Kamala Beach is the best beach in Phuket in our opinion. Our preferences do not always coincide, but we both liked Kamala at first sight. Kamala has a calm sea, pleasant sand, few tourists and all the necessary infrastructure. We were lucky enough to live on Kamala for a whole month, and during this time we did not get tired of the beach.

Kamala Beach, Phuket

Kamala Beach: description and impressions

What a beauty! - the first thoughts that come to mind when approaching the beach. And what blue water is here! There are no waves, you can swim! We take off our flip-flops - the sand is so soft and fine, it’s as if you’re walking on fluff. And there are so few tourists! I've been on the beach for 10 minutes already, and I haven't heard a single Russian word yet.. Is this really Phuket??

Kamala beach. Phuket

Kamala is a great place to stay in Phuket

The water is clean, although not always crystal clear. For a month I never touched any debris in the water. Usually there are no waves at all or they are very small, only on some days there are medium waves on which you can jump. Sometimes you can feel a bite in the water - a feature of all Phuket beaches. We still don’t understand who bites, small plankton or tiny jellyfish.

Entry into the water is pleasant and smooth, the bottom is sandy without stones and shells. I would even say that the approach and bottom here are simply ideal. To a depth “up to the neck” of 30-40 meters. There are specially fenced safe swimming areas where lifeguards are on duty and boats are not allowed to enter. But at low tide the water goes away and swimming is complicated by the fact that it becomes very shallow.

Waves on Kamala

Few Russian tourists

There are generally few tourists on Kamala, compared to the most famous beaches - Kata, Karon and Patong. The resort is not very popular among Russian-speaking holidaymakers. When we arrived here, I heard Russian speech only on the third day. And I thought that Phuket is the second Pattaya in terms of the number of compatriots. Mostly Europeans, Germans and British, and the Chinese, of course, vacation here. There is also an occasional American accent.

At the end of November, with the onset of the high season, more Russians appeared. Now on the beach, nationalities are mixed in approximately equal proportions. However, according to my observations, the Russians on this beach are not some kind of redneck, but rather decent people. There was no such thing as anyone swearing all over the beach, sorting things out, or staggering around drunk. On this beach there is no shame for the fatherland

How to sunbathe? Sunbed with umbrellas and shade from palm trees

Phuket now has sun loungers again. An umbrella is placed between them. The amenities are not free. Prices seem to be 200 baht for 2 sun loungers and an umbrella. If the price has changed, write in the comments.

These are the homemade sun loungers

If you don’t want to pay for a sun lounger, you can always sit anywhere on the beach on your own towel. Until about lunchtime there will be shade under the palm trees, so umbrellas are not really needed. The main thing is not to lie down under a palm tree with coconuts. On most palm trees they are cut off, but for some reason some palm trees are not touched.

Relaxing in the shade of palm trees

Fun on the beach

Entertainment options include jet skis, banana boats and parasailing. 30 minutes on a scooter costs 1,500 baht. We didn’t find out about the banana and the parachute, but I think it’s worth flying just as much. There are also several massage points in the middle part of the beach.

Cafes and restaurants

There are several beach cafes right on the sand, which are open from 10 am until late in the evening. In the middle part there are several bars and cheap street cafes “for locals”, where tourists eat mainly. The prices are not particularly different from ordinary Thai cafes, well, maybe a little more expensive, because they are on the first line.

Beach cafes

Cheap Thai cafes

There are always several shops near Thai cafes, where we often bought pancakes with banana for 40 baht. It's a little more expensive than on the main road, where the same pancake costs 30 baht. By the way, you can eat in these cafes with your own drinks. I don't know about the liquor, but we used to bring our own soda from 7-Eleven.

Lots of traders

The traders are unobtrusive, you just need to say no or ignore them. But they can quickly get bored with the fact that they come up to you 5 times a day with their elephants, scarves and fake watches.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article

The process of hilling tourists

Deserted beach

In the far right corner of Kamala near the mountain is the famous Novotel. Between central beach and the Novotel beach stretches across a deserted, semi-wild area. Here you can position yourself so that there will not be a single tourist within a radius of 100 meters from you

Do you still think Kata Beach is the best in Phuket? Read on. IN In the area of the wild beach there is such a paradise clearing:

Best of the exotic

Novotel Beach

Having passed wild beach, we find ourselves on the beach of the Novotel hotel. This is a small corner lagoon, so the sea is always calm. Casuarina trees grow on the shore, providing shade and emitting a pleasant pine scent. Perfect place for swimming with children. But we didn’t really like swimming here, since it’s very shallow.

Low tides

Low tides occur every day, sometimes quite strong. I find swimming at low tide somehow unpleasant. Usually the tide is always high around 10-12 am, and the low tide begins around lunchtime. By evening the water rises again. Sometimes low tide occurs early in the morning. I remotely determined whether the tide was low or high by the water level in the stinking river that flows into the sea. At high tide the rivers fill up and dry up at low tide.

Low tide. Photo in the left non-swimable part of the beach

Stinky rivers

Like all Phuket beaches, Kamala has one unpleasant feature - 3 stinking rivers flow into the sea. While swimming, you don’t think about it, and it’s not noticeable that there are any impurities floating in the water or unpleasant odors in the air. Maybe the current carries you away from the beach. But every time you pass by such a river, you try not to inhale its pungent, fetid aroma once again.

Stinking river at high tide

By the way, in this temple, which is in the photo above, we recently celebrated a big Thai celebration.

The left corner of the beach, where one of the rivers flows, is used for boat parking.

Sunsets

I would like to end the article with something more positive than a description of stinking rivers. Kamala has great sunsets. To enjoy the sunset as much as possible, I advise you to go towards Novotel, because in the central part of the beach the sunset will be blocked by the mountain.

Kamala Map

The following diagram shows useful points: swimming areas, 7-elevens, the only toilet (10 baht), cafes, and mini-markets with beach accessories and souvenirs:

How to get to Kamala

On public transport in principle, you can get there cheaper, but it will take longer, since you first have to take a minibus across the entire island to Phuket Town (100 baht), and then change to a Kamala bus (40 baht). Total 140 baht per person. If you know your way around Phuket well, you can take a shortcut, get off right after the Heroes Monument, cross the road and catch a bus to Kamala. But keep in mind that buses only run until 17-18 hours. - no longer relevant! Now there is a bus in Phuket that can take you to Kamala for 150 baht per person.

From other beaches: if you have your own transport, getting there will not be difficult. Just follow the signs north of Phuket along the coast. From Patong it takes about 15 minutes. From Karon and Kata go through Patong.

If you don’t have a bike or a car, you can get there on a Smart Bus. Or by bus with a transfer through Phuket town. You get to the final one (Market bus station) - at the beginning of the street there will be buses to Kamala. As a rule, they are always written in English Bangtao - Surin - Kamala. Travel time is about 1 hour or more, as there may be traffic jams. The fare is 40 baht. These buses look something like this:

You can also get there by taxi. A taxi from Patong costs 400 baht. But, you can bargain with taxi drivers. We went once for 300, another time for 350 ($10).

Hotels on Kamala Beach

We selected several hotels where we could stay ourselves. We chose hotels in the mid-price category, as well as the most decent budget options.

Among the top three popular places holiday on the island and well suited for a relaxing holiday by the sea. Its peculiarity is that the coastal route goes to the east and does not separate the beach itself and residential area. Thanks to this, there are hotels that can truly be considered first line. This place is also much calmer than others, where cars and motorcycles are constantly scurrying around, filling the air with exhaust and noise. Kamala Beach beach is equidistant from both and about twenty kilometers away. The total length of the beach is approximately one and a half kilometers, and the width of the sand strip is from five to thirty meters.

Conventionally, Kamala Beach in Phuket can be divided into three parts.

  1. South. In the south, the strip of sand is no wider than five meters. It is there that the berths for excursion boats are located and therefore the water is quite dirty, and there are no umbrellas or sun loungers on the shore.
  2. Central. Kamala Beach itself begins after the road turns east. Geographically, this is the central part of the beach. There are a lot of people on all days, sun loungers and umbrellas stand like soldiers in a parade - in several rows. All types of water activities are available, from bananas and cheesecakes to jet skis and jet skis. Right along the strip of sand there are cafes and restaurants, as well as massage parlors.
  3. Northern. The northern part of the beach is the calmest, there are not too many tourists there, but they are the guests of first-line hotels. Outside guests are not driven, they can also use sunbeds and umbrellas. According to many family tourists, northern Kamala is best place for relaxation and swimming.

Natural conditions on Kamala Beach

Sprawling palm trees and casuarinas (horsetail plants) grow along the entire coastline of Kamala Beach. Until noon they cover the sand with thick shadow. During high tides, the strip of sand narrows to a few meters, so you can literally plunge into the sea from a running start. The sand itself is grayish; as you move south, more and more small stones appear in it.

In the south and north of the beach, the entrance to the sea is very gentle, and the southern part is shallower, which is why it is used for mooring boats. If you want to go deeper, then go to the central part, but during low tide it also becomes shallow. You can safely enter the water: there are no large stones or fragments of coral.

The color of the water changes depending on the time of day. In the morning, when the rays glide over the surface of the sea, it is bright turquoise. In the afternoon and evening it becomes grayish due to the sand on the bottom. Which is an optical illusion, the water is as gentle and clean as on the beaches or.

Cleanliness level

Due to the abundance of tourists, Kamala Beach in Phuket is not clean. The most thorough cleaning is on the northern edge, where the Novotel hotel is located, as well as in the center, where a strip of sand is allocated to the Kamala Beach Resort hotel.

It is worth noting that for some reason long green branches broken off from casuarinas are not considered garbage. Therefore, their number increases with distance from water.

Beach infrastructure

Vacationers on Kamala Beach are provided with umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. A set of two sun loungers and an umbrella cost about 200 baht per day. Services are permanently offered, a session of which can be obtained not only in a salon nearby, but also right on the sand.

There is a path along the shore. It separates social and cultural enterprises - cafes, souvenir shops - from the beach. In the northern part of the beach, hotel doors open onto this path. A little further from the sea, next to the police station, there are sellers of hot cakes and ice cream - the so-called. It's cheaper there than in a cafe, but lunch on a shady veranda overlooking the sea looks more attractive. The average bill at a beach cafe is about five hundred baht for two persons.

The northern part of the beach is attractive because of the club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which opened in 2016. It has a swimming pool. In addition to all kinds of dishes, they also serve live music. The main action begins after six in the evening, when vacationers move from their sun loungers to the dance floor. There is also a bar and a VIP area. On weekends, the crazy fun starts from 14:00.

Things to do

For those interested in what to do on Kamala Beach, we especially recommend. Tourists from all over the island gather to watch the grand performance with the participation of hundreds of actors and animals. total area entertainment center 50 hectares, the Golden Kinnaree restaurant operates on its territory, accommodating up to 4 thousand visitors at a time.

In the residential area near the beach there are restaurants and bars, massage parlors, and tour desks. There are no large shopping centers, but it will not be difficult to buy everything you need - beach accessories, daily clothes and shoes. In general, Kamala has everything you need to relax comfortably and in style.

Top hotels

Kamala Beach hotels in Phuket can satisfy both epicureans and ascetics. For the former, five-star hotels are open, and for the latter, affordable guesthouses. You can find the most suitable hotel on the websites hotellook.ru or roomguru.ru. And you can see the best of them in the selection below.

The coast stretches for almost 3 kilometers. The beach can be divided into 3 areas: south on both sides of the hill, center and north. The southernmost tip of Kamala is not suitable for swimming. At low tide it becomes very shallow here, and the bottom with stones is exposed. Two rivers flow into the sea from the south side, and fishermen moor their long-tail boats here. Just south of Kamala, across the pass, lies the secret Hua Beach. It is completely wild, there is almost no infrastructure there.

The central part of Kamala starts from the tsunami monument and continues to the north. The sand here is of different sizes, in some places it is very fine, in others it is larger. The entry into the sea is gentle and without rocks, which is suitable for swimming with children. At low tide you need to walk to the depths. The color of the water is not as beautiful as in Surin; the sea sometimes seems cloudy, although it is clear. The central part of the beach is bordered by casuarinas and palm trees, creating natural shade. This is where the main beach infrastructure is located: sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, trays with drinks and water sports. The price for a set of two sun loungers and an umbrella is 200 baht for the whole day. There are places where you can sit with your mat in the shade of trees and relax comfortably without fear of getting sunburned. Paid toilets and showers are available at nearby restaurants.

The very north of Kamala is quieter than the central part. There are few people here, you can sit on a mat in the shade of trees, and swimming is just as comfortable as in the center; the low tides are hardly noticeable. A stream flows into the sea, which dries up in the high season and does not bother vacationers.

The south of Kamala Beach is not suitable for swimming

Kamala Beach Hotels

There are not many hotels on Kamala. All of them are located near the sea. In the very south on the mountain there are also private villas. The sea around them is not the best: low tides are noticeable, the bottom is full of rocks, but hotels provide shuttles to their own beach club with good sea, and the views from the rooms and restaurants are gorgeous. In the central part of Kamala you can stay in a three-star hotel, in a four-star hotel for adults over 16 years old only, and in a children's hotel with entertainment for younger guests. In the northern part it is located right on the beach, and a little to the side - with water slides.

Photo sessions are held in Kamala

Attractions and entertainment

The coast is popular with newlyweds from China. In the morning, photographers run around happy married couples and force them to pose even in the midday heat. Photo sessions take place closer to the north of the coast, where it is less crowded. There are not as many water sports in Kamala as on and, you can ride a jet ski, fly with a parachute. The bay is suitable for a quiet beach holiday, long swims and watching a charming sunset, sitting on the sand or in one of the restaurants near the beach. There are no problems with drinks and Thai food right on the coast: in the central part, rows of cafes line up every day and cafes are located. Along the beach itself there are peddlers selling corn, ice cream and other snacks. There are several massage points right on the beach and salons located along the streets.

Makashnitsy near the beach offering cocktails

In the southern part of the beach there is a Buddhist temple - Wat Baan Kamala. On the territory of the shrine you will find a bell tower, monastic cells, a school and the main building with painted walls and a statue of Buddha. The beauty of the temple cannot be compared with or. Wat Baan Kamala features rustic charm and tranquil seclusion. If you have time, check out this Buddhist temple, just be sure to cover your shoulders, cleavage, knees and stomach. It is customary to take off your shoes when entering a building.

There are many cafes along the beach in the central part

In the evening it is worth visiting the famous. There are many shops with souvenirs on the streets, you can take pictures in national clothes, see local crafts, a small terrarium and Bengal tigers, and ride an elephant. You can visit the park with dinner, which takes place in the golden palace of Kinari. The show is held every day except Thursday, in a stone palace with elephants. The village of Fantasy and the show will appeal to children. If you are relaxing with an adult group, you should give preference.

What to do in Kamala?

In the central part of the coast, vacationers are offered water sports: parachute, banana and aqua scooter. In the south, long-tail boats moor for trips along the beaches of Phuket. There are no places for snorkeling on Kamala; it is better to go to the islands for fish and corals.

During the low season from May to October, waves appear on Kamala. Here you can rent a surfboard or take lessons with an instructor. For those who like training, in the south, before the pass on, there is a Thai boxing camp where both group and individual classes are held.

In the center of the beach, on the embankment near the Tsunami Memorial, there is a small park with a playground and sports equipment. Kids will enjoy riding the slides or swinging on the swings. Access to the playground and use of exercise equipment is free. From the hill, a little north of the hotel Novotel Phuket Kamala offers a gorgeous view of the entire beach. If you wish, you can get there on foot along the main road, but be careful: there are no pedestrian paths.

View from observation deck to Kamala

If you get bored in Kamala, explore Phuket by city bus. Its stop is located near the local post office. A blue songthaew travels along the main road from Kamala through Surin and Bangtao to Phuket Town. By bus you will get to the Villa Market, and , and shopping centers. Detailed information about the route

Restaurants and cafes

Kamala Beach is lined with vendors selling drinks, popcorn, ice cream and other foods. In the central part of the coast, restaurants and cafes, pop-up shops and stalls with, and are lined up in a row. The streets near the Print Kamala Hotel and the Tsunami Monument are lined with restaurants serving European food. I can recommend the German restaurant Kokosnuss, which offers pasta, schnitzels, sausages, yoghurts, pastries and much more. On the shore with a gorgeous view of the sea there is a good Mamma Mia restaurant with European, Thai cuisine and. Another favorite of mine - Ohlala restaurant - is located on the main highway. The menu offers Thai classics, dishes from the north of Thailand, including khao soi soup, papaya salad, and European food.

Beach street with shops and restaurants

For a special occasion, try Plum Restaurant at the Cape Sienna Hotel. On the open terrace there are ordinary tables and round gazebos surrounded by water. The prices in the restaurant are above average, but the view is simply amazing. The menu includes Mediterranean, European and Thai seafood cuisine. And if you want to drink a cup of delicious Thai coffee, go to Doi Chang Coffee. Detailed information you will find about Kamala restaurants.

Night life

Kamala cannot boast of active evening entertainment. Several bars are located on the streets of the central part of the beach and along the main road. Perhaps the most famous are Kamala Beer Garden and the sports Aussie Pub. Towards the north you will find two beach clubs - the Phuket branch of Ibiza's famous Café Del Mar and HQ Beach Lounge. During the day, beach clubs play pleasant music suitable for lunch, and towards night there are parties.

Desperate partygoers should go, take a walk, look into bars, where, have a blast at a disco. Some hotels offer shuttles to Bangla Street or Jangceylon Shopping Centre. will cost 300-400 baht per car one way. The drive is only 10-15 minutes.

Markets and shops on Kamala Beach

The Kamala area cannot be called a paradise for shopaholics, but everything you need is there: exchange offices, markets, 24-hour mini-markets and a supermarket. scattered all over the beach, both on the embankment, near the Tsunami Monument, and several on the main highway. There are two markets on Kamala: opposite on Fridays and at the pass to Patong on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Big C Shopping Center

Groceries, ready meals, household chemicals, cosmetics and much more can be bought at the Big C supermarket on the main road, at Tesco Lotus Express or at Superchip. You will find souvenirs and beach accessories in shops on the embankment and on nearby streets. Don’t forget about: peddlers walking along the beach with elephants, tunics, and blankets. Be sure to bargain with them.

Map of Kamala Beach in Russian

I have indicated all the above-described attractions, hotels, cafes, restaurants, markets, entertainment and shops on the map below. You can download it to your phone.

Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is a resort spa hotel located on Kamala Beach (Phuket Province). It offers a restaurant, open pool, as well as parking and Wi-Fi (free). Many tourists consider the Kamala Hotel Resort Spa one of the most best options, chosen by them for accommodation on vacation.

Kamala Beach

Kamala (Phuket) is a beach on a resort island that may appeal primarily to lovers of measured, calm and inexpensive holiday. The cost of staying at a hotel here is much lower than on Karon Beach or Patong. Length coastline is about 2 km. This significantly exceeds the length of the coastlines on other popular Phuket beaches.

In general, Kamala (Phuket) is a kind of village. So, if Patong can already be compared with Pattaya, then here development is still, one might say, in its infancy. This is partly due to the tsunami that occurred in 2004. The entire island was affected, but Kamala Beach suffered the most.

As already mentioned, the beach is quite spacious and long, which, of course, captivates many. There is no such crowd that can be seen in Patong. Many people like the relative uncrowding and tranquility of Kamala Beach.

Peculiarities

One of the main features of Kamala Beach is the Phuket Fantasea (Fantasy Show) held here. This is an amazing show based on the story of Prince Kamala. The show is incredibly colorful, it is distinguished by the use of unusual beautiful costumes, the participation of illusionists, acrobats and clowns. But main feature performances are elephants, actively participating in the performance and amusing the audience.

It should be noted that there are practically no Russian tourists here. Holidays here are more suitable for older people and couples with children. Undoubtedly, Kamala will be comfortable for those who do not like noise and bustle.

How to get there?

Kamala Beach is accessible from any of the popular beaches in Phuket. If you discard the option of having your own bike or taxi, you can use by shuttle bus, plying the route to Kamala from Phuket Town. In general, there are several types of bus routes that connect popular beaches.

If you are coming from the city, you need to take the bus at Ranong Market and follow it to the final stop. The fare is 40 baht (71.20 rubles) per person. It is a little more expensive than other beaches, but the distance from the city to Kamala is slightly longer.

Experienced travelers advise tourists, when returning home from the beach, to walk up the road a few hundred meters. Here you can find a wonderful place for memorable photos, similar to observation deck. The view from here is simply stunning.

Description of the beach

Tourists who choose Kamala Beach for their holiday speak favorably about the water, sand and degree of cleanliness on the territory. Here, in their opinion, everything is quite acceptable. They note a huge shoal, because of which those who want to swim at low tide have to go very far from the shore.

When the sea is rough and there are big waves, sand rises from the bottom. Some may think that the water is dirty, but this is not true, they say knowledgeable tourists. And yet it is unlikely that you will be able to see the fish at such a time.

Where can I eat?

As elsewhere in similar places, there are many cafes along the entire coastline. The cost of food is average for Phuket. Together you can have a good meal for about 150-200 baht (267-356 rubles). You can also have a snack on the beach with sweet corn, which can be cooked on the grill here.

Kamala Beach: which hotel to choose?

Although the infrastructure of Kamala Beach is far from ideal, as many believe, there are still plenty of hotels here. Particularly popular is Novotel, which locates its comfortable houses directly on the seashore.

The cost of a holiday here is not cheap: from 5,000 baht (890 rubles) per day. This is understandable: this price is justified by the location right next to the sea. There are also Andara Resort Villas, luxury villas whose prices start from 32,000 baht (RUB 56,960) per night!

There are also many small hotels and guest houses located on Kamala Beach. If you wish, you can stay in one of them.

For those who are planning a long vacation (2 months or more), it makes sense to rent a town house. It is a spacious lodge with many amenities, including a swimming pool. In Kamala, unlike Patong, where everything is more expensive, such housing, according to tourists, can be found for 20,000 baht (35,600 rubles) per month.

Enough wide choose accommodation is provided to vacationers by Kamala Beach. Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is one of the most popular hotels.

Kamala Beach in Phuket (Kamala Beach) the beach is very ambiguous for me; for more than a year I can’t decide whether I like it or not :) There are beaches that you fall in love with the first time - for me this best beaches Phuket Surin and , there are beaches that at first glance cause horror - for me these are Kata and Patong, and there are these average beaches that are sometimes very pleasing, and sometimes upsetting. In this article detailed description Kamala beach Phuket, sea, infrastructure, hotels on Kamala beach, photos, reviews.

Kamala Beach in Phuket is so different depending on the time of year, time of day, weather and my mood :)

Description of Kamala Beach

Kamala Beach is a long beach in a bay in the west of Phuket, located north of the popular Patong and south of the beloved. Between Patong and Kamala there is also Kalim Beach, which is not swimmable, and between Kamala and Surin, the passage to which is this moment It is closed by land and can only be reached by sea. Kamala Beach

As I already wrote, Kamala Beach is quite long, the length of the beach strip is about two kilometers. Conventionally, Kamala Beach can be divided into four parts (scheme map below):

  • South part– non-swimable part of the beach, shallow sea, boats, a stinking river flows nearby (number 1)
  • The central equipped part of the beach with all the necessary beach infrastructure and a small walking path near the sea (number 2)
  • The wild part of Kamala beach, which ends with a river (number 3)
  • The northernmost part of Kamala Beach, where the Café Del Mar Phuket beach club and the Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach hotel are located (number 4)

The schematic map schematically shows areas of Kamala Beach

All these parts of the beach differ from each other in the quality of the sand, the entry into the sea, the number of people, and the cleanliness.

Vegetation, shade, sand, sea

Gorgeous palm trees and spreading casuarinas (Thai “coniferous” trees with soft “needles”) grow along the entire beach strip, which create good shade in the first half of the day.

The beach has lush vegetation, many casuarinas
There are also plenty of palm trees in Kamala :)

The beach strip at high tide is not very wide, so it’s convenient to sunbathe in the shade under a tree, and then run briefly along the hot sand to cool off in the sea :)

The sand on Kamala Beach is grayish, fine, and in some places mixed with small stones. In the northern part near Novotel the sand is finer.

The sand in the northern part of the beach near the Novotel hotel is finer and whiter

The entry into the sea is very smooth, in the southern part of the beach the sea is very shallow, swimming is problematic, in the central part the sea is deeper, but at low tide it also becomes shallow. The entrance to the water is without large stones and corals, but here and there there are small pebbles in the water.

Low tide on the beach
Despite the fact that at low tide the sea goes far away, swimming in the sea in the central part of the beach is still comfortable

The color of sea water depends greatly on the time of day and the presence of sun. In the first half of the day in sunny weather, the sea is bright turquoise, but in the evening it is gray... The water in the sea is not as pleasant and gentle as on Surin or Kata Noi, and because of the gray sand at the bottom it does not seem very clean, although in fact it is not this way. In general, the sea on Kamala is similar to the sea on Samui or, i.e. not perfectly transparent!

Or something like this. Second half of the day, the dim sun is shining from the sea

In summer, Kamala Beach, like most beaches in Phuket, has strong waves; in the off-season (autumn and spring) the waves are small and very pleasant; in winter, Kamala is usually calm.

Purity

Unfortunately, the Kamala Beach beach is not very clean. The sections of the beach only opposite the hotels are well cleaned, namely the northernmost part of the beach near Novotel and the central part opposite the Kamala Beach Resort (A Sunprime Resort) hotel.

Due to the fact that there are a lot of casuarinas growing on the beach, “needles” from them remain on the sand, there are a lot of leaves on the sand that no one removes. In the wild part Kamala beach Beach has a lot of garbage, several times we even saw foreigners coming with large garbage bags and cleaning up a small section of the beach.

The beach cannot boast of ideal cleanliness; there is quite a lot of natural debris

Kamala Beach infrastructure

Now sunbeds have been returned to some Phuket beaches, which by law must occupy no more than 10% of the beach strip: not all beaches have them, but on Kamala Beach there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, the cost for two sunbeds and an umbrella is 200 baht per day.

The beds are waiting for tourists :)

There are also paid toilets and showers on the beach, which I saw in those places (I’ll mark them on the map at the bottom of the article):

  • In the northern part of the beach near the river
  • In the Nanork Seafood cafe, which is located on the path between the developed and wild parts of the beach, where everyone parks their vehicles (only the shower here is a hose and a barrel of fresh water 🙂)
  • In the central part of the beach, where the row of cafes along the sea ends and the row of shops begins (the shower is normal, there is even shower gel :)

Toilet 10 baht, shower 20 baht. You can also try to rinse off in the shower for free on the premises of the Sunprime Resort hotel.

On the shore you can get a massage, either on mattresses on the sand or in a massage parlor near the shore. Prices for Kamala massage in the photo below:

Along almost the entire coastline there is a concrete footpath, covered in sand here and there. In the central part of the beach, on one side of it there are cafes and even several hotels on the first line, and on the other, the beach itself and the sea. It’s very pleasant to sit in a cafe almost on the very seashore: unfortunately, such cafes that are located right next to the beach strip can rarely be found in Phuket. In the “wild” no-man’s-land of the beach, on one side of the path there is a concrete fence, and on the other the beach itself: it’s convenient to drive up on a bike and park right next to the place where you are lying :)

Prices for Kamala in cafes along the beach are standard, the average cost of dinner is 400 - 500 baht for two.

At the northern end of Kamala Beach is the popular beach club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which hosts brunch on Sundays and parties in the evenings.

Contingent and number of people on the beach

A year ago, Kamala Beach, especially its wild part, was almost empty. In the same season, there is simply an invasion of tourists throughout Phuket (they say that the last time such a full house of vacationers in Thailand was in the 2012-2013 season, just when we wintered for the first time)!

There are a lot of foreign pensioners, Germans, Scandinavians. But there are also enough Russian speakers for Kamala Beach. This beach is often chosen for families with children; many families with strollers walk along the path along the sea or along the surf line during low tide.

Local newlyweds love to come to Kamala for a wedding photo shoot; we have already seen photo shoots on the beach more than once :)

Infrastructure of the Kamala region

The infrastructure of the Kamala region is very well developed. The main road runs approximately 350 m from the beach. There is a large Big C supermarket, many 7 Elevens, Family mart, other shops, banks, cafes, restaurants, certain time Makashnitsa are laid out along the road.

In addition to the pedestrian path with a cafe along the sea on Kamala, there are also several small tourist streets with cafes, restaurants, massage parlors where you can stroll in the evening. These streets reminded me of the main street on Koh Samui.

In the central part, near the embankment, there is a small park with a children's playground and a monument to the victims of the tsunami.

Several times a week, Kamala hosts a sort of Walking Street or, simply put, Night Market, where they sell Thai food, some clothes, and some souvenirs. Despite the fact that the markets are called night, they are open from lunch until approximately 19:00 - 20:00.

Markets on Kamala Beach:

  • The Wednesday and Saturday market is located across the street from Big S. Coordinates: 7.946059, 98.279853
  • The market on Mondays and Fridays is here: 7.953813, 98.286008, across the street from the park with the Fantasia show.

Entertainment and attractions

On the Kamala beach itself you can rent a jet ski, ride on the sea on a “banana” or “cheesecake”, rent a SUP board, and in the northern part near the Novotel hotel they rent kayaks.

On Kamala, in the southernmost part there is the Buddhist temple Wat Kamala, and in the center there is a mosque.

There is a big one here theme park and the show Fantasia (Phuket FantaSea).
