The main hiking routes in Russia and the CIS countries Is a selection of the best routes for tourists who prefer to walk on foot through unknown places on our planet.

Hiking trails - who are they for?

Hiking is a very special kind of travel.

Hiking is a special kind of travel

Such trips require remarkable preparation, tremendous fortitude and will. An ordinary unprepared person, after the first kilometers traveled on foot, will think a dozen times whether or not to hike in the future. Previously, I myself walked along some routes, wound more than a dozen kilometers along them, saw a lot of beautiful places, received a huge number of positive emotions. On some trips I took my friends with me, on several routes, where the path is not the longest and most difficult, my friend and I took our classmates.

Hiking in Russia

 • Kola Peninsula

The climate of the peninsula ranges from subarctic maritime (north-west of the peninsula) to moderately cold (center, south-west and east of the peninsula). Most of this territory of Russia is located beyond the Arctic Circle and consists of terraces, mountains (over 800 meters above sea level), hollows, reservoirs (rich in a variety of fish) and plains of numerous lakes and swamps. The climatic conditions of the peninsula make it possible to enjoy the polar day (solstice) in summer and the aurora in winter.

 • Karelia

This region is called a "pioneer" in active recreation and tourism in Russia. The cleanest air, mixed forests, rich in flora and fauna, rivers and lakes attract tourists from all over the world. The climate varies throughout the territory from maritime to continental. The territory of Karelia - hilly plains, turning into hills, lake depressions, ramparts (up to 2 km high and up to 200 meters wide), kams.

 • Komi Republic and Arkhangelsk Region

The Arkhangelsk region is located along the coast of the Arctic seas, which makes the climate changing from subarctic to maritime, and to moderate continental. The insular part of the territory and some areas of the coast are assigned to the region of the Far North. The territory is a plain with hills on the coast, depressions and lakes in the continental part (Summer Mountains of the Onega Peninsula), creating a chain of mountain ranges, uplands in the south (Konosha-Nyandoma Upland), low mountains with peaks up to 450 meters in the east (Timan) and plateaus (ridge) in the west of the region (Windy Belt). The region has a huge number of rivers and lakes. Lacha, Kenozero, Kozhozero and Northern Dvina, Onega, Mezen and Pechoga are considered to be especially large lakes and rivers. The forest area of the region is presented in the form of mixed forests. It should be noted that such famous reserves as the Pinezhsky Reserve, Vodlozersky National Park and Kenozersky National Park are located here.

The Komi Republic is a continuous forest, as forests occupy almost 70% of its entire territory. The famous Pechora-Ilychsky Reserve (the territory is represented by forests that have never been exposed to man-made impacts from humans) and the Yugyd Va National Park are protected by UNESCO and included in the list of "Virgin Forests" of the Komi Republic. The climate is temperate continental. The relief is flat, passing in places into the mountains, washed by rivers.

 • Leningrad and Vologda regions

The Leningrad Region is located on the territory of the Russian Plain, with small hills up to 150 meters above sea level, and lowlands on the shores of Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland. The climate is Atlantic-continental. Nature - mixed forests, rare species of animals and plants, glacial lakes, rocks, caves and moraine ridges.

The Vologda region is called the land of "white-stone cities", located in the north-east of the East European Plain. The relief is hills, alternating with lowlands and highlands. The region is full of lakes, rivers and swamps.

Ural trails

The Ural is a chain of mountains stretching between the East European and West Siberian plains, dividing the continent into Europe and Asia. The climate is sharply continental in the mountains, turning into temperate on the plains. The Ural Mountains can be divided into regions:

 • Polar Urals (Konstantinov Kamen mountains and the upper reaches of the Khulga river),
 • Middle Ural (up to the Yurma mountains)
 • Southern Urals (from the Yurma mountains to the southern borders of Russia).

The relief of the Urals is plateaus, hills and plains.

Walking through the European territory of Russia

The territory of the European part of Russia is divided into federal districts:

 1. Central,
 2. Northwestern,
 3. Southern
 4. Privolzhsky.

Hiking tourism in Russia is certainly not limited to the routes listed below.

There are many routes in Russia for hikers

But the lion's share of them falls on the European part of Russia. A variety of natural conditions, great length, flat terrain and other indicators of commonality, allow to combine into a single hydrographic region. Natural conditions are due to the length of the area with a change in geographical landscapes from north to south. The northern part, passing through Kazan - Ufa, belongs to the forest zone. The southwestern part is mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, and the northeastern part is taiga. Also, the territory is dominated by forest-steppe, steppe, lakes and swamps. The relief is a hilly plain with small elevations over 200 meters above sea level. In the east, the plain is bordered by the Ural ridge, the central part is represented by the Middle Russian Upland, in the south, the Donetsk ridge with heights reaching 370 meters above sea level, in the southeast there is a vast depression adjacent to the Caspian Sea (Caspian lowland) and in the northern part are located basins of the upper Dnieper, Upper Volga and Kama. The climate is continental, but due to the length of the region, climatic conditions are different. Climatic differences are manifested in landscape changes from taiga in the north and mixed forests in the northwest to steppes and semi-deserts in the south and southeast.

Southern Siberia

This region of Russia is a mountain range that forms the watershed of the Irtysh, Yenisei and Ob rivers. Climatic conditions are a transition from a harsh continental winter to a short hot summer. The landscape of Southern Siberia can be divided into five relief belts:

 • Alpine high-mountain belt - the highest peaks of Altai, Stanovoy Upland, Tuva and the Barguzinsky ridge more than 2500 meters high with glaciers and snowfields
 • Mid-mountain belt - prevails over most of southern Siberia, the height of the ridges reaches 2000 meters, and in some places 2200 meters
 • Low-mountain belt - represented by ridges of hills passing into foothill plains. Transbaikalia is an example.
 • Plain - undulating plains on the ranges of Eastern Altai, Sayan and Northern Transbaikalia
 • Intermountain zone of hollows - steep slopes of ridges with glaciers

Khabarovsk region

Located in the eastern part of Russia, washed from the southeast by the Sea of Japan, separated from Sakhalin Island by the Tatar and Nevelsky straits, it includes several islands. Climatic conditions change from north to south (from continental to subtropics) depending on proximity to the sea and landscape. The landscape is mountain ranges (Sikhote-Alin, Pribrezhny and Dzhugdzhur) and plateaus up to 2500 m high. The Khabarovsk Territory is unique in that it is a “taiga country”. The light coniferous taiga covers almost the entire region from north to south, where it turns into the spruce-fir taiga.

The territory of the region is rich in rivers, lakes and waterfalls (over 100), which speaks of the diversity of flora and fauna, reserves, caves and archaeological sites. The insular part of the Khabarovsk Territory is light coniferous and dark coniferous taiga. The main inhabitants are birds that fly here to continue their offspring.

Exploring Primorye

The region is located in the southeastern part of Russia and is washed by the Sea of Japan. Its territory is represented by lowlands in the west, turning into mountains in the central and eastern parts of the region. Moderate and monsoon climate. The landmarks of the region are caves and waterfalls, reserves and parks (national and natural), rivers and lakes with the purest water. The landscape of the region is rocky peaks with snow caps, rocky slopes and wooded slopes, smoothly turning into plains, steppes and swamps. The forests are mostly mixed and coniferous-broadleaved with intertwining vines.

Sakhalin island

Sakhalin Island is the largest Russian island along the eastern coast of Asia, washed by the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan. The geographical position of the island makes the climate of the moderate monsoon turning into the sea. The island has a huge number of rivers and streams, lakes and waterfalls, mineral springs with curative mud, volcanoes, sites of primitive inhabitants, natural (Moneron Island) and archaeological (over 250), monuments (about 1000 objects of cultural and historical heritage) and geothermal springs. The saturation of flora and fauna is amazing.

Kurile Islands

The Sakhalin Region includes the Kuril Islands, consisting of a chain of small islands (over 30) with a length of 1200 km. The islands are dominated by a maritime climate with high humidity. The territory mainly consists of mountains (volcanoes), mineral springs, natural (Kurilskiy reserve) and archaeological sites. The length of the islands from north to south represents the diversity of nature. Due to the harsh climate on the northern islands, the flora is shrubs, and on the southern islands there are coniferous forests and broad-leaved species. One of the attractions of the southern islands is magnolia and bamboo.

Kamchatka

Kamchatka is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, which is famous for its volcanoes (more than 1000, of which 29 are active), geysers in, and on the islands - Karaginsky and Komandorsky. There are many rivers and lakes on the territory of the peninsula, which originate at the foot of mountains and glaciers. The peninsula is divided by two ridges: Sredinny (the longest) and Vostochny, between which is the Central Kamchatka lowland. On the coast of the peninsula, a maritime climate prevails, while the central and northern parts are continental. The flora of the peninsula is coniferous and sparse birch forests, cedar and alder dwarf trees, meadows and moss tundra. The fauna is diverse and amazing.

Magadan region, Chukotka

The Magadan Region is located along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk in northeastern Russia. The region is characterized by a subarctic climate turning into a maritime one. The region consists of mountains (in the North they are called Sopki) and plateaus, such as: the Verkhoyansk ridge, the Oymyakonskoe and Verkhnekolymskoe highlands, the Yanskoe, Yukagir and Elga plateaus. The forest area occupies most of the territory and consists of evergreen forests and relict poplar forests.

Chukotka is the harshest and most mysterious land in the entire territory of Russia. Most of the territory is located beyond the Arctic Circle. Chukotka is located on the entire Chukotka Peninsula and adjacent islands. The subarctic climate is replaced by the sea, on the coast and continental, in the interior. Permafrost covers all of Chukotka. Most of the peninsula is mountainous and arctic tundra with shrubs, lichens, grasses and mosses. Light coniferous and relict - poplar forests are rarely found. The peninsula consists of several natural zones (arctic desert, typical and southern tundra, forest tundra and deciduous taiga), which explains the great diversity of flora and fauna.

Such natural phenomena as the Northern Lights and winter, lasting 10 months, are not found anywhere else.

Caucasus (Western and Eastern part)

The Caucasus is a mountainous region of Eurasia, located between the Azov, Black and Caspian Seas.

You can watch a great video about hiking in the 4th category of difficulty in the Caucasus.

I always admired the guys who walk such routes. The landscape of the mountains depends on the height and distance from water bodies. Starting from swamps and glacier forests in the center and in the west and moving on to high-mountain semi-deserts, steppes and meadows in the south. Forest massif of mountains - fir and spruce forests. The mountain system of the Caucasus is divided into three regions:

 1. Western Caucasus (mid-mountain and high-mountain ridges covered with snowfields and glaciers). For example, Arkhyz and Sofia waterfalls),
 2. Central Caucasus (the highest peaks exceeding 5,000 meters above sea level. For example, Elbrus)
 3. Eastern Caucasus (mountains of low height, running from the mountain from Kazbek to the Absheron Peninsula).

Hiking - Crimea

The relief of the Crimea starts from the plains in the East, to the hills and mountain ranges in the South-West of the republic. Nature is rich in mixed forests, pine forests, steppes and forest-steppes. Most of the country has a temperate continental climate, turning into a Mediterranean climate on the southern coast of Crimea (Crimean peninsula).

The main tourist destination of that region is Crimea. Therefore, it is not surprising that

Tourists in Crimea could always find stunningly beautiful places

and has always been popular. Mountain Crimea is interesting for its historical and archaeological cultural monuments (cities and monasteries in caves, medieval fortresses), palaces, waterfalls, salt lakes (about 50) and landscapes. A distinctive feature of the Crimea is a smooth transition from mountains to flat steppes, the change of cool air to the sea breeze.

Kazakhstan and Central Asia

The relief of the territory of Kazakhstan is high mountains, lowlands, hills and plains with drainless basins. The climate is mostly sharply continental. The mountain system is represented by the ridges of the Mangystau mountains, deserts in the Balkhash-Alakol depression, the Saryarka upland.

We have really gorgeous places in Kazakhstan. Having walked many routes, I was convinced of this more than once. I invite everyone to come and see this with their own eyes.

Most of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) is occupied by semi-deserts and deserts, which indicates an arid climate. The mountain range of Central Asia includes: the Ustyurt plateau, the Turan lowland, the Turgai plateau, the Kazakh small hills, mountains: Kopetdag, Pamir-Alai, Tien Shan, Dzhungarskiy Alatau, Saur and Tarbagatai. The relief of the territory of Central Asia can be divided according to its member states:

 • KAZAKHSTAN: plains from the Volga to Altai and from Western Siberia to the oases and deserts of Central Asia;
 • KYRGYZIA: Tien Shan ranges with valleys and basins;
 • MONGOLIA: vast desert and semi-desert plains; in the west and southwest of the mountain; in the southeast, the Gobi Desert;
 • TAJIKISTAN: Pamir and Alay Mountains; Fergana Valley (western part) in the north, Kofarnikhon and Vakhsh valleys in the south-west;
 • TURKMENISTAN: hilly or flat sandy desert with dunes, turning into mountains along the border with Iran;
 • UZBEKISTAN: flat sandy deserts with dunes; wide and flat, valleys abundantly irrigated by the Amu Darya, Syrdarya and Zeravshan rivers; Fergana Valley (eastern part) surrounded by mountains of Kyrgyzstan.

Tien Shan

Tien Shan ("Heavenly Mountains") is a mountain range located in Central and Central Asia. The main part of the Tien Shan is located in Kyrgyzstan, the northern and western ridges in Kazakhstan, and the southwestern part of the Tien Shan in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Geographically, the Tien Shan mountains are divided into regions:

 • Northern (Kyrgyz ridge, Kungey-Alatau, Ketmen, Chu-Ili mountains, Trans-Ili Alatau and Issyk-Kul)
 • Western (ridges Chatkal, Sandalash, Pskemsky, Maidantalsky, Ugamsky, Fergana and Atoynoksky)
 • Eastern (Kuylyu, Akshiirak, Dzhetymbel, Naryn-Too, Borkoldy and At-Bashy ridges),
 • Central
 • Inland (valleys covered with moraine sediments, covered with grass, which creates conditions for pastures (syrts)).

The Tien Shan ridges are characterized by mountainous-glacial relief, which indicates a sharply continental climate. The flora and fauna of certain regions of the Tien Shan mountains differ significantly depending on the climatic and relief features.

Republic of Belarus

The republic is located in Eastern Europe, which indicates a temperate continental climate with mild winters and warm summers. The relief is flat, rolling in some areas in the uplands. Nature, rivers and forests that attracts tourists from all over the world. The routes pass through nature reserves and national parks with minimal impact on the surrounding nature.

The tourist's path goes along specially equipped trails. An example is such parks as "Narochansky", "" and Polessky reserve.

Carpathians - Ukraine

The Carpathians are a mountain range in Central Europe, passing through countries such as Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine (which is why I decided to insert a review of the Carpathians in this article), Poland, Serbia, Romania and part of the territory of Austria, the peaks of which are covered with glaciers. The total length of the chain is 1600 km. The relief is represented by turbulent rivers, forests and meadow valleys.

The entire mountain range can be divided into climatic zones replacing each other: High mountains (cold with high humidity), middle mountains (moderate cold), Carpathian (warm and moderately humid), Low mountains (high humidity) and Transcarpathia (warm and humid). Basically, the climate is temperate continental, warm in places due to the frequent presence of the Atlantic cyclone.

Well, it seems to me that it covered almost all the main hiking trails Russia and the CIS countries. Go explore, admire the great nature and beautiful views.

If anyone has something to add, I would also be grateful for the comments. And please share the article materials with your friends using the social media buttons.

This is a real hiking trip. We carry food, equipment and personal belongings in our backpacks. We spend the night in tents, we cook food on a fire or a gas burner. The recommended maximum backpack weight for men is 18 kg, for women 12 kg.

The price does not include:equipment rental, passes, fees for visiting museums, reserves, caves and other paid attractions along the way. In the amount of up to 3600 rubles per trip (except for rental).

The guide can change the route of the hike based on the weather, the state of the group, the prohibition of the passage by the foresters and other factors.

If the cost of the trip seems too expensive, choose yourself.

If you do not have your own tourist equipment, and there is nowhere to borrow it, then you can take it.

For those who have already gone with us, the hike will cost 8100 rubles. For children 8-14 years old, the cost is 7400.

Group meeting at the railway station Krasnodar 1 until 11 am. We will be back in Dagomys by 15:00 on the 8th day of the hike. On day 9, you can leave in the morning. To Sochi 30 minutes, to the airport in Adler 1.5 hours by train.

Additional important information:

1 day. Khadzhokh is a canyon of the Belaya River. Rufabgo Falls

Radial exit 8 km in both directions.

Groups usually meet in Krasnodar. It is there that trains from Moscow and Minsk and buses from Crimea arrive early in the morning through a ferry crossing. Those interested can independently, if it is more convenient, through Maikop to get to the village of Kamennomostsky, where the rest of the group will arrive in the afternoon. This is the Khadzhokh mountain resort, famous for its skilled stone cutters and sheep breeders. He is the starting point of our trip. After gathering the whole group, there is enough time to set up a camp and explore two local attractions. Amazing, Khadzhokhskaya gorge is a narrow, 400-meter canyon, along which, with enviable persistence, for the past millennium, the stormy waters of the Belaya River have been making their way in the rocks. The second, quieter, but no less picturesque, attraction is the seven-step cascade of waterfalls of the Rufabgo stream. Usually shallow, after rains it instantly turns into a stormy stream of water and everything that got into it, for which it received the local name - the Evil Wizard. To see everything, you will need a short, no more than 8 km, radial hike, light. Sightseeing is paid, 150 rubles each, but there is a free trail to the waterfalls.>

2nd day. Abadzesh pass - Lagonaki plateau

Start altitude 1780 m, parking altitude 2050 m, climb 270 m, mileage 9 km.

After the morning exercise and breakfast, there will be a car rally again, but now on real mountain roads with appropriate landscapes and emotions. Transfer to the Abadzesh pass. Finally a full hike begins. But we will not vomit, today we have acclimatization. A smooth 9 km ascent with a climb of only 270 m is just what you need. An altitude of more than 2000 m, we are already among alpine meadows with characteristic vegetation and karst formations, in some of them, at a depth of eternal snow. Along the Lagonaki plateau, we will come to a stream with the interesting name Rubleny, which is at the foot of Mount Oshten. After setting up the camp, those who wish have the opportunity to swim in the not very cold waterfalls of the stream and admire the mountain landscape. In good weather, the Krasnaya Polyana mountains, the site of the future 2014 Winter Olympic Games, are perfectly visible. Those who were not - can climb the nearest hill and inspect tomorrow's path, or spend their excess energy usefully and go to the forest for firewood. A bonfire is always nice.

3rd day. Mount Oshten (2804 m)

Radial hike, climb 754 m, 13.5 km in both directions.

In the morning, accelerated procedures, breakfast and, not difficult, but quick radial ascent to one of the three neighboring three-thousanders, Mount Oshten (2804m), are coming. Fast, because after lunch the clouds descend on the mountains, visibility decreases and the opportunity to come and not see anything increases. We will go light, without backpacks, but it is imperative to take raincoats and warm clothes. The weather can change almost instantly. A solid height meets the slopes with bare rocks and peaks with eternal snow. The solemn grandeur and silence leave lasting impressions for a lifetime.

4th day. Guzeripl and Armenian passes, Fisht shelter. Small Fisht Glacier.

The height of the parking lot is 1590 m, the drop is 470 m, the mileage is 10 km. Radial hike: climb 410 m, distance 8 km in both directions.

Today we will finally escape from the parking lot on the Rubenny stream. A gradual descent leads to the Guzeripl and then the Armenian passes. The trail traverses the slopes of the Lagonaki plateau, the vegetation here is very lush - often we will walk along a narrow corridor with two-meter walls of grass. The ten-kilometer trek ends at the Fisht shelter, an equipped parking lot on the banks of a large river. There is even a shower and a shop! True, the prices are cosmic. More precisely, by helicopter: there is no road here, all provisions are delivered to the store by helicopter, and garbage is taken away on it. Before the end of the day, those who wish still have time to run into an 8-kilometer radial to inspect the small glacier on Mount Fisht.

Day 5. Fisht Oshten pass. Lake Psenodakh, Maykop pass.

The height of the parking lot is 1560 m, the climb is 630 m, the drop is 660 m, the mileage is 12.5 km.

The acclimatization has been passed and the load can be increased. Ahead is a long and difficult ascent to the Fisht-Oshten pass (2220m). Then we will go down to the picturesque mountain lake Psenodakh. An unusually shallow, crescent-shaped lake with a depression at one end. Here you can swim great! The lake is surrounded by legendary brothers of three thousand meters: Fisht, Oshten and Psheho-Su. A unique view of the Big Fisht Glacier opens from here. Bypassing Fisht in a circle, we will finally enjoy the alpine meadows, and through the Maykop pass we will go down to the camp site.

6th day. Stream Vodopadny, waterfall 200 m. Lunnaya Polyana.

The height of the parking lot is 1873 m, the climb is 330 m, the drop is 350 m, the climb is 430 m, the mileage is 11 km.

Today we will continue to traverse the slopes of Fisht, the road will constantly go up and down. The Vodopadisty stream, encountered along the way, starts from the Fisht glaciers and falls down with a powerful waterfall from a 200-meter height. The spectacle is very grandiose! But you can not always see him. The main waterfall fills up only after a good shower or in the spring. But on the other hand, a small waterfall, flowing directly from the rock, of the same 200-meter height, always "works". Further, the trail runs close to V.V. Putin at Lunnaya Polyana. Now here all kinds are defiled not only by the buildings themselves, but also by the ski lifts under construction. Excavators, bulldozers, pipes, cables, noise, stench ... Finally, our mood will be spoiled by a guard running towards us with a menacing look and demands to immediately erase everything that has been photographed ... Of course, such an outrage in the State Caucasian Nature Reserve should not be in plain sight. It seems to me that the path past the dacha will soon be completely closed ... as usual, under the guise of concern for the tranquility of wild animals and plants. On this day, the last high night will take place, right at the Circassian Pass.

7 day. Descent to Solokh aul.

We begin to descend to the sea. The route passes through a shady beech forest, rivers will come across.

Day 8. Transfer to Dagomys, sea ...

We are moving to Dagomys by a custom minibus. The camp is set up in a convenient location on a wild beach.

Day 9. Home…

The most unhurried morning during the entire trip is accompanied by the gentle sea and the slight sadness of parting. Those wishing to prolong the bliss can stay here for a few more days. You can get to Sochi by train in half an hour, to Krasnodar in 4 hours.

Goodbye, Caucasus.

Canis from Latin, dog. Why did we name the route that way? Everything is very simple .

A long time ago, when there were still groups of planned routes, we met in the mountains of Crimea these wonderful creatures living there, omnipresent, roaming anywhere and knowing everything in the world, smart, mobile, mongrel mongrels who joined us, got acquainted and walked with us all the days of the hike. To end! We fed them, gave them nicknames, because they had no name or family, and they became full members of our team.

On the passages they ran ahead, looking back at us, sometimes disappearing into the unfamiliar, disappearing somewhere, suddenly appearing and twirling their tails from the excess of their dog's emotions. Tongue on one side, friendliness and happiness in movement.

Where were you?

One of such places in Crimea is the Arpat tract, which lives on the southern slopes of the Main Crimean ridge in the southeast of Crimea, where we will spend some time walking around the nearby mountains and waterfalls. At the end of the route, we have a classic of Crimea trails - climbing Mount Sokol (Senator, Kush-kaya, 473 meters above sea level) and visiting the Novy Svet tract. Sea. How without the sea. This is Crimea! It, the sea, is very beautiful when there is no one.))

Chatyr-Dag massif.

The trekking route "Peaks and Caves of Chatyr-Dag Mountain" is a three-day trip along a stone island with a height of 1000 before 1500 meters.

Many years ago, as a result of earthquakes, a small section of the Main ridge of the Crimean Mountains, namely the Chatyr-Dag massif, separated from the main mass of the main ridge and "drove" into the depth of the peninsula for 10 kilometers. Now this is one of 140 wonderful landscape monuments of Crimea!

The route of the hike is well thought out and therefore suitable for both beginners (dummies) and experienced (advanced) tourists who have already gone on mountain hikes more than once .

Crimea and Chatyr-Dag mountain range these are two inseparable concepts. This mountain is beautiful at any time of the year!

We will spend the night in a cozy mountain shelter, where there is everything you need for life, even a sauna and a fireplace room, so we only take personal equipment and food with us. We will make radial exits to the upper plateau of the mountain Chatyr-Dag, we will rise to its peaks Eklizi-Burun and Angar-Burun - magnificent observation points of the mountainous Crimea, we will see the equipped and unequipped karst caves of the lower plateau.

P.S. This route is interesting not only in winter, but also in summer! We look at the list of summer equipment.

Route 30 via Caucasus Fisht -Day 9:

Evening and night at sea will surely be remembered with pleasant sensations. Today our trek along route 30 in the Caucasus is over, it's time to leave and return home. Those interested can extend their vacation in the beach mode.

"I am often asked: why do you need all this?
I answer: then, that every step I take in the mountains Caucasus during the hike opens unprecedented horizons and stunning beauties ... Then, in order to feel victory when I climb to the top with my last strength ... Then, what are with me people who, in these "terrible conditions and hard physical exertion", find, like me , rest and the meaning of life ... "

Some of us have probably already taken a rest in the summer on the warm coasts and returned to our daily activities. The holiday season is over, but it's too early to wrap yourself in a warm blanket and drink hot chocolate on cloudy autumn evenings! Ahead is the velvet season, which is ideal for hiking: the most useful fruits and vegetables ripen in autumn, the heat subsides and the air becomes more invigorating and transparent.

Where are the best hiking trails in Russia? How to choose equipment and food? How to comfortably endure long transitions? Passion shares tips!

Trekking - tourism without limits

The concept of "tracking" (from the English track - trail, path) implies a walking trip, which does not require a special physical form. This is a very affordable form of active recreation: you can go on a trekking trip even with children! Participants of such trips spend no more than 3-5 hours a day walking, and the rest of the time they enjoy the fresh air, picturesque surroundings, swimming in rivers and lakes.

Hiking is a great way to restore peace of mind, find harmony with the world around you and see dazzling natural masterpieces.

How to eat right on a hike

So that hunger or improperly selected foods do not darken the experience of the hike, meals on a hiking trip should be properly planned, and not thrown into the backpack the first food that comes along. The number and volume of food will depend on how many days you spend on the road and in what area your route lies. Before buying food, many tourists fill out a "layout" in which they indicate the type of product, its amount in grams, energy value and an approximate menu for the day. "Layout" is compiled taking into account 5 important factors:

 • daily food intake is equal to the energy needs of the body (you need to consume and spend approximately the same number of calories, and if during the hike you want to lose a little weight, then get 10-20% less calories from food than you spend);
 • a balanced diet: 30% proteins, 30% fats, 40% carbohydrates;
 • saving space in a backpack;
 • long shelf life of products;
 • possibility / impossibility to get some food on the spot (mushrooms, berries, fruits).

The main source of fuel for our body is carbohydrates. In the long passage, they will be the ones you need first. It is better to choose foods high in complex carbohydrates, as the body will consume them for a long time and will allow you to stay full and full of energy for several hours. In addition, many carbohydrate foods are excellent road transport and do not spoil on the way. Foods with complex carbohydrates that are suitable for the hike:

 • whole grain crisps;
 • hard pasta;
 • vegetables.

Simple carbohydrates (such as dried fruit) are best consumed half an hour before the hike or for a small snack while walking, as they provide an instant burst of energy. If you don't use up simple carbohydrates right away, they will replenish your body fat.

Healthy fats, which are also necessary for our body, can be found in vegetable oils, nuts, hard cheese, and caviar.

In the morning, before you hit the road, you need to prepare your body so that long walking does not become stressful for it. To do this, it is necessary to thoroughly stretch the joints - hip, knee and ankle. Remember to pay attention to stretching your Achilles and hamstrings to relieve stress while walking and prevent injury. In addition, it is important to carefully stretch and stretch the spine, especially its cervical and lumbar regions. Pavel Fatykhov, international trainer, fitness expert at Herbalife

Stretching a little will help release tension from the muscles and allow them to relax. After walking for a long time, your muscles, tendons and fascia will warm up, so stretching will not only be safe, but also as effective as possible. Pavel Fatykhov, international trainer, fitness expert at Herbalife

Things to Consider When Preparing Your Trekking Equipment

The lighter the load behind your back, the more comfortable it is for you to walk along the hiking trails. Of course, it is important not to forget all the essentials, but every unnecessary kilogram will take away your strength, which in the end will not allow you to fully enjoy the hike. The maximum weight for a 7-14 day hike is 15 kg or less.

The basis of hiking equipment is a backpack. We advise you not to skimp on its quality, but to choose the most convenient and suitable one for you, and then it will serve for many years and will fully recoup its cost. When choosing a hiking backpack, consider several factors:

 • waterproof coating;
 • spine protection frame (built-in rather than removable);
 • hip belt for balanced load distribution;
 • many pockets and compartments - this will make it easier to get the things you need;
 • not narrow straps;
 • back ventilation system.

When choosing a sleeping bag, it is better to stop at high quality artificial fillers - Polargard, Qualophile, Hollophile. They keep heat well and do not get wet, which cannot be said about down.

For traveling along tourist trails, there are light and comfortable tents, which are called trekking tents. Such shelters are designed for spring, summer and autumn with average temperatures and rainfall. If you are planning a vacation in extreme weather conditions, it is better to choose a storm tent.

You will also need dry fuel and hunting matches, a high-quality knife, basic hygiene products, and a small first aid kit. And, of course, on a rare hike, you can do without a map and navigation aids!
