The plane is strictly regulated. Anything that does not comply with accepted transportation standards and safety requirements is thrown away during inspection. To avoid problems, you need to know all the transportation rules very well. There are not so many basic requirements that a passenger should be familiar with.

What is hand luggage?

These are those things that are not checked in as baggage, but are taken with you on board the plane. Maybe the passenger will take one large bag or two or three smaller ones. It doesn't even have to be bags. Carry-on luggage can be bags, backpacks, baskets, etc. The main requirement is that they do not exceed the established weight and dimensions standards. Attention! Clothing worn by a passenger, including a jacket or fur coat when flying in winter, does not count as hand luggage.

Options

Each airline sets the size of hand luggage on an airplane independently, so you should pay attention to this section on the ticket. For example, Lufthansa has defined the following standards: 55 x 40 x 23 cm, and for Wizz Air these parameters are much smaller: 42 x 32 x 25 cm. Most often, it is assumed that the dimensions of the bag in the sum of three dimensions do not exceed 115 cm.

The permissible weight of hand luggage on an airplane also varies. On average, a passenger has the right to take on board cargo weighing 8-13 kg. For example, according to Aeroflot airline rules, hand luggage on an airplane cannot exceed 10 kg.

Another important point: 2 or 3 bags, the total dimensions of which do not exceed the established dimensions and weight, will be considered one piece of hand luggage.

To make sure that everything is correct, it is advisable to weigh the load and measure its dimensions. Airports usually have special scales and forms so that passengers can independently check whether their bags meet the requirements.

The number of pieces of hand luggage may vary depending on the class. In budget salons, of course, there are minimal opportunities. Thus, for economy passengers, 1 piece of hand luggage is offered, for first and business class - 2.

The cheaper the ticket or airline, the more meticulously the employees inspect the passenger’s belongings. There are also carriers that separate hand luggage into large and small. For the first one there is a small additional payment.

What to do if the norm is exceeded?

If the weight is too heavy, you can transfer some of the things from the bag to the pockets of your jacket. As already mentioned, the weight and dimensions of clothing are not taken into account anywhere. Therefore, some small items can be safely moved closer to the body. Now they even produce special jackets for travelers with many large pockets. They can hold up to 10 kg of cargo.

If the size of hand luggage on an airplane is exceeded, then solving the problem will be much more difficult. It’s good if the bag can shrink due to special “zippers”. Then you can try to “shrink” its dimensions. Another option is to try to put things into bags.

What can you take on a plane?

So, large heavy bags are checked in as luggage on the plane, and carry-on luggage is taken with you.

You can put everything in your bag except prohibited items. However, some recommendations exist. Firstly, you should always remember that luggage sometimes gets lost. Of course, he is found later, but until the trial and the case, a lot of time passes. Even if this has not happened over many flights, there is no guarantee that it will not happen now. Therefore, it is safest to take all important documents (passport, insurance certificate, etc.) with you.

You also need to put in your hand luggage everything that should always be at hand, for example, medicines. This also includes basic necessities and personal hygiene products.

For safety reasons, it is also better to take various valuables, jewelry and digital equipment into the aircraft cabin. In this case, expensive things will not get lost or break.

Fragile goods also have a place in hand luggage. Handling luggage is far from careful, so various figurines and souvenirs can easily break if thrown carelessly during loading.

Thus, hand luggage on an airplane is a place for important documents, essentials and material assets.

What not to take with you

A passenger's common sense is quite capable of telling which items are undesirable in a bag. But still, attention should be paid to this issue. So, hand luggage on an airplane: what you cannot take on board:

Carrying liquids

This point deserves a separate discussion. The rules for transporting liquids have become significantly stricter since 2006. Increased precautions are due to the fact that terrorists often try to smuggle explosive substances on board an aircraft in this way. Carry-on baggage on an airplane may include liquids as long as all packing rules are followed. However, there are many nuances that need to be paid attention to.

What is liquid for airport employees:

  1. Cosmetics: lipstick, perfume, creams, etc.
  2. Toiletries: shaving foam, toothpaste, deodorant, oil, etc.
  3. Food and drinks: caviar, cheese, canned food, homemade preparations, jam, soups, etc.

Everything that belongs to this category must be packed in a transparent plastic bag measuring 20 x 20 cm. It is imperative that it is closed. The total volume of all liquids (including packaging) should not exceed 1 liter. Each “liquid” separately - no more than 100 ml. A passenger can only have one such package. It is better to buy it in advance, because prices at airports are much higher than in regular stores. And it is also advisable not to pack the contents at the last moment, since there will be no opportunity to move the excess, everything will have to be thrown away.

An exception to the rule is medicines and baby food (if the passenger is with a small child) - they do not need to be packed. However, airport security officers have the right to open the jar and taste its contents.

Transportation of products

You are allowed to take food on board the plane. And you don't even need special packaging. However, if the flight is international, then you need to know that some countries prohibit the import of certain categories of products, most often meat and dairy. This rule applies throughout the European Union. Therefore, a stick of sausage would not be the best solution. It is better to use fruits, vegetables and sweets as a snack. It is not advisable to take with you products with a strong or pungent odor, or that are very crumbly.

You should also remember that yogurt, milk, cheese, etc. are considered liquids and therefore must be specially packaged.

Products from Duty Free

There are practically no restrictions on them, sale is free. However, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the legislation of the country where you plan to enter. Therefore, you should not fill your bag with various small items, because at the entrance to the country you will also have to go through control, after which the excess may go into the trash. For example, Duty Free goods are subject to import regulations for alcohol and tobacco products. In Russia this is 2 blocks of cigarettes and 2 liters of products containing alcohol.

It will be more difficult for those flying with a transfer. There will be twice as many control procedures. This also means that what was purchased at Duty Free at the previous airport becomes the passenger’s personal belongings. Therefore, they will be subject to the general cabin baggage rules on the plane.

Also, all drinks purchased at Duty Free continue to be liquids, so they are packaged in a transparent plastic bag. However, it will not stack with the one that already exists.

It is necessary to keep the receipt, because only he can confirm that the purchases were made at Duty Free and not anywhere else. Control officers have the right to request it in order to verify the contents of the package with purchases.

Carry-on baggage addition

Some airlines have accommodated passengers halfway and somewhat relaxed the rules. For some time now, additions to existing hand luggage have been allowed. The following items are included in the category of items not taken into account:

  • 1 umbrella or cane.
  • 1 binoculars or oversized camera (a tripod must be checked in as luggage).
  • 1 laptop (along with a special bag).
  • 1 package with goods from Duty Free.
  • A handbag, or a folder for papers, or a briefcase. You can take just one thing. The size should not exceed 30 x 40 x 10 cm.
  • A small amount of newspapers to read during the flight. This could be 2-3 newspapers, magazines or a book.

This is a selection of the most common items; a full list of permitted additions must be verified directly with the carrier. It should also be remembered that a number of companies have abandoned this innovation, so for them absolutely all things that a passenger takes with them will be considered hand luggage.

Carry-on luggage on an airplane. Where to put?

Light bags and clothing items are best placed on the rack above the passenger seat. Heavy hand luggage on an airplane is placed on the floor, under the seat in front of you. It is prohibited to leave your belongings in the aisle or at the exit. Also, bags should not be left in the tail section or in the toilet. All belongings of the person making the flight must be next to him. Press and snacks can be placed on the passenger table.

It should be remembered that all electronic equipment (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) must be turned off. Therefore, it is better to remove all temptations as far as possible. Devices, especially those with Internet enabled or an active SIM card, emit and receive digital signals that can interfere with pilot communication lines and interfere with the normal operation of equipment in the control cabin.

Aeroflot 2016: how much can you check in as luggage?

All luggage of passengers at the airport is divided into two categories:

  • hand luggage;
  • checked baggage.

You carry your hand luggage with you into the passenger compartment, and check in the heaviest and largest suitcases as checked luggage. Airport staff will give you a tag in advance, and you will need to mark your suitcase so that it does not get lost during transport. He will also fly with you, but in a separate cargo compartment.

You can only take one bag as carry-on luggage, and its weight should not exceed 10 kg. The exception is for passengers flying business class. They can load a bag up to 15 kg.

The weight limits for your suitcase also depend on the class you are flying. In business class you can carry 2 pieces, each no more than 32 kg. Comfort and Premium Economy tickets allow you to take 2 seats with you, but each of these bags must weigh 23 kg or less. If you paid at the most budget rate, called economy, then you can take only one suitcase weighing no more than 23 kg. If your cargo does not exceed 1 kg, then Aeroflot does not limit the number of seats.

When processing cargo, there are several tricks that you can use to avoid overpaying for extra pounds.

  • If you are traveling with your family or a large group, then someone can take over a friend’s extra suitcase for themselves. If you have little luggage, then agree with a friend to take some of his bags. Aeroflot allows you to add up the number of seats per company, but you cannot add up the weight or dimensions of your luggage. That is, if a husband and wife are traveling together in comfort class, and their suitcase weighs 25 kg, then at the airport they will have to pay for the excess weight.
  • Aeroflot treats young parents with understanding. Often the smallest member of the family has the largest suitcase, because you need to fit diapers, a lot of changes of clothes, and all your favorite toys. If a baby under two years old is flying with you, then he is entitled to a separate luggage space, although he does not occupy a seat on the plane. A child's suitcase should not be heavier than 10 kg. Moreover, its length, height and width in total cannot exceed 115 cm. The class of the parents’ ticket does not play a role here.
  • Children from 2 to 12 years old also have the right to a separate luggage space. They can carry the same amount on their ticket as adults.

Attention! If your flight involves a transfer, inquire whether both planes belong to Aeroflot. Another carrier may have different restrictions. Please note that you do not have to “thin out” your luggage at the transfer airport or pay extra money for excess luggage.

Ural Airlines: traveling light

Ural Airlines has a special tariff that prohibits the carriage of any cargo as checked baggage. A passenger has the right to take only one small bag with him in his hand luggage. This, of course, greatly embarrasses travelers who are accustomed to flying in comfort. But the promotional tariff is the cheapest.

In other respects, Ural Airlines' cargo transportation rules are similar to those adopted by Aeroflot. The sum of the sides of your suitcase should not be more than 203 cm. Individually, these dimensions cannot be larger than 50x50x100 cm.

When flying with a business or comfort fare ticket, you can carry up to two suitcases with you, each of which will weigh 32 kg (less possible).

Advice. If the purpose of your trip is a short business trip, you can buy tickets of the same class, but marked “light”. In this case, you will only be able to take one suitcase of the same weight. This will be enough for a short business trip.

Economy group fares (including premium economy) allow passengers to carry only one suitcase, and its weight should not exceed 23 kg.

Children who are flying with their parents and do not have a separate seat can also take luggage. 10 kg of cargo can be checked into the luggage compartment as one piece. Or you can carry this bag with you in your hand luggage.

It is worth remembering that no matter what ticket you buy, you cannot take the following things as free cargo:

  • disassembled cars and motorcycles (especially whole ones), boats;
  • musical instruments;
  • flowers (live ones are not allowed, but in the form of a bouquet they are allowed), seedlings.

Separate documents must be submitted for all these items.

So, the cargo weight standards of the key carriers are almost the same. They are close to international ones. The exception is the cheapest tickets, which prohibit taking anything other than hand luggage with you.

Airplane baggage rules: video

For most passengers, both newbies and those who have never flown in their lives, the topic of cabin luggage still remains relevant. Airline regulations may change every year, so you should always pay attention to the rules and regulations for carrying hand luggage on an airplane.

So, what is carry-on luggage on an airplane? These are things that travelers take with them into the cabin without putting them in the luggage compartment. The ticket type implies a limit on the number of pieces of hand luggage per passenger. For economy class, one piece of cabin baggage is provided, business class and first class - two pieces.

If we talk about carry-on luggage, this does not mean that you can only take a handbag with you. In fact Both two and three bags are allowed, but so that they do not exceed a certain size and weight. Low-cost airlines set stricter rules for transporting items on board an airliner.

Important! If you want to know the weight of your luggage, you can weigh it at the airport and check the size.

What is allowed to be carried on board

Let's figure out what you can take with you on the plane? Carry-on luggage has a certain weight limit, so if you have a lot of bags, You only need to take into the cabin what is valuable and necessary for the flight.. For example, money, credit cards, gadgets, laptops, fragile items and jewelry.

As for the rest, you can take what is allowed by the rules established by the air carrier.

You can always find all the information about transporting items on the air carrier’s website. As for safety standards, they apply to everyone.

Aeroflot cabin baggage allowance

  1. Carry-on luggage on an airplane - dimensions and weight Aeroflot has established bag dimensions for cabin transportation - up to 115 cm (55 x 40 x 20) the sum of 3 dimensions.
  2. Business class includes hand luggage weighing up to 15 kg.
  3. Comfort and economy classes – up to 10 kg.

Perfume is carried in the cabin up to 100 ml in a transparent file with a zipper.

The new rules prohibit bringing baby food, medicines, liquids, gels, inhalers, hygiene products, cosmetics, perfumes and so on on board.

Concerning medical supplies, they are allowed to be taken on board only if the passenger has a medical certificate proving the need to take these drugs on the airliner.

Parents with children under 2 years old may carry only the amount of food needed during the flight. These provisions apply to air carriers and airports in the Russian Federation.

Rules for transporting fruit on board an aircraft

If you are flying domestically, You can bring fruits and airlines have no ban on their transportation.

The main thing is that everything is at normal weight. That is, both in the luggage compartment and in the cabin with you, you can fill it with apples and pears, for example, even to the top, as long as it’s did not exceed 20 and 10 kg, respectively. If you are carrying grapes, they will leak in the luggage compartment and ruin the luggage of other travelers.

It is better to transport such fruits in dense containers.

Fruit on international flights

The laws here are different due to customs legislation. First of all, you need to read the rules for importing and exporting fruits of the countries you will visit.

Often, no one ever had any difficulties with export, but regarding import, not everything is so smooth here anymore. Since plants, fruits, vegetables are regulated goods, their import is carefully monitored by sanitary services.

If you are importing fruit from other countries to Russian territory, then remember that per person there are up to 5 kg of agricultural products.

The only thing is that it is prohibited to import fruits into the territory of the Russian Federation from the countries of the European Union, Australia, Turkey, Canada, the USA, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Norway, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

If import smuggled fruit into the country, they will be confiscated and imposed fine of 500 rubles. Confiscation is carried out only of regulated products. Repeated violation involves a fine in 1000 rubles.

Features of transporting fruits in the cabin

There are also restrictions on fruits for transportation on board.

Often fruits can be carried in hand luggage on a plane and are carried. But you can carry as much as you need to eat during the flight.

If you bring a bag of exotic fruits, they will take it away from you; if you bring a couple of kilograms, they will not pay attention to them.

If you are flying from Thailand, it is prohibited to transport durian due to its specific smell.

The lack of factory packaging may also be a refusal for transportation, but people may turn a blind eye to this if the fruit is in small quantities.

In general, fruits are allowed to be transported in the cabin of an airliner, but within reasonable limits.

How much space is available for cabin luggage?

Here we will take a closer look at the standards for transporting hand luggage in the cabin of the airliner, dimensions, weight and what cannot be considered hand luggage.

As was previously said, Economy class assumes one place for transporting things in the cabin, A business and first class – 2. A handbag and briefcase are not included in the baggage carried in the cabin, as well as clothes in a case, a suit, a dress, a laptop, and an umbrella.

However, they have strict restrictions on the carriage of luggage in the cabin, that is, 1 person - 1 piece of cabin luggage. This does not include strollers or outerwear. Duty Free packages are allowed.

The weight and dimensions of luggage and hand luggage must be taken into account

Carry-on luggage - dimensions and weight

Cabin baggage weight and size may vary based on the rules established by the airline, ticket class and travel distance.

The standards relate to the sum of 3 dimensions not exceeding 115 cm (55×40×20cm). Hand luggage – 5-10 kg. You can always weigh your luggage at the check-in counter, and you can transfer any excess from your cabin bag to your luggage.

If you are flying only with cabin baggage, there is no need to transfer things to the luggage compartment. Therefore, it is better to weigh your luggage at home on scales or specially designed ones.

Low-cost airlines inspect the suitcase in a specific frame, which must fit with wheels and a handle. For example, Wizzair assumes the weight of cabin luggage is 10 kg, and its size is no more than 42x32x25cm.

Hand luggage. What can and cannot be taken on a plane?

Carry-on luggage raises many questions. To avoid any hassles when boarding a flight, learn about basic security requirements and airline baggage restrictions on board the plane. Prohibited items, number of pieces, size and weight of hand luggage, rules for transporting liquids, food and medicine.

What can you take on a plane?

If hand luggage is not the only baggage you are flying with, then you should take with you on the plane only the most valuable and necessary items on the road that are allowed for transportation:

  • money
  • bank cards
  • documentation
  • equipment and gadgets (phone, camera, computer, tablet)
  • jewelry
  • fragile items

The rest of the contents of your carry-on luggage depends on the airline's baggage requirements and your desire to carry it all. Take the test What can you carry on board an airplane?

All current information about the rules for carrying hand luggage is posted on the websites of airports and airlines. Safety standards are mandatory for everyone, and the number of pieces, weight and size of hand luggage are regulated by airlines.

What not to take in hand luggage

It is prohibited to carry dangerous objects and substances in the aircraft cabin and checked baggage:

  • weapon
  • flammable substances and liquids
  • liquefied gases
  • explosives
  • toxic/radioactive/poisonous/caustic substances
  • piercing and sharp objects

In hand luggage you cannot carry seemingly harmless household items: a corkscrew, a file with sharp edges and nail clippers, scissors, tweezers, a straight razor, a penknife, a corkscrew, knitting needles. All this must be checked in as luggage, and if it is not there, then look for alternatives or buy on the spot. For example, an electric razor or a razor with replaceable units is allowed to be carried in hand luggage, and nail files can be soft.

Rules for transporting liquids in hand luggage

How much liquid can I carry?

Unless additional security measures are introduced, liquids with a total volume of 1 liter in packages of no more than 100 ml are allowed to be carried in hand luggage. You can carry any amount of liquids in any volumes in your luggage.

Liquids include: water, drinks, creams, lotions, aerosols, gels, foams, pastes, etc. Cosmetics (mascara, lip gloss) are also liquids. Keep in mind that if a 200 ml shampoo bottle is half filled, it cannot be carried. The fluids of people flying together do not add up.

Exception: baby food needed by the child during the flight; medications and dietary foods with a doctor’s certificate/prescription.

Where can I get 100 ml containers?

Do not throw away bottles of shampoos and shower gels provided in hotels. Most cosmetic brands sell or give away mini sets of cosmetics with purchase. You can buy a set of liquid containers and fill them with your own liquids.

When going through security control, liquids must be presented separately in a transparent resealable bag. You can buy a bag that meets the requirements at stationery stores (a file with a zipper); a food storage bag with a Zip-Lock or a transparent cosmetic bag with a zipper is also suitable. Some airlines impose additional restrictions on the size of a bag with liquids: 20x20cm, 18x20cm.

Changes to the rules for transporting liquids

During the Olympics in Sochi, the Federal Air Transport Agency introduced a complete ban on the transport of liquids on airplanes. Restrictions may vary from country to country - please check for current information before departure. If during pre-flight inspection it turns out that you have violated the rules for transporting liquids, you will be asked to get rid of the prohibited item yourself (throw it into a special container). Discussions on this topic are useless; they can lead to missed boarding or removal from the flight.

Food in hand luggage

You can take fruits, nuts, hard cheese, sausage, muesli bars, and sandwiches on board. Hand luggage should not contain products prohibited for transportation by customs regulations and liquids with a volume of more than 100 ml. Water and food can be purchased after going through pre-flight security in the “clean zone”; food and drinks on board are offered by most airlines (included in the ticket or purchased separately). You can take an empty water bottle with you and ask the flight attendant to fill it.

Medicines in hand luggage

You are allowed to carry medicines in their original packaging in hand luggage. Check in advance whether your medications are legal in your destination country. If medications are prescribed by a doctor, it is better to take it with you. Liquid medicines (gels, aerosols, ointments, ampoules) are subject to the rules for transporting liquids - no more than 100 ml. If the medicine is vital, notify the airport staff and present a doctor's certificate or an extract from your medical history.

Number of pieces of hand luggage

The number of pieces of hand luggage is regulated by the airline. As a rule, you are allowed to take 1 piece of luggage into the cabin. Business and first class passengers are allowed to carry 2 pieces of hand luggage. Most large airline companies do not count a handbag or men's briefcase, umbrella, laptop, suit or dress in a clothing case as a separate item.

Budget airlines have strict baggage requirements, following the rule: 1 person = 1 piece of hand luggage. The exceptions are folding strollers, crutches, and outerwear. You are almost always allowed to take a Duty Free package on board.

Size and weight of hand luggage

The dimensions and weight of the baggage that you can take into the cabin also depend on the requirements of the airline, the class of the ticket and the flight route. Carry-on luggage can be a small suitcase, backpack, bag.

Standard carry-on baggage size requirements: no more than 115 cm in the sum of three dimensions (55x40x20cm). Hand luggage weight is 5-10 kg. Example: a standard-sized suitcase for transportation in the cabin of an airplane.

At the airport, you can always check your weight at a free check-in counter and transfer extra kilos to your checked baggage. If you're flying with only carry-on baggage, this won't happen, so check your carry-on baggage weight at home on a bathroom scale. Low-cost airlines check framed luggage, it must fit completely into the frame, including wheels and handles.

Check with your airline about transportation of sports equipment, musical instruments and other oversized items. Before you buy anything on a trip, think about whether there is free space in your luggage; you will have to pay extra for excess space.

The benefits of traveling light

  • You save on airfare.
  • Items in your hand luggage are guaranteed to fly with you (if you don’t leave them unattended or forget them).
  • You don't have to stand at the front desk (in most cases).
  • You don't have to wait for baggage claim, so you leave the airport faster than anyone else and get to your destination.

Are you traveling?

80% of people are unaware of their debts. Check your debts online and pay off your debt at least 2 weeks before departure.

At the end of 2017, President Putin V.V. a law was signed amending the “General Rules for the Air Transportation of Passengers, Baggage, Cargo and Requirements for Services for Passengers, Shippers, and Consignees.” According to the adopted law, Russian airlines are introducing uniform rules for the carriage of baggage on planes, with the exception of Aeroflot's subsidiary Pobeda.

Current!

Let's take a look at what rules are relevant in 2020 for carrying luggage on an airplane.

According to the November law, new baggage allowances allow a bag or suitcase weighing up to 30 kg per piece. Less is allowed, more is not allowed. Each passenger is provided with individual luggage.

Important! The permissible weight of items depends on the ticket category: economy, business or first class. The higher the ticket class, the more options available in terms of baggage capacity.

Separate luggage can be checked in for a child under two years of age. The weight of the bag should not exceed 10 kg.

There is no single global standard for all airlines. It is worth focusing on the country to which the passenger is flying. For example, when traveling to Dubai, items and literary publications of a religious nature, with the exception of Islam, are prohibited from being transported. Also consider the restrictions of each airline individually.

Excess baggage

So, if a passenger has purchased an economy class ticket, he can carry luggage weighing up to 23 kg. For larger cargo, the traveler must pay extra, but some air carriers allow a slight excess without additional payment.

If you know in advance that baggage will fall into the excess baggage category, check the cost of the surcharge with your air carrier.

Baggage over 30 kg – heavy luggage

Carrying baggage on an airplane: new rules equate weight over 30 kg to the heavyweight category. Previously, the maximum weight was up to 32 kg.

For such cargo you have to pay extra for each kilogram. There are no uniform tariffs; each company sets the price at its own discretion.

In addition to excess weight, there may be excess dimensions in the sum of three dimensions. Such things include:

  • alpine skis and other large sports equipment;
  • musical instruments, for example, guitar, double bass;
  • household appliances, such as a refrigerator.

To transport such goods, a preliminary agreement with the company is required. Before your flight, contact customer support. On the day of departure, it is better to arrive at the airport in advance, as special cargo will take longer to register.

Some carriers allow you to carry free ski equipment in winter or diving boards to resorts.

Companies have the right to refuse to transport oversized cargo if the cargo compartments are too small or there is not enough space.

Baggage free ticket

A number of airlines support baggage-free travel. According to it, the passenger flies only with hand luggage. This method has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include the low cost of flights. The negative side is that the tickets are non-refundable.

Consolidated baggage

For couples, traveling families, colleagues and friends there is a luggage consolidation service. You can put all your things in one suitcase, which will be counted as one piece of luggage.

Fragile luggage

When transporting glassware, electronics and decorative items, many passengers worry about the safety of things, because most often at airports suitcases are treated carelessly and thrown into a general dump.

In such situations, the traveler can check in baggage marked “fragile”. To do this, provide information when registering your belongings, and the suitcase will not be allowed through the belt. The loaders will take it to the luggage compartment.

Note! The ability to check in fragile luggage does not guarantee the safety of the passenger's belongings.

It is better to take fragile items that meet the parameters of hand luggage into the aircraft cabin. The main thing is that things do not contain liquid. You will have to discard jars of jam and compotes by putting them in the luggage compartment.

Hand luggage

What weight of luggage is allowed on the plane? Changes to the air travel law that came into force in November limited the minimum weight of hand luggage. Previously, it was possible to carry at least 10 kg free of charge for non-refundable and refundable tickets, now the limit is from 5 kg.

Most carriers allowed you to carry a suitcase weighing 10 kg on board. There was an additional charge for luggage in the luggage compartment.

The new law means that the airline is required to take 5 kg or more into the cabin, but it is possible to increase the weight if desired. For example, S7, UTair and Aeroflot announced their intention to maintain the previous norm of 10 kg.

The following rules are currently in effect on the official Aeroflot website:

In addition, the list of free items for carrying on board in addition to hand luggage has undergone changes. We'll talk about them below.

What items can you take into the cabin without checking them in as hand luggage?

According to the old requirements, it was allowed to take the following things into the salon free of charge without weighing, tagging or registration:

  • costume;
  • laptop;
  • video camera;
  • camera;
  • mobile phone;
  • baby food for the duration of the unlimited flight;
  • baby carrier (folding cradle or folding stroller);
  • books, magazines, newspapers;
  • outerwear;
  • women's handbag;
  • briefcase;
  • a folder with papers and documents;
  • cane;
  • crutches;
  • umbrella;
  • bouquet of flowers.

Now the umbrella, laptop and cell phone are excluded from the list. The Ministry of Transport explained these changes as an opportunity to remove the listed items from the bag.

In addition, the list of free items has been supplemented with a new item - a backpack. The management of Pobeda Airlines confirmed the information that the carriage of backpacks will be allowed if its size fits into the established standards by the company.

For Pobeda, hand luggage restrictions will be 36x30x27, while the minimum ticket price starts from five hundred rubles.

Items allowed in hand luggage and on you

A passenger may wish to keep a number of items with him or her in hand luggage. These include:

  • carbon dioxide cylinders (used to activate artificial limbs);
  • glasses repair tools, including a screwdriver less than 50 mm long;
  • lighter or non-hazardous matches (only with you);
  • pacemaker;
  • other pharmaceutical devices, including those using radioactive isotopes, with lithium batteries. Allowed to be kept only with oneself;
  • robot toy;
  • razors, including disposable ones;
  • eyelash curler;
  • nitroglycerin tablets or spray for treatment;
  • oxygen cylinders for medical purposes;
  • injection needles for a passenger with diabetes or specialized medications.

Actions in case of loss

No one is protected from losing things during air travel. Items go missing while being loaded or unloaded into the luggage compartment, or they are accidentally sent on another flight.

In case of loss of personal belongings, follow the instructions:

  1. Make sure you have your baggage receipt on hand;
  2. Contact the missing items department with the form;
  3. Write a statement;

Within three weeks, the carrier chosen by the passenger is obliged to find the items and return them. The parcel is delivered to your home free of charge, and the client does not have to go anywhere or pay anything.

If you return damaged or missing luggage after three weeks, you can contact the company with a request to compensate for the losses.

If the carrier refuses to compensate for the damage, the citizen has the right to request a written refusal, with which he can go to court for further proceedings.

The Montreal Convention enshrines an international agreement that stipulates the maximum possible compensation for the loss of a bag - 1131 SDR (artificial reserve and payment instrument issued by the IMF). This is approximately $1500.

In practice, the figure depends on the specific carrier. Foreign companies pay on average $20/kg. Large foreign airlines may pay the excess amount according to their internal rules. Russian airlines pay approximately 600₽.

If a passenger has lost luggage while on an international flight, they should apply for a search no later than a week after the date of receipt of the items.

On domestic flights, you are allowed to file a claim within six months from the date of loss.

Standard compensation requires a description of the missing luggage. If you have receipts for lost items, you can present them with the application. Then you should expect a full or partial refund.

Advice! If you are transporting fragile or valuable items, insure them before the flight with declared value by paying an additional fee.
