Salzburg is a small city, but of global importance. It is rightly called the “cultural stage of the world”, thanks to the huge number of theatrical events that take place here. The majestic beauty of Salzburg has been created over centuries. I invite you to stroll along its streets, look at the palaces and enjoy delicious desserts and liqueurs.

Duration

Possible with children

For centuries, the rulers of Salzburg, the prince-archbishops, wanted not only to make it one of the most beautiful and influential cities in Europe. They strived for more - to turn Salzburg into the “Rome of the North”! On the streets of modern Salzburg you will see everything that once so pleased the hearts of archbishops: luxurious palaces and magnificent squares, facades of city houses full of mysteries and mysterious passages, an abundance of baroque fountains and Roman mosaics.

Route

During the walking tour we will walk through the cozy streets and noble squares of Salzburg. Once upon a time they were centers of city life with markets, shops, and pharmacies. On Altermarkt Square we will see the tiniest house with a façade width of just over a meter. Let's go to the famous Cathedral, which seats up to 10 thousand people and is famous for its organ with four thousand pipes. And in the very heart of the old town, let's look at the house where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born 250 years ago.

On the most interesting street in Salzburg, Getreidegasse, unique shops and benches are hidden under ancient, intricate signs. In one of them, hereditary craftsmen make handmade umbrellas: sun, rain, silk, canvas. And in another, liqueurs and schnapps have been prepared according to family recipes for centuries. Especially popular is “Orange”, based on a recipe from 1929 “from my grandmother”. The “correct” Mozart-Original sweets in blue packaging can only be bought in Salzburg! Although, under the name Mozart they sell a lot of things in this city. Even perfume and liquor!

We will also visit the Mirabell Palace. Mirabell Palace and Gardens are the embodiment of romance and tragedy of the 17th century. The Prince-Archbishop once built this luxury with terraces and sculptures for his beloved. I will definitely tell you what happened to the lovers later and what makes Mirabell Palace famous today.

Walking through the streets of Salzburg, it’s nice to sit in a cozy cafe and drink a cup of coffee with the legendary dessert “Salzburg Knockerln”. As the famous Austrian operetta says, “sweet as love and tender as a kiss,” it is “served by angels in heaven.” Such is the atmosphere of the wonderful city of Salzburg!

Guide Julia. We always order individual excursions so that we can ask questions and find out what interests us, and not a “dry program”; Julia is not an “individual” guide, but still, probably a group. She was very irritated when they asked her about something, and then she couldn’t get her act together, and everyone on the street was disturbing her, and everyone was disturbing her indoors. In general, this is the impression

I walked around Salzburg with Julia, the walk turned out to be sunny and interesting. wandered through the streets of the old city, admired the ancient signs, took a photo of the house where Mozart lived, and stopped for a cup of coffee with the famous sweets. Thank you very much to Irena’s team and our guide Yulia for the time spent usefully! This is not the first time we have applied for an excursion and we are planning more)))))

January 19, 2019.
The tour of Salzburg was led by a wonderful guide Olga. Olechka spoke about the city so vividly and interestingly that the excursion flew by completely unnoticed. She simply made my husband and I fall in love with this amazing city. I highly recommend Olga.

We had a fascinating walk around Salzburg with guide Olga. Even our preschoolers were involved, as Olga paid great attention to them too. Almost three hours flew by unnoticed. Thanks a lot

We fell in love with Salzburg thanks to Olga. A very interesting story - informative and not boring. We received a lot of interesting information and saw a lot in a few hours. Now I want to return to this city again. Thank you, Olga!

Thanks to Andrey for an informative and interesting story!
The walk around the city, despite the rain and strong wind, went too quickly. Andrey is an interlocutor who not only knows the city and its history, but also loves it. And Andrei’s wonderful sense of humor made it possible to forget about the not-so-good weather)))

Olga is a very friendly and pleasant guide who has a good feel for her audience. She loves the city, is interested in the topic, and answers all questions. She has a good, competent, emotionally charged speech, and, despite the rich content, the excursion did not tire us and left us in high spirits. After the excursion, Olga showed us a place where we could have dinner, taking into account our wishes and helping us navigate the surroundings.

The tour was conducted by Andrey, I highly recommend it! Lively, interesting, with humor, “time travel” lived up to expectations, Austrian life became a little clearer after Andrey’s stories about history and modern realities. It’s good to see the beauty of the city, but to listen to the history of the city and its inhabitants is priceless! After the excursion, I want to return again to the music festival.

This is my first time traveling through Austria and I really wanted to get to Salzburg. Thank you very much for the delightful excursion conducted by guide Olga. It was with great pleasure that I plunged into the history of Salzburg, rich in historical figures and dates. My guide is highly professional. Thank you again. I will recommend this individual tour to my friends.
Natalia.

This was our first trip to Austria. If it weren’t for our guide Andrey, we would not have experienced and understood the whole way of life not only of Salzburg, but of the entire country. They only managed to remember such informative material, very skillfully and intelligibly presented. It should be noted that our group of travelers is already quite experienced in terms of individual excursions in different countries. Unfortunately, only a few guides can structure their story in such a way that it is immediately captivating, easy to remember, and not overloaded with dates, which, you see, are for textbooks and not for spending time on vacation. The story begins with the name Salzburg, the salt mines, the roads laid by the Roman legions and turned into modern autobahns. We learned about the quality of water and why it is served with coffee in all cafes. Understanding how trade developed clarified why residents are so leisurely in their work and relax in the evenings and weekends)). Education, art, music festivals are generally a separate topic for discussion beyond the scope of the excursion. Well, the five-organ concerts in the cathedral made me think about visiting this city again...
Overall, we were more than satisfied with the time we spent with our guide. Sincere thanks. We'll definitely be back!

We had two excursions with Andrey. A thoughtful route, an interesting story, a wonderful time spent. We learned a lot about the history and modern life of the residents. Andrey talks with humor and without boring lectures. The kids (10 and 15 years old) had a lot of fun too.
Thank you very much for such an amazing introduction to the city!

The most interesting, lively, romantic and educational excursion with a wonderful guide Olga flew by in a flash! We walked along the alleys of the park, accompanied by a beautiful poem telling about the romantic and sad story of the owners of the palace (we even cried), were imbued with the feelings that overwhelmed the heroes, took pictures on the beautiful streets, saw the smallest house, tried real = original Mozart sweets (Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln), learned interesting facts about national costumes, listened to the organ in the cathedral and saw the font in which Mozart was baptized, admired the beautiful views from the fortress to the surrounding area... and much, much more! To any question that arose for us - curious tourists with eyes running in all directions - Olga gave a comprehensive answer, told interesting facts, gently and delicately! There were 6 of us and we listened to everything with pleasure and were pleasantly impressed!
Thank you for a wonderful time in Salzburg! :)

Great way to get to know the city
The walk around the city, despite the bad weather, flew by in an instant. A very pleasant conversationalist who knows the city and its history, managed to make us fall in love with Salzburg in two hours
In addition, Andrey gave valuable advice for further exploration of the city. Thank you very much, I recommend it.

Returning to Prague from the Austrian Alps, we decided to stop in Salzburg! And this trip became the most vivid impression of our big New Year's trip, despite the constantly changing weather and limited time. All this became possible thanks to Andrey’s excellent support! An entertaining storyteller, practically a native of Salzburg))), with excellent knowledge of the subject and a good sense of humor, Andrey told us many wonderful stories and secrets of this magical city in two hours. Wonderful impressions will stay with us forever! My 13 year old son said that this was the best guide he had ever met))) Thank you very much!

Salzburg is a very popular tourist destination, which is why the excursion business is booming here. Travel companies offer inexpensive excursions both around Salzburg and the surrounding mountains, caves and lakes. Let's look at the main proposals.

  1. What tourists in Salzburg need to know first
  2. Hop-on-hop off – city sightseeing bus
  3. Offers from Panorama Tours
  4. Salzburg Sightseeing
  5. Personal experience

WHAT TOURISTS IN SALZBURG NEED TO KNOW FIRST

I won’t say anything new, but the program will depend on the number of days you stay in Salzburg. We devoted 4 days to Salzburg and the surrounding area, but to be honest, it didn’t seem enough to me. There really are many attractions, castles, museums, and nature reserves. If you plan to visit museums and fortresses (at a minimum, you need to climb the Hohensalzburg Fortress), then you simply need to purchase a Salzburg card, the price of which includes not only public transport, but also entrance to museums. For example, we bought it right at the station in the tourist center. There are options for the Zalzburg Card for 24 hours, 48 and 72. With the Zalzburg Card you will not need any city tours, you will not be tied to a group and you will see a lot of interesting things on your own.

If you don’t know English, then excursions will be difficult. In Russian, there is only a city excursion bus Hop-on-hop off, as well as individual excursions with a private guide. But in fact, when traveling around Salzburg, the most important thing is to get there, so even if you don’t understand the tour in English, at least stick to your group and just admire the places.

By the way, before your trip I recommend watching the film The Sound of Music (1965). This film is a cult film for Salzburg, as it was filmed here. It reflects literally all the sights of the city. For example, we were not aware of why there were so many “Sound of Music” tours in the city. And you will be able to go more prepared.

Remember one more thing - the main starting point of all excursions is Mirabelle Platz. There is the Church of St. Andrew and, of course, the Mirabell Palace and Park. This is what the Square looks like.

HOP ON HOP OFF - CITY TOUR BUS

In Salzburg, like in any self-respecting city, there is a Hop-on-hop off bus, that is, a standard bus with an open roof, where you can get off at every stop, and then jump back on and continue on. The route includes 12 stops and covers the main attractions. The buses are bright yellow.

It is very convenient that there is an audio guide in Russian on board. If you have little time for Salzburg, then city tours are very convenient - you will have time to see the whole city in one day. By the way, with a ticket for this bus you can also ride for free on public transport all day (a single trip costs 2 euros, so the offer is profitable). There is one more feature - the bus has an audio channel called Sounds of Music, where you can enjoy music from the film of the same name. Well, traditional discounts in some stores and on excursions.

Tickets can be purchased directly on the Bus or at a kiosk at Mirabell Platz. A day ticket for such a bus costs 16 euros, there is also an offer for 2 days.

During the high tourist season (from 23.03. to 12.01.) the bus runs every 30 minutes, the first one leaves at 9-15, open until 18-00.

In the off-season (01.03-22.03, 13.01-04.04), buses run every 45 minutes, the first buses leave at 10-00, until 16-30.

The easiest way is to take a sightseeing bus at Mirabell Square (opposite St. Andrew's Church), or near the railway station. If you're here for a day, jump straight off the train and get going.

EXCURSIONS FROM PANORAMA TOURS

When we went to Salzburg, we already knew about the existence of this excursion agency, because before the trip we talked on the Internet with a Russian-speaking guide and he recommended it to us. Excursions from Panorama Tour can be purchased, as I wrote above, on Mirabell Platz. In addition, you can also pay for the excursion at the tourist center (for example, at the Train Station). When ordering an excursion, you must specify that you want it in English, not German.

You can walk around Salzburg yourself, but I highly recommend it for short afternoon trips. Departure of half-day excursions is at 14-00. It’s especially nice that the groups are small. For example, on a trip to the Salzkammergut lakes (tour 2) there were 6 of us together with a guide. Almost individual excursion.

For out-of-town trips, consider tours 2 to 6.

EXCURSIONS FROM SALZBURG SIGHTSEEING

In addition to the Panorama company, excursions are conducted by the same company that owns City buses.

The list of excursions is approximately the same, prices are a couple of euros lower. We didn't use them, but I don't think the differences are serious.

The kiosk where you can buy excursions in Salzburg is located there, on Mirabell Platz, opposite the Church of St. Andrew.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

We spent 4 days in Salzburg. Even before the trip, we planned that we would walk around the city for a couple of days, and devote another two days to the alpine lakes located near Salzburg.

Initially, we decided that we would not take city tours. We went to the tourist information center, bought an excellent guide there (in Russian!) and took a map, as well as a Salzburg card for 3 days. In principle, the city doesn’t need anything else. The old town is not that big, you can easily get around it in one day; if you like museums, you should set aside at least two days. Outlying areas of the city, such as Hellbrunn Palace or the Unterbergbahn cable car, can be easily reached by public transport.

We wanted to travel around the outskirts of Salzburg, in particular to go to the magnificent lakes of the Salzkammergut region, on our own. But the weather got in the way. Since the weather in October is somewhat changeable, there was a gloomy sky almost every day, and there were clearings only in the afternoon. This is where Panorama excursions helped us. We went on two excursions with them: tour 2 “Lakes and Mountains” and tour 3 “Bavarian Alps”. Overall, I liked it. But if you are lucky with the weather conditions, I recommend going to the lakes on your own, and perhaps staying overnight in one of the charming towns.

In general, we are sure that no matter which way you choose to explore Salzburg and the surrounding area, you will be enchanted by this beautiful city and region.

Finding cheap air tickets to Austria

Salzburg is a universally recognized miracle of European culture. Tourists from all over the world flock here as if on a pilgrimage. To avoid getting lost in the bustling crowds and missing out on the city's authentic atmosphere, explore it in a small group with a local guide. Excursions in Salzburg in Russian are quite diverse even for the most demanding traveler. And to begin with, of course, any of the tireless “pilgrims” in Salzburg strives to join the classics.

A classic for the old part of Salzburg - a lifestyle, a state of mind, almost a brand. It is in everything: in the impeccable elegance of houses, the ancient splendor of gardens and palaces, the unforgettable taste of sweets and coffee in the establishments of the historical center. The history of settlements on the site of Salzburg begins with the Stone Age, and almost all eras have left their mark on it. The appearance of monasteries in the early Middle Ages determined the city's status as an archbishop's residence, then a fortress and palaces were built. However, the true face of Salzburg, recognizable from a thousand, is its architecture of the 17th-18th centuries, lush baroque, atmosphere of luxury and bohemia.

The leitmotif of Salzburg is Mozart. His name here serves as a passport to the world not only for the famous chocolate with marzipan, but also for many other products, events, and attractions. Here you need to separate the wheat from the chaff: a local guide will help you enter the world of Mozart, leaving the accompanying tinsel aside.

But what to see in Salzburg, besides the beauty of antiquity? This city is by no means a museum; in many ways it was and remains a successful and far-sighted businessman. An excursion to Hangar-7, a masterpiece of modern architecture, a space of new technologies and conceptual solutions, will help you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of modern Salzburg. The thriving business here is also part of the history of Salzburg.

Even with proper planning, it is impossible to cover all the attractions that made Salzburg famous in one day. But isn't this a reason to come back here - or stay longer?

An amazing city in Austria with a rich history and diverse architecture - Salzburg - amazes not only with its baroque architecture, but also with its natural landscapes. Salzburg is included in the UNESCO treasury of world cultural heritage, which it rightfully deserves. Salzburg is a small city in Austria, the fourth largest after Vienna, which is located at the foot of the Alps at an altitude of 425 meters above sea level.

Salzburg, along with cities such as Paris, Riga, Budapest, is the most beautiful city in Europe. In this city, where Mozart was once born and the brilliant conductor Herbert von Carojan lived, in our time Salzburg hosts “Mozart Week” and opera festivals. While traveling around Salzburg, take the time to visit the Mozart Museum, a house in which the typical furnishings and atmosphere of those times are recreated as much as possible.

To get around Salzburg with excursions you will need only a few hours. But don’t be discouraged; in Salzburg, even in such a seemingly short time, there is something to see. There are a lot of attractions in Salzburg. The most luxurious architectural ensemble of Salzburg is the Mirabell Palace and Garden, which was built in the 16th century. After visiting the palace, you will see a large fountain, statues of Greek and Roman gods, an aviary, and a gnome garden.

Also, when making excursions around Salzburg, you should not ignore one of its symbols - the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Over the course of many centuries, this fortress was rebuilt and expanded, and only in the 16th century was it completed.

Being, like the Mirabell Palace, a prominent representative of the Baroque era, the Cathedral is known throughout the world thanks to its unique organ. It is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and is decorated with magnificent frescoes inside. While vacationing in Salzburg, you will certainly be amazed by the huge number of monasteries located on its territory.

Salzburg attracts tourists not only in summer, but also in winter. In summer, the lake district located in the north is popular, and in winter, the Alps attract ski lovers. All ski resorts are equipped with modern ski lifts and provided with all the necessary infrastructure - hotels, cafes.

In addition to all of the above, while on vacation in Salzburg, it is worth going to the south and seeing the attractions located there - Leopoldskron Castle, Hellbrun Castle located in the park of the same name. In the park there is a mechanical puppet theater, and in the commune of Anif there is an ancient city church and the Salzburg Zoo.

The best option for getting to Salzburg is to buy a passenger train ticket from Vienna. During this trip you will have the additional opportunity to admire amazing views from the window. You can also go to Salzburg with excursions from other European cities - Prague, Munich, Zurich and many others.

You can purchase excursion tours to Salzburg on our company’s website. We offer cheap excursions around Salzburg that will not leave any traveler indifferent. Here everyone will find something to their liking: art lovers will find plenty of museums and ancient architecture, lovers of outdoor activities can spend time in the snowy Alps or on the shores of lakes, and lovers of a relaxing holiday can stroll around the city, stopping at numerous cafes and breweries.

Of course, in a world where wars happened so often, there are many fortresses! But how many of them can you count under the proud heading “Unconquered”! Excursion " "NOESCHWANSTEIN" - Swan Castle of King Ludwig II of Bavaria"

Do you remember which fairy-tale castle became a symbol of the wonderful world of Walt Disney? They say that when the emblem of the film studio and Disneyland was being conceived, someone remembered that there was Neuschwanstein Castle in the world. This castle truly became the embodiment of a fairy tale. The castle is amazing both outside and inside. King Ludwig of Bavaria was obsessed with realizing his fairy-tale fantasies about German knights and the Holy Grail. Tchaikovsky was fascinated by the sight of Neuschwanstein - and it was here, as some historians believe, that he conceived the idea for the ballet Swan Lake. Linderhof Castle is the summer residence of the King of Bavaria with a magnificent park, luxurious decoration, a throne room and a fabulous man-made grotto with an underground lake. Fairy-tale scenes from the operas of the great Wagner were played out here.
