Legends that have come down to us from the depths of centuries tell that in ancient times the lake was surrounded by an impenetrable forest thicket, and it was ruled by a terrible monster, which regularly stirred up the water in a huge reservoir. The animals were afraid to approach the shores of the lake to drink - its owner was afraid of being angry. Even the birds flying over the lake were pulled into its womb by the monster.
Another Bashkir name of the lake, known since the 16th century, is Yakty-kul, from the Bashkir “yakty” - “bright”. Thus, translated from Bashkir it is “Bright Lake”. Back in Soviet times, Lake Bannoe became famous for the all-Union resort “Yakty-Kul”; a sanatorium, a holiday home, numerous smaller departmental holiday homes, and pioneer camps were also built on its picturesque shores. But the banks of Banny began to be built up with health resort buildings only in the late 1950s. Previously, this place was... an industrial area.
