Dubai is an amazing place in the middle of the desert, where the achievements of scientific and technological progress of the 21st century are intertwined with the most ancient culture. Artificial islands have become one of the most ambitious projects in the emirate.

The Palm Islands are an archipelago of artificial islands, man-made on Earth. Artificial archipelagos "Mir" and "Universe" of small islands are also located between the islands. All this creation can be seen from the moon with the naked eye.

Let's start with the palm islands. They are located in the UAE, in the emirate of Dubai. The archipelago includes three large islands, each shaped like a palm tree.

Palm Jumeirah is the smallest and most original of the three islands. This is the first palm island and a great achievement in the history of world architecture. The construction of the island began in June 2001, and in 2006 it was commissioned for development.

It consists of a trunk, 16 leaves, and a crescent moon that surrounds the island, which forms an 11-kilometer breakwater. Diameter - 6 km. The Crescent is a barrier that surrounds and protects the Palm from the waves of the sea. Hotels are located on it.

For example, here is the Atlantis Hotel - one of the most interesting, popular and controversial hotels in the Emirates.

Work in progress:

Almost like a mirage:

Night view of the Atlantis hotel:

The "crown" of the Palma consists of 17 "branches" -microdistricts rushing into the sea. On the branches there are exclusive villas differing in size and design:

The residential areas include about 8,000 two-story mansions. 2007 year:

The Trunk is the central part of Palma, home to parks, shopping centers, restaurants and multi-storey residential buildings.

Construction of the central part -
The size of the island is 5 kilometers by 5 kilometers and its total area is more than 800 football fields. The island is connected to the mainland by a 300-meter bridge, and the crescent moon is connected to the top of the palm tree by an underwater tunnel. The Palm Jameirah is worth approximately $ 14 billion.

Construction started in October 2002:

This is how the island should have looked according to the project:

The artificial artificial island was commissioned for construction at the end of 2007. It is 50% larger than Jumeirah. More than 1,000 bungalows are planned to be built along the coastal line, resting on Polynesian-style piles:

But not everything is so rosy here: currently, due to low demand for real estate, most of the construction work on Palm Jebel Ali is temporarily suspended.

It is the largest artificial island of the three. Its construction began in November 2004.

A few numbers. Deira will be 8 times the size of the Palm Jumeirah and 5 times the size of the Palm Jebel Ali. The distance from the coast to the top of the "crescent" is 14 km, the width of Palma is 8.5 km. The branches of the Palm will have different lengths and will be at a distance of 400-850 from each other. The crescent with a total length of 21 kilometers will be the largest breakwater in the world.

It is interesting to watch the process of building an artificial island:

Palm Deira will be poured at a depth of 5 to 22 meters.

The creation of the "trunk", 41 branches and a protective crescent will take a billion cubic meters of stones and sand. The length of the branches varies, the distance between them will be from 840 to 3,340 meters.

Upon completion of construction, Palma Deira will become the largest anthropogenic island in the history of mankind, which will serve as a habitat for 1 million people. The work is planned to be fully completed by 2015, although this date is not final.

A few photos of what Palma Deira will look like:

As you can see on the map, between the Palms there are also artificial archipelagos "Mir" and "Universe" of small islands.

This is an artificial archipelago, consisting of several islands, in general shape resembling the continents of the Earth (hence the name - "Mir"). It is located 4 kilometers from the Dubai coastline.

The artificial islands in the Mir archipelago are created mainly from the sand of the shallow coastal waters of Dubai. It was difficult to find a place for this project, because the coastline was already occupied by the Palm Islands. Then it was decided to build islands 4 km from the coast.

Construction of artificial islands. Sand was dug from the bottom of the Persian Gulf and sprayed over a construction site to create islands:

The total area of the Mir archipelago is 55 sq. Km. That makes him the largest artificial archipelago in the world... The size of the islands is from 14 thousand to 83 thousand square meters, the width of the straits between them is from 50 to 100 meters with a depth of up to 16 meters.

"Mir" is connected to the mainland only by water and air communication. An artificially erected breakwater protects the island from large waves:

In April 2004, the first island, named "Dubai", is shown from the water. Unlike the Palm Islands, the Mir archipelago is not connected to the continent and there are no bridges. All building materials were delivered by sea.

Breaking up the breakwater:

By May 2005, 15 million tons of stone had been dumped into the bay.

In the future, the archipelago is planned to be enlarged by the creation of new islands according to the "Universe" project (see the map above).

Will it wash away artificial islands? The Mir archipelago, despite the fact that it is completely surrounded by water, is designed very reliably - artificial islands can disappear under water no earlier than in 900-4,000 years, according to Arabian Business.

On the islands of the Mir archipelago, the most luxurious houses on the planet will be located. Not everyone can buy the island: the developer company Nakheel itself sends out invitations (50 pieces a year) to the wealthy elite.

The price of one island reaches $ 38 million and varies depending on location, size, and proximity to other islands.

All 300 islands will be accessed by sea or air, scheduled ferries, and private yachts and boats.

Russian moneybags have already bought up all of "Russia" - one of the largest archipelagos in the world. The representative of the developer Hamza Mustafal says that one Russian developer bought two "Russian" islands at once - "Rostov" and "Yekaterinburg". The island "Siberia" was bought by an unnamed Russian woman who is going to sell it in parts.

According to the plans of the creators, the Mir archipelago will become an elite community, which will consist of selected inhabitants of the Earth, service personnel and tourists, the total number of which will not exceed 200,000 people.

The newest landmark of the 21st century, which must be visited, having arrived in Palm Jumeirah, has already won the title of a modern technological wonder of the world. We will talk about it in detail in our article. This small one is especially popular with the moneybags of this world. And not only because of the rest on the man-made island. After all, the archipelago is built up with unique hotels and chic restaurants. But that's not all. No wonder that they take excursions here. It is a true symbol of sophisticated glamor and truly Arabian luxury. And although not everyone can afford to live in rooms that cost several thousand dollars a night, it is possible to touch the world of wealth. The artificial archipelago looks especially impressive from the air. It is from the helicopter that you can see a stylized drawing of a date palm bathing in the azure waters.

Feasibility of artificial islands

Jumeirah is the coastal area of Dubai. There are not many historical sites in it. A mosque and a promenade - that's all that could be seen in Jumeirah before the beginning of our century. Therefore, many tourists chose the Bar-Dubai area for recreation. But now the situation has changed radically. Man-made archipelagos have become the hallmark of the UAE. Palm Jumeirah is the most original of them, although the smallest in area. Two other archipelagos, Deira and Jebel Ali, are also made in the form. Besides them, there is also a group of artificial islands called Mir. The Universe Archipelago is being built next to it. The construction of the islands was very expensive for the municipality of the city. But the huge investment paid off with interest. Thanks to them, the coastline of Dubai has increased by as much as 520 kilometers. And she attracted new tourists to the United Arab Emirates who want to see this wonder of the world with their own eyes.

A brief history of construction

The artificial island began to be poured back in June 2001. After five and a half years, the archipelago began to gradually surrender to development. Nakheel, who manages the work, has the right to be proud of her brainchild. The Palm Jumeirah is a tremendous achievement of modern technology and the embodiment of the most daring architectural designs. This "palm" is located opposite the Internet City in the Jumeirah region, from which it got its name. It takes about half an hour to get to it from the international airport in Dubai. The archipelago consists of a "trunk" and a "crown" of seventeen palm leaves diverging in both directions. This shape has made it possible to increase the length of the beaches on the archipelago up to 78 kilometers. In addition to the "trunk" and "crown", Palm Jumeirah also has a crescent moon. This eleven kilometers long island acts as a breakwater and protects the main sandy archipelago from erosion. The three-hundred-meter bridge connects the "trunk" of the Palm Jumeirah with the mainland. An underwater tunnel leads to the crescent moon from the top of the “tree”. And in addition, it must be said that the man-made islands of Dubai can be seen from space!

Construction difficulties

The project of reclaiming the man-made archipelago was a real challenge for man to the forces of nature. Continental sand, of which there is so much in the United Arab Emirates, was not good. It did not have the required viscosity. Therefore, special dredges scooped sea sand from the bottom of the bay, laid it in the form of a palm tree, and later vibrators tamped it down to the state of solid ground. To prevent destructive storms from destroying and washing away the embankments, Palm Jumeirah acquired a crescent moon. It was laid out in large boulders from the Hajar Mountains. Moreover, the position of each plate was adjusted using a computer.

What is Palm Jumeirah

This man-made structure claims to be the eighth wonder of the world. At the time of commissioning, it was the world's largest man-made archipelago. And although it was surpassed in size by Jebel Ali and Deira, Palm Jumeirah (Dubai) continues to be the most original island. The "trunk of the tree" is built up with multi-storey buildings and shopping centers. Moreover, the materials used were not glass and concrete, as one might assume, but stone. The current sheikh of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ordered that all buildings on the archipelago fit naturally into the landscape. They are surrounded by green parks. Thus, the "palm trees" became a miracle. The seventeen branches and the crescent of The Palm Jumeirah should soon house thirty-two luxury hotels and fourteen hundred villas.

How the Dubai authorities lure tourists to the "palm trees"

It is clear that, having built expensive hotels and luxury villas, the municipality is unlikely to soon recover the money invested in the megaproject. It was necessary to attract as many people as possible to the artificial archipelagos. Huge beaches stretching far out to sea are the first attraction. The clear waters of the warm Persian Gulf are attractive for diving enthusiasts. Especially for divers, the authorities drowned several pieces of old aircraft near Palm Jumeirah, and also created artificial reefs, which after a few years were covered with completely natural corals. But the main highlight of this archipelago should be the underwater oceanarium "Atlantix".

Jebel Ali

This artificial island is a Polynesian paradise. More than a thousand bungalows and about 2,000 exotic-style villas will be built here. City officials predict Palm Jebel Ali's population will be 1.7 million by 2020! Particular emphasis on this archipelago is placed on the recreation of children. Four amusement parks will appear on the protective crescent breakwater. A water park is also being built here, where visitors will be able to see killer whales, dolphins and other amazing. Quotes from the poems of the Mayor of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, are carved in stone along the breakwater of this archipelago. Well, Palma Deira will be the largest of the three "trees". The authorities promise to build on it a lot of amazing and exciting imagination.

How to get there

You can get to Palm Jumeirah by city metro. The station is located on the coast, and to quickly find yourself in the futuristic "city of the future", you can change to a taxi. On the island itself, public transport is represented by a monorail. In the future, the authorities promise to integrate it with the main branches of the Dubai subway. In addition, it is planned to launch ultra-modern airships here, from the side of which it will be possible to contemplate all this beautiful fairy tale from a bird's eye view. An underwater automobile tunnel leads to the "crescent" of the Palm Jumeirah. All the beaches of the luxury hotels located here are located on the inner side of the island. So even the most powerful storm in the Persian Gulf will not interfere with comfortable swimming. At the moment, 1400 villas with individual access to the sea have been built on the "crown" of this amazing island, as well as more than two and a half thousand apartments in spectacular penthouses. And on the "trunk" there are yacht clubs, office premises, parks, shopping centers and hotels.

Hotels on the Palm Jumeirah

Atlantis The Palm was the first to receive guests. It happened on November 20, 2008. After this significant event, the world learned about the existence of the first artificial archipelago in Dubai. The opening of the five-star hotel was accompanied by a grandiose fireworks display. One hundred thousand pyrotechnic installations were involved. For ten minutes, they shot fountains of colored lights into the air. This light parade became the largest fireworks display in history. It was visible not only from anywhere in Dubai, but even from space! Then, one after another, other hotels began to open, primarily chain ones: Kempinski, Rixos, Palm Jumeirah Zabel Saray, One and Only The Palm and others. But there is still room for new construction - especially in the middle of the trunk. Recently the turnkey Okeana ze Palm Jumeirah 5 *, consisting of a unique residential complex and a club apart-hotel, was commissioned.

What to see on the Palm Jumeirah

Experienced tourists recommend taking a ride on the high monorail road. It starts at the "roots", not far from the bridge, and ends at the Atlantis The Palm 5 * hotel. Leaving the carriage, feel free to follow to this hotel. The entertainment is just beginning! This chic hotel houses the Aquaventure water park and The Dolphin Bay. Then you can combine the interesting with the pleasant: get through the tunnel to the "crescent" and relax on the sandy beaches. The palm tree is popular with diving enthusiasts, as there are coral reefs and various interesting sunken objects around its shores.

How does construction work on water?

Singapore, China and even Holland have made great strides in seizing part of the reservoirs for construction. But surpassing Dubai in this regard is quite difficult. The spectacular, fully artificial Palm Jumeirah archipelago - home to fabulously wealthy people - is built on 110 million cubic meters of sand dredged from the sea.

Palm Jumeirah was conceived as an idea of additional enrichment for the UAE. Jumeirah Island in Dubai, built in the form of a palm tree, gained fame as a superstructure, the appearance of which in the Persian Gulf is considered a miracle. The possibility of its creation was questioned even by the engineers who worked on this project. But, despite this, everything possible was done to make it a monument of luxury life for the whole world. The construction of Palm Island began after the first conquest of nature by man in Dubai - the construction of the Burj Al Arab dream hotel, which is a tower on an artificial island located 300 meters from the coast.

The fact is that there was a certain problem for mass tourism, since the coastline suitable for recreation was only 72 km. Sheikh Mohammed decided to build an island off the coast, designed to multiply the natural coastline of the coast. Thus, the idea was born to create an island in the form of a palm tree as a symbol of the paradise of the world. In addition, a big plus of this shape was the increase in the coastline by as much as 56 km in comparison with the traditional round island.

Epic construction began in 2001 with completion planned for 2006.

During this period, an island was to be built in the sea, where luxury hotels, villas and shopping centers would be built. Such a task seemed very daring, but not for Sheikh Mohammed. He was not stingy at all and invested a lot of money in the work of the best consultants from around the world, as well as paying for the ever-increasing needs of construction. Mohammed's idea was to build the island from natural materials, using sand and stones, rather than reinforced concrete structures. Such requirements have created additional difficulties for builders. Every day they had to fight natural forces, as the water ruthlessly washed away the stones and sand that were poured to build the island. Extensive research has been done on the effects of tides, wandering waves, storms, and even global warming. Fears for the creators of such a project were also caused by the so-called Shamal storm, which arises in these places.

It is interesting that the rock and sand for the construction of the island could be enough to build a wall 2.5 meters high, which would encircle the globe.

Dutch engineers were involved in the construction of all the necessary structures, since Holland had already managed to recapture 35% of its territory from the sea. Construction work went well until the towers of the World Trade Center in the United States were attacked by terrorists. As a result, the flow of tourists to the Middle East abruptly stopped. Beaches, hotels and restaurants were emptied, but no one began to suspend work on the creation of the Palm Jumeirah. Moreover, the project specialists were determined to leave at any moment.

To protect itself from the devastating effects of the waves, Palm Island had to be protected by breakwaters. For their construction, tons of sand and stones were poured on the bottom of the Persian Gulf, including huge blocks weighing about 6 tons extracted from 16 quarries throughout the UAE. They are held only by their mass and are not fastened with either iron or concrete. Every meter of the breakwater is carefully checked by divers to prevent the destruction of this protection. This powerful barrier against waves of length 11.5 kilometers rises on 3 meters in height. During its construction, the builders faced the Shamal storm, which raged for 3 weeks in 2002. They had no choice but to see if the unfinished breakwater could withstand the load. This simple one led to a creative decision - to continue to build separately the breakwater and the island-palm tree itself. This work was quite difficult, since without a ready-made breakwater, the island was defenseless against the destructive effects of the sea.

Construction site on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Construction was further complicated by the fact that it was important to observe the given outlines of the island, which was not so easy, because the branches of the palm tree were bent into a complex shape and it was very easy to get off. But Dubai's access to the world's only private artificial satellite, which constantly took pictures during the work, so that the drawing of the island and the outlines of the palm tree were correct, helped here. During the work, many unexpected problems arose. For example, it turned out that the water near the island stagnates, but on the paradise island it was unacceptable. The solution was found quickly and two breaks were made in the breakwater, allowing the water to be renewed.

The world's first artificial Palm Island grew in the Persian Gulf in 2 years. It took several more years to build 4,500 hotels, buildings and shopping centers. The process was not even interfered with by two strong earthquakes that occurred near the construction site with a shock strength of about 6 points.

It was assumed that the island of Jumeirah would be populated by 120 thousand people, but after the presentation of the finished project to the public, all the houses were sold out in 3 days.

For the sake of celebrities and the richest people on the planet, it was decided to increase the number of buildings. This did not go unnoticed by nature - the island that appeared artificially in the bay influenced the coastline of the mainland. The movements of the waves have changed here and there is a real danger that it will be blurred, so the creators have to keep an eye on the sand constantly.

Jumeirah inspired the sheikh to build two more of the same islands in the form of a palm tree, which, along with other structures, extended the coast of Dubai from 72 km to 1,500 km.

For all the luxury and construction costs, Palm Island and other structures built on water make environmentalists worry. They argue that such interference with the environment is causing havoc for marine organisms and their habitats, as well as destroying fish food - coral reefs. Construction on water also carries risks for residents, as these layers are not as stable as solid soil. Recently, there have been reports that Dubai's Palm Jumeirah is actually sinking. And yet, in the near future, progress may go even further and even more luxurious underwater houses may appear in the UAE. The Water Discus Hotel off the coast of Dubai will consist of an underwater and surface disc connected by a vertical shaft. But how all this will affect the oceans and underwater ecosystems remains to be seen.

Many have heard on TV about the construction of three islands in the Persian Gulf. In 2008, the architects created the fourth island. And now let's learn more about each of them. All peninsulas (connected to the coast) are shaped like palm trees, which are considered the national trees in the United Arab Emirates. A crescent moon is seen on top of each of the palms. It has several meanings. Firstly, the crescent is a symbol of all Muslims, and secondly, on the peninsulas they play the role of breakwaters. Barrier reefs have also been created for 100% protection. Surprisingly, the reefs repeat themselves in Arabic inscriptions - quotes from works written by the ruler of Dubai.

The ruler of Dubai, Mohammed, personally supervises all stages of construction. How did it all start? Everyone knows that the entire UAE economy is based on oil production. But the sheikhs were not satisfied with this alignment. Therefore, Dubai began to turn into the best resort in the world. If you look at the whole situation from the outside, you can clearly see that finances are not being spent in vain. Today Dubai is considered one of the most fashionable tourist destinations in the whole world.

Palm islands have conquered the world with their uniqueness. This is the only project of its kind in the world for which more than $ 7 million was spent. An interesting fact is that the Palm Islands are second only to the Wall of China visible in space.

Jumeirah island

The very first was the Palm Jumeirah (2001). It is a trunk with a top of 17 branches. The breakwater crescent has a length of 11 km. It is planned to build 28 hotels on it. The project was being implemented for five years. The main buildings were built and the infrastructure was formed. Today, the construction of residential buildings and landscaping of the Island is underway. According to the first stage, 1,400 mansions and 2,500 apartments have already been commissioned. There are plans to build 32 hotels. The most popular place in Jumeirah is the Atlantis complex. It consists of two huge towers with a bridge between them. The length of the beaches is 78 kilometers. The construction of villas and mansions has not yet been completed, but most of them have already been sold out. The island is very popular with the people of Great Britain. Jumeirah can be called an elite place. Many celebrities consider it a huge success to buy real estate here. Immediately after the settlement of the buildings, the problem of delivering residents to their homes arose in the first place. But today she has successfully decided to move people on a special airship and on a monorail road. Despite its size, this palm is the smallest of the four.

Jebel Ali Island

The project began to be implemented a year after the Jumeirah Island. Jebel Ali is 50 percent larger than his sister and has an unusual shape. There is no real estate sale yet, as it will take a long time to wait. Therefore, they plan to focus on recreation and tourism. A large number of houses and villas for tourists are planned to be built on Jebel Ali. Also in the project is the creation of houses for individual orders. According to forecasts, 1.7 million people will be able to simultaneously live on the Island in 2020. Infrastructure is being created first of all. Residential buildings will be built last. It is planned to build four recreation parks on the crescent. In one of them, a marine aquarium will be built, where you can watch whales, dolphins and other inhabitants of the sea. Jebel Ali is located 20 kilometers from Jumeirah. You can get there by boat. The designers want to build a road line between the Islands, which will connect not only the Islands, but also the shopping center of Dubai.

Deira Island

In 2004, construction began on Palma Deira. This project plans to build the world's largest man-made Island. It is several times larger than the older sisters. The designers have calculated that by the end of construction, a million people will be able to live on the Island. Deira consists of a fairly thick trunk and 41 branches. The top is also bordered by a breakwater - a crescent. Due to the large scale, the construction was divided into several stages.

Mir Island

At the moment, this is the last project. It was completed in 2008. Why Mir? The project consists of 300 islands, repeating the outlines of different world countries. Together, they make up a whole world map. Of course, you can only see her from a great height. The "Mir" is located not far from the Palms. Each Island embodies the traditions of the country it portrays. So this complex is a small copy of the world. There is all the infrastructure a person needs, villas and houses have been built. Flowers and trees are blooming all around. "Peace" is a corner of paradise on Earth. The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed, conceived to build such a large-scale project. Officially, the construction is carried out by a Dubai company, but in reality, foreign construction companies run everything. You can only get to the Islands by air and water. But this is not such a problem. After all, if a person can afford to buy a house for 20 million, then it is quite possible that he will buy himself either a yacht or a helicopter. Tourists will be able to visit the Islands on a high-tech airship of the latest design.

Cons of Palm Islands

Unlike the creators, biologists do not share the enthusiasm for such large structures in the bay. There are fears that the construction will negatively affect the flora and fauna. The Dubai government listens to scientists and tries to create favorable living conditions for aquatic life.

If they create new wonders of the world these days, they do it in Dubai. To see one of them, you will have to go to Jumeirah, one of the prestigious areas and go down to the bay.
Palm Islands named an archipelago consisting of three artificially created islands. For them, the shape of the trees revered in these places - date palms - has been chosen. Each got its own name - Palm Jumeirah (Palm Jumeirah) built first, Palm Jebel Ali (Palm Jebel Ali), the largest Palm Deira (Palm Deira). Small islands complement the unusual picture. The constituents "Universe" and "World" are smaller archipelagos of simple form.
Believe it or not, this engineering masterpiece took construction company Nakheel only 10 to 15 years to come true. No country in the world has yet managed to create something similar. Initially, the project seemed wonderful, but at the same time fantastic and not suitable for implementation in the material. But the creators managed to think through the whole course of action and from the very beginning of the work did not deviate from the plan. The speed with which the work went on surprised even people far from building.
The project relied on the results of a survey of this part of the Persian Gulf, a relatively shallow and wide strip of the continental shelf. To create a solid and reliable "foundation", a huge volume of stone and sand had to be lowered to the seabed.
To protect the erected islands from severe storms, it was necessary to surround them with a strip of barrier reefs. Even here, the authors did not simplify their task by giving the reefs around the second palm tree the shape of Arabic script letters. The blue waves of the bay slide along the lines of poems by Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, who ruled in the past Dubai... And the islands that rose from the water became proof of what he wrote about - sincere faith in a dream and wisdom can create an unthinkable miracle.
It is impossible to say how many years work will be carried out on Palm islands - there are still many improvements or additions in the project. But this does not detract from the merits of what has already been created, and real estate in bulk archipelagos is in demand among the elite and celebrities.
After the completion of all work in Dubai, a separate paradise will appear. Everything is designed for the comfort of wealthy guests and residents - numerous entertainment complexes, sandy beaches and green parks, golf courses, luxury hotels, and nightclubs.

Palm jumeirah

It is not long before the Palm Jumeirah is recognized as a modern wonder of the world - what can compare with this small artificial archipelago, which really looks like a stylized image of a palm tree. It is the smallest of the three palm islands, a project by Nakheel, a well-known construction company.
Only five years passed between the laying of the islands and the beginning of their development. The coastline stretches for about 520 km, and the total area is equal to eight hundred football fields. You can get to the mainland via a 300m long bridge connecting them. An underwater car tunnel with three lanes (in both directions) leads from the shore to the crescent-shaped defenses.
Palm Jumeirah is the most popular among the resorts of the emirate.
Now there are more than twenty operating hotels and entire complexes, arranged with true oriental luxury. For those who prefer a measured holiday by the calm warm sea, this is an ideal option.Islands for divers are no less interesting - artificial reefs at different depths, brought and flooded old planes and many other original ideas will make diving unforgettable.
The palm tree is divided into three parts. On the central part, which plays the role of the "Trunk", there are parks, several restaurants and large shopping centers. There, among the greenery, there are residential complexes where wealthy connoisseurs of comfort and beautiful views are offered many apartments of any size - from modest one-room apartments to luxurious ones, in four or more rooms in 20 multi-storey buildings. They offer a beautiful view of the Persian Gulf and the banks of the channel dividing the "Trunk" into two parts. The palm tree has a "crown" in the form of symmetrical "branches" spread out in the sea. There are seventeen of them, each with villas, different in size and design, arguing among themselves in luxury and richness of decoration and furnishings. There are almost one and a half thousand of them.

The "Crescent" has its own purpose - it was created to protect the rest of the archipelago that surrounds it. The "Crescent" area is given over to hotels. The most famous hotel chains are represented here. Surprisingly, the resulting mix of architectural styles doesn't seem annoying or out of place. The Venetian style is adjacent to the Japanese building, further you can see the Brazilian or strict European classics.
The main transport connection with Dubai is the monorail high-speed train.

Palm jebel ali

As gorgeous as the Palm Jumeirah is, on the second island Palm jebel ali there is a chance to surpass it in originality. For the man-made island, the site was chosen closer to the Jebel Ali harbor, the largest in the world.
The island began to be poured a year later, in 2002. The work took five years, and the construction itself was launched only in 2009. It is known about plans to build a larger area of the island city nearby - "Dubai-Waterfort".
It is still far from the completion of construction - plans that are too big take time for their implementation. In addition to business centers, a part of the island will be given over to villas and bungalows. And the spit, the protection of the island from the sea, is intended for amusement parks. Busch Gardens is set to become the most modern amusement park in the emirate, attracting children and adults alike. In addition to it, there is also Discovery Cove Aquatica and Marine Sea World. The breakwaters are no less original designed - a giant killer whale, etc. For the entertainment of tourists, a real sea village is being built, where, in addition to a huge aquarium, water super-attractions are installed.
Unfortunately, the decline in oil prices is reflected in financing and construction timeframes. Perhaps part of the project will be postponed until a more prosperous period.

Palm deira

The construction of the third Palma was the third stage in the creation of an artificial archipelago and began in 2004. Quite a lot is known about the project - Palm Deira should surpass the other two islands in size (5 and 8 times) and become the largest of all man-made islands. It will have enough space for a million people. Initially, the construction completion date was announced - 2015. But the scale of work, their complexity and high cost, combined with a decline in the world economic level, do not allow meeting the deadline.
Palm Deir has 41 branches on a solid, wide trunk. There were many difficulties in the construction of the obligatory breakwater-crescent. It was planned that the island-palm tree will revive and decorate the old area, next to which it is being erected.

The World - the whole world in miniature

Arab sheikhs have long been famous for their love of luxury and grandiose projects. And oil revenues make it possible to translate the craziest and most fantastic ideas into reality in a short time. So it appeared "The World" - a small artificial archipelago of 300 islets. Each of them is a tiny copy of some country. When viewed from above, the outlines of the islands merge into a huge map of the world.

By January 2008, all the island countries were ready. The creators did not limit themselves to giving the islands the exact shape of the selected countries and continents. The design and atmosphere of the islands were reproduced in a characteristic national style, observing the main traditions.

A lot of work was invested in creating a comfortable environment for the residents and guests of Mir. They tried to bring every little thing to the limits of possible perfection. They succeeded - luxurious elegant villas and mansions against the backdrop of enchantingly serene landscapes with lakes and quiet parks seem to be a piece of a fabulous country. Such an island can be purchased for personal use. But for the opportunity to settle in your own warm country, you need to pay a very substantial amount. Although there are plenty of people willing.
Therefore, the idea of Sheikh Mohamed, the ruler of the emirate, can be called successful and profitable. As well as the choice of the developer company - Nakheel. Several foreign contractors were allowed to work. Most of the materials for the islands came from the Emirates.
The distance from the archipelago to the coast is only 4 km, but the construction of a bridge or tunnel, like on the Palm, is not planned - only air and water transport. The owners of the "Paradise Islands" always have the opportunity to replenish their transport fleet with a helicopter or another yacht. Several pleasure ferries will be used for tourists and airships in the future.
So far, not all the islands have found themselves wealthy owners - except for Ireland, New Zealand and Australia, Greenland (Sheikh Maktum), Brunei, and Finland have been sold. The latter two islands are set to eclipse European centers of luxury and fashion over time.
Twenty islands in the "North American" part of the archipelago are left to Nakhee. They will become a resort with the beautiful name "Coral Islands". In addition to marinas for small and large yachts and luxury hotels, there is a place for beautiful villages and other components of a paradise for tourists.
The reaction to anthropogenic archipelagos can be different - ecologists are afraid of the impact on the bay and even the climate of the coast. Many believe that such projects are poorly compatible with the period of economic crises. But it is impossible not to admire this wonderful creation of engineering and architectural thought that has arisen over several decades.
