The coast stretches for almost 3 kilometers. The beach can be divided into 3 areas: south on both sides of the hill, center and north. The southernmost tip of Kamala is not suitable for swimming. At low tide it becomes very shallow here, and the bottom with stones is exposed. Two rivers flow into the sea from the south side, and fishermen moor their long-tail boats here. Just south of Kamala, across the pass, lies the secret Hua Beach. It is completely wild, there is almost no infrastructure there.

The central part of Kamala starts from the tsunami monument and continues to the north. The sand here is of different sizes, in some places it is very fine, in others it is larger. The entry into the sea is gentle and without rocks, which is suitable for swimming with children. At low tide you need to walk to the depths. The color of the water is not as beautiful as in Surin; the sea sometimes seems cloudy, although it is clear. The central part of the beach is bordered by casuarinas and palm trees, creating natural shade. This is where the main beach infrastructure is located: sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, trays with drinks and water sports. The price for a set of two sun loungers and an umbrella is 200 baht for the whole day. There are places where you can sit with your mat in the shade of trees and relax comfortably without fear of getting sunburned. Paid toilets and showers are available at nearby restaurants.

The very north of Kamala is quieter than the central part. There are few people here, you can sit on a mat in the shade of trees, and swimming is just as comfortable as in the center; the low tides are hardly noticeable. A stream flows into the sea, which dries up in the high season and does not bother vacationers.

The south of Kamala Beach is not suitable for swimming

Kamala Beach Hotels

There are not many hotels on Kamala. All of them are located near the sea. In the very south on the mountain there are also private villas. The sea around them is not the best: low tides are noticeable, the bottom is full of rocks, but hotels provide shuttles to their own beach club with good sea, and the views from the rooms and restaurants are gorgeous. In the central part of Kamala you can stay in a three-star hotel, in a four-star hotel for adults over 16 years old only, and in a children's hotel with entertainment for younger guests. In the northern part it is located right on the beach, and a little to the side - with water slides.

Attractions and entertainment

The coast is popular with newlyweds from China. In the morning, photographers run around happy married couples and force them to pose even in the midday heat. Photo sessions take place closer to the north of the coast, where it is less crowded. There are not as many water sports in Kamala as on and, you can ride a jet ski, fly with a parachute. The bay is suitable for a quiet beach holiday, long swims and watching a charming sunset, sitting on the sand or in one of the restaurants near the beach. There are no problems with drinks and Thai food right on the coast: in the central part, rows of cafes line up every day and cafes are located. Along the beach itself there are peddlers selling corn, ice cream and other snacks. There are several massage points right on the beach and salons located along the streets.

Makashnitsy near the beach offering cocktails

In the southern part of the beach there is a Buddhist temple - Wat Baan Kamala. On the territory of the shrine you will find a bell tower, monastic cells, a school and the main building with painted walls and a statue of Buddha. The beauty of the temple cannot be compared with or. Wat Baan Kamala features rustic charm and tranquil seclusion. If you have time, check out this Buddhist temple, just be sure to cover your shoulders, cleavage, knees and stomach. It is customary to take off your shoes when entering a building.

There are many cafes along the beach in the central part

In the evening it is worth visiting the famous. There are many shops with souvenirs on the streets, you can take pictures in national clothes, see local crafts, a small terrarium and Bengal tigers, and ride an elephant. You can visit the park with dinner, which takes place in the golden palace of Kinari. The show is held every day except Thursday, in a stone palace with elephants. The village of Fantasy and the show will appeal to children. If you are relaxing with an adult group, you should give preference.

What to do in Kamala?

In the central part of the coast, vacationers are offered water sports: parachute, banana and aqua scooter. In the south, long-tail boats moor for trips along the beaches of Phuket. There are no places for snorkeling on Kamala; it is better to go to the islands for fish and corals.

During the low season from May to October, waves appear on Kamala. Here you can rent a surfboard or take lessons with an instructor. For those who like training, in the south, before the pass on, there is a Thai boxing camp where both group and individual classes are held.

In the center of the beach, on the embankment near the Tsunami Memorial, there is a small park with a playground and sports equipment. Kids will enjoy riding the slides or swinging on the swings. Access to the playground and use of exercise equipment is free. From the hill, a little north of the hotel Novotel Phuket Kamala offers a gorgeous view of the entire beach. If you wish, you can get there on foot along the main road, but be careful: there are no pedestrian paths.

View from observation deck to Kamala

If you get bored in Kamala, explore Phuket by city bus. Its stop is located near the local post office. A blue songthaew travels along the main road from Kamala through Surin and Bangtao to Phuket Town. By bus you will reach shopping centers Villa Market, and , and . Detailed information about the route

Restaurants and cafes

Kamala Beach is lined with vendors selling drinks, popcorn, ice cream and other foods. In the central part of the coast, restaurants and cafes, pop-up shops and stalls with, and are lined up in a row. The streets near the Print Kamala Hotel and the Tsunami Monument are lined with restaurants serving European food. I can recommend the German restaurant Kokosnuss, which offers pasta, schnitzels, sausages, yoghurts, pastries and much more. Located on the shore with a gorgeous view of the sea good restaurant Mamma Mia with European, Thai cuisine and. Another favorite of mine - Ohlala restaurant - is located on the main highway. The menu offers Thai classics, dishes from the north of Thailand, including khao soi soup, papaya salad, and European food.

Beach street with shops and restaurants

For a special occasion, try Plum Restaurant at the Cape Sienna Hotel. On the open terrace there are ordinary tables and round gazebos surrounded by water. The prices in the restaurant are above average, but the view is simply amazing. The menu includes Mediterranean, European and Thai seafood cuisine. And if you want to drink a cup of delicious Thai coffee, go to Doi Chang Coffee. Detailed information you will find about Kamala restaurants.

Night life

Kamala cannot boast of active evening entertainment. Several bars are located on the streets of the central part of the beach and along the main road. Perhaps the most famous are Kamala Beer Garden and the sports Aussie Pub. Towards the north you will find two beach clubs - the Phuket branch of Ibiza's famous Café Del Mar and HQ Beach Lounge. During the day, beach clubs play pleasant music suitable for lunch, and towards night there are parties.

Desperate partygoers should go, take a walk, look into bars, where, have a blast at a disco. Some hotels offer shuttles to Bangla Street or Jangceylon Shopping Centre. will cost 300-400 baht per car one way. The drive is only 10-15 minutes.

Markets and shops on Kamala Beach

The Kamala area cannot be called a paradise for shopaholics, but everything you need is there: exchange offices, markets, 24-hour mini-markets and a supermarket. scattered all over the beach, both on the embankment, near the Tsunami Monument, and several on the main highway. There are two markets on Kamala: opposite on Fridays and at the pass to Patong on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Big C Shopping Center

Groceries, ready meals, household chemicals, cosmetics and much more can be bought at the Big C supermarket on the main road, at Tesco Lotus Express or at Superchip. You will find souvenirs and beach accessories in shops on the embankment and on nearby streets. Don’t forget about: peddlers walking along the beach with elephants, tunics, and blankets. Be sure to bargain with them.

Kamala Beach – this beach can be called urban in the full sense of the word. It is located in the central part of Phuket island on its western side and north of the famous beach. In fact, this is the coast of the town of the same name, consisting not only of tourist buildings, but also of the houses of ordinary residents.

Description of the beach

This beach is not small, its length is about 2 km, while its width is very narrow (20 - 30 m). For a long time Kamala was quiet and quiet place. The beach served as a pier for fishing boats and for Thai people to relax. There were very few tourists there. However, in recent years, you can increasingly meet older people who have chosen this quiet and peaceful place as a second home.

This is understandable, all the benefits of civilization are at hand, and at the same time the sea is just a stone's throw away. In addition to those who moved here, there are now many package tourists here.

The sand on Kamala is white, similar to grains of salt. On beach line There are many hotels and the beach area next to them belongs to them. Accordingly, sand quality and purity can vary significantly.

The beach is popular, but much less noisy than or.

In my opinion, it is somewhat similar to , that is, it is relatively calm and a little village-like, but there are enough people. Cleanliness in Kamala is also okay. Only in the southern “wild” part can there be a lot of garbage.

Entering the water, depth and waves

The southern part of the beach is not suitable for a beach holiday. The shore there is rather dirty, there are a lot of stones and cobblestones. Local fishermen often park their boats there. Also on the southern part there is a rather flat entrance, you can walk for a long time to the depths. And in the central and northern parts, where there are umbrellas and sun loungers, the entrance, the closer to the north, the less flat.

The wide line of Kamala Bay favors the winds that create big waves. To the north of the beach they rise to heights of up to 3 m, and approaching the shore, they come across a network of underwater reefs and rise even higher. During the monsoon season, red warning flags appear on the beach. Swimming at this time is dangerous. Strong waves can hit you and carry you far from the shore.

Sunbeds and shade

There are not many sunbeds on the beach. In the most visited areas of the beach (center and north), you can rent a sunbed with an umbrella for the standard 100 baht. Hotels that have their own private areas of Kamala often put out additional rows of sun loungers that are available only to guests of the hotel.

The beach can change greatly in different seasons. In high season, the entire beach from the center to the north is one large field of sun loungers. There are a lot of people swimming in the water, the waves are quiet and smooth. In the low season there are few sunbeds; even after half an hour of walking you may not find one.

There is practically no natural shade on the beach, only if it is near the outer row of sunbeds adjacent to the trees, and in the first half of the day, when the sun is not yet so high.

Infrastructure

The beach itself has all the Thai attributes of a beach. Massage parlors, tent cafes, mini-markets and hundreds of sellers of cheap souvenirs, clothing, and beach accessories. There you can not only shop, but also rent a scuba diving device and explore the northern reefs.

In addition, according to many surfers, steep waves are an excellent source of adrenaline, but only experienced specialists should conquer them. If you are an excellent surfer, then Kamala will be your Everest during the wave season. Many available boats, boats and kayaks are also waiting for you on this beach.

Some tourists rent a boat and sail to one of the neighboring, more attractive beaches. But you can ride not only on boats, but also behind them with a parachute or on a banana boat.

Holidays on Kamala are not limited to typical entertainment. Hotels have yoga schools (meditating on one of the Kamala stones against the backdrop of the rising sun is worth a lot), authentic Thai massage parlors and Thai cooking schools, where you will really be taught how to cook Thai food perfectly.

The combination of beach and civilization gives undeniable advantages to Kamala. You can walk around the village, go to the Friday Market, where there is a large selection of goods not only beach-themed. There is also a mini Tesco and a small Big C.

A trip to the Kamala Temple will also not leave you indifferent, but the most interesting place is (Phuket FantaSea) - this is an incredible and biggest show on the island. In my opinion, it is more intended for children, although adults will also find it interesting.

Hundreds of artists, elephants and other exotic animals will tell you interesting story under the arches of the evening sky. But the Fantasy of Phuket is not limited to performance. It claims to be the largest amusement park in Phuket. There are many cafes, attractions, fun carnival-like games and, of course, shops.

The architecture of the Elephant Palace and other buildings is pleasing to the eye and stunning. The park itself is filled with helpful employees who will take care of you (they will tell you where the most interesting entertainment and other pleasures of life are). This park is located in the central part of the beach, just 300 m from the shore.

Houses and hotels on the beach

The entire coastline (1 strip) is occupied by expensive hotels, if we are talking about the central part of the beach. And hotels occupy the entire space from the shore to the main road, which goes far from the shore. In the northern part of the beach there are almost no hotels along the shore; instead, there are vacant lots surrounded by fences (future hotels?). And there the hotels will all be across the road from the beach, and their density is also low.

In terms of prices - the further from the coast, the cheaper, which is logical. You can even find a hostel starting from 200 baht per bed. On the other hand, luxury hotels, whose rooms offer an unsurpassed view of Kamala Bay, can cost more than 15 thousand baht per day.

In addition to price, an important factor is appearance. Here Kamala also provides a large selection. There are modern grotesque hotels made of glass and white stone, and there are cozy mini-coves-pools with wooden houses that form their own special system.

These photos were taken from a small area, which can be found if you follow from Kamala beach towards Surin (or vice versa, from Surin to Kamala), not far from Kamala, before reaching Laem Sing beach, there will be a small natural platform from which you can see this luxurious view of the entire Kamala beach.

Kamala Beach is a stunning beach in every way!

For us, Kamala Beach has become a source of harmony, natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere.

First of all, it is very beautiful, this immediately catches your eye as soon as you approach the beach. Here, tall palm trees lined up along the perimeter of the beach line so harmoniously combine with sea water of a delicate blue-turquoise color and soft white sand, which, in the rays of the sun, shimmers and plays in different shades, from snow-white to light beige and even gray -yellow.

And here are the happy newlyweds

Secondly, Kamala Beach is uncrowded and calm. In addition, there is no road right behind the beach, which gives additional silence. All this contributes to a calm, measured and relaxed holiday.

Length coastline Kamala Beach is almost 2 kilometers long, which is not small, and the width of the beach is about 20-30 meters, not much, but these meters are enough for relaxation. In addition, due to the fact that the beach smoothly merges into the embankment, visually, the beach strip appears much wider.

The sea water is clean. The beach is also quite clean and well maintained. There is natural debris from palm trees and washed out by the sea waves, but we did not notice any household garbage on the beach; it is clear that the beach is regularly cleaned.

For quieter relaxation and sunbathing, the northern side of the beach is more suitable. It is quieter here than in the central part of the beach. Here, in the farthest, northern point beach, there is a 4-star Hotel Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach. There is a public part of the beach adjacent to the hotel. Casuarina trees provide good cooling, which also act as a source of a pleasant smell.

The central part of the beach has all the necessary beach infrastructure. There is a toilet and shower, as well as some beach and water activities - banana boat rides, jet ski rides, parachute flights over the sea surface. You can rent a boat or kayak. And for even more relaxation, order a massage and relax under the gentle and skillful hands of Thai girls.

In search of coolness, you can take advantage of the natural shade coming from the palm trees growing along the perimeter of the beach, or rent a sun lounger and parasol, of which there are a great many in the central part of the beach. Price - 200 baht per day for two sun loungers and a sun umbrella.

The most South part The beach is not suitable for a beach holiday, it is a more “wild” place, the coastal area is dirty and boats are crowded together.

Well, thirdly. If you have already forgotten, then under these points we list the advantages of Kamala Beach)). Thirdly, Kamala does not end at one beach; Kamala can rightfully be called a fully developed provincial town of the same name. There is an embankment along the length of the beach, and in the center of Kamala there are several streets with an abundance of cafes and restaurants, bars and massage parlors, small shops and retail outlets, as well as exchange offices, hotels and guest houses.

There is a narrow promenade along the beach, one part of which is occupied by hotels, so it is calmer and conducive to walking.

In the central part of the beach there are cafes and restaurants, some of which are located right on the beach.

Near the embankment, in the central part of Kamala, there is a small green Park, which houses a cafe, a children's playground and historical monument- Tsunami Memorial Park.

Monument to the victims of the 2004 Tsunami

Moving from the park higher into the center of Kamala, you will certainly come out onto the busy Rim Hat Rd, along which there are numerous retail outlets, shops, massage parlors, money exchangers, cafes and restaurants, as well as hotels and guest houses.

Cons of Kamala Beach

For us personally, the only downside of the beach is the rivers that flow into the sea. There are several of these on the beach. These rivers are far from ideal, dirty, but not stinking. However, when swimming in the sea, you completely forget about this. In addition, the flow of “stinky rivers” into the sea on the beach strip is typical for most beaches in Phuket.

Entertainment and attractions of Kamala

One of the main and outstanding entertainments of Kamala is the colorful and large-scale show “Phuket Fantasy”. Phuket FantaSea, it's a whole theme park, an entertaining performance that features beautiful scenery, many actors and trained animals.

On Fridays, an evening market (in Phuket it is called a night market) is organized in Kamala. At the market you can buy clothes and souvenirs, as well as enjoy Thai cuisine, the dishes of which will be prepared before your eyes.

You can also walk to the Kamala Temple (Wat Kamala). The temple grounds are quiet and cozy. And the bright buildings, with red tiled roofs and the sculpture of Buddha are made in the traditional Buddhist style and are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. The temple is located in the southern part of the beach, near the school.

Where to stay in Kamala

Near Kamala Beach there is a wide variety of accommodation, ranging from the most expensive and respectable 5-star resort hotels, and ending with budget hotels and guest houses. All accommodation facilities in Kamala are available.

How to get to Kamala Beach

From the airport by taxi, or you can rent a motorbike or car. Well, or, which is the fastest and easiest thing, you can order an individual transfer in advance. At any time of the day, at the airport, a driver will be waiting for you with a sign with your name and surname written on it. To order a taxi, just provide your flight details.

On public transport with a transfer in Phuket Town.

In songthaew. Or on foot. From Surin Beach the road is close and takes about 30 minutes, passing over the sea and along the cape. It’s further from Bang Tao beach, but walking is quite possible.

From other beaches and points of the island, also with a transfer in Phuket town, rented a bike or taxi/tuk-tuk.

How we travel cheap!

Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is a resort spa hotel located on Kamala Beach (Phuket Province). It offers a restaurant, open pool, as well as parking and Wi-Fi (free). Many tourists consider the Kamala Hotel Resort Spa one of the best options chosen for their holiday accommodation.

Kamala Beach

Kamala (Phuket) is a beach on a resort island that may appeal primarily to lovers of measured, calm and inexpensive holiday. The cost of staying at a hotel here is much lower than on Karon Beach or Patong. The length of the coastline is about 2 km. This significantly exceeds the length of the coastlines on other popular Phuket beaches.

In general, Kamala (Phuket) is a kind of village. So, if Patong can already be compared with Pattaya, then here development is still, one might say, in its infancy. This is partly due to the tsunami that occurred in 2004. The entire island was affected, but Kamala Beach suffered the most.

As already mentioned, the beach is quite spacious and long, which, of course, captivates many. There is no such crowd that can be seen in Patong. Many people like the relative uncrowding and tranquility of Kamala Beach.

Peculiarities

One of the main features of Kamala Beach is the Phuket Fantasea (Fantasy Show) held here. This is an amazing show based on the story of Prince Kamala. The show is incredibly colorful, it is distinguished by the use of unusual beautiful costumes, the participation of illusionists, acrobats and clowns. But main feature performances are elephants, actively participating in the performance and amusing the audience.

It should be noted that there are practically no Russian tourists here. Holidays here are more suitable for older people and couples with children. Undoubtedly, Kamala will be comfortable for those who do not like noise and bustle.

How to get there?

Kamala Beach is accessible from any of the popular beaches in Phuket. If you discard the option of having your own bike or taxi, you can use by shuttle bus, plying the route to Kamala from Phuket Town. In general, there are several types of bus routes that connect popular beaches.

If you are coming from the city, you need to take the bus at Ranong Market and follow it to the final stop. The fare is 40 baht (71.20 rubles) per person. It is a little more expensive than other beaches, but the distance from the city to Kamala is slightly longer.

Experienced travelers advise tourists, when returning home from the beach, to walk up the road a few hundred meters. Here you can find a wonderful place for memorable photos, similar to observation deck. The view from here is simply stunning.

Description of the beach

Tourists who choose Kamala Beach for their holiday speak favorably about the water, sand and degree of cleanliness on the territory. Here, in their opinion, everything is quite acceptable. They note a huge shoal, because of which those who want to swim at low tide have to go very far from the shore.

When the sea is rough and there are big waves, sand rises from the bottom. Some may think that the water is dirty, but this is not true, they say knowledgeable tourists. And yet it is unlikely that you will be able to see the fish at such a time.

Where can I eat?

As elsewhere in similar places, there are many cafes along the entire coastline. The cost of food is average for Phuket. Together you can have a good meal for about 150-200 baht (267-356 rubles). You can also have a snack on the beach with sweet corn, which can be cooked on the grill here.

Kamala Beach: which hotel to choose?

Although the infrastructure of Kamala Beach is far from ideal, as many believe, there are still plenty of hotels here. Particularly popular is Novotel, which locates its comfortable houses directly on the seashore.

The cost of a holiday here is not cheap: from 5,000 baht (890 rubles) per day. This is understandable: this price is justified by the location right next to the sea. There are also Andara Resort Villas, luxury villas whose prices start from 32,000 baht (RUB 56,960) per night!

There are also many small hotels and guest houses located on Kamala Beach. If you wish, you can stay in one of them.

For those who are planning a long vacation (2 months or more), it makes sense to rent a town house. It is a spacious lodge with many amenities, including a swimming pool. In Kamala, unlike Patong, where everything is more expensive, such housing, according to tourists, can be found for 20,000 baht (35,600 rubles) per month.

Enough wide choose accommodation is provided to vacationers by Kamala Beach. Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is one of the most popular hotels.

The Kamala Resort and Spa is considered by many to be one of the best options in the city.

Among the top three popular places holiday on the island and well suited for a relaxing holiday by the sea. Its peculiarity is that the coastal route goes to the east and does not separate the beach itself and residential area. Thanks to this, there are hotels that can truly be considered first line. This place is also much calmer than others, where cars and motorcycles are constantly scurrying around, filling the air with exhaust and noise. Kamala Beach beach is equidistant from both and about twenty kilometers away. The total length of the beach is approximately one and a half kilometers, and the width of the sand strip is from five to thirty meters.

Conventionally, Kamala Beach in Phuket can be divided into three parts.

  1. South. In the south, the strip of sand is no wider than five meters. It is there that the berths for excursion boats are located and therefore the water is quite dirty, and there are no umbrellas or sun loungers on the shore.
  2. Central. Kamala Beach itself begins after the road turns east. Geographically, this is the central part of the beach. There are a lot of people on all days, sun loungers and umbrellas stand like soldiers in a parade - in several rows. All types of water activities are available, from bananas and cheesecakes to jet skis and jet skis. Right along the strip of sand there are cafes and restaurants, as well as massage parlors.
  3. Northern. The northern part of the beach is the calmest, there are not too many tourists there, but they are the guests of first-line hotels. Outside guests are not driven, they can also use sunbeds and umbrellas. According to many family tourists, northern Kamala is best place for relaxation and swimming.

Natural conditions on Kamala Beach

Sprawling palm trees and casuarinas (horsetail plants) grow along the entire coastline of Kamala Beach. Until noon they cover the sand with thick shadow. During high tides, the strip of sand narrows to a few meters, so you can literally plunge into the sea from a running start. The sand itself is grayish; as you move south, more and more small stones appear in it.

In the south and north of the beach, the entrance to the sea is very gentle, and the southern part is shallower, which is why it is used for mooring boats. If you want to go deeper, then go to the central part, but during low tide it also becomes shallow. You can safely enter the water: there are no large stones or fragments of coral.

The color of the water changes depending on the time of day. In the morning, when the rays glide over the surface of the sea, it is bright turquoise. In the afternoon and evening it becomes grayish due to the sand on the bottom. Which is an optical illusion, the water is as gentle and clean as on the beaches or.

Cleanliness level

Due to the abundance of tourists, Kamala Beach in Phuket is not clean. The most thorough cleaning is on the northern edge, where the Novotel hotel is located, as well as in the center, where a strip of sand is allocated to the Kamala Beach Resort hotel.

It is worth noting that for some reason long green branches broken off from casuarinas are not considered garbage. Therefore, their number increases with distance from water.

Beach infrastructure

Vacationers on Kamala Beach are provided with umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. A set of two sun loungers and an umbrella cost about 200 baht per day. Services are permanently offered, a session of which can be obtained not only in a salon nearby, but also right on the sand.

There is a path along the shore. It separates social and cultural enterprises - cafes, souvenir shops - from the beach. In the northern part of the beach, hotel doors open onto this path. A little further from the sea, next to the police station, there are sellers of hot cakes and ice cream - the so-called. It's cheaper there than in a cafe, but lunch on a shady veranda overlooking the sea looks more attractive. The average bill at a beach cafe is about five hundred baht for two persons.

The northern part of the beach is attractive because of the club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which opened in 2016. It has a swimming pool. In addition to all kinds of dishes, they also serve live music. The main action begins after six in the evening, when vacationers move from their sun loungers to the dance floor. There is also a bar and a VIP area. On weekends, the crazy fun starts from 14:00.
