If you are preparing for a trip to Bali, you have probably already heard that local beaches more suitable for surfing than relaxing beach holiday on a sun lounger. The location of the island is such that it is almost always subject to “invasion” of waves. The Bali coastline consists of high cliffs, like walls protecting from the wildness of the sea elements. Therefore, before the trip, it is important to decide in which part of the island to spend your vacation. Only in certain parts of the island there are calm Bali beaches for swimming, which are suitable for a quiet holiday relaxation and tranquil family vacation with splashing kids. And in this article I will share my personal selection of such beaches.

Most of the beaches without waves are located on the southernmost tip of Bali - on the Bukit Peninsula. As a rule, this is where package tours are sold by Russian travel agencies. Sometimes cheaper options offer a trip to Kuta, but this is clearly not the beach where you can swim in the sea calmly. Therefore, first we will take a detailed look at the best Bali beaches for swimming in the Bukit area, and then in other areas of the island.

Nusa Dua beach in Bali

If you are thinking about a trip to Bali, then undoubtedly choose Nusa Dua. This is one of the most popular beaches with the best hotels on the island. The water here is turquoise, there are practically no waves, there is a wonderful entrance to the sea, and the sand is the softest. A holiday in Nusa Dua will be truly relaxing.

If you are traveling on your own, it is not necessary to choose hotels on the first line. The beach is absolutely free and unfenced, so it can be accessed not only by guests of nearby hotels, but also by those staying further away. But, of course, living right by the sea is a great pleasure, although not cheap.

Before booking a hotel, I recommend that you always look for discounts and compare prices through HotelLook, a hotel search engine from the famous AviaSales brand. Sometimes you can find Bali hotels on it with discounts of up to 50%!

Perhaps the only drawback of this beach is that during your vacation you can get quite tired from “doing nothing.” Many tourists do not go further than Nusa Dua and the surrounding area, so their impressions of Bali remain rather vague.

In order not to become a victim of boredom, I advise you to pay attention to one-day excursions around the island with Russian speaking guide- And . Or you can independently plan accommodation in different parts of Bali to see it from all angles and absorb its magical atmosphere. Be sure to stay 2-3 days in Ubud and get to the volcanoes near Kintamani.

Geger Beach Bali

Locals distinguish the southernmost part of Nusa Dua into a separate beach called Geger, although in fact both beaches stretch as one whole along coastline. Accordingly, the beaches are very similar in appearance. At least the type of sand, the color of the water and the absence of large waves clearly unite them, and the general atmosphere on the beaches is identical.

But there are fewer people on Geger and only a few hotels, and therefore the holiday here will be quieter and not crowded. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle and a lot of people, then Geger will be an ideal place for a vacation.

Pandawa Beach in Bali (Pandawa Beach)

One of the most unusual beaches in Bali. Its distinctive feature is the expressive rock formations that separate Pandava from the road and the entire island with a wall. Locals call this beach Kutuh Beach. It is especially suitable for those who are looking for Bali beaches for swimming with children, because... a calm sea without waves, easy access to the water and snow-white sand, from which various castles are so beautifully molded, will delight both the child and his parents.

If you settle a little inland from Pandawa beach, you can find beautiful inexpensive options accommodation in the price category from 1000 rubles. per day, you can view them on Booking.com. But if you want to live in this area with sea views, then this option is offered at the luxurious villas Pandawa Cliff Estate and Villa Karang Putih, which are located on the cliff. Accommodation in them is especially suitable for newlyweds and married couples.

White Sand Beach

If you are looking for Bali beaches for swimming with white sand, then this beach fully reflects its name. The sand on it is really white and soft, like flour. In general, this is quite rare for the east coast, because... on the beaches nearby, on the contrary, soot-black sand crunches under your feet - the result of the proximity to the Agung volcano.

For most tourists, this beach is secret, so it is not crowded. White Sand Beach is beautiful, tranquil and free of big waves. There are cafes with freshly squeezed juices and cocktails, sun loungers for relaxing, and you can snorkel in the sea, looking at tropical sea life. There are no hotels near White Sand Beach; you will have to get here by your own transport.

Jimbaran Beach Bali

One of the few beaches on the west coast of Bali where the sea is relatively calm. Of course, there are waves here, but they are much smaller than in neighboring Kuta, Seminyak or Legian, and the bottom is good and the depth near the shore is shallow. Accordingly, you can swim calmly without fear of not feeling the bottom with your foot, and swimming in Jimbaran will be accessible for children. Although I advise you to go here with older children, and not just toddlers.

Jimbaran has a fairly developed infrastructure with an abundance of restaurants and hotels to suit every taste. Again, Jimbaran is relatively close to all significant places and getting from here to various attractions of the island is clearly easier than from the very south of Bali.

In addition, the advantage is that holidays on Jimbaran are often cheaper than in Nusa Dua and other beaches in Bukin. Thanks to the long coastline, there are many hotels for every budget. But at the same time, the crowds of tourists on the beach are not particularly noticeable due to the fact that everyone somehow disperses along the shore. You can always find a secluded corner to relax.

As a conclusion, I note that whatever one may say, the most beautiful beaches in Bali for swimming and have a relaxing holiday are located in the south of the island. Of course, there is White Sand Bech in the east and Jimbaran in the west, but these are exceptions rather than the general rule, because... Western beaches are more suitable for surfing, and eastern ones for snorkeling. Accordingly, when planning a trip, I recommend looking for hotels in the south of the Bukit Peninsula.

# Indonesia Guide to Bali

To book any hotel at a discount on Booking.com. It works like cashback - the money is returned to the card after leaving the hotel.

The beaches of Bali are not exactly what tourists usually expect from them 😎 This is not the Maldives... and there are not many Bounty-style beaches, you still need to look for them! More often on paradise island they fly for surfing, nature and authenticity, rather than for a beach holiday. Therefore, before buying plane tickets, enter the coordinates best beaches in Bali to the map maps.me and rent a bike or car

For pioneers of beach Bali, I advise you to take individual tour with a Russian guide -

I will show you photos of Bali beaches from two vacations - December 2016 and 2017. The recommendations are my subjective ones, there are more good beaches there, but I didn’t go there for a tan, most of devoted time to the jungle, rice fields and simple relaxation. MY BEACH MAP

WHITE SAND BEACHES IN SOUTH BALI

Jimbaran Beach

It is located near Denpasar airport, the sand is white, fine, the bottom is flat, no big waves were noticed. The temperature of the water in the ocean feels + 28. I advise you to choose the left side of the beach for swimming, in Google Maps it is Pantai Muaya , we parked the car for free next to the temple (-8.782889, 115.161914). By the way, enter all coordinates with a minus sign, since Bali is located below the equator. Sunbeds are available for money, but we didn't take them. We sat down on the chairs of a grandmother selling coconuts and beer. In the distance in the photo you can see luxury bungalows. My photo with a coconut was taken on Jimbaran beach

Jimbaran Beach is also known for its fish restaurants, they are located closer to its center, choose any one, looking into the aquariums with the catch indoors. People arrive at 17:00 to take their trump seats and enjoy the sunset (in winter it is at 18:30). The price tag for seafood and fish is average, but closer to European, but keep in mind the + 15% tax on top and + for service.

To the right of the fish restaurants, the runway of Denpasar Airport is clearly visible, and planes land here every 5 minutes. They also sell corn here and musicians entertain guests with songs in all languages of the world. For some reason, the Balinese chose “A glass of vodka on the table” for us. I paid them 50 thousand rupees (3 euros)

Pantai Tegal Wangi Jimbaran
There is a secluded wild cove very close by ( -8.781397, 115.141482)🌊 Besides us, there were also several romantic couples hiding behind the rocks from the sun and spectators🌴☀ Andrey frolicked in the ocean, looked like a child, it was his first swim in the Indian Ocean 🏊

The shore there is rocky, I didn’t find a place to sunbathe, and there were big waves, but the place is damn beautiful and wild. Maybe it's quieter there at low tide

Balangan Beach
Balangan beach-one of the most photogenic beaches, so many wedding photographers hang out on the cape (-8.790441, 115.125056). The ceremonies are symbolic, with a wedding arch, a white dress - obviously just for the sake of a photo shoot.

If you go down to the beach from the opposite edge (-8.793569, 115.122900), you will find yourself in a simple eatery where you can rent a board right there. But the entrance to the sea here is unpleasant, even if the photo with white sand fascinates you... but there are a lot of boulders in the water, and the waves knock you off your feet. This place is more for surfing

I’ve been here twice, and I can’t say that it’s pleasant to swim. On the other side of the beach we found a place where we could swim close to the shore.

Beach in Canggu
We lived in this town for 5 days, booking a hotel room Sunset Villa Bali, which was deserted due to a recent volcanic eruption. For 800 rubles per day for 2 people we got complete privacy, comfort and a swimming pool with a kitchen. In the morning we had breakfast at Hungry Bird Coffee, what a gorgeous cappuccino! By the way, using this link you will receive 20 euros as a gift for your first booking on Arnbnb.

We lived 7 minutes walk from Finns Beach Club, the beach there is long, there are many small bars where you can lie down in exchange for juice and beer. The sand here is no longer white, but gray, but pleasant for walking. Swimming in Canggu is difficult because of the big waves, but it is an excellent place for surfing.

Andrey rented a board - 50 thousand rupees (3 euros) for 2 hours for Batu Balong Beach

A short video review of these beaches

Gala's Beach or Nikko Beach
These beaches are very close ( on the map), respectable hotels are located along the road. And it was the best beach in Bali, moreover, deserted, there were no waves near the ocean, white sand of coral origin was under our feet 🏜 We parked the car at the temple (-8.833364, 115.213052) and went down the steep steps.

We found a deserted cave to relax in the shade, where there were sun loungers from a luxury hotel 🏖 and brazenly took advantage of them! We swam with a mask, collected shells, listened to the sound of the ocean waves 🌊🐚🐳 I never stopped thanking Agung volcano for deserted Bali in December 😘If you compare my vacation in 2016 and 2017, the island then and now is heaven and earth! 👏 If you are afraid to drive a bike or car on the island, I advise you to take an individual excursion. Inexpensive accommodation close to Nikko Beach - or luxury hotel The Ritz-Carlton Bali

I made a slow motion video about the best beach in Bali, in our opinion.

And I would like to say a few more words about The worst white sand beaches in Bali are:

  1. Sanur Beach! I didn’t even take a photo, there is a swamp there, not a sea, swimming in shallow water with algae is still a pleasure. Don't waste your vacation at a retirement resort...
  2. Padang Padang Beach, where the movie “Eat, Pray, Love” was filmed (report about it here). In the photo it looks like a paradise, but there were so many people that we didn’t get a buzz. Muddy water, although the entrance is pleasantly shallow. Entrance fee is 10 thousand rupees (70 euro cents), parking is paid, the cafe on the beach is lame and dirty. After visiting crowded publicized tourist places in Bali, Andrey and I decided to travel only to little-known and natural beauties

In the video you will see a real picture from Padang Padang beach

Black sand beaches in Bali

Lipach Beach in Amed area
We went to the north of Bali not for the beaches, but for the silence and low prices. It's funny, but this region is underdeveloped; asphalt was laid only in the early 2000s. But we really liked the calm sea, although it is a little colder Indian Ocean(maybe +26). We booked a room in Bayu Cottages Hotel for 12 euros for two with breakfast, and again we were alone! Of course, in season and not with an erupting volcano, it costs more 😜 The Bali Sea is ideal for swimming 🏊fishing 🎣snorkeling and diving. We relaxed on Lipakh Beach, a secluded cove with an incredible underwater world! The color of the sand is black, it is very fine, but at the entrance to the sea there is white sand, so the water is clear.

If this is your first time booking accommodation on Arnbnb, use $25 discount

This same one Lipah beach on a sunny morning. Check out the transparency and calm!

From Ubud we got here for at least 2 hours along narrow roads and jungles, renting a car for 10 euros per day. I can also recommend taking an excursion to the north of Bali to see Amed, swim on the beach, visit water palaces and Lempuyang Temple overlooking . We saw him splashing in the hotel pool. From there you can see the sea, and it takes 15 seconds to go down to it.

The most interesting thing in Amed is snorkeling. We had our own mask and snorkel, but here every boy offers them for rent. So are the boats. Also, for 300 thousand rupees (18 euros) you can go fishing at dawn. Diving enthusiasts also come here to dive to sunken ships.

The big advantage of the north of Bali over the tourist south was cheap fish. Once we bought 3 pieces (3 euros) from a fisherman on a boat for 50 thousand. And then all the days we ate at Amed Resto, I ordered mackerel with rice and vegetables for only 2 euros

Beach at Les Village

In the Tejakul area we stayed in an amazing hotel with a diving center Sea Communities - Segara Lestari Villas, we came across it by chance thanks to Arnby's after reading the reviews. Everything is wonderful in Less Village - silence, absence of tourists and unspoiled locals, huge portions of food from the hostess for dinner, coconut, mango and rambutan plantations, the sound of the sea even in our room. But no beach, although black sand is mixed with huge stones It didn’t scare the local kids; they swam. We lived in an eco-village for 5 days, and were still pleased with the “other Bali”

Lovina Beach in Bali
The beaches in the north of Bali are generally not pleasing; there are only a few civilized ones suitable for swimming. We read about Lovina in the north of Bali, we arrived, and there was a shallow, muddy and gray sea, the Sea of Azov... Using the map we found a civilized beach for swimming - Spice Beach Club Bali Having paid as much as 3 euros for fresh watermelon, the sea here was also not pleasing, but we used the sun loungers and toilet.

Locals pestered us to rent boats to see dolphins, but in Montenegro I see them in the Tivat Bay, where our yacht is moored. We left Lovina to swim in the hot springs

Beaches for swimming in Bali in the east

Few of the tour package tourists realize that in the east of the island there is wonderful beaches with white sand and no waves. This is also the Bali Sea, not the ocean.

Blue Lagoon Beach in Bali- this is a “must see” place. The road from Ubud here is not difficult, there are few cars, the road is wide in places (-8.529756, 115.513304

This beach is located a 2-minute drive from the famous Padangbay pier, from where boats depart to the paradise Gili Islands. We never made it to them, but the beach holidays there are much more luxurious!

Secret Beach in Bali or Bias Tugel Beach
It is on the other side of Padangbay. Incredibly beautiful white sand beach, few people, silence and romantic atmosphere. Parking is free, then you need to make your way through the jungle along a path, it is better to wear shoes. I was there in 2016 - this is one of the best beaches in Bali without waves
clear sea, which tourists know little about.

I hope that my stories about Bali and photos of the beaches will help organize your trip to the paradise island correctly 😄 Whatever rumors there are about the beaches of Bali - that it is not possible to swim, that they are dirty or suitable only for surfers - remember that you always have a choice, the main thing is the maps.me map on the phone, and under the butt - the seat of the bike or car 🚙 because public transport not on the island

Where to buy insurance in Bali - which one is better?

Nobody forces you to spend extra money on insurance in Bali, whether to buy it or not is your own business, they don’t check you at the airport... But remember that Indonesia has a different climate, water and food, almost everyone in Bali gets an upset stomach from Indonesian kitchens. Here you can catch dengue fever from the bite of one type of mosquito and lie around with fever and vomiting for a week or two. And no one is safe from minor accidents or falling off a bike, given the left-hand traffic and terrible traffic on the island.

I would recommend buying insurance for Bali from a company. Their assistance in Russia is the company Mondial, which recently changed its name to Allianz Global Assistance. Believe me, this is the most reliable in the insurance industry, the main office is in Paris. This is the only assistance with an “AA” rating by Standard & Poor’s, and it is the one that will save you on the island in insurance cases, as well as pay for your treatment. You can check the price of insurance in Bali in this form by entering the flight dates and the country of Indonesia.

Rainy season in Bali 2018

Winter is the rainy season in Bali, although we didn’t see much of it, most of it comes at night. Temperature all year round comfortable and does not rise above +31, but humid. In the north of the island in the Amed area there is much less rain than in the center in the Ubud area, where there is a jungle, due to the fact that volcanoes do not allow clouds to travel to the north. In the south of the island it also rains less often in winter than in Ubud, but near the ocean it is stuffy and hot.

It is better to fly to Bali in spring and early autumn, and summer is the peak tourist season, there is little rainfall, but there are a lot of tourists and high prices.

Tickets to Bali - how much does it cost to fly to the island

Please note that we flew not from Moscow, but from Montenegro, and this is an additional plane, so the flight was more expensive. For two people we spent 1,545 euros on Turkish Airlines for the route Podgorica - Istanbul - Jakarta. Thanks to two hotels during transit, I consider this a low price, although Qatar Airways (from Belgrade) or Singapore Airlines"(from Milan) were cheaper. And from the capital of Indonesia to Denpasar airport, another 200 euros went back and forth.

From Moscow, Kyiv, St. Petersburg and Belgrade you can fly to Bali with Qatar Airlines, Singapore Airlines or Emirates.

Any tourist who has flown to rest in Bali simply must visit at least one beach in order to gain pleasant emotions and experience the real pleasure of relaxation. But the same beach cannot please everyone.

Some people like a secluded place, some like a large crowd of people, some care about the transparency of the water, some like the whiteness of the sand, and some need big waves for surfing. Therefore, to find a suitable beach, you need to go on a short excursion to their location. We have prepared for you an article about the best and most famous beaches in Bali. Check it out, and then all you have to do is visit them and choose your favorite one.

It is immediately necessary to note several general points: there are easily accessible beaches, which are usually crowded with people, and “hidden” ones, where there is an opportunity for privacy. Also, some will require a nominal fee to enter the territory. These are mainly beaches located near hotels, where regular cleanliness and comfort are maintained.

Beaches in northern Bali

Lovina Bali reviews ( Lovina beach)

If we talk about beaches in northern Bali, then only one is worth mentioning - Lovina, which is 8 km long. The dark beach attracts a large number of divers, for whom there is a wonderful underwater world. From Denpasar Airport the place is 3 hours away.

Beaches in eastern Bali

Characterized by calm waves, the beaches are often excellent for swimming and a cozy, relaxing holiday.

Masceti beach Bali

An interesting black sand beach 20 minutes from Denpasar. Nice quiet beach, but sometimes too many tourists. Swimming is difficult, only possible in very calm weather.

Beaches in western Bali

In the western part of the island, the beach infrastructure is not developed. The coastline is mostly rocky. Despite the fact that it is almost impossible to swim on the western beaches, this is an ideal place to enjoy pristine nature, take magnificent photos of rocks and the ocean, and relax alone with nature and silence.

Bali beaches for swimming

Tourists who prefer swimming should look for beaches with calm and clean waves, fine sand, a safe bottom and coastline.

Not all Bali beaches can boast such positive qualities for swimming. Often the reason for this is that there are volcanoes on the island, the ashes of which are strewn throughout the surrounding area. From here, the shores of many beaches are not very attractive. Due to the action of the volcanoes, the water itself was partially damaged and became cloudy. In addition, there are many more excellent places for quality surfing in Bali than for swimming. This is due to large and strong waves, which are in no way compatible with swimming in the water.

Beaches with crystal clear water and low wave activity are excellent for swimming. Almost everything fits the description eastern beaches Bali: “Amed”, “Tulamben”, “Padangbey”, “Candidasa”. The following beaches are also convenient for diving: Tejakula, Seririt and Pemuterran.

If we talk about swimming without diving with equipment, then, of course, you need to take into account the covering of the beach itself, so that the sand is fine and pleasant in color, and also without a large amount of volcanic ash and pebbles. Taking these parameters into account, we can highlight the following beaches: Nusa Dua, Sanur, Dreamland, Padang Padang and White Sand Beach. On these beaches, in addition to the cleanest water, you can also enjoy clean air, complete absence of waves or their shallow presence, swimming here is safe and enjoyable.

If you don’t mind the sand mixed with dark ash, then you can visit Amed beach for swimming. The water around the beach is also great for swimming with the whole family.

Considering all of the above options, it is difficult to give preference to one of them, since each has its own pros and cons. This depends not only on the natural component. Each beach has its own infrastructure: in some places it is more suitable for noisy entertainment, in others for cultural recreation, and somewhere to create a romantic atmosphere. As a rule, there are different people on different beaches, in some places the number of Russians predominates, in others you can hardly find them. Therefore, the choice of a beach for swimming often depends on individual preferences and desires.

Bali white sand beaches

Bali's beaches are not the most attractive when compared to, for example, Hawaiian beaches. But despite this, there are places to have a good time. Unfortunately, not all beaches have white or even light sand; many are covered with dark dust or mixed with it. In this regard, they do not have the most best view. There are many beaches with a lot of pebbles or rocky areas along the coast. Such places are more suitable for diving, but not all of them, but only with weak waves.

There are beaches with powerful waves where any swimming is prohibited for safety reasons. But such places create a romantic view where you can watch the waves crash against the rocks.

Bali beaches with white sand: White Sand Beach (Bias Tugel), Nusa Dua, Sanur.

Basically, all beautiful beaches become objects for swimming, so you can learn more about them later when we describe swimming beaches in more detail.

Bali photos of beaches and hotels

The beauty and comfort of some beaches directly depends on the nearby hotels, as they make great efforts to ensure cleanliness. In addition to the environment, hotel owners are also concerned about the pastime of tourists; for this purpose, various entertainment complexes, shops, bars, spas, exchange offices and so on. Of course, where everything is available to relax as much as possible, there will be a lot of people there. Many hotels monitor the beach infrastructure, the more famous ones include: “Jemeluk Bay” and “Lovina”, “Kuta”.

As mentioned above, for comfortable swimming, beaches must have appropriate characteristics for convenience. The names of the most suitable ones were also “voiced”, but from the same names and general description It is hardly possible to understand whether this place is suitable for you or not. Therefore, we bring to your attention more detailed information.

White Sand Beach Bali

You should start with the most attractive and popular beach with white and gray sand - White Sand, located on the eastern side of the island. There are many hotels on the beach to suit every taste and color, as they say. These include both expensive five-star and simpler hotels. The beach location is just a quarter of an hour from Center Point Pier. The presence of “White” in the name of the beach is not for nothing. Previously, the beach consisted only of fine white sand, but recently it has become increasingly mixed with pebbles, causing the color to change slightly.

The length of the beach reaches 3 kilometers, so, despite the large number of tourists, you can easily find a free place. The depth of the sea is pleasing, which is great for children. To get to more deep places you will have to stomp for a long time towards the ebb tide. Conventionally, the beach can be divided into northern and southern parts. The first one is calmer and less crowded. The second has a large number of people and infrastructure.

Many bars and cafes make the beach a pleasant place to hang out. There is also a sufficient number of ATMs, pharmacies, shops, hotels, spas, and karaoke bars. They help you navigate in Russian. In the evenings you can see fascinating fire shows.

Beach Blue Lagoon Bali Lagoon beach)

A small, incredibly beautiful place is the blue lagoon, 500 meters long. The sand is fine, yellow, and in places you can see volcanic dust, but this does not spoil the special appearance; on the contrary, it looks more elegant. The water is clear with a blue tint, which is simply breathtaking. It is better not to leave children unattended, as although the waves are small here, they are still present. It won't take long to reach the depth. For variety, you can climb the volcanic formations that are located on both sides of the beach.

In the absence of waves, the beach looks especially romantic. There is a hotel and bar nearby. The only negative is the garbage that washes up on the shore after the storm.

Jemeluk Bay Beach Bali

Quiet, calm crescent-shaped bay. The surrounding area is covered with lush greenery and the water is crystal clear. The beach is great for scuba diving: a lot of marine life, uniquely beautiful corals, and at the bottom you can find interesting sunken things.

For those who like to sunbathe on the shore, this is not very pleasant news, since the surface is strewn with small pebbles. The place is also ideal for regular swimming, as there are weak tides and waves, warm and clean water, and well-developed infrastructure, thanks to the provision of a nearby five-star hotel.

The depth begins relatively quickly, so those who are not good swimmers should stay closer to the shore. But even along it you can get great pleasure from relaxation. From here there is a beautiful view of the sunset, which can be observed from a small boat that is available for rent.

Due to the dark color of the beach, there are not many people here, so you can have a good rest with your significant other or the whole family.

Dreamland Beach Bali

Great place to sunbathe. The sand here is soft and beautiful. True, it is unlikely that you will be able to plunge into the sea, since the waves are often strong. But during low tide, you can choose the moment when the sea calms down to plunge headlong into this beauty. There are a sufficient number of bungalows and restaurants on the coast. The infrastructure is not poorly developed and is improving every year.

Thanks to strong waves, surfing is well developed. From the beach, the view of the ocean is magnificent, the water is clear with a turquoise tint. For convenience, there are umbrellas and sun loungers available for rent along the entire beach. There are a lot of young people on the beach who spend their time surfing.

You can get there from Kuta within half an hour. The roads are of high quality; for convenience, you can rent cars or bikes.

Green Bowl Beach Bali

This beach is perfect for those who are tired of noisy restaurants and bars, as there is no infrastructure here. The golden sandy strip of the beach is located under the cliffs. The water is emerald in color and shallow in depth. Although there are no services on the beach that monitor cleanliness, there will be no complaints about it.

But it should be noted that relaxation on the beach is only available during low tide, since otherwise it is completely under water. Some people, especially those who don't like to move a lot, may find the long walk up/down to the beach tiring.

Green Ball is located on the Bukit Peninsula, and if your hotel is located in Kuta, you will have to get there within an hour by bike. By taxi the journey will take less time.

Closer to the rocks, algae often washes up in waves; the view doesn’t get worse, but even better. You can arrange a wonderful photo shoot. Although many people consider the beach dangerous due to strong waves, this is not always the case. Sometimes near the shore the waves are weak and pleasant. The water temperature is acceptable, up to 26 degrees.

Beach Bias Tugel Bali

The snow-white beach "Bias Tugel" with a minimum amount of infrastructure pleases people with the opportunity to get a beautiful tan and swim in shallow emerald waters. To the right of the beach there are volcanic “growths” on which the waves gracefully break, creating a kind of fountain of spray. Particularly pleasing are the small depressions in which water collects, creating something like bathtubs with impeccably clean and clear water.

There are restaurants and cafes nearby, as well as a port from which you can sail to other islands. The beach itself is hidden and not immediately noticeable. There are not many people, especially in the morning, a decent crowd gathers towards lunch, but there is enough space for everyone, although the beach is not very large - a maximum of 400 meters.

Kuta Beach

The popular grey-white beach is always full of people; it is lonelier only in the mornings. In the evening you can admire the beautiful sunset. Despite the incessant waves, many people express a desire to swim. The sand is fine and soft, which allows you to have a good rest on the shore. The water is clear and turquoise. Getting to the place is very easy, as it is located near the tourist center of Bali, where there are many hotels, shops, cafes, spas, bars and other necessary and useful establishments.

After watching an indescribable sunset, you can head to the nightclubs, where you have the opportunity to stay until the morning. Prices on the beach are comparatively lower than in other beach areas. There are a lot of young people, some of them are active in surfing.

The shore stretches for thousands of meters, but it is advisable to come to the beach early in the morning, since if you arrive later, you may encounter the problem of choosing a place. There are really a lot of people here. But thanks to the developed infrastructure, no one will be bored; everyone will find something to their liking.

The golden sand reaches tall trees where you can hide from the scorching sun. But a place under the shade is always a tasty piece of the beach, so be prepared for the fact that it will already be occupied by someone.

The island of Bali is not only beautiful beaches, but also amazing sights, so I suggest you read the article Sights of the island of Bali, which will tell you about them all interesting places on the island with detailed instructions on the visit and symbols on the map.

The wide Balangan beach with fine yellowish sand is not crowded. The view of the beach and its “Martian land” along the coastline from a nearby cliff is attractive. There are cafes and sun loungers everywhere. Entering the water with shoes on makes it difficult to swim. But the photos of the beach are bright and surfers love the beach.

Small and calm Padang Padang beach. Once was a secret beach, only people knew about it local residents. Now popular. The shore is good and the waters are clear. There are few waves, which is unusual for the island of Bali. During peak season it is crowded. There are no sun loungers, only umbrellas can be rented. There is a modest cafe, tents with beach and bathing accessories. The highlight of the Blue Heaven hotel-restaurant, located at the height of the cliff, is the “pool running off the edge.” The beach is good for families.

Part beach area is the sand spit of Tanjung Benoa. Here they organize attractive walks along the seabed in spacesuits.

Perfect surfing

Which beach is best for surfing is difficult to answer. Surfing is the island's specialty. Changgu beach. Both surfing gurus and beginners catch waves here. The structure of the bottom contributes to the formation of a more powerful and higher wave than in Kuta. Housing is available. Some hotels have their own area with sun loungers. Many cozy cafes.

Echo beach is Canggu's neighbor. The border between them is a Balinese temple. There is a bar-cafe. Conditions are favorable for surfing.

Uluwatu Beach (also known as Suluban) is hidden between the rocks. Flooded by the tide. High waves attract experienced surfers. The infrastructure is developed and adapted for them. There is a cafe on the cliff, which offers magnificent ocean panoramas.

Coast of the southeast

There is cheap housing in the village of Sanur. Good snorkeling and diving. There is a pedestrian and bicycle path along the coast. Romantic gazebos adorn the breakwaters. Area attractions include a safari park and beautiful waterfall. The famous Agung is visible from the beach.

The clean Blue Lagoon beach is suitable for scuba diving. A narrow coastal strip, flooded by the tide. At an altitude of 2-3 m there is a platform with a cafe and a massage parlor.

Candidasa beach. Calm, black and rocky, not suitable for a beach holiday. Chandidas’ specialty is “absolute beach front” private villas with infinity pools and panoramas of the azure ocean. “Beach front” is a villa or hotel where foreign tourists are allowed to rest on the beach. The “absolute” option involves personal access to the sea.

Beaches of East and North Bali

Black sand beaches in Bali are located in the northern and eastern island territories.

Amed beach is rocky and “black”. The sea is calm. Corals and exotic living creatures can be found already 5 m from the coastline, so snorkeling here is excellent.

The beach is not crowded due to its distance from the centers of Balinese tourism. The simple Pondok Vienna Beach Hotel and the beach of the same name are located in the village of Bunutan. Leaving the room, walking 15-20 steps along the black and white sand, you find yourself in the sea. But the price of the room is much more expensive.

Secluded beaches

The long and wild Nyang Nyang Beach is popular among surfers. You can get to it by going down the stairs from the cliff, passing through tropical thickets, overcoming more than 500 steps. White sand and the endless blue-turquoise ocean. In some places the bottom looks like a lunar landscape - rocky with indentations.

General description of the beaches

According to Indonesian laws, beaches in Bali cannot be purchased in private property, because most of them are public. Only a few prestigious first-line hotels have protected coastal areas where outsiders are not allowed. On the island you can find both crowded and secluded beaches. There are long strips of sand stretching for several kilometers, and very tiny sections of the coast, where you can only go at low tide. Some beaches are popular among locals, while others are visited mainly by tourists.

To choose the perfect beach for your vacation, you need to know the following:

  • What is his appearance
  • What is it suitable for?

Now let's look at each of these points.

What Balinese beaches look like

You can find very different coastlines on the island. I would recommend visiting a few beaches to better understand the diversity of the island.

But when choosing a specific vacation spot, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • Sand color
  • Wave height
  • Cleanliness of the city
  • Infrastructure

So, here are the main differences between the beaches, in terms of their appearance.

Sand

The island's beaches do not always correspond to a tourist's idea of a tropical paradise. The sand here comes in different colors:

  • White
  • Yellow or golden
  • Grey
  • Black

There are two active volcano. The ash that is formed during their eruption ends up on the beaches. The eastern coast is closest to the volcanoes, so the sand here is black. In the north it has a grayer tint. In general, in Bali, white sand beaches can only be found on the Bukit Peninsula and small islands located nearby (Nusa Penida, Lembongan, Gili). On the southern coast - in Kuta and Seminyak - the sand is yellow-gray. In Sanur and Nusa Dua it is white and golden, but it is not natural, but imported.

The structure of sand also varies. Black volcanic - mostly fine, sticks to wet bodies and hands. Although there are beaches with fairly coarse black sand, reminiscent of very small pebbles. White sand on Bukit can be both large and small. Gray consists of different factions. Except sandy beaches, on east coast The islands are rocky. They are covered with black cobblestones of different sizes.

Waves

It’s not for nothing that the island is called a mecca for surfers. Due to the special structure of the bottom and coral reefs near the shore, quite high waves are formed on local coasts.

They are divided into three types:

  1. Close-outs - closed waves, suitable for riding in foam, quite dangerous when their height reaches two meters or more
  2. Flat waves (Spilling waves) – typical for the coast with a slight bottom slope, do not form pipes, suitable for beginner surfers
  3. Plunging waves - fast waves that break to form a pipe, suitable for advanced and professional surfers

The height and type of wave depend on the tides and wind direction. In the southwestern part of the island, the waves are higher in the dry season, as southeast winds blow here at this time. On the opposite coast, the ocean is more agitated during the rainy season due to southwest winds. High waves are more characteristic of the southern tip of the island. The best beaches in this sense are the beaches of the Bukit Peninsula, Kuta and Seminyak.

However, you can also find quiet places with small waves. Most of them are located in the north of the island, near the resort of Lovina. Eat good places on the east and southeast coast - first of all, this is the resort of Sanur. There are low waves on some beaches of the Bukit Peninsula - Padang Padang, Jimbar an, Nusa Dua.

Purity

It’s interesting that you can find completely opposite reviews about the same beach. Some visitors write that it is almost perfectly clean, others talk about terrible dirt. In fact, it all depends on the location, infrastructure and season.

Conventionally, I would divide the beaches according to cleanliness into several categories:

  • Guarded beaches near hotels are the cleanest. Garbage is removed from the coast several times a day.
  • Public beaches with well-developed infrastructure are quite clean. Garbage is removed in the morning and evening.
  • Public beaches with poor infrastructure - cleanliness depends on the time of day and season. There is less garbage in the morning than in the evening; it can be very dirty during the rainy season.
  • Wild, secluded beaches can be both clean and dirty - it all depends on the location and season. But on such coasts, garbage left by tourists is less common. Most often it's just algae.

It is important to note that during the peak rainy season (from late January to early March) almost all beaches are dirty. The sea brings a lot of garbage, and even prestigious resorts do not have time to clean the coast. Of course, tourists who visited one of the beaches at this time will not leave the best reviews about it.

There is one more nuance - according to local religion, the ocean is considered sacred place. People come here to make offerings to the gods. Fishermen do not go to sea without this ritual. On many beaches you can see small altars where locals bring their ritual gifts in the form of wreaths of flowers, herbs, twigs and fruits. Especially many offerings are made in Balinese New Year when religious ceremonies are traditionally held by the sea. Over time, the wreaths dry out, are blown away by the wind, float out to sea, but then return back.

But the remains of ritual offerings cannot be compared with what vacationers leave on the shore. Bottles, bags, plastic dishes - all this again ends up on the coast during high tide. Some beaches have concrete piers. Garbage adjacent to these piers lingers for a long time, interfering with swimming.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the beaches on the island is very different. In guarded areas near hotels, the all-inclusive principle applies; here you can find any services. There are many public beaches with fully or partially developed infrastructure. There are also completely wild places, where there is nothing but sea and sand.

Based on infrastructure development, beaches are conventionally divided into the following types:

  • Well developed infrastructure
On these beaches you can rent sunbeds, umbrellas, surfboards, equipment for diving, snorkeling and other types of recreation. They offer a lot of interesting entertainment - beach volleyball, banana boat rides, jet skis and much more. The infrastructure also includes lifeguard stations, showers, and toilets. There are cafes and restaurants near the coast or on the beach itself. All places of this type are paid, prices fluctuate widely. A separate category includes guarded beaches near hotels, where outsiders are not allowed.
Beaches with the best infrastructure are located in the resorts of Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and Sanur. In the east and north of the island, similar places can only be found near hotels.

  • Moderately developed infrastructure
These beaches provide many of the services listed above. But there may be no lifeguard station, sun lounger rentals or recreational equipment, and sometimes no shower or toilet. Cafes can be represented by a small bar counter, a bench with local dishes or fast food.
Beaches with moderately developed infrastructure can be found anywhere on the island. Most of them are in the east and north (in Lovina), there are such places on the Bukit Peninsula, the islands of Lembongan and Nusa Penida

  • Wild beaches where there is no infrastructure at all
There are a lot of wild or secret beaches in Bali. They are located on the east coast as well as on the Bukit Peninsula. There are several secluded spots on the islands of Gili, Lembongan and Nusa Penida. Tourists don’t know about some of them at all.

What types of recreation are the local beaches suitable for?

In fact, you can do anything here. The beaches of Bali are suitable for swimming, surfing, diving and snorkeling, various sports, and just for walking along the coastline.

Here are the main types of recreation:

  • Surfing and its varieties (windsurfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing)
Best places for surfing – south coast islands, including the Bukit Peninsula. At the same time, I recommend going to the southwestern beaches during the dry season, and to the southeastern beaches during the rainy season. This has to do with the direction of the wind.
Kitesurfing (riding a board behind a boat) and windsurfing (swimming on a board with a sail) are more developed in the north, in Sanur, Tanjung Benoa and Nusa Dua. The waves here are small, so they are suitable for this type of beach entertainment.
  • Diving and snorkeling
The best beaches for snorkeling are in the north (Court Lovina) and east of the island (Amed, Candidasa, Tulamben). There are excellent places on the nearby islands.
  • Swimming
Not all beaches are suitable for swimming due to high waves or rocky bottoms. You can swim in some places on the Bukit Peninsula, on the Gili Islands. The most popular resorts Sanur, Nusa Dua and Lovina are considered in this regard.
  • Sports beach activities (volleyball, jet ski, flyboarding, etc.)
The main centers of sports entertainment are the beaches of Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua and Sanur. They have small waves and well-developed infrastructure. There are also many beach activities in Kuta and Seminyak.
  • respects. Determine for yourself 1-2 main criteria by which you will look for a beach. When you find several options, you can pay attention to other characteristics that are less important to you. If you follow this principle, there is a chance to find the optimal beach for yourself.
