We had been planning our trip to Thailand for a very long time. The country attracted us with its originality and exoticism.

In May 2012, fate gave us a wonderful gift. It turned out to be a month free from work and other matters. Without thinking twice, we looked through all possible airline offers for flights to Thailand.

We didn’t even consider traveling with a travel agency, since I wanted to stay in the country for at least a month and plunge into ordinary life Thais.

Fortunately, the required air ticket was found immediately, although usually, in order to buy a cheap flight, you need to book it at least several months in advance. We were lucky; we purchased a Moscow-Phuket ticket worth 36 thousand rubles roundtrip for two.

We wanted only one thing from our vacation - a calm environment, clean beach, picturesque views and a minimum of other tourists. Well, where would you go with such demands?

Of course, we didn’t stay a day in Phuket and went to the province of Krabi. Initially, of course, we planned to save money on moving, but we were tired of long flight decided to take a taxi. We negotiated for $150 per car. It was, of course, possible to leave on a regular regular bus, which depart several times a day from the Phuket bus station.

We didn’t book the hotel in advance, so we were very worried whether we would have time to get to Krabi province before dark. After all, the sun sets in Thailand already at 18.00, and we needed to find accommodation for the night. Of course, this was a somewhat rash act on our part, but... May is considered the beginning of the rainy season, we decided that we could easily find suitable housing locally.

Rental housing in Krabi

Without a clear plan of action, we asked the taxi driver to take us to any inexpensive hotel of his choice to spend the night, and in the morning start looking for housing for the next month. And here we first encountered the Thai mentality, which we subsequently liked more and more. The taxi driver said he knows perfect place where we can settle. And he really brought us to a quiet residential area with small houses that were rented for a period of one month for only 9,000 baht. We are so incredibly lucky! But we still advise you not to count on luck, but to select and book a hotel in Krabi in advance.

I’ll say right away that it’s for lovers luxury hotels and increased comfort, our choice will seem strange, but we are not picky about housing. In addition, I wanted a small, cozy private house with the most necessary amenities. That's what we got. The house was simply surrounded by greenery, it had one room with a large bed, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a shower and a toilet. Next door to us there were 7 more similar houses and a little further away a large, castle-like house of the owner. It seemed that the houses were small children of this huge, majestic building. We also liked the fact that the nearest beach is only about 5 minutes at a leisurely pace. But we were still lazy and rented a scooter, especially since the rental price was only 100 baht per day.

Krabi beaches

Having tuned in for a long and relaxing holiday, the first week we did nothing but ride around the neighborhood on a rented moped and go to the beach. By the way, the landscapes in the province of Krabi are truly mesmerizing with their beauty!

A moped that we didn’t part with throughout our entire vacation.

Even before the trip, reading reviews from travelers, we more than once came across opinions that the beaches in Krabi are not very good. I don't know who writes this! I have never had such delight from crystal clear water, rocks sticking out of the ocean and sunsets. Perhaps the garbage that was written about is there, but we definitely didn’t see it.

Excursions Krabi

Having thoroughly enjoyed the idleness, we wondered where to go on an excursion. There really are no problems with leaving somewhere. On the street that runs along the beach there are a huge number of small tourist offices. Every now and then they offer different kinds excursions.

We chose to visit the Tiger Temple and a tour called "3 Islands".

Tiger Temple

Amazing place located on the way to the airport. There are a huge number of sculptures on the territory of the temple, but the main charm temple complex there are 1200 steps in the staircase, and if you overcome them you will get to the top of the mountain on which sits a huge Buddha. From my experience, I can say that climbing steps is very difficult, even if you play sports. Believe me, the ascent was not easy for anyone in our group, except for the monk, of course. But the view, the mountain peaks and the blissful feeling of peace and quiet are worth visiting.

Buddha on top of the mountain near the Tiger Temple

Island tour

The beginning of the excursion did not bode well, as we had to get up at 6 am. A minibus picked us up right from our house and for about an hour we drove around the area, collecting other tourists. I really don’t like these group excursions. Then they loaded us into a boat and took us one by one around the islands. The beauty, of course, is indescribable, snow-white sand, palm trees, monkeys. Everything was ruined by huge crowds of screaming tourists, vendors and beggars. Later we learned that we could rent a separate boat with a Thai on our own and he would take us around other islands where there are no tourists and the nature is completely untouched.

Some will say that our visit to Krabi province was boring, uncomfortable and completely unfulfilling. But the pleasure we received is incomparable to anything!

By the way, if you are in Ao Nang, drive up from the beach, past the Nasha Russia cafe, keep looking to the left! You'll see night market For local residents, there are no tourists there at all, but there is delicious sushi for only 5 baht a piece, as well as carousels and something else that will really surprise you. Good luck!

Search hotels on Phuket island

Using the form below, you can find out prices for hotel rooms, as well as select air tickets to the island of Phuket, as well as book a hotel and tickets.

According to many “experienced” travelers, it is almost impossible to rent a decent lady in Krabi at the height of the season. We decided to listen to their advice and planned our move for mid-April, when housing becomes more accessible and cheaper.

Sections in the article

On the second day of our stay in Krabi province, we, armed with a map and a phone, went in search of good accommodation on Ao Nang beach. Our plan was to find a nice, bright one-bedroom house with a swimming pool and a spacious veranda. The budget for this campaign was about 12,000 baht.

WHERE WE LOOKED FOR ACCOMMODATION: AO NANG BEACH

Ao Nang - the most popular tourist area, built up up and down with hotels, apartments and private houses. But despite the apparent diversity, the situation in the local real estate market has not changed since 2011: the same houses that people wrote about two years ago are still being rented. Therefore, during the hot season, the price tag for even the most “rotten” options skyrockets, because demand during this period exceeds supply. But starting in April, the influx of tourists decreases, prices drop sharply, and houses are vacated one after another.

I don’t know how things are on other beaches in Krabi province in terms of rental housing. But I can definitely say about the pros and cons of the Ao Nang coast.

Pros of Ao Nang Beach: well developed infrastructure, active night life, very beautiful views

Cons of Ao Nang Beach: muddy water in the sea (in the heat it looks more like a puddle), garbage is scattered in the corners, the aromas of which spoil the air.

RENTING A HOUSE IN KRABI: OUR OBSERVATIONS

1. Rental cost

The cost of rental housing in Krabi depends on the season like nowhere else. For example, from December to April our house was rented for twice as much as it is now. The reduction in cost may be affected by the conclusion of a long-term contract of one year.

2. Utility payments

In most cases, electricity, water and internet are included in the rental price. We came across only one German owner, who asked for 9 baht per 1 kW, since his previous tenants burned him about 4,000 baht of electricity per month.

3. Private home or resort?

Houses that are rented out year after year long term on Ao Nang, are gradually developing to the level of a resort. For example, in our house the electricity is turned on and off with a key, and if you sign a contract for three months, then the price also includes cleaning. As a result, the only difference between a resort and an ordinary house is the price.

By the way, if you wish, you can negotiate with hotel owners on long-term rentals. The calculation of the cost per night in this case will be reduced to 30%, and during the low season - up to 50%.

4. Bargain and bargain again!

This rule works especially well during the low season, when most tourists leave for home, and houses are doomed to be empty until November. At this moment, every farang is worth its weight in gold! You can throw off about two thousand at once, and then depending on the circumstances. At the height of the season, this advice will no longer be relevant, but starting in May you can save a lot!

IMPORTANT PLACES: LAUNDRY, WHERE TO GET WATER, WHERE TO FUEL YOUR BIKE

Laundrythere is one on almost every corner. This can be either single washing machines or an entire service with full service. The cost of “washing” varies from 20 to 40 baht.

Buy drinking water You can do it in any store or at a water dispenser, which are ubiquitous in Asia. Tap water, of course, should not be drunk under any circumstances or in any form. We found only one water dispenser on Ao Nang, and we regularly collect water there for cooking and just for drinking. The cost of 1 liter is 1 baht. So far everyone is alive and well :)

Gas stations There are plenty of them in Krabi, but there are also special machines at every step. True, the cost of gasoline is prohibitive - 1 liter 52 baht for 95.

HOUSES IN KRABI ON THE BEACH OF JSC NANG: WITH AND WITHOUT POOL

House No. 1: Banburee resort

The Banburi resort has very bright and sunny houses without a living room. Roughly speaking, there is only a bedroom and a separate kitchen, which overall looks quite harmonious. True, it bothers me a little that upon entering you immediately come across a large bed.

The original price of the house is 12,000 baht. But the owner immediately made a discount of 2000 baht. It seems to me that if we had pressed a little, we would have rented the house for 9000. Utilities and Internet are included in the price.

House No. 2: Large beautiful house with a living room

A very large, cozy and bright house a few kilometers from the beach with a living room and a bedroom. Inside it is equipped with all the necessary furniture: from pots to a TV.

Initial price – 10,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 3: House for a very large company

We had no intention of renting such a huge thing, but out of curiosity, we decided to take a walk through these mansions. The house has five bedrooms, two floors (there is a large attic on the second floor), two bathrooms, a large veranda and a living room. This is an ideal option for a large and friendly company. As for the furniture, the owners promised to furnish the room immediately after payment (apparently, the money was only enough for construction). Hence the condition: long-term lease of 3 months.

Price per month: 30,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 3 on the world map

House No. 4: Aonang Mountain Paradise - unreasonably high price

Very small houses near the coast of Ao Nang, located on the territory of the hotel. Accordingly, the pool here is shared, and the price includes cleaning of the premises. At the reception, the administrator, after consulting with the owner for a long time on the phone, announced the cost - 20,000 baht. Of course, this price is greatly inflated, since there is little space inside, no living room and kitchen. The maximum discount in our case was 5,000 baht. But on one of the sites people wrote that they rented these houses for 10,000 baht.

Price: 15,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 5: Beautiful house in a resort with a living room

A spacious house with a separate living room, kitchen and bedroom, located on a small hill near the coast. The view from the windows opens onto a green wasteland and a giant rock. Not far from the house there is a communal but very small swimming pool. Since this group of houses belongs to the hotel, the price is correspondingly quite high - 40,000 baht.

Price: 40,000 baht. Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 5 on the world map

House No. 6: Sabai Residence - small apartment-type apartments

Apartment-type apartments with European-quality renovation and a large veranda. Inside there is all the necessary furniture, kitchen, bedroom, living room. But, despite the abundance of rooms, a feeling of enclosed space is created, when there is nowhere to even step. Although we liked the appearance of the apartment, and we seriously thought about renting. The only thing we weren't happy with was the cost - 20,000 baht per month. For long-term rentals of three months or more, we were offered a discount of 5,000 baht.

Price: 15,000 baht. Electricity is not included in the price - 9 baht/kW

House No. 7: Cozy houses with separate kitchen in the resort

This group of houses is partly owned by the hotel, but most of the buildings were purchased by the Thais and are rented on a monthly basis. On the left side there are apartments without a living room, but with a kitchen and a small veranda.

On the right are separate houses, where the bedroom is separated from the living room by a partition, and the kitchen is located in the back of the room. The swimming pool is shared on the condominium premises.

Price: 15,000 baht (apartment), 18,000 baht (detached house). Utility bills are included in the price.

House No. 7 on the world map

House No. 8: Oscar Villa - ideal price/quality ratio

Oscar Villa is a group of one and two bedroom houses with a communal swimming pool. We immediately liked this option, but had some doubts in terms of the convenience of housing.

Externally, the condominium looks very stylish, but I was a little confused by the layout: under one roof there are two separate houses, united by a common veranda. The villa's grounds are planted with bushes and trees, and the windows overlook the communal pool.

The inside of the house is no less nice than the outside, and consists of a small studio apartment. The first thing that catches your eye is the perfect European-quality renovation, tastefully selected furniture and a breathtaking bathtub with many shelves. But the most important part in the house is the air conditioning, which can be turned on around the clock, since electricity is already included in the price.

In addition to all the benefits of modernity, the house has fast Internet, good sound insulation and excellent daylight thanks to glazed doors and many windows.

Price: 13,000 baht in low season/24,000 in high season

House No. 9: Mysterious Palm Resort: it doesn’t get any cheaper

If you tidy up here a little, live quietly and keep a low profile, you can save a lot on renting a house with a private pool!

Renting a house in Krabi - is it easy? Especially when under New Year. Especially when with a child.

Since we were traveling with three-month-old Sofia, we wanted to find a house suitable for living with a small child.

We needed at least one separate bedroom, a small kitchen, a terrace so Sofia could be outdoors, and the Internet for work. We wanted to settle in a quiet, beautiful place. The budget was set at around 15 thousand baht.

Since we arrived in Krabi in October, even before the start of the season, it seemed that we would quickly find what we needed. But the situation began to develop completely differently than we expected.

At first, we tried to drive around looking for a home with three-month-old Sofia. But the child constantly drew attention to himself, and we didn’t really see any house for rent signs.

Or maybe they didn’t notice. Or maybe I didn’t have the patience to go around the alleys too methodically. Or maybe some signs haven’t been posted yet, since we arrived before the start of the season.

Sergei, it seems, also traveled alone, but without success.

Maybe to Phuket?

The options we liked were occupied. For example, we checked the already well-known “houses on the mountain”, which Masha and Adjei wrote about on their blog - full.

By the way, they are not only occupied, but have also become more expensive (12 thousand for an annual contract and 15 for a shorter period, and in 2010 they cost 8 thousand).

We found several reviews of houses on the Internet ( and ) to at least get an idea of which part of Ao Nang to look for houses in. Over the past couple of years, the reviews have become outdated. I am writing this to make it clear how quickly the situation is changing here.

Something stopped giving up. Something has almost doubled in price. Some were rented out on annual contracts and were almost hopelessly occupied.

Somewhere, like Oscar House, a global restructuring began. A bunch of new (unfinished at that time) houses, spaced closely together, a swimming pool, and high prices (houses began to cost 22 thousand instead of 15, twins are rented out for 16 thousand with a six-month contract and almost 18 thousand if for a shorter period).

Our mood began to deteriorate. We decided to go to Phuket, thinking that maybe we would find a suitable option there.

But in Phuket we literally turned around and went back. We have been to this island many times. But now, with a child, it began to seem too concrete, too built up, too congested.

Niko

At that moment we decided to look for a house through an agency. And we found Niko’s website on the Internet.

Nico is a middle-aged, very likable Luxembourger who has lived in Thailand for a long time, more than 10 years, and is precise and adequate in a European way.

After talking with him, our hearts felt lighter for the first time. Life was starting to get better.

The first option still turned out to be not very successful for us. We nicknamed it to ourselves as “the house that smells of urine.”

It was not the first freshness, with bars on the doors and windows, with loud municipal aerobics next door. But two bedrooms, Internet. The Chinese owner wanted 12 thousand for it. Much like in these photographs, only with small windows and more shabby.

After the first puncture, we formulated that we wanted the house to be new.

Our home in Dien Dong

He was found within the next 15 minutes.

And it was brand new. The twin next door wasn't even finished yet, but it only took a couple of days for the final touches. So there seemed to be no prospect of getting annoying construction under the windows.

Everything inside is very clean and tidy. It's new!

Two bedrooms, a nice place, silence, only 12 thousand baht. There's even a washing machine.

Nearby, 300 meters away, is simply an excellent restaurant, the best in Ao Nang and the surrounding area, Frog and Catfish, run by the Gerry and Bua Kennedy family. Here you could also use the swimming pool for free.

The views are crazy.

We really didn’t have the Internet in our house yet. But Phom, the owner of the house, said that she had already signed the contract and the Internet would be available in 3 days.

Everything suited us. We signed a contract for 4 months. We paid for a month's rent and a deposit for another 2 months, a total of 36 thousand baht.

This is how we had fun settling in.

In the evening, absolutely happy, we went to bed. But what is THIS?

Bz-bz-bz. Five seconds later: bz-bz-bz. After another five seconds: bz-bz-bz. And so on all night. A long, unbearable night with sounds that during the day we mistook for the sounds of construction in the neighboring twin.

Thus began our struggle with the pump roaring under the bedroom window, maintaining pressure in the water supply. The pump was unsuccessfully installed directly on the foundation of the house, which is why it vibrated and literally hummed.

The next day the pump was somehow reinstalled, or at least removed from the foundation of the house.

After 7 days the pump broke and was replaced. After another 7 days, dirty water came out of the tap, and the white towels in the washing machine turned a bright brick color.

It was then that we remembered that this village is called Dien Dong, which means “red land” in Thai.

For another couple of weeks we went without water every other day.

And the Internet, without which we could not work, was not installed either in three days or in three weeks.

Looking again...

We started looking for another house. Naturally, in mid-November the situation with houses in Ao Nang became even worse.

Niko said that Ao Nang is full. By the way, the Chinese woman’s house, the one that “smelled of urine” that we disdained, sold for 20 thousand...

We looked at this traditional Thai house,

huge, but awkward and uncomfortable, with a huge price of 20 thousand baht...

...and a twin in the center of a Muslim village, with a construction site right opposite, for 15 thousand, with a contract for at least three months and payment immediately for the entire period.

Another house for 15. We almost agreed to it, despite the fact that it is a studio, and we would be uncomfortable here. But from what we saw, this was the cutest option. True, in the room, literally before our eyes, a small scorpion was knocked down, that is, the doors and windows here have cracks somewhere.

Reward for a long search

And then, thanks to a chain of some incredible coincidences, we ourselves, without agencies, found this house.

The sign on the house read: Home for rent. Home, not house! And so it happened, for 25 thousand a month we got an absolutely incredible house, which became our Home.

The price for this village is incredibly low. So we surprised Niko’s agency.

The house is located in cottage village. The village, by the way, is fabulously beautiful.

The view from the window didn’t disappoint either:

In addition, there is a communal swimming pool.

And a gym.

The house has 3 bedrooms. There is a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, and we made a small office out of one.

Kitchen (now we have already rearranged some things and it is more lived-in):

Living room:

BBQ area:

We immediately appreciated the delights of life in good organized place. For example, in Thailand it is usually a problem to find where to throw away garbage. Here the garbage is taken out, drinking water is brought in, the lawn is mowed, the house is cleaned if desired, the village is guarded (in the end we even began to forget to lock the house when we went for a walk).

The nearest 7-Eleven can be reached on foot. If you wish, you can also get to the sea - it’s one and a half kilometers to Noparatara. And there are no houses right on the beach here at all.

Since houses in Thailand are mostly rented out of cardboard, such a house is an opportunity not to tiptoe around while the child is sleeping. The kitchen is far away, you can easily do housework. There is something to compare with, our previous house in Dien Dong was in this sense a complete nightmare.

P.S. About the deposit

But the story with the house in “Red Land” did not end at that time. Through her assistant, Niko Phom, she conveyed that the deposit would not be returned to us, since we were leaving on our own.

Despite this information, we still smiled at Phom and talked as if nothing had happened. After all, she hasn’t told us anything directly yet.

Since it was not our fault either with the Internet or with the pomp, we were counting on the most peaceful resolution of the situation.

Since Phom knows literally a few words in English, on the morning of our departure, we received a note from her: “We like you. Therefore, here is the calculation..."

Thus the situation was completely completed and resolved.

I wrote my conclusions and advice about renting houses in Krabi.

While looking for a home, you can stay in Ao Nang in one of the hotels (see all available options on the largest hotel booking site Booking.com) or apartments (large selection + registration bonus 907 rubles on the leading site in this segment

Hi all! Today I want to tell you how to rent a bike in the resort town of Ao Nang, Krabi province in Thailand. I know, I know, I already have a post on the topic. I agree, the scheme is similar and works in approximately the same way, but there are nuances and useful tips, which I would like to talk about in this article. Also, those who read the post to the end will receive a bonus - I will tell you how to rent a house in Ao Nang! So, let's begin!

Rent a bike in Ao Nang and Krabi Town - our experience

On the first day after arriving in Ao Nang, we checked into a guest house for 500 baht (we couldn’t find anything cheaper, even though it was not the season), and I rented a bike there for 250 baht/day. Exorbitantly expensive, you say! And you'll be right! But at that moment I didn’t want to walk and decided to travel around the area just in search of a house and the same bike, but for a reasonable price. Imagine my surprise when 10 out of 10 firms surveyed the next day told me the price was 250 baht or more! Where am I? It seems that Samui is considered one of the most expensive areas of Thailand, but here Krabi shows its big balls! 🙂

But every cloud has a silver lining. Having toured almost the entire resort town, Marinka and I climbed into the very depths, closer to the mountains. And we met a wonderful person there, Irina Storm, who suggested us a cool group on Facebook “ Incredible adventures Russians in Krabi." And it was here that I found someone who gives out stories left and right! For a small fee, of course! :) His name is Evgeny Khamitov.

Zhenya is Russian, has lived in Ao Nang for more than a year and has a bike rental business. What difference does it make who you buy a scooter from? But don't tell me! Below are a few differences:

  • Firstly, you communicate in the same language and can explain to the person exactly what you want!
  • Secondly, Evgeniy has very affordable prices. I rented a Honda Click at the lowest price in town. I’ll say in advance that it was September, and this is not the season. But even during the season, Zhenya’s prices are not off the charts.
  • Third, Khamitov does not take a passport! You leave as a deposit an amount equal to one month’s rent (if you absolutely want to leave your passport, please do so). Once the bike is returned, the deposit is also returned.
  • Fourth, he does not invent scratches and damage. On the contrary, if something happens to you or the moped, you need to inform Eugene about it! He knows where it is cheaper to repair vehicle, knows doctors and shamans, will tell you where to buy a Vietnamese sprocket for a bike :)
  • Fifthly, Evgeniy is a motorcycle instructor. If you have no experience driving a two-wheeled friend, or feel insecure behind the wheel, then Zhenya will teach you several lessons, after which both confidence and skills will come.
  • At sixth, these are all kinds of bonuses. For example, Zhenya himself can bring or pick up a bike (by agreement), suggest interesting places and establishments to see. Also, along with the bike, you purchase round-the-clock support for operating the iron horse.

Don’t think that I am now promoting one person. Not at all. I’m promoting the very opportunity to rent a bike in Krabi from a Russian and describing all the advantages. Another person or group of people could have taken Eugene’s place. It’s not a matter of personality, although Zhenya turned out to be an extraordinary person, and we filmed with him, in which you can get to know Evgeniy better, his areas of activity and find out contacts.

Several life hacks for travel and motorcycle trips in Thailand and other countries

So, the promised benefits:

Lifehack 1. Before you go to any city or country, look for groups with a Russian-speaking diaspora on social networks. They are! Google and Yandex are, of course, great, but having the opportunity to ask a question to experts is worth a lot! So, for example, I learned how, where to eat delicious massaman in Phuket, and with whom to play volleyball in Ao Nang.

  • The most important advice is don’t drive fast! The lower the speed, the faster you will stop (and don’t laugh and say “thanks, Cap” - in practice this is one of the most useful tips)!
  • Always brake with two brakes, pressing the rear brake a little earlier than the front. Do it smoothly. One rear brake can be used when the situation is calm and there is plenty of space. On wet roads and sand, pay extra attention.
  • Always release the gas before braking. If you press the gas and brake at the same time, you will lose traction. I hope you can imagine the consequences?
  • Do not brake when turning, maneuvering, or when the bike is in an inclined position. The wheel will lose traction and a fall cannot be avoided.
  • Practice before heading out onto a busy highway. You need to learn to brake correctly right away, and not relearn it later, after a sad experience.

Life hack 3. Every time I took the bike off (even for a day), I had problems with the wheels. Basically, the camera became unusable due to
for various reasons. I tore off the nipple once. There are plenty of tire shops both in any city and along the highway, since a bike is the most common means of transportation in Asia. Camera replacement prices:

  • Krabi Town, Ao Nang – 150 baht.
  • Koh Samui Island – 200 baht.
  • Koh Lanta island. Here the owner charged me 300 baht, but I wasn’t too lazy, went to a tavern and asked how much the repairs cost. It turned out to be 180 baht. Showed it to the owner and she returned 120 baht without question. Remember, almost everything. You need to keep your ear to the ground with them and not let yourself be deceived!

Life hack 4. In Ao Nang, almost everyone rides without a helmet. As the locals say, they don’t remember the raid here. But I advise everyone to ride only with helmets! The Thais themselves drive badly, they can drive towards you or cut you off. In the evenings there are a lot of drunk people driving, both locals and Europeans. God saves man, who save himself. I recommend taking a helmet closed or with protective glass. When driving off the road, dust, sand, small pebbles and other nonsense fly into your eyes. Closed is the safest and strongest.

Housing in Ao Nang, Krabi province: how to rent a house?

Here I want to tell you how to rent a house in Ao Nang. Again, the algorithm is similar to . We rent a bike and ride along different streets, ask the Thais if they or their friends are renting out a house, call the numbers provided, and bargain! Housing prices in Ao Nang are high. On average 10-12 thousand baht per month. And this is in the off-season - September. Another distinctive feature of this region is the lack of a kitchen in the house. In those places where it is available, there is no gas cylinder and stove. So, if you are looking for a house with the above-described functions, then be patient. I recommend considering options without a stove, since it costs from 250 baht in Tesco. Plus a gas cylinder. I can’t tell you the cost, but you can buy it in the store.

We ourselves rented the lower part of a two-story house. The landlady lived above us. The cost of housing was a discount of 6,000 baht/month. What did this cost include? A room of about 20 meters with a large bed and a corner with a table, a sofa and armchairs. Good internet (even three - we found out the passwords for the Wi-Fi of neighboring houses 🙂) and a TV. Toilet with shower, hole in the floor and warm water. Porch with concrete table and chairs. We had a kitchen with a refrigerator. I arranged for the hostess to provide a gas cylinder. All the kitchen utensils were there too. A bonus was a large grill with a grill on which we cooked kebabs of meat, poultry and seafood. Across the street from our accommodation there is a small cafe that serves delicious Thai and European food. We stayed in Ao Nang for a month and after that I can say that the accommodation was worth its $200. Finally, let's leave a point on the map of our house. There are many houses and rooms for rent in this area of Ao Nang (they found housing for friends very close to us):

I'll end here. Have a nice stay in Ao Nang and good luck!

In Krabi we needed to find accommodation for a month. The standard search technology was used - renting a bike and scrupulously exploring all the nooks and crannies on it. This brought the corresponding result - we settled at the farthest end of Nopharat Thara Beach, in a sanitized piece of the jungle.

First of all, you shouldn’t hope that you will find your dream home on the first day of your arrival. On the first day, you don’t need to look for anything at all, but just breathe out a little, eat and go for a massage. In order for all of the above to pass with maximum comfort, I recommend renting accommodation for the first couple of days in advance. Here you need to decide where you want to live - in a hotel/guesthouse or rent a private house or apartment.

Looking for Hotels and Guesthouses in Ao Nang (Krabi)

If you want to stay in a hotel in Krabi, I advise you to use the service Hotelscombined, aka RoomGuru. This service “combs” all popular booking systems such as Booking.Com or Agoda and finds the cheapest accommodation options in each hotel. Indeed, in these systems prices often vary quite a lot, in case you didn’t know.

In general, I advise you to first look here:

Now let's talk about what, in principle, can be rented in Krabi for a more or less long term.

In total, in Krabi, as in other places in Thailand, there are five options for long-term rental housing: hotel, resort, condo/apartment, detached house and villa. Let's look at everything in order:

1. Hotels in Krabi

Well, it’s clear here - ordinary hotel, where, after haggling properly, you can get a discount on long-term accommodation. In expensive chain hotels, such a number most likely will not work, but small private hotels may well accommodate you.

Pros: full-fledged hotel service, cleaning every day, breakfast (if you're lucky), swimming pool, no need to worry about utility bills and other inevitable little things.

Minuses: usually a little expensive, no kitchen, usually small standard rooms.

Here is a small selection of hotels in Krabi and Ao Nang where I would stay myself (click on the hotel name and you will be taken to a description page with reviews and a booking form).

A small and inexpensive youth hotel in the center of Ao Nang, from 600 baht.

A hotel of the international Ibis chain, opened in Ao Nang in 2014. From 2000 baht.

Centara Anda Dhevi Resort

Luxurious hotel of the world famous Centara chain. From 3000 baht.

2. Resorts in Krabi

A resort is, in principle, the same hotel, only built not in “one piece” in the form of a large building, but in separate bungalows. Here at your service there will be a cafe, a swimming pool, a travel agency, a massage - the rest is on the list. Your bungalow will be cleaned every day or every other day, linen and towels will be changed, water, flowers, fruits will be brought to your room - depending on the level of the hotel. “Bungalows” are usually quite standard - one room about 20 meters in area, a bathroom with hot water, a large veranda, an air conditioner, a drawer and a refrigerator, and Wi-Fi here and there.

In the high season of 2010-2011, such an option in a mid-range resort cost 14-15 thousand, bargained for 12-13. As they write in the comments, now there is no such freebie, resorts are reluctant to trade, and one day of stay in them now costs from 1000 baht.

pros: your own house without neighbors, no need to worry about cleaning and washing linen and towels; no additional costs - the price includes water, electricity and internet; usually a good location - close to the sea and civilization.

Minuses : usually there is not a hint of cuisine and, again, a little expensive.

Our selection of resorts in Krabi:

Inexpensive, simple bungalows without pretensions. But from 450 baht.

Quiet resort on Nopparat Thara beach. From 1200 baht.

A large and very beautiful resort in the center of Ao Nang. From 2000 baht.

Resort on Railay Beach (neighboring Ao Nang). From 3000 baht.

3. Condos and Apartments in Krabi

A condo, short for condominium, is an apartment building with additional amenities such as a pool, gym, and landscaped grounds. Over the past couple of years, several such condominiums have been built in Ao Nang, so fans of high-rise housing can now rest easy. Also in Krabi town and on the outskirts of Ao Nang there are quite a few “tai condos” with a dozen apartments. The rooms are usually quite microscopic, as are the balconies. It's worth the pleasure 5 thousand for tie-condo up to 40 for a new condo per month. Water and electricity are paid separately.

Pros: full-fledged private housing with a kitchen, appliances and sometimes even dishes, swimming pool, gym, territory

Cons: Usually you can't live with animals.

Our selection of condos in Krabi:

One bedroom apartment for 35 euros.

Another one-room apartment for 30 euros.

Two bedrooms, living room and kitchen. From 50 euros.

Three-room apartment with a swimming pool. 80 euros.

3. Houses in Krabi

Houses for rent in Krabi vary greatly. Previously, Thais mainly rented out their homes, but now entire villages are specially built everywhere for renting out.

As a rule, these are one or two room houses located in a fenced area, sometimes with a shared swimming pool. Houses with little or no furniture and a kitchen. Such villages are built for long-term rental, but you can find a house for a month, especially if the village is new. Get ready to buy all sorts of household items for such a home, such as dishes, a kettle and towels.

Prices - from 6 thousand baht per month for a very modest tie-style hut up to 30-40 thousand behind big house with 3-4 bedrooms and full stuffing. The longer the rental period, the lower the price. Internet, water and electricity are paid separately.

pros: one's own boss; As a rule, there is a kitchen, inexpensive.

Minuses: Internet access often needs to be done independently; no service; far from the sea.

Our selection of houses in Krabi:

Authentic wooden house with garden. 20 euros.

Nice new house for 1 family. 30 euros.

Very nice 1 bedroom houses. 30 euros.

Large house with 3 bedrooms and swimming pool. 80 euros.

4. Villas in Krabi

Detached houses are usually rented by Thais who built them themselves on their own plot. The quality of houses varies greatly: if the Thais built for themselves, then the house may turn out to be a wooden hut on legs without windows or doors. If they built it for rent, it may turn out to be a normal house. In general, the situation is the same as in the villages: the longer the rental period, the lower the price, you will have to pay for utilities yourself, and most likely also provide normal Internet.

You can search for such housing either independently or with the help of real estate agencies.

Pros: cheap; there is a kitchen; your own plot

Cons: Internet access will most likely have to be done independently

Our choice - Baan Po Ngam Resort

On our first visit to Krabi, we lived in Ao Nang in Baan Po Ngam Resort(click on the link to see room availability and prices). The bungalow with all the stuffing was then traded for 12 000 . The next time we rented a separate house for the same price.

What we liked about Baan Po Ngam: a large (25 meters) room, wooden floors (and not terrible tiled ones, like everywhere else), well-groomed territory - like an entire arboretum. At night, with lights, cicadas and bats, it looks fabulous.

Nopparat Thara Beach is a 10-minute walk away. There is a free auto rickshaw shuttle to Ao Nang, but we still had our own transport.

The room has a full-fledged workplace. The wooden tabletop lies on a cast-iron base from a sewing machine; you can turn the pedals to calm your nerves =))

Hot water is generated using a water heater - there have never been any problems, there is enough water for everyone.

The bungalow comes with a large veranda (taken from about the middle of it). Then they brought us a large bamboo table, chairs and an extension cord - we got another workplace. Jaspers live on the palm tree, you can communicate with them casually.

Under the roof of the veranda hang two mummies, left behind by one of the previous residents. Toothy.

The resort has a swimming pool - small, but clean and well-maintained - perfect for diving in the morning. There are also sunbeds and umbrellas, but they weren’t included in the shot.
