The first place in the list of the most dangerous places on Earth is occupied by Ukrainian Chernobyl - a small locality, which in 1986 went through the worst environmental disaster in human history. Even now, 31 years after the accident, the level of radiation in the Chernobyl zone is off the charts. The 30-kilometer zone around Pripyat remains uninhabited, people left there, and only a few returned, mostly representatives of the older generation who do not want to leave their homes. Today, the abandoned ghost town attracts tourists who dream of thrills, but tours to it are not cheap, very few organize them, and it is not known how legally they do it.

The Brazilian Snake Island, located in the Atlantic Ocean, is quite popular among those who want to tickle their nerves. As the eloquent name suggests, the peculiarity of a small piece of land in the boundless oceanic expanses is rightfully considered to be its inhabitants - snakes. According to experts, there are at least 6 reptiles per 1 square meter of land. It's like a natural serpentarium. It's a fun place, don't you think?

3

One of the most dangerous places in the territory Russian Federation They consider the so-called Mountain of the Dead, which has already been given the status of a paranormal zone. It is located in the northern part of the Urals and is famous for its unique and far from the most human-friendly properties. The number of researchers whose lives ended near the Mountain of the Dead amounts to several dozen. To this day, no one has understood the nature of the Dyatlov Pass, but the story of the death of the entire expedition of the scientist, whose name the mysterious area was subsequently named, is well remembered by everyone to this day.

4

The waters off the coast of California are literally teeming with white sharks, which is why the area is included in the TOP 10 most dangerous places on the planet. Cruel predators swim all the way to the shore, and if at that moment they meet someone on their way, this someone becomes lunch or dinner for fish that are not picky about food. However, even despite the high level of danger and the huge number of victims, the Californian coast is quite popular among surfers looking for the next dose of adrenaline.

5

Ethiopia is a rather dangerous place, although at first glance you wouldn’t say it – it’s very beautiful there! However, in summer the air temperature in the desert exceeds +50 degrees, and it is simply impossible to withstand such heat for more than a couple of minutes. In addition to the hot air above Danakil, there are many fumes that are lethal to humans, and earthquakes often occur there. One has to think that if hell exists on Earth, then it is located right here, in the Ethiopian desert.

6

The valley with an awesome name is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, in a nature reserve next to the Kikhpinych volcano. The place is very picturesque, but also dangerous. It is surrounded by poisonous gases that have taken the lives of many brave souls who approached the valley at a critical distance.

7

The mountain owes its name to the active volcano at its peak. Throughout its history, it has erupted more than a hundred times, every now and then claiming the lives of people living nearby. The last time the volcano woke up was in 2014, then the column of smoke above it reached 3 km in height, and the number of victims reached 2 hundred people.

8

We are talking about a winding serpentine road right above a sheer cliff, and even with a terrible road surface. It’s scary to even imagine how many lives this path has taken, however, there are regularly brave cyclists and motorists who, in pursuit of adrenaline, are not stopped by sharp turns, steep climbs, or narrow road surfaces. The road is in a deplorable state; in the 70s of the last century they tried to repair it, but at the second ten kilometers the repair equipment fell down and the workers died. No one else tried to restore the Road of Death.

9

This area is dangerous because of its windiness, it is impossible to be here - the strongest gusts of air literally knock you off your feet. The wind speed reaches one hundred meters per second, and in 1934 a record was recorded that remains unbroken to this day, then the wind blew at a speed of 370 meters per second. This is enough to leave no stone unturned from a fairly strong house, let alone climbers...

There are a wide variety of dangerous places on our planet, which have recently begun to attract a special category of extreme tourists looking for thrills in life. In such places they find what they are looking for first of all - a source of adrenaline. Visiting many of these places can pose a direct threat to health or life. Such exclusion zones can be a variety of places: cities, reservoirs, desert and mountainous areas, which have had a bad reputation for centuries.

1. Chernobyl and Pripyat (Ukraine)

On April 26, 1986, a terrible disaster occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Losing control of a modern nuclear reactor resulted in the release of tons of radioactive materials that mixed with dust, air and water, contaminating the area with radiation for hundreds of kilometers around. Due to untimely notification of the population, many people managed to become radioactively contaminated and began to get seriously ill and subsequently die. Little-known cities before this fateful day, leading a calm, measured lifestyle, became known throughout the world. Residents hastily left the cities, not having time to collect and take their belongings with them. This is how these deserted ghost towns stand now, in which it is impossible to stay for a long time without the risk of receiving a strong dose of radiation. And such a sad fate is destined for them for several more centuries, and perhaps thousands of years.

2. Snake Island Queimada Grande (Brazil)

The Brazilian island of Queimada Grande, located near the mainland in the waters Atlantic Ocean, not too hospitable. One of the subspecies of bothrops, one of the most poisonous snakes in the world, has settled on this island. Apart from snakes, there are no other animals on the island (which is understandable), and only migratory birds fly here, which are food for reptiles. Scientists have turned this island into a natural serpentarium, where they are trying to preserve this endemic species of bothrops. Ordinary people they are not allowed here, and there are hardly any among them who want to find painful and certain death here. Even the beacon installed here has been operating in automatic mode for some time now.

3. Danakil Desert (Ethiopia)

Despite the unique beautiful landscapes, the Ethiopian Danakil Desert is a very unforgiving place to live due to the peculiarities of the local climate. The temperature in these places often exceeds 50 degrees in the shade - it is impossible to breathe such hot air for a long time. In addition, the air contains a very high content of poisonous gases that pose a mortal danger to life. In addition, since this desert is located above the Arabian Rift, powerful earthquakes often occur here.

4. California coast (USA)

The entire California coast is a fairly dangerous area to live in. The “Pacific Belt of Fire” passes through here - a zone of high geological activity, accompanied by powerful earthquakes. It is also unsafe near the California coast, because in local waters Pacific Ocean Great white sharks often migrate, posing a serious threat to divers and surfers who love to ride high waves.

5. Death Valley (Russia)

The Geysernaya River runs down from the slopes of the Kikhpinych volcano in Kamchatka, just downstream of which is the famous Valley of Geysers. However, upstream relatively recently (in 1975) a more sinister place was discovered, which was called Death Valley. The land here is full of thermal springs, and also various gases escape through it, including carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and, in some places, even cyanide compounds. Inhaling all this, animals and birds of various sizes that enter a small area of territory quickly die and remain there.

6. “Road of Death” (Bolivia)

Perhaps this is the most dangerous road in the world. It winds along a 600-meter abyss, and its width does not exceed three meters. It takes a long time to drive along such a nerve-wracking path - 70 kilometers. Moreover, even buses and trucks manage to move along this route. Since there are no sidings here, the meeting of two cars on this road puts them in an almost hopeless situation - backing down such a narrow ledge means almost certainly dying. But, despite such a gloomy prospect, traffic along the “road of death” is quite brisk - all because it is the only one connecting the capital of Bolivia, La Paz, with the town of Coroisco. Moreover, periodically, during the rainy season (November-March), the narrow road is washed away by tropical downpours, blocked by landslides and hidden from view by thick fogs. Therefore, dozens of people die on this road every year.

7. Summit of Mount Washington (USA)

In the northeastern United States in the state of New Hampshire there is a relatively low (1917 m) Mount Washington. It stands out not at all for its height, but for its very severe weather conditions, which reign at its top. Until 1996, it held the wind speed record, recorded in 1934 at a weather station on the top of the mountain - 372 km/h. All technical buildings on the top of the mountain are designed to withstand such winds, many of them are chained to the ground so that they are not blown away by the wind. Heavy snow storms are common here at any time of the year.

8. Merapi or “Fire Mountain” (Indonesia)

The active Indonesian volcano Merapi should by definition be a dangerous place. During the period of observation alone, more than a hundred eruptions were observed. The volcano never falls asleep, constantly releasing a stream of smoke into the sky to a height of three kilometers. The last significant eruption, which occurred in 2014, killed about 20 people, but in 1930, when the lava descended lower than usual, death took a more abundant harvest here - about a thousand victims. The fault of these tragedies is the people themselves, who, in spite of everything, continue to settle too close to the volcano.

9. Bermuda Triangle (Atlantic Ocean)

Legendary Bermuda Triangle is considered a dangerous anomalous zone of the Atlantic. It lies in a triangle with the vertices of Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico (hence the area's name). How many articles and testimonies have been written about the disappearance of planes and ships in local waters, the failure of navigation instruments, and gaps in time! This area of the ocean is dangerous due to the large number of shoals and the fact that many Atlantic storms and cyclones originate here. There are, however, more esoteric explanations for local miracles.

10. “Royal Path” (Spain)

This is the name of the artificial walking trail that goes along the El Chorro gorge, which is located not far from Malaga near the village of Alora. Now it has a width of 3 meters and a length of about three kilometers, hanging over cliffs hundreds of meters deep. Previously, it was intended for technical purposes and had a width of no more than 1 m and did not have railings - it was in those days that it was deadly. And it was named royal for the episode when the King of Spain Alfonso XIII personally walked along it. It allowed passage from the Gaitanejo waterfall through the gorge to another Chorro waterfall. In 2000, due to the danger, the trail was officially closed, but since it was very popular among extreme tourists, the authorities reconstructed it and reopened it in 2015. Now the 3-meter path is lined with boards and has railings, so that even unprepared tourists can walk along it.

11. City of Port Moresby (New Guinea)

Capital island state Papua New Guinea, the city of Port Moresby (locals call it Nyujini) is located in the east of this island. This is the most dangerous capital in the world. Although it contains the president and government of the country, the real power here belongs to bandit groups. It is better for a civilized white man not to show his face here at all. The Papuans inhabiting the city can easily kill a stranger just to eat him. They can even be understood - here traditionally there is not enough animal protein in the diet. But this is more likely in the outback of the country, and in the capital a stranger will be killed in order to rob, or simply because there is nothing to do. This is because the residents were spoiled by Australian humanitarian handouts. As a result, the country's residents do not want to work at all, but even if any of them were to look for work, it is unlikely that they would find it here. Therefore, all they can do is join armed gangs and get money for women, alcohol and drugs through robberies. Local thugs are not even afraid of the police, because the authorities themselves are either bribed or completely intimidated.

12. South Luangwa National Park (Zambia)

This huge reserve is very beautiful, but if the hippopotamuses living here suddenly lose their temper, then the guests here may have a hard time. These agile living “tanks” really don’t like it when annoying visitors interfere with their education of the younger generation and their weddings. An angry hippopotamus does not need claws or even impressive fangs - it just needs to step on the object of irritation to kill it. In South Luangwa, there are about five hippos for every kilometer of river bank. For some reason, in children's fairy tales these herbivorous giants are presented as such good-natured hulks, but in fact, due to their sky-high testosterone levels, they are the most aggressive of the large African animals. Second in size only to elephants, hippos kill more people each year than lions, leopards and buffaloes combined.

13. Lake Natron (Tanzania)

The ominous uniqueness of the Tanzanian Lake Natron is that animals that approach it not only die, but are also mummified right there. They forever freeze in their natural poses, as if they were bewitched and turned into stone sculptures. The fact is that the water in the lake is highly alkaline; a lot of soda, lime, and other salts are dissolved here, which mummify the bodies of the victims, preventing them from decomposing. The mineralized water has an intense red tint, but closer to the shores it changes to orange and bluish. The victims of the insidious alkaline lake are mainly birds, while large animals prudently avoid it. But this lake is not so cruel to all birds - pink flamingos, taking advantage of the absence of predators, arrange their nesting here, flocking here in colossal flocks.

14. Lake Karachay (Russia)

Lake Karachay, located in the Urals, is a striking example of a man-made disaster. In the post-war years it was used as a repository for radioactive materials. Later, the water level in the lake dropped, and the radiation came out and began to generously flood everything around with its deadly rays. Authorities now have to spend huge amounts of money filling up the lake in an attempt to reduce exposure to radiation, but even approaching this body of water is still deadly.

15. Acid lake in Sicily (Italy)

This miniature lake looks incredibly picturesque. It can also be classified as one of the most poisonous bodies of water, but only for natural reasons. At the bottom there are a couple of sources of sulfuric acid, which is diluted with water. No one and nothing lives in this solution of sulfuric acid, and the birds wisely do not even try to approach it. But, according to rumor, the Sicilian mafia likes to hide their crimes here - once a victim is thrown there, after a few hours there is nothing left of him. Nothing grows around this lake at a fairly large distance. Any living creature will be in trouble if it gets too close to him. Surprisingly, the composition of the water of this lake was first studied only in 1999. At the same time, it was possible to establish that the sources of sulfuric acid were two underground crevices. In such an environment, it is impossible for any life to exist, at least not the kind we imagine.

About 80 tourists tried to prove the opposite and died as a result of their expedition. Perhaps this is hydrogen sulfide and an increased concentration of carbon dioxide. Scientists are still speculating today.

Particularly noteworthy is the place created by the hand of nature. This is a round funnel with bright outlines of dark and light water. Due to its depth and unique beauty, the place is popular for diving. The skeletons of 3 people were found here, and the place is considered dangerous.

10 Summit of Mount Washington

This Mountain peak in the USA in the White Mountains system it is famous among amateurs extreme species sport like a mountain with the strongest winds and completely unpredictable weather.

At this most beautiful point mountain system was in the 30s of the last century, the most amazing wind speed was recorded - 103.3 m/s. If we convert the indicator into the usual system of measures, it will be 372 km/h. For comparison, the speed of a tornado is about 480 km/h.

Everything located on Mount Washington has to be firmly attached to the surface, and the meteorological instruments that are installed there require the constant supervision of a specialist. So there are always people at the extreme peak.

Extreme sports enthusiasts visit this scary place with great pleasure: competitions for runners, cyclists and even climbers with disabilities are held here annually, as well as a rally for cars with alternative energy sources.

9 Mountain of the Dead

Extreme points of Russia have twice entered the top of the most dangerous places, and in ninth place is Dead Mountain, whose real name is Dyatlov Pass.

In this place in the middle of the last century, an inexplicable tragedy occurred - 9 people died, all tourist group, headed by student Dyatlov. Moreover, it is still unclear how and why this happened, although an investigation was carried out, and the immediate causes of death of the tourists were identified: for three, these were injuries caused by a blow of enormous force, and the rest of the climbers froze.

At night, they suddenly left the tent, cutting its wall with a knife, and walked away from it. Some tourists were wearing regular clothes, others were wearing only underwear. Some had no shoes or only one foot.

Be that as it may, the investigation reached a dead end, and the deaths of nine young people remained unexplained. Since then, various anomalies have occurred in this place every now and then, but extreme sports enthusiasts still strive to visit here.

8 California Coast

This wonderful place is very beautiful: the shore invites you to enjoy the sun and clear ocean. But this is exactly what should be avoided.

The ocean off the coast of California, so beloved by surfing fans, is teeming with white sharks. Surfers probably like great waves and sharks like tasty surfers. Almost every year shark attacks on people are recorded here - fortunately, often unsuccessful for the animals.

And although white sharks are not killers, they usually only maim people; no one wants to be left without a leg or an arm either. So you should think more than once before swimming in the ocean in this dangerous place.

That's what they call it active volcano Merapi on the island of Java (Indonesia). Even during periods of calm, it smolders slightly, reminding others of its difficult character, and from time to time various outbursts occur.

The last eruption occurred only a few years ago and killed more than 350 people.
Smoke and ash rise to a height of up to three meters. Large releases can also be dangerous, as they can cover and suffocate a person.

On average, once every seven years there are large emissions of ash and lava from the Merapi volcano, and each time this does not scare away, but attracts extreme tourists who watch the violence of the elements, being above the crater, in a fairly safe place.

Queimada-Grendy is actually the name of Snake Island, but the unofficial name is much more popular, because snakes are visible and invisible on this small (0.43 sq. km) piece of land.
The highly venomous snake island botrops, endemic to Brazil, also lives here (you won’t find it anywhere else).

This is a relatively large (up to 1.8 m) sand-colored snake with triangular spots, the venom of which can kill a mouse in a couple of seconds. Many bothrops are hermaphrodites.

There are also plenty of other snakes on the island, there are up to 5 individuals per 1 sq.m., so at present, people’s access to the island is strictly limited. This was done both for the sake of preserving the population of rare snakes and for the safety of people eager to look at one of the most dangerous places in the world.

5 The Danakil Desert is one of the most dangerous places in the world

The desert in northern Ethiopia is a truly extreme place. What’s most amazing is that people live here, and tourists dream of visiting this piece of land.

You may also be interested in Top 10 most beautiful places on earth - it's very beautiful

Apparently, this place used to be on the ocean floor. This explains the fact that even the few reservoirs of the Danakil Desert are salty. The local residents also rely on salt mining. The air temperature in the desert reaches +63, and the surface of the earth - +70 degrees!

No more than 200 mm of precipitation falls per year. In other words, welcome to the frying pan! Local attractions also include oil lakes, toxic fumes and numerous volcanoes. There is some sparse vegetation, so you can occasionally spot a zebra or donkey and extreme tourists.

4 South Luangwa National Park

A delightful reserve in Zambia becomes truly dangerous to visit when, for some reason, the attitude of hippopotamuses towards guests deteriorates.

Multi-ton creatures hate visitors who interfere with their weddings and raising children, and an angry hippopotamus does not require anything special, like claws or fangs, to punish the offender. It’s quite enough not to step on it.

For one kilometer of the river bank in “South Luangwa” there are up to five of these fat men, which would be very funny if not for one “but”. Hippos are considered the most dangerous of African animals; More people die each year from their attacks than from buffaloes, lions and leopards combined. At the same time, hippos are very aggressive, and in size they are second only to elephants.

3 Death Valley

And once again Russia is on the list of the most dangerous places on the planet! A small valley at the foot of the Kikhpinych volcano is in third place in the ranking.

It was discovered by scientists in 1975 in the vicinity of a unique valley of geysers (the only one in Eurasia). Experts noticed that various animals and birds were dying on a small piece of land and did an air analysis.

Among the gases emanating from the ground were a lot of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. As they accumulate, they slowly kill the victim. It turned out that this is not the only danger: in Death Valley there are also fast-acting poisonous gases, for example, hydrocyanic acid, which leads to respiratory paralysis. This is a natural gas chamber.

2 Death Road

The terrible road in Bolivia is a place of pilgrimage for extreme sports enthusiasts from all over the world and an everyday horror for local residents. The 70-kilometer stretch of road between La Paz and Coroico is where at least 25 cars and a hundred people are killed every year.

The worst accident occurred at the end of the 20th century: then a bus carrying 100 local residents ran off the road.

The road winds along the mountainside; Only the first 20 kilometers are asphalt, and then there is wet, slippery clay. In many places the road is so narrow that two cars cannot pass each other, then you have to go and negotiate who will go backwards, risking their lives.

Every now and then there are landslides that destroy part of the road surface, downpours and fogs that reduce visibility to a couple of meters. Moreover, the road is very winding and steep (the descent goes from three and a half km to 330 m above sea level).

All this does not stop those who crave thrills: they descend here in jeeps and bicycles to tickle their nerves (however, not everyone survives). This does not stop the local residents either: there is simply no other road to the capital.

1 The Bermuda Triangle is the most dangerous place on the planet

The stretch of ocean between Puerto Rico, Florida and Bermuda is often referred to as anomalous zone, in which ships and planes perish. The reasons for the sinking of ships are often unknown, and there is always too much hysteria and misinformation around these incidents, so it is not easy to find out the truth.

The numerous shoals in the area may cause a number of shipwrecks, but they do not explain the plane crashes and crew abandonments. There are also versions that are similar to the truth, related to methane and infrasound.

Those who support the first theory believe that the cause of shipwrecks is huge bubbles of methane rising to the surface. If the bubble is in close proximity to the ship, it will immediately go under water. Methane can also affect instruments on an airplane.

The second version is related to the “human factor”. It is known that infrasound can be generated in the sea, and it can have a destructive effect on the psyche of some people who begin to hallucinate. In this condition, the crews could abandon the ship, and the helmsman could make dangerous maneuvers, which would lead to the death of the aircraft or ship.
