A trekking tour across Europe is an excellent option that will provide both vivid impressions and delight with the beauty of wild and not so nature, and at the same time will allow you to relax. You don't have to be an athlete to do this, because trekking in Europe is available to almost any tourist. But our mini cheat sheet will help you choose the best route:

1. Sentiero Azzurro (Azure Trail), Cinque Terre, Italy

Perhaps one of the easiest and most comfortable routes, which is suitable even for tourists with children: all the way along the "civilized" coast, if you get tired (or if the children are tired), you can take a train at any time to return home.

1 /1

The length of the route is 12 kilometers, the start is in the town of Riomaggiore, and the finish is in Monterosso. The Blue Trail winds along the coastline, crossing towns and cities such as Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. There are several ups and downs on the way, but in general the road is very simple, any more or less trained person can handle it. The route is also good in that you can stop in each of the cities along the way for as long as you want to explore it better, or move away from the main route and climb up the slopes to be in silence.

You can pass Sentiero Azzurro at any time of the year, but we would recommend autumn or, in extreme cases, spring - there are a minimum of tourists and not as hot as in summer.

Hint: the most difficult part of the route is at Monterosso, so it makes sense to save some strength at the end of the path for the "final throw". Alternatively, you can split the hike into two stages and take a break in Corniglia, which is right in the middle of the route.

You can get to the starting point of the journey - Riomaggiore - from Milan, Bologna, Florence or other nearby cities in Italy by train.

It is best to go here either in June or September. Firstly, the influx of trackers is much lower than in July-August. True, there will also be fewer working hotels at this time. Secondly, comfortable weather conditions, thanks to which even beginners can feel quite confident on the route. But from October to May, weather conditions worsen. In winter it is completely snowy here, and even in May there is an abundance of snow on the passes, which requires certain skills from travelers. In addition, not all passes are safe, so it is advisable to have some experience when going on a hike.

The route starts in Calenzana in the north of the island, 12 km from the town of Calvi, and in Konka (in the south). The entire path can be walked in any direction, but it will be easier to do it from south to north. If you are not going to walk the entire route, there are numerous exits all along the trail, so you can find the optimal length of the journey for yourself. Or you can, following the example of many European tourists, walk only half the way to Vizavona, and from there continue your journey around the island by train.

You will have to get to your destination (Kalenzany) with transfers, since there is no direct flight between Ukraine and Corsica. The most convenient way is to choose a flight from Kiev to or, and from there by ferry to Corsica. You can learn more about ferry transportation from France.

3. Leygavegur route (Fimmvurduhauls pass), Iceland

The entire round trip is 80 kilometers long. There are cabins along the entire route where travelers can relax (they are open from late June to mid-September). But for those who do not want to go through it all, there is an abbreviated option: to walk 20-25 kilometers along the Fimmvurduhauls pass, cross the Thorsmerk park and end the path at the Skogafoss waterfall. Everything about everything will take you one day.

Note: although the trail is located at a decent distance from the big cities, there are regular buses from Reykjavik to the beginning of the route - Landmannalaugar hut.

4. Way of Saint James / Way of the French Kings, Spain

This road is very well equipped with everything necessary for travelers, and on the way you regularly come across vacation homes where you can spend the night and have a snack. True, for untrained beginners, the route can be quite difficult. Therefore, for a start, many do not go all the way, but "join" the flow of pilgrims in one of its sections or choose one of the shortened routes. The most popular is the Route of the French Kings / French Route, which starts at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, passes through the Pyrenees and leads to Galicia (Spain) with stops in Leon and Pamplona.

1 /1

The best time for a hike is spring and autumn, when the heat subsides and there will be an order of magnitude less people on the route.

Note: if you are going to overcome this path not just as a tourist, but for religious reasons, you need to get a pilgrim's passport, which will allow you to pay less for accommodation and food on the road. This can be done at the starting point of the route at the dedicated pilgrim office.

You will have to get to the starting point - Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port - in stages: first from Kiev to Paris, and then you can take a train to Bayonne, and from there to the point of departure (the whole journey will take about 7.5 hours).

1 /1

The road runs from Minehead, Somerset to Poole Harbor, Dorset, for a total of 1,016 kilometers. The trail completely skirts the southwest coast of Great Britain, passing through the westernmost point of the island, and connects the cities of Minehead and Poole. The route also crosses the county of Cornwall, where you can admire the colorful landscapes. The path runs mainly along the coast, only occasionally going inland.

Travelers should remember about the main feature of the route - the bays . They come across on the way almost one after another, leading to a constant difference in altitude - frequent ascents and descents can lead to pain in the knees (especially for untrained tourists). Therefore, we advise you to stock up on pain relievers just in case. And, of course, the notorious English weather: changeable, with frequent rains and strong winds. So a raincoat, warm clothes and a windproof jacket will come in handy.

To get to the starting point of the route - the city of Minehead - from Ukraine, it is most convenient to fly from Kiev to Bristol, and from there from Bristol Temple Meads station (by bus with a change in Taunton) to Minehead.

6. Tour of Mont Blanc (Italy, Switzerland, France)

This hike is universal in that it passes through the territory of three states at once:, and. Only here you will have the opportunity to enjoy the views of the highest mountain range in Europe with glaciers, rocks, green pastures and steppes.

1 /1

The hike around Mont Blanc begins in Valle d'Aosta, and on the way you will descend to Lake Combal, through high-altitude pastures with stunning views, to Lake Checruit and beyond, to the bottom of the valley, to Dologne and Courmayeur.

It is better to go to conquer Mont Blanc between June 15 and mid-September. Of course, you can do this sooner or later, but keep in mind that then almost all mountain shelters may be closed, well, do not forget about the unpredictability of the weather.

The traditional route starts and ends in Les Houches and is about 170 kilometers long and takes 7-11 days to complete. You will have to get to Les Houches by car, since the commune is quite far from large cities. The fastest option is to fly from Kiev to or Bern, and from there - by car to the starting point of the route.

The easiest way to get to Tatranska Lomnica is by plane from Kiev to Kosice, and from there - by car to your destination.

How to prepare for trekking?

Tracking can be very different in complexity, and in some of the routes we have proposed (for example, the Way of St. James or the Cinque Terre), you can always stay for the night or get there by transport if you wish. At the same time, even for the lightest option, good physical shape will not hurt - it will be easier to walk, and you can enjoy the tracking itself. Therefore, study the complexity of the chosen route, evaluate your strength and heed the advice of experienced travelers.

Your main goal is to strengthen your legs and build endurance. Pay special attention to cardio training. Talk to your trainer about which leg exercises are most effective for strengthening your muscles. Running well develops endurance, especially on rough terrain. This not only strengthens the muscles, but also develops an addiction to the unevenness of the soil, reducing the chances of injury. For those who work out in the gym, we advise you to pay attention also to the step trainer. And on the treadmill, alternate between running and walking, change the speed and incline.

Be sure to take care of your own first aid kit. If you usually take a minimum of medications, then this time bring more plasters, tourniquets, ointment for injuries and other remedies that are used for bruises, abrasions and sprains.

Don't forget to take out travel insurance - this is a must if you choose an active holiday. Even if you accidentally slip and twist your leg, you may need to consult a doctor abroad - it is possible that such a consultation will cost you more than one hundred euros. And having insurance is a guarantee that all the money spent will be reimbursed to you upon your return home.

The cost of a basic travel policy from IC AXA Insurance is UAH 148 for 7 days.

  • mass character;
  • in most cases - no need for special sports training (it is enough just to be in good physical shape and have the endurance required for the level of complexity of the route);

Hiking: tourism from "A" to "Z"

What you need to know for a hiker:

  • each hike has its own difficulty level. In sports tourism, tracking is classified according to 9 difficulty levels. The assignment of a route to one or another category of complexity depends on the presence of local obstacles, geographical features, the intensity of the route, its length and duration in time;
  • hiking in the mountains requires special physical training, since an unprepared body may inadequately respond to high mountain conditions, which require adaptation even for experienced tourists;
  • hiking tours require special hiking clothing, footwear and equipment. All of the above is selected based on the climatic conditions of the active tour and the characteristics of the area;
  • any ailment should be the reason for refusing to travel, as in the conditions of a hiking trip, the ailment can worsen. In field conditions, your illness can become an obstacle not only in your path, but also disrupt the plans of the group members;

  • when going on hiking trips, carefully study the safety rules and strictly adhere to them in the field.

Hiking tours from the "Direction" club: exotic distant wanderings and unexplored hinterlands of Russia.

Walking tours are good because they practically do not limit participants in choosing travel directions. In almost any country, on any continent, you will find active tours that include a walking part of the route.

What to choose? Close, but not always well-studied Russia (the proximity of some of its regions, traditional for sports tourism, is also very relative) or distant exotic countries? Each tourist trip has its own charm, and our planet is so large and diverse that you can study it all your life.

Tourism club "Direction" offers you author's tours to the most interesting places of the earth, including Russia, countries of far and near abroad, quite "civilized" Europe and unexplored Africa. ...

Trekking trips are included in most of our tours, including short and long routes.

Hiking in Russia and CIS countries

Russia is a country of endless opportunities for active tourism. Plains, lakes, mountains, volcanoes, hills - you will find all this on the map of our country, and any exotic state will envy such natural beauties that nature has so generously endowed us with. Having not had the opportunity to travel abroad for a long time, when it appeared, we rushed together to explore the distant shores, forgetting about the tourist opportunities of our country.

Fortunately, in recent years the situation has improved, and such "pearls" of our nature as Baikal, Khibiny, Chuyskie Alps, Kamchatka volcanoes (not all of them) have become a place of pilgrimage not only for Russian, but also for foreign tourists.

Active tours, the routes of which are offered by the "Direction" club, include hiking in Kamchatka, Altai, Baikal, Transbaikalia, the Kola Peninsula and many others. Some of them can be mastered by beginners with the appropriate physical condition, while others are intended for travelers with experience in hiking and mountain climbing. When studying the routes of our author's tours, pay attention to the information about the required level of training of their participants.

Our neighbors also have something to see - in Armenia, Abkhazia, Kyrgyzstan and Crimea.

Each active tour is worked out by the instructor for the optimal choice of the route, timing, overnight places, etc.

European hiking trails

Europe is a many-sided continent with a variety of landscape, climatic zones and natural conditions. Despite the high population density, Europe has a huge number of protected areas, striking in their untouched beauty (the main thing is to know where to look).

Ecotourism, which is gaining more and more popularity in Europe, attracts new supporters of active hiking or trekking, opening up new routes and countries. Some of the more popular hiking destinations include:

  • travel through the alpine mountains and foothills, far from the traditional ski trails;
  • ecotours to Montenegro, Greece, Romania, Spain;
  • the most interesting hiking tours in Scandinavia, Cyprus, Crete, Tenerife, etc.

Unusual tours for exotic lovers

For those for whom the concept of active tourism is inextricably linked with the exoticism of distant wanderings, we propose to test their strength in difficult but interesting routes in Africa (with the conquest of the Marumukutru volcano), exciting mountain hikes to the peaks of Elbrus and the Legendary Mount Ararat, and much more.

When choosing hiking trips on difficult routes, always assess your strength realistically and follow the advice of our instructors, and then all your goals will be successfully achieved and the roads conquered.

Despite the constantly growing number of cars on the roads, flights, sea cruises, hiking tours remain popular among travelers. This is a type of sports tourism and a great opportunity to travel the world.

Currently, hiking is developed throughout the mainland of the Earth, and even in Antarctica. But it is most popular in Europe, the Himalayas and North America. And if people travel around Europe and America, first of all, to see new places, then climbing Chomolungma (the top of the Himalayas) is far from an easy walk. Hiking in the Himalayas helps people challenge themselves, overcome difficult climbs and enjoy stunning views.

Benefits of hiking

Affordable price... By traveling on foot, you save impressive travel expenses. In addition, you can sleep in a tent in the open air, eat in non-touristy places - a great opportunity to see the world literally for a penny.

  • Do not miss:

Cognition... To get to know the spirit of a city or country, it is not enough to see their main attractions. After all, the main flavor is in residential areas, in bazaars, in cafes and restaurants where local residents eat. You can go off the hiking trails and admire the area in its true form, observe nature, and relax with your soul.

freedom of choice... Hiking does not tie you to the schedule of airplanes, trains, or trains. You can change your route at any time, linger in places you like, visit attractions that were not included in the original plan.

Simplicity... Hiking is easier in many ways than other types of travel. So, crossing the border on foot is much faster than by car. And, living in a tent, you do not have to leave it at 12 noon, like a hotel room.

Disadvantages of hiking

Lack of comfort... Of course, it is more comfortable to travel in the seat of an airplane or in a car than "on foot." And a hotel room, whatever one may say, is more comfortable than a tent. But if you are not fussy about the amenities, this is not a problem at all.

Physical training... Hiking requires a certain level of physical fitness. Those who lead a sedentary lifestyle, move little and practically do not run, will get tired on the very first day.

Binding to weather conditions... Every tourist wants to be warm and sunny during his trip. But, if rain is even more or less acceptable for car and bus tours, then a few hours on foot in the cold and in the pouring rain is a very dubious pleasure.

  • It is interesting:

Despite the disadvantages, hiking tours are a healthy lifestyle and a unique opportunity to see the most interesting places on our planet, while spending very little money.

Why do we recommend the reference types of tourism? First, as you know, mountaineering is a school of courage, and tourism is a school of marriage. On a tourist trip, against the background of some difficulties and isolation from the usual way of life, the girl sees her chosen one "through and through." The poet said: "Take the guy to the mountains, take a chance, there you will understand who he is."

Second: the representatives of the stronger sex are given the opportunity to show themselves as a real man. Third: two days spent on the beach are difficult to distinguish from each other, and two trips to the sea, in different years, are not much different. During the hike, all days are completely different, full of many events and impressions.

People who have been on a hike only once in their life remember each day of it separately as the best moments of their life. And finally: communication with the divine beauty of nature is just wonderful!

"In the home sofa and armchair, fatigue from the bustle, from the artificial image of forests, mountains and rivers accumulates, there is no that acuteness and real feeling of living nature, when with all your being you feel its fertile energy, the scent of a coniferous forest, the tenderness and warmth of the gentle sun, shady the coolness of the mountain river, when the mountains live with you, when the dangers of the mountains lie in wait for you at every step, disturb the soul and excite the blood when they are visible and real. and icefalls is a state of real life, energy, romance of that beautiful time, which remains in the memory for a lifetime, and which we call youth.
