden houses. Most of them were built back in the 19th century. In fact, the entire village consists of one main street, only expanding slightly in places. In the historical center, wooden houses seem to mirror each other on both sides of the road.

During the season, the village of Chocholow is visited by many tourists from various countries. Tourists can purchase unique pottery products produced there. One of the houses, built from one large pine tree (it is also called the “one tree house”), is popular. It’s a pity that I learned about this later and therefore did not see this house.

A stone Gothic church stands out against the general background, strangely unlike the rest of the village buildings.

Although the village gained fame after the uprising in 1846 against the rule of Austria-Hungary, which was led by local teacher John Andrusikevich. Now those interested can visit the Museum of the Chochołów Uprising, which is open from 10:00 to 14:00 (Wednesday - Sunday). Although, to be honest, the museum is of interest only to those very interested in the Polish history of the struggle for independence.

Along the same road, but much closer to Zakopane (only 4 kilometers away), you can see and visit something significant for Poles Temple of Our Lady of Fatima. It is located in the small village of Koscielisko. Along the road next to the temple there are white-yellow (symbolizing the papacy) and white-blue (I don’t know what) flags.

The temple was erected in 1992 in gratitude for the fact that Pope John Paul II was saved from an assassination attempt on May 13, 1981. John Paul II himself believed that it was Our Lady of Fatima who saved his life. This is one of the most famous churches in the area and Pope John Paul II visited it several times.

There's an interesting story here. The church is called Fatima in honor of the appearance of the Mother of God, which occurred back in 1917 in the small town of Fatima in Portugal. Then she appeared to three shepherd children and told three secrets of future events. I did not find out on the Internet what secrets we are talking about, but it is reliably known that two of them are now already known and have come true.

It remains to add that the church has a magnificent interior decoration, beautiful stained glass windows with images from the life of John Paul II, and a stunning altar. And getting to a service is something when the priest begins to read a prayer, and the people pick up and everyone prays out loud with one voice.

There are many religious sculptures around the church. Also from the territory of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima there is a stunning view of Mount Giewont and the Tatras.

In Zakopane itself it is worth visiting pedestrian promenade street Krupówki. By and large, it is very similar to similar pedestrian streets in other cities (and not only Poland). Very colorful. The street runs through the center of Zakopane and stretches along the entire city to the foot of the Gubałówki Mountain. It's always crowded here. There are many shops, taverns (called taverns) and restaurants in Krupówki. You will be entertained by clowns, mimes, and musicians. And at one of the markets located along the street, you will definitely buy something. At least some Polish souvenir, tanned skin or traditional local sheep cheese. There are several exchange offices here (Kantor). In general, it is believed that it is simply unthinkable to visit Zakopane and not stroll through Krupówka and feel its pulse.

This is the lyrics. Everyone talks about Krupówka so beautifully that it’s simply breathtaking. But, frankly speaking, this street is actually described more vividly than it actually is. In reality, the locals just want your money and it seems that the hype around Krupówki is artificially organized: another place where numerous tourists should spend their money. After all, in fact, there are no serious attractions in Zakopane. So they come up with something to lure tourists...

But to climb Mount Gubałówka(altitude 300 meters above the city) is definitely worth it. You can “drive up” to the top by cable car or so-called mountain tram. In fact, Krupówki Street runs directly into the foot of the Gubałówki Mountain. From the top, from the observation deck, there is a stunning view of Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains.

There is an opportunity to walk a little along the paths and look at the gorgeous views using optical instruments tuned to mountain landscapes. There, on Gubałówka, there are several food outlets and trading stalls. But it's a little cooler at the top than at the bottom.

Among the attractions of Zakopane, several more museums and the Theater named after. Stanislav Vitkevich.

To be honest, I’m not sure that anyone would be interested in these objects. It seems to me that few tourists have heard anything about these people before visiting Zakopane. But there is no arguing about tastes. Therefore, I will describe it very briefly.

Theater named after Vitkevich, named after the famous Polish writer, is located on Chramcówki Street. The theater is the first professional in the city, has its own repertoire and a real stage. The theater's repertoire proclaims the cult of “pure form” (I assume that you don’t know what that means either), and it is based on the avant-garde direction in creativity.

Karol Szymanowski Museum at Villa Atma. Szymanowski spent six years of his life in this villa after he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The museum stores things and objects related to the life and work of the famous Polish composer. In the museum premises, the interior of the composer’s house during his lifetime was reconstructed from photographs.

It might be more interesting to visit Local History Museum of the Tatras. The museum exhibits exhibits related to the life, culture and traditions of the local population. Everything here is connected with the history of Zakopane. Separately presented are exhibits introducing local nature. In general, it’s also not for everyone.

There is more in Zakopane Jan Kasprowicz Museum, Museum of Cornelius Makushinsky, and Alpinarium (mountain botanical garden). If you have extra time and nothing to occupy yourself with, then you can visit.

The only thing that is convenient is that the prices for entrance tickets to museums are approximately the same and amount to approximately 3 zlotys (just under a dollar).

Regardless of what time of year you find yourself in Zakopane, you can always diversify your holiday. This resort is considered a winter resort. But, as in the Ukrainian Carpathians, in the summer you can relax here. Walking through the forest and mountain rivers, horseback riding, picking berries and mushrooms, as well as exciting fishing are just a small part of what we did as a family at the winter resort in the summer.

In order to see the city as a whole, it was decided to climb Mount Gubałówka. The decisive factor was that there was no need to leave the resort and climb on foot. You can reach the top by cable car, which is located behind the Zakopane market at the bottom of the main street of the city of Krupówki. The ascent to the top is carried out in glassed trailers that can accommodate up to 100 people. During the ascent, you can admire the mountain scenery for 4 minutes. This pleasure costs 8 zlotys one way or 14 zlotys both ways. In summer, the funicular operates from morning until 22:00. From the top platform there is a beautiful view of the city and the Tatra Mountains. You can have a snack in numerous cafes. Many tourists sunbathed right on the grass, although it was possible to rent sun loungers. A scenic walk leads to a cable car to the top Butorov Top. Those who wish can move on or return to the city by cable car or on foot, like we did.

In the city you can stroll along the central Krupowki street. There are many souvenir shops, national-style taverns and curved street lamps. Small wooden houses decorated with carvings and cozy coffee shops reflect the local flavor. Only once a year on this street you can see herds of sheep, which are driven to the mountains for summer pastures. While walking around the city center, we bought a cute toy marmot. This animal is a symbol of Zakopane.

We had the opportunity to become more familiar with local traditions and way of life in Tatra Museum. This museum is a local history museum. All exhibits relate to the history of Zakopane. Stuffed animals are displayed on one floor. Many of them are over a hundred years old. The children did not appreciate the trip.

For those who cannot take a walk through the Tatra National Park, there is an opportunity to get acquainted with the history of the reserve in Museum of Nature or with flora in Rock gardens(Mountain Botanical Garden). Both places are located on the main street of the city.

Curious visitors to the city, like my family, can look into Museum named after Stanislav Vitkevich, located on the oldest street of the city, Kościeliska, 18. It is a component of the Villa "Koliba". Five rooms of the museum have been completely restored. We admired the paintings and furniture. The city still has Church of the Holy Family, which was partially designed by Vitkevich. Its green roof is a city landmark. Inside the church there is a beautiful antique oven and carved benches.

I was pleasantly surprised that tickets to all museums in the city cost the same - 3 zlotys.

Travelers with children will have a great time at the local Aquapark. It is open all year round from 9:00 to 22:00. There is a place for family recreation on Jagiellonsky Street, 31. A full-day ticket for an adult costs 60 zlotys, a child ticket costs 40 zlotys, children under 3 years old swim for free. While in the outdoor pool you can admire the view of the Tatra Mountains. Like many water parks, there is a wild river, slides and a sauna. The children found this place interesting.

For a change, you can take a trip to Zakopane.
