The Nai Harn beach area is one of the most comfortable for long stays or short holidays in Phuket.

I can make this statement from my own experience living on the island and the opinion of the majority of Russian and English-speaking families living here.

Of course, when we say Naiharn area, we mean the Rawai area and the proximity to Naiharn Beach. The closer to Naiharn beach you live, the bolder you can say that, “I live in the Nai Harn area.” If it is 5-10 minutes drive from the beach, then most likely you live in the Rawai area. But in principle, this is one large district of Rawai-Nai Harn.

Why is it so attractive to tourists?

First of all, this area is the most balanced. There is one of the most clean beaches Phuket - Nai Harn.

This is the most calm, without big waves, with a gentle entrance to the water beach.

For this reason, it is loved and chosen for their vacation by families with children of any age, elderly people and everyone who likes to swim calmly. At the same time, clean, transparent, azure sea water completes the picture.

Also in the middle of the beach, there is a separate, shallow mini lake with sea water, where families with very young children prefer to relax. Also, next to the beach there is a children's playroom playground with slides and swings.

There is a developed infrastructure near the beach and throughout the area: large and small grocery stores (Tesco Lotus, 7/11, etc.), a wide variety of cafes and restaurants (Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Russian, Italian, French cuisine). An abundance of massage parlors and beauty salons.

Bars and restaurants, of course, there are not as many of them as in Patong, but they exist. On the beaches of Kamala and Bangtao at 22:00 everything is quiet and immersed in sleep; fortunately, this cannot be said about Rawai-Nai Harn. But the whole party is much calmer, there are many quiet areas, music from bars and clubs does not disturb others.

The area is very well located: Phuket Town with its large shops, shopping centers (Festival Center, Big C, Tesco Lotus) 30 minutes drive, Kata, Karon 20 minutes, Patong 50 minutes. Getting to the airport takes 60 minutes. It is also important that all the best hospitals to which they are sent Russian tourists are located in Phuket town, they are also easily accessible from this area.

This area has recently been the most in demand, it is believed that it is a holiday destination for wealthy people, the most balanced area in terms of infrastructure and cost (without much pathos like, for example, Laguna), as well as with a good, uncrowded and, without tourists on vacation packages, beach. The place is most isolated from the so-called “Tagil”.

Who is he, a tourist on NaiHarn beach?

The area is attractive to all ages.

The majority of tourists prefer a balanced holiday, which is why the area is popular. Typically, families with children, large groups of friends, and couples for a romantic or honeymoon choose this place for their vacation.

Also, there are many who live for a long period of 6-12 months, or who like to “winter”, spending 3 winter months in sunny Thailand.

Where do people usually stay on Nai Harn?

Preference is usually given to one-bedroom bungalows on the beach for couples. Families of 3-4 people rent two-bedroom houses/villas with a private or communal pool. Also popular are 3, 4, 5 bedroom villas for large groups of friends or several families.

Nai Harn Beach is significantly different from the popular Karon and Patong. The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning this beach is serenity, silence, relaxation. The beach is located in the very south of Phuket, 20 km from Patong and 53 km from the airport. The beach is surrounded on both sides by hills covered with jungle thickets. The beach itself is a strip of snow-white sand, stretching into the warm, gentle waters of the Andaman Sea. This beach is popular among local residents who love to have picnics here under the shade of pine trees. Families with children gather in the eastern part of the beach, where there is a safe shallow pond for children to swim. During the high tide season, the bay is filled with snow-white yachts. On the western part of the beach there is a yacht club and a luxurious The hotel Royal Phuket Yacht Club. There are shops and restaurants all along the coast. 300m from the sea, in the depths of the beach, where the most respectable houses are concentrated, there is a freshwater lake with a shady island in the middle, on which a children's playground and fitness area are built. To the east of the beach is Promthep Cape, which offers stunning views of the sea. Many people come here every evening to admire the sunset. Another attraction of this place is the recently built windmill. Nai Harn Beach is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful places islands. P.S. This is where the head of this project rents a villa when he lives in Phuket.

Nai Harn Beach is the largest swimmable beach in the south of Phuket. Many call it the best and most picturesque beach on the island. And, although this opinion is completely subjective, I am inclined to agree with it. 🙂 What did Nai Harn do to deserve this title? — I’ll try to tell you in the article itself.

Also below I will tell you where the beach is, how to get to Nai Harn, I will provide an overview of its seasoned infrastructure beautiful photos, including exclusive photos of Nai Harn from a bird's eye view, and much more.

By the way, subscribe on my Instagram. I promptly post it there the best photos and stories from my travels. 🙂

Nai Harn Beach on the map of Phuket

Nai Harn is located in the Rawai area on the west coast of Phuket, almost in its southernmost part, a little before reaching. The beach is sandwiched in a lagoon between two capes, and is washed by the warm waters of the Andaman Sea.

How to get to Nai Harn

We will consider all possible options so that you can choose for yourself the most adequate one in terms of price and effort/time spent.

To Nai Harn by bus

Because Municipal transport in Phuket is frankly in its infancy; don’t even hope that you can get to Nai Harn from anywhere on the island without any problems. 🙂 Buses to Nai Harn only run from Phuket Town at a price of 30-40 baht. Buses run every 20-30 minutes strictly from 6:00 to 17:00-18:00. Focus on the blue coloring of the body; it is difficult to confuse them with anything else. When you see a bus, feel free to raise your hand, the driver will stop even if you are not standing at the bus stop. There are no route numbers on the buses, only an indication of the end points of the route, in our case it will be “Phuket Town - Nai Harn”.

For all other options, the remaining options are either a personal transfer or car or bike rental.

To Nai Harn by car or bike

The distance from the airport to the beach is about 60 kilometers, so due to traffic jams, even by car in the daytime it will take you at least an hour and a half. Before your trip, it is best to download some kind of mapping application that works in offline mode - for example Maps.Me. Generally, most of The road will be quite simple - you need to follow the main highway to the south, through the beaches, and, but further, when you get to the Rawai area, you may get a little lost. Follow the sign indicating the direction to Promthep Cape, and when you get to Lake Nai Harn the beach is within easy reach, just go around the lake and the beach will be in front of you.

Review of Nai Harn Beach from Travel or Die

1. The first thing that will greet you upon arrival is a small casuarina coniferous grove that forms The Nai Harn Park, in the shadow of which there is a bike parking lot. Parking a car is a little more difficult, there is not much space, but overall you can fit in.

2. The sand that covers the beach is very pleasant, fine and has a yellowish-beige tint. The water is clean - green-blue and very transparent.

3. The number of people on Nai Harn directly depends on what season you come. In the low season, from May to August, there is practically no one here, the sea is very exciting and large waves roll onto the beach. But already from September the weather improves, and the sea calms down around December, the number of tourists gradually increases and reaches a peak in January. This photo Nai Harn taken in November, as you can see, there are not so many people, although you can already swim.

5. The photo from the drone also shows that there are a minimum number of people.

6. And this photo was taken just a month later - this is what it looks like Nai Harn in December. There are quite a lot of people, but you can always find a place, there is enough space for everyone.

8. Sun loungers on the beach are located in two places, evenly distributed along the beach.

9. They are in demand because There is practically no shadow on the beaches, only along the edges of the beach. Single vacationers are also located under the trees behind the line of sunbeds, but it’s a bit far from there to the shore, and there’s no view of the sea, due to the concrete fence, so no one lies there en masse.

10. To sit comfortably in the shade under an umbrella costs 100 baht per person per day.

11. On Naiharn there is an open-air Thai massage, familiar to the beaches of Phuket.

12. The only drawback of Nai Harn, in my opinion, is the lack of free toilets and only one place where you can rinse off after swimming. Moreover, this is not even a shower, but a kind of Greek bowl with a ladle. 🙂 You can find it at the end of the western part of the beach, next to the passage to the Nai Harn hotel. There is only one paid toilet and shower, and even that is not very hygienic.

13. On each big beach Phuket always has a kind of stinking river that flows through the beach and carries wastewater into the sea. But Nai Harn doesn’t have it! 🙂 What you see in the photo is just a natural outflow of Lake Nai Harn adjacent to the beach. The water here is clean and even local children enjoy swimming in this mini-river.

14. There are always fewer people behind the river than in the central part.

16. This is Lake Nai Harn. There are walking paths around the lake, where you can take an evening walk or go for a run. Wat Nai-Harn can be seen on the left.

17. From the south, the beach is bordered by lush tropical vegetation. You can also snorkel here—there are a lot of cute fish swimming near the rocks.

18. There are palm trees and pandan trees. In the photo I’m just trying to pick a fruit from one of them.

19. The pointed stone beak of this stone ridge perfectly follows the profile of my nose. 😀

20. In general, it’s beautiful.

21. But the large white windmill that rises on the hill southeast of the beach adds a special charm to the beach. A kind of calling card, thanks to which it cannot be confused with any other beach on the island.

22. Next to the windmill is Observation deck Windmill Viewpoint, past which the road to Yanui beach and further to .

23. Along with Promthep, Windmill is one of the best viewpoints in Phuket for watching the sunset.

24. However, the sunsets on the beach itself are impressive; the sun sets exactly in the center of the bay.

25. On the left you can see the outline of the island of Ko Man. It is uninhabited, but you can go snorkeling there by kayak from Yanui Beach.

26. What’s nice is that there are no parking lots for boats on the beach, like on the same beach, no one is noisily cutting through the surface of the water on bananas, and parasailing enthusiasts are not soaring in the sky. There are only a few private yachts and catamarans in the water area, which do not interfere with the recreation of mere mortals.

27. On the hill behind the beach there is a local stadium. Overall, nothing interesting, but from above in the dark it looks interesting. 🙂

29. Nai Harn is approximately 650 meters long - a good length so that when you arrive and leave your bike in one part of the beach, you won’t be lazy and walk to the very end if you need to find a more secluded place.

Low tides and waves on Nai Harn

30. The width of the beach is about 50 meters. At low tides it increases somewhat, but in general, although the low tides are felt here, you can still swim with them without any problems.

31. So-called rip currents or rip currents are periodically observed on Nai Harn. When swimming, especially in the low season, from May to October, be careful and pay attention to the flags installed along the shore indicating where you can swim. But in general, in the low season, swimming here can even be dangerous due to large waves - people surf here because... the waves reach human height.

32. Otherwise, from November to April the beach is suitable for swimming for people of all ages - the entry into the water is very gentle, there are no sharp cliffs, like on Karon, so you can swim with children without any problems.

Beach infrastructure

The infrastructure of the beach is rather poorly equipped, the toilet is only paid - 10 baht, and even that, as they say, does not quite meet hygiene standards. 🙂 Otherwise, the minimum set of cafes that most tourists need, including even establishments with Russian cuisine, and shops with related goods, are presented here along the access road and on the second line, behind the parking lot. If you need to buy food for a picnic somewhere, then you will need to stop at any Tesco Lotus or Seven Eleven on the way to the beach - they will be both from the Rawai side and in the village, which you will definitely pass through on the road from the side Patong.

33. The only water activities available on the beach are the rental of kayaks and paddleboards.

Review and rating of Nai Harn beach from Travel or Die

I repeat once again - for me, as well as for many others who have seen most of the beaches of Phuket, Nai Harn is best beach islands. It is hardly suitable for lovers of active pastime - there are no water activities, nightlife, and in general the movement is a little tight. But even during the peak season, the beach is moderately busy, there are no cars and bikes scurrying along the road every minute, like in Karon or Patong, there are always beautiful sunsets and in general some kind of elusive vibe that is not found on more popular beaches west coast, which differ in many respects only in size and do not have any bright visual features of their own. Nai Harn pleasantly stands out against their background with its snow-white windmill in the south and the beautiful snow-white resort The Nai Harn in the north.

Nai Harn score: 9,5/10.

Excursions from Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn does not offer excursion services as widely as other Phuket beaches. There are few agencies where you can buy tours around the island, especially Russian-speaking ones, so I advise you to use reliable ones online services, whose services he resorted to while living next door on Chalong:

  • . All of their excursions can be purchased online, but if necessary, the manager will come to any place convenient for you. While I lived in Phuket, I only used their services and they never let me down. I went with them to Surin, Similan, Khao Lak, rode ATVs and everything else I did. 🙂
  • . This is a cool service individual excursions. In Phuket, I have not yet resorted to their services, because... during my visit they had very few offers, but I tested their service more than once in other cities of Russia and abroad and I can be sure that in Phuket they now conduct excellent excursions.

The advantage of these portals is that you can choose the tour you need from home in a calm environment, without fuss, and pay for it online in rubles, avoiding running around and searching for an agency with decent service upon arrival in Phuket.

Where to stay on Nai Harn: hotels, villas and apartments

If you decide to spend your holiday on Nai Harn beach and are thinking about which hotel to choose, then I recommend that you read our article, where we have collected best hotels on the beach in various price categories.

By the way, for booking, I recommend using the Agoda service, which, firstly, has a large database of hotels and villas in Phuket, compared to the usual Booking, and also in 99% of cases offers better prices. I checked it personally several times, but I advise you to compare. If we talk about reliability, then they and Booking are absolutely equivalent because... belong to the same holding and their quality standards are the same. 🙂

Well, to rent apartments on Nai Harn and throughout the island, it is best to use the AirBnB service - the most popular site in the field of booking private housing. Using the link you can get a discount of about $20 on your first booking.

35. Scenic road leading to Ao San from Nai Harn.

Beautiful photos of Nai Harn beach

The search for housing in Phuket turned out to be the longest during all our travels. All because we arrived on the island in November and wanted to live near the sea. Usually all winterers rent houses and apartments in the center of the island in the areas of Chalong, Phuket Town and Kathu. We decided to try our luck and find an apartment by the sea.

Condo in Phuket

Renting housing in Phuket: our experience

First we arrived in Phuket town and rented a hotel room for a day. On the same day we started looking for a condo. Readers recommended the Kathu area, and we went there first.

Kathu is located between town and Patong, not to be confused with Kata Beach. They didn’t take the motorbike again, having seen enough of the Phuket traffic. We took the Town - Kathu bus. The fare is 25 baht per person. The route was tracked using GPS.

We realized that living on Katu without a bike is not an option. Better near the beach or at least in the town.

Features of renting an apartment in Phuket

  • Prices vary greatly depending on the season. In the low season, you can rent an apartment in a condo in Phuket near the sea for 10-15 thousand baht per month. From November to March, all housing by the sea becomes 2-3 times more expensive.
  • Rent an apartment in Phuket without intermediaries near any beach costs at least 25 thousand baht ($700) per month in high season. There will be no haggling, but in the summer there are chances to move in cheaper.
  • The cost of renting an apartment in Kathu, Chalong and Phuket Town does not depend on the season. Therefore, even in December you can find housing here in the center of the island at a normal price (up to 15 thousand baht).
  • There are almost no condominiums on the beaches. But the situation is changing, construction is actively underway.
  • Hotels often masquerade as condos in appearance. How many times has it happened that we walk into a typical-looking air conditioner, and above the reception there is the sign “Beach Resort”. Especially common in Patong.
  • Most condominiums do not have internet. At best in the lobby. You'll have to do it yourself (the reception staff will help) or buy cards for 300 baht per device.
  • About half of the condos we looked at ask for a 2-3 month deposit
  • When renting for a long period, from 6 to 12 months, the price will be 30-50% lower than when moving in for a month.

Our housing requirements

  • Cost up to 15 thousand baht per month, utilities at government rates
  • Modern condominium, preferably new
  • Clean and tidy room
  • Kitchen with stove
  • Internet
  • Balcony
  • Swimming pool is a must
  • Walking distance to shops and beach buses

What we always ask when renting a home

  1. Cost per month and the opportunity to get a discount if you rent for several months
  2. The amount of the deposit and how it will be returned
  3. Electricity and water prices. The government price for electricity is 4 baht/unit. Some air conditioners get impudent and increase the price to 8-10 baht.
  4. Availability of the Internet (in extreme cases, you can do it yourself if you’re renting for a long time)
  5. Clarify whether there will be an agreement (contract)

Which websites to look for an apartment on?

The most convenient way to find an apartment in Phuket online is on the Booking, Homeaway or Airbnb websites. Use the following links to view all apartment offers:

Booking.com - daily up to 1 month
Airbnb.com - daily or monthly

Attention! Do not transfer your money to any “helpers” who offer to help you with renting housing on the Internet (Vkotakte, Odnoklassniki, Facebook, etc.). Even if they send you a scan of your passport. There are a lot of scams when money is sent and the person immediately disappears with it. Use only proven, reliable sites! Or go without a reservation and look for accommodation on your own.

Phuket districts on the map

The map shows the main beaches and areas of the island. The entire left side is the main beaches suitable for swimming; the right side does not have normal beaches, but in any season there is housing for adequate money. But you will have to get to the beaches on your own or public transport from 20 minutes to an hour.

The nice condotel- a new condo, located almost opposite Tesco Bangtao. In high season, renting an apartment will cost 35 thousand baht. The sea is about 30-40 minutes walk or 10 minutes drive. Coordinates: 7.984591, 98.302985
Hill Myna Condo— the condo is located next door to the Nice Condotel. Also new, but more expensive. In high season up to 50 thousand baht per month. When renting for a year, 30 thousand baht per month. GPS coordinates: 7.984141, 98.302800
Imperial Ocean Palms Service Apartment— the condominium is located away from the main road. 10 minutes walk to the beach without sidewalk. We went in to ask for prices, sat for 10 minutes, but no one speaking English showed up. 7.992090, 98.298375

These options are not suitable for very budget accommodation; it is better to rent a house. Renting a house in Bangtao costs 2-3 times cheaper.

Condo in Surin

The Surin area has a great beach and expensive housing. There are practically no condos in Surin; there are mostly hotels near the sea. But we found several housing options deeper in the town. Prices are high. Perhaps cheaper in low season.

Condominiums in Kathu

Overall the Kathu area is not bad. Large Tesco, Big C and Macro stores are accessible within a 10-minute bike ride. There are several local markets with normal prices that are open on certain days of the week, and there are 7-Elevens. Beautiful mountains. But living in Kathu is inconvenient without your own transport. Since there is nowhere to go in the evening and to get to the sea by bus. The nearest beach is Patong, which can be reached directly in 20-25 minutes.

Dcondo- a large modern condominium in Kathu, popular with winter residents. Great pool and small gym. Apartments with kitchen 1-bedroom/2-bedroom from 10 thousand baht per month, deposit 2 months. No Internet. Nearby 7-Eleven and Family mart. Without your own transport, you can get to Patong Beach by bus with a transfer.
The Royal Place Condominium- another good large condo in Kathu. Not new, but good condition. We were shown several apartments from 10 to 12 thousand baht per month. There are no studios, only one and two bedroom apartments. There is a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave, but not always with a stove. There is a small swimming pool in the yard. Across the road is Tesco Lotus. To get to the beaches of Karon, Kata and Patong, you need to change trains near the Central Festival.
Plus Condominium— 2 condos with the same name. Plus condo-1 is cheaper and without a pool - from 8 thousand baht. Plus 2 condos with a swimming pool, prices from 14 thousand baht. Great view of the mountains. The nearest beach is Patong, 20 minutes by direct bus. To other beaches with a transfer in Town.
Istay Phuket The Scene Condo— the condo is located on the road from the town to Kata, not far from the Makro supermarket. Modern apartments with full kitchens are available. There is a swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. It takes 25 minutes to get to Patong Beach by direct bus.
The Base Uptown- a new condo in the large Tesco Lotus area. We offer apartments for rent with 1 and 2 bedrooms and a kitchen with stove. There is a swimming pool. You can get to the beaches by public transport with one change in the town.

Condo in Phuket Town

Phuket Town - optimal value for money. Renting an apartment in Phuket Town is the best price for money; the price does not depend on the season and proximity to the sea. You can rent an apartment with a kitchen and 1 or 2 bedrooms in a very decent condo with a pool and gym for 12 thousand baht per month. The longer the rental period, the cheaper the payment will be. Phuket town is a non-tourist city when compared to beach areas, so prices for everything will be lower. You will have to get to the beaches by bus or your own transport.

Centrio condominium- excellent new condominium with swimming pool and gym. Located in the area shopping center Festival. Within walking distance of Macro and Big C. Buses to all beaches pass nearby. We lived in this condo for six months.
The Square Condominium Phuket- inexpensive condominium with swimming pool and gym. The location is a little away from the center. The Festival shopping center is a 10-minute drive by car. Both studios and one-bedroom apartments are offered for rent.

Dusit Naka Place- a perfectly located complex, within walking distance of the Central Festival, Macro and Big Sea. The rooms have a sofa, bed, armchairs, wardrobe, mini-balcony. There is no kitchen. There is no pool. Rent per month is less than 10 thousand baht.
Sugar Palm Residence- a very decent condo with a pool in the center of the town. Nearby is a park with a pond. Large, spacious rooms with a full kitchen. Free Wi-Fi. Rent for a month from 20 thousand baht. You can rent a room for a day.

Apartments in Phuket we lived in

Here is just a small part of the housing in Phuket. We visited most of these places during our searches. The only area that was not considered was Chalong, since it is quite a village where the largest 7 Eleven store is.

Where did we end up settling? Reviews of our accommodation in Phuket:

  • Our first experience. We rented a hotel room for a month for 12 thousand baht. Then in December they raised the prices and we were forced to move.
